Editor's Note: There was a long gap between sessions here; just like there was a bit between me logging these, heh.
Metal Man (GM): Recap: The Questers went to Alsa. They then found a crashed Borne Dauntless ship. They flew the BD ship to the Mushroom Republic. There, they discovered the 7 stars had protected the continent from the destruction of Illian and Garrick. They were then granted a place to rest at, for there were more unfinished pieces of business to do in order to ensure a warp between the places was possible... One moment while I find the lines detailing which parts of the Mobian Continent that were required... Ah, right. They had Garrok, the clone of Garrick, who was the best means of creating a second Gate to warp them back and forth. However, he's slowly dying and in stasis, so a means to cure him is needed... Merlon noted that the group should go to the ruins of "Where he came from" which indicated a spot on the Mobian Continent. They spin around a bit as some blurry image shows up.
Merlon: "Hmmm... the cure to this man lies in an ancient room, in a ruined factory... deep beneath the ground, where you originally discovered him... a cure... to far more than just him... an ancient king sought this cure... The ancient king... the ruler of people of swords, the once powerful Vring... they had this thing... The powerful cure, is very obscure... and many have died chasing its lure... ...But search now and you shall find... a room empty and destroyed... the one who was real became the fake... and changed this other one's fate... you can enter the room near the lake... and finally do the right thing for his sake."
Metal Man (GM): He then leans there and sighs a bit, exhausted as the prophecy is finished being told.
Merlon: "It was... rather hard to find, but... it is down there... in the cursed land where the world turned to sand. By the city where this person and others like him were... made? It's... an odd thought for an old man like me. Who would just create new beings like that?"
Metal Man (GM): The Borne-Dauntless ship, once repaired, was able to fly there. The Questers remembered where it was, and even if they didn't, the ship had it programmed in the navcomp. Well, I should say Valron especially remembered it. Since he was the one who saved it several times over. In fact that's right, he chose to go there specifically. The ship was turned off, the keys were dropped on the ground. Garrok had the master keycard. It'd been deactivated. Garrok was trying to hide inside the ship and had gotten mortally wounded. By his genetic degradation. Since he's a... clone of a clone of a clone. The others aboard the ship had died, and GUN wanted him dead. The ship itself was damaged but functional enough to get to Mushroom Republic. It probably wouldn't be good to fly around forever, though... it was smoking and rattling as it flew. Speaking of cheating! In addition to your book, there's the 7 Eternal Stars too. And the Stars are so powerful even the Book couldn't break them back in the past with Illian messing with them. The Crystal Stars are the things protecting the Mushroom Kingdom. Er, Republic. They are currently projecting a giant continent-wide force field. He didn't make them, which is partially why he couldn't lift them. Somebody in the ancient past made them, he didn't know they were on this planet until it was too late, sent Valron to deal with them... Valron then used them against him. That would be where the last of Illian's edge with regards to them went away.
Gelato: :D *BOUNCY BOUNCY BED. BOUNCY BOUNCY BOUNCY BED.*
Metal Man (GM): Actually that's a good way to start the session. Continuation. Gelato is bouncing on the bed in his room. Xavier would wake up with a pillow impaled on his pointy right shoulderpad. Gelato would keep bouncing on the bed, until a warp would appear in his room. Weird.
Gelato: *BOUNCY BOUNCY--warp?*
Metal Man (GM): Walther would fall out of the portal, at random.
Nonna: *Awoke in a zombie-like state and was now just kind of sitting upright in bed staring into space. Definitely not a morning person.*
Valron: *Is... actually still conked out right now. Seems to be something of a heavy sleeper. Welp.*
KitRedgrave didn't sleep at all, but was and is instead obsessively tinkering with the strewn-about remnants of the coffee machine quite sparkishly trying to get it to make the PERFECT cup of coffee. And is just kinda quiet maniacally laughing to herself.
Metal Man (GM): Xavier would randomly wander over, seeing the coffee machine.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...You know, I should make a coffee napalm machine some day."
KitRedgrave: "...napalm. Maybe. Put some spice into your morning. Ehehehe..."
Gelato: D: *He quickly stops his bouncing, grabbing Walther and hauling him up to the bed!*
Nonna: *Stretched, got up, had a shower, and wandered out to the main room of the building in her pajamas. Sat down in a chair looking half-dead.* "Good... morning."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "You know what they say. Everybody loves the smell of napalm in the morning. Smells like... ...something."
Walther Pierce: "Oohg... Missed the bus."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Anyway, you seemed a bit out of it when we were busy doing things, Kit, so I summarized everything in this printout." *Makes a laser printing noise and prints out reams of paper out of one of his bulky sleeves onto the ground for Kit to look at* "Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out how this laser printer in my arm will shoot lasers at my enemies."
Xavier Ridgecrest stares crosseyed at his visor. "There's a... van... in Gelato's doom... huh..." He wanders off to Gelato's room.
KitRedgrave would slap a couple leftover bits into place, taping them together. "Attempt #526, grind a little finer, water temperature heated 1 degree less... let's do it..." And then starts the horrible Xavier-esque coffee machine mess going before realizing what Xavier himself said.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Mr. T! Are you in Gelato's room?"
Nonna: "Grandpa, I'll need a few minutes to get into gear."
Walther Pierce tries to snap back into it, but the fall apparently has him a little more dazed than he wants to admit. "Saw the... ships... had to... quit my nightjob..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I told you not to steal people's gold chains!"
Valron: *He's still out like a light. Yep.*
KitRedgrave: "...I missed things?!?!"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Steal the gold chains of undead minions instead!" *Turns around to face Kit, not missing a beat* "...Yeah... I think you were in some weird fugue state when we were doing things. There's a ship full of things for you to take apart and reprogram out there. And also a bunch of doomsday crystals we could probably hook up to the book and cause it to snow in July."
Walther Pierce: "Chains...? No, I'm not into that..."
Nonna: "Do we have guests?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...No, it's just Walther. Who somehow warped into Gelato's room."
KitRedgrave just gives Xavier a look. A look of sheer mania and wonder and glee and screaming "THAT WAS A MISTAKE TO TELL ME THAT". She doesn't actually scream, but most people would regret the fact you just said that. :D.
Nonna: "I didn't know you had a friend named Walther, Grandpa..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I bet the warp malfunctioned again, based on all these error messages." *Looks at Kit.* "Ah... you look like I used to act fifty years ago... Yeah, Walther is a Lucha Libre Wrestler and my bodyguard."
Walther Pierce tries to get it together again. "Ugh, Xavier? Where have you been while I have been where I've been...?"
Nonna: "Oh, OK." *She would lean back and doze off again.*
Walther Pierce: "...Been, been, been been ben... no."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I've been talking to kitsune about the properties of the universe and debating the past with clones of clones of clones."
KitRedgrave: "... ..." *She would start coming back to sanity, but then the coffee machine would ding with a thankfully full pot. And then she has a cup.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "What were you doing this time, Walther? Or did you do anything? These error messages from the portal you used don't look so good. It tells me 'Snickers Fizzbuzz Supercomputer Global Variable Arrangement 50.'"
KitRedgrave sip. And then the crazy comes back, full force and then some. "...It's. Perfect."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "In any case, I bet Gelato would like privacy, so come out here and have some probably cursed super coffee that my friend here created."
KitRedgrave breaks down in tears from the sheer perfection of this coffee that is now fully optimized, and beckons everyone to have some too.
Walther Pierce: takes a moment to actually stand up this time, hand to his head. Maybe he didn't have the finest fall from [s]grace[/s] the portal. "I was minding my own business on the ship when all of you were kapoof, gone. I missed some stuff pretty hard there..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: *Drinks an entire mug full* "Huh... it's so good that... ...it doesn't have anything wrong with it." *Contemplates* "I'm more used to... the presence of asbestos, in my coffee, personally."
Walther Pierce: "...Private room. Alright, whatever." *He takes a slow walk out, still trying to regain complexion.*
Nonna: *Sleep-talking* "Don't worry, my birthday is every year. Just come to the next one..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Merry Christmas, Nonna!"
KitRedgrave pushes a mug into Nonna's hands and Gelato's ... however he drinks.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Oh right, they're half asleep." *Claps his hands loudly. CLANG.*
Gelato: "..." *He just wiggles into the cup, bathing in the coffee and absorbing it by osmosis.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Now I have some strange idea about having Gelato become a coffee machine." *Stares at empty mug* "...I'm not even going to ask what this stuff is doing to my thought process."
Nonna: "I--wha-- who?" *She jerks awake and looks ready for combat... in her PJs.*
KitRedgrave: "Havesomecoffeeitsamazingiswear."
Valron: *And while this is going on, Valron just... kinda rolls in his bed a little.* "That's... that's not how you bang a gong at all. Give me the stick." *Oh great, now he's sleep-talking.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "When you guys are... awake... then we can go... ...do things... in this place... I printed it out." *He takes out some badly printed Domino's Pizza napkins with an image of the Mobian continent on it and a big X.*
Gelato: *Now he's a pleasant coffee color and scent!*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I printed it before we got here and I discovered the prodigious quantities of paper here, mind you. I'd print it again, but that might use up my toner supply."
Nonna: "This isn't Grandpa's house... oh. That's right, I'm with you guys now."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Some people do call me grandpa, though. Grandpa Deathmachine."
KitRedgrave: "...Good. Okay. Yeah..." *She tries to hide the disappointment and hurt.* "Anyway. Yeah. The plot."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "..." *Goes silent for a second* "... ...My god... I forgot the Brawlers ever existed... I wonder if I accidentally left them at that Denny's... forever..."
Nonna stumbles off into her room to get changed into her cadet uniform. She emerges after several minutes before collapsing in the same chair as before.
Gelato: *He hops over to Kit's shoulder, bouncing back and forth and rubbing coffee scent into her clothes.*
Valron: "Ugh. No they don't. Nobody calls you that. And nobody really cares about them, either." *...Oh. It seems he's actually up now.* "Morning, by the way."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "But... but... uhhh... Grandma... Weathervane!"
Nonna: "Morning." *She weakly raises a hand to welcome Valron to the land of the barely-awake.*
KitRedgrave would flip through the giant sheaf of papers then, with a Gelato being a Gelato on her.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And... .Digi-lite! And... K-named guy! Other person named K! and... other other person named K! And the other 3 people with Ks in their names!"
Valron: "...And let me guess, princess combat boots?" *He then shifts his attention over to Nonna, nodding to her.*
Nonna: "Krazy."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes... ...I forgot they existed... ...and you know what, they never even called me... They must be in a better place now. Like... a better restaurant."
Valron: "Oh, and speaking of forgettable... Valentine." *He lets that sink in for a moment.* "Now let us never recall that name again."
Nonna: "Done."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Although supposedly one of them went to live with Jack... who died... ...what the heck happened to her, I wonder..."
KitRedgrave: "Valenwho? Heh."
Valron: "That was more directed at Xavier, but thank you for playing along, you two."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Now that I've remembered to forget to remember those people, I remember that we're going to cure Garrok... to build a portal back home. So that we can warp right back, whenever we feel like it. And drink this coffee... all the time. ...We should really give Kit some Saturn Coffee sometime."
KitRedgrave: "...You really mean it?" :D :D
Valron: "No. We're not doing that last part."
KitRedgrave: "Saturn... coffee...?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm sure I can find some in a radioactive waste dump somewhere."
Valron: "Don't ask."
KitRedgrave: "Oh now I /must/ ask."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I mean, they declared it a Class IX superdrug that destroyed the Saturn's civilization, but..."
Valron: "Well, don't."
Nonna: "What did I get myself into..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It makes you go 'BoInG!'"
KitRedgrave: "...They probably brewed it wrong."
Walther Pierce: "Ok first, who's Garrock. Second, who missed telling me the warp was one-way?" *...* "...Don't answer that."
Valron: "No, they brewed it right. It's just terrible, mind-destroying rubbish."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Garrock is a rock that I named Garrick." *Holds up a random rock* "Garrok, on the other hand, is a clone of a clone of a clone. He is dying... and we don't want him to die, because... he can make a portal for us back home."
Valron: *He then goes to take a coffee cup, fill it with coffee, and sip it.* "...Aaaand there we go. That's better."
KitRedgrave: "...Anyway. On to the day. That."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "But the cure is in... a place Kit would want to go to... an abandoned lab!"
Nonna: "Garrok is a clone of a clone of someone who was... degrading genetically or something. I froze him with everyone's help to keep him in stasis until we find a way to treat him."
Valron: "Pretty much."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Technically it's an archaeological site underneath an abandoned lab."
KitRedgrave: "Wait a second... you have it on the map somewhere?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So basically... yes." *He picks up the dirty napkin and shows it to Kit, complete with X mark.* "Yes. We are taking this coffee machine with us. It might come in handy. And the Toads said we own this villa, anyway. Just don't set up too many winebottles, or secret agents might shoot them to pieces."
KitRedgrave would stare at the dirty napkin. "Past the coffee stain, over the grease..."
Valron: "...Noted."
Walther Pierce: "And you wouldn't?"
KitRedgrave: "Okay, yeah, that's definitely an interesting place to go!"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...You're starting to catch on... yes..."
Valron: "He's too clunky to be a secret agent, anyways."
KitRedgrave: "Think I lived near there. Maybe. If this sharpie squiggle isn't just a mistake."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Exactly. That's why it would never be me that shoots them... yes..." *>_>*
Valron: "Nah, you'd just smash them to pieces."
Walther Pierce: "..." *Cross of the arms.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes, that would be why, Kit. This is a site of the other people who lived near your people. The... .Vring, you might not know them, they were around a bit after your people, but in a similar archaeological stratum. You know, it would have been useful had Marley not vanished when Illian's ships all flew away. I heard he was a little bit of an archaeologist himself."
KitRedgrave: "Vring... nope, no bells vrung here."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "In any case, that's where we're going. With our marvelous ship!"
Nonna rests her head on a table.
Valron: "...Yeah, I have no idea what happened to Marley, anyways."
Xavier Ridgecrest points to the Dauntless, whose right wing is still smoking.
Valron: "...Kinda feel bad for the guy considering he managed to end up on the wrong side of things yet again."
KitRedgrave: "...wait, don't I remember that our ride here was low on gas and falling apart? ...what have I been DOING this whole time?"
Walther Pierce: *Looks outside at the ship* "...I forget, what is it with you and clunkers again?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "You were telling us about marvelous coffee. And then you made tasty coffee. Maybe we can fuel the ship with coffee."
Valron: "This one isn't as ludicrously hopeless."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's got a few burnt fuses and a bent fuselage. Otherwise it's pretty neat... and annoyingly modern!"
Valron: "Besides, it still managed to outfly a bunch of other ships."
KitRedgrave: "Oh yeah. It's probably starship-grade, but a ship won't really APPRECIATE the intricate dance of flavors, the degree-perfect holding temperature..."
Nonna: "The main obstacle will be GUN if it shows up to pester us again."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That's right. If we fly over there, GUN will harass us."
Valron: "Right, right."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And... and we don't have a ship with a giant lightning cannon on it. Dammit, where did the cool ship go??? I remember the Alsan Questers just, like, created a ship with a giant KILL cannon on it, and it killed everything..."
Valron: "I had it taken to Ivan for conversion into a transformable ship/MTA hybrid. Am I the only one that remembers that?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes. Thankfully, that means we... probably can't get it warped here, because it was a warp error that Walther even managed to find us. Hmmm..."
KitRedgrave: "Do we even have enough miles left out of it to get to this place?"
Walther Pierce: "...error?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yeah. The Snickers bar potato error." *Prints out a bunch of cryptic coding errors and hands them to Walther.*
Walther Pierce: "Wait, you -didn't- broadcast that signal?"
Valron: "We can at least pick it up once we manage to... you know. Get things sorted out well enough to make getting it possible."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The Time-space matrix malfunctioned and you wound up here by accident. Should have appeared on Angel Island, but didn't. It's a nice... helpful glitch, but not one I'd feel safe relying on a second time."
Walther Pierce: "...I'll just ask later."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Hm... there were warp pipes, right, Valron? Pipes that went places..."
Valron: "Yeah, warp pipes are a thing."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We could probably use those, I think?"
Valron: "Should be a possible route, yes."
Xavier Ridgecrest: *Stares at his dex at some logs* "It says the Questers cleaned them out or something. In fact, we never even need to go to the surface. Because what we want is underground."
Valron: "I... don't remember that bit. Huh. Well, that's convenient."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well. It was a long time ago. So I doubt they're clean right now."
Valron: "Just need to find the right underground route."
Nonna: "Alsa is sure a frightening place."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We'll probably have to shoot things, and burn them. Oh yeah, I nearly died here like twenty times."
KitRedgrave: "Normally I would disagree but... this isn't quite the place I know."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Then Garrick hit me with a cannon shell the size of a VW bug and killed me for months. It wasn't very fun." :<
Valron: "I'm still rather annoyed by how it... always manages to make like twenty different problems crop up on it. That's a very annoying tendency and I want it to stop."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That's why we're curing Garrick! Garrock! Akusai! Kraela! Atomsk! ...Garrok."
KitRedgrave: "...Speaking of which. Why didn't I think of this earlier? We can just cheat our way forward and get this done TODAY." *He pulls out the book.*
Valron: "What've you got in mind?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Can you make it reroute the warp pipe directly to where we need to go?"
KitRedgrave: "Well, we need a direct path free of giant cannon shells and other things, right?"
Valron: "Yeah."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes. We just need to get there. We probably can't, like, erase whatever is there without getting rid of the cure we want, but the rest is probably expendable."
KitRedgrave: "Yeah, I was just gonna cheat us a direct path there and back. Don't need a million fetchquests. ...Just don't tell Tails, he'll probably think I'm going off the deep end."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's okay. I'm totally more sane than you... ...not..."
Nonna: *Eyes the book strangely* "It has that kind of power?"
Valron: "You mean aren't part of the way off it already?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, The Book can rewrite this reality... the Alsan one. It used to rewrite Nintendus, but Nintendus was so insane the Book itself went insane."
KitRedgrave: "There's a fine line between INSPIRATION and insanity. ... I haven't figured out what that is yet. Last time I was like this I wound up doing a completely unaimed time jump."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Then it and I punched eachother until we both passed out."
Valron: "I remember shooting it at that point."
Nonna: "Huh... reminds me of another book I heard about once."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's very fancy. In this case, it should allow us to skip shooting and burning random Goombas in favor of shooting and burning evil ancient skeletons. A 50% reduction in random violence!"
Metal Man (GM): The Book has the schematics of the world inside it, although it's so detailed it's overwhelming to try and comprehend all of it.
KitRedgrave would pull out a pen and over-dramatically make some sweeping writing gestures, while saying something in ancient Alsan that's probably meant to be as dramatic as going 'QED!'. Or would, but just suddenly STOPS as soon as she LOOKS AT THE PAGE.
Metal Man (GM): You can see the rough area that corresponds to the napkin.
KitRedgrave: "...hold on, this is gonna take some doing." *She reaches for another mug of coffee and really sets to it.*
Metal Man (GM): It is somewhat hilarious that the Book's rendering isn't that much different, as if a right-handed Metal Man drew it instead of the left-handed one that is Xavier. You can see what obviously looks like Illian's handwriting in the margin. It's incomprehensible. That man cannot write to save his life.
KitRedgrave: "...If you can read this, Gelato, please tell me what he wrote. Just... try not to get coffee on it. I have no idea how the fabric of reality deals with coffee stains."
Gelato: *He sliiiides down Kit's arm to look at the book.*
Metal Man (GM): The handwriting in the book is pretty incomprehensible. Got some plan on how to read it, Gelato? It doesn't help that it's melted a bit, most likely from the book's damage from the battle with Illian.
Gelato: *Spell attempt! Alter!*
Metal Man (GM): The text rearranges into nice bold all caps text. LAB WHERE BORNE IS ATTEMPTING TO MAKE NEW BODY FOR HIMSELF
KitRedgrave: "Darn you're good."
Metal Man (GM): I REALLY DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF BORNE LIVING ANY LONGER, SENDING DEFENDERS TO KILL HIM AND HIS CLONES, GARRICK SHOULD WANT HIM DEAD BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE USING HIS DNA
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Looks like that's where it should be."
KitRedgrave: "Excellent, let's see if we can't trace a path..." *He would stare at the page for a while, looking up and down for a clear shot or some unused pipe networks to co-opt...*
Valron: "Oh yeah... I remember that. Gibby and I kinda ruined that for Borne, all things considered. I mean, he still had the clones, but we did mess up his new body. Think that was our first proper mission as part of that outfit..."
Metal Man (GM): Sure.
KitRedgrave: * leet wallhax?*
Metal Man (GM): You see a nearby pipe network... the joke is that this area already had pipes going to it, you just need to flip pre-existing junctions to make it go directly there. Seems like the pipes were meant to be used in this fashion, and this was a way to control it.
KitRedgrave would make a few small pen marks then. "...well that was surprisingly painless."
Valron: "Good to see that went off without a hitch."
KitRedgrave: "I guess Illian or someone already set things up to work like that. So that's a couple hours saved for the team."
Nonna: "Thanks."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Okay. If nobody needs anything else, we should probably get going, I guess."
Gelato: I'm ready! '3'
KitRedgrave closes the book and stows it, packing up to go. Along with taking the coffee, of course!
Valron: "One moment. Still kinda in my regular clothes." *And with that, he pops off back to his room, and goes to put on his armor and get all his weapons sorted out and accounted for. This takes about a minute or two, but once he's done, he's back and ready to go.*
Gelato: *He looks at Kit, from her shoulder.*
Walther Pierce just shrugs, no words given.
Nonna: "Be prepared for anything."
Xavier Ridgecrest loads Gigli and Batman and Robin DVDs into his DVD launcher.
KitRedgrave: "Yes, I did. Was up for... oh gosh, I don't even know how long working on it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's okay. Magic spells can probably ensure you never get tired without any repercussion cussion cussion instruments bzzzt."
KitRedgrave: "...Yes. Yes I should, thank you for suggesting it. Ahahaha..."
Valron: "You should probably still get some proper rest every once in a while, anyways."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes... then there will be two of us."
Valron: "Can't imagine staying awake all the time is... exactly the best idea."
KitRedgrave: "In this case, totally worth it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Good thing Garrick is probably dead in a ditch somewhere, otherwise we would have to trap him on a satellite circling the sun..." *Goes to walk outside.*
Valron: *He stretches out for a moment, before going to follow behind Xavier.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: *Nearly walks to the ship when he remembers it's actually time to go to the warp pipe. Walks to the warp pipe instead* "This is the only one here... I'm guessing this is the one."
KitRedgrave follows out, preparations done "Yep. Unless I went and messed something up..."
Nonna: *Behind the others, clearly but silently nervous about what awaits them.*
KitRedgrave: "...It's probably fine."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "If it isn't, this is coming out of your incredibly delayed due to me being lazy paycheck... ...just kidding. I guess you could test it, Gelato."
KitRedgrave: "Wait we get paid for this? I thought we were just looting whatever we found off people's corpses or unconscious bodies."
Gelato: *He promptly flops off of Kit's shoulder into the pipe! Cannonball!*
Walther Pierce walks out of the house looking towards the ground as he rearranges his clothing for a moment, then looks up and flat stops upon seeing the warp pipe. He must not get around much, as he simply stops, points, and states "...That's a pipe. You're sure you weren't just talking about a train station about the underground routes and whatever?"
KitRedgrave: "...Pretty sure."
Walther Pierce: "Right."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's not the kind you smoke with, if you're wondering."
Nonna: "You get used to it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's too big."
Metal Man (GM): Gelato goes down the pipe. WHOOMPWHOOMPWHOOMP... ...aaand wherever he does wind up, you can't specifically see...
Walther Pierce: *Sharp inhale* "Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnno."
Valron: "He's afraid of getting coated in sewage. Don't worry, they're perfectly clean. I've been through a few of these."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "In the old days, we'd all fly out of them at once and dogpile on eachother. I'd get to be the one who went last so I'd crush everyone with my weight... ...we were stupid."
Walther Pierce: "Sewage wasn't the first thing on my mind, but uh..." *He walks over and leans over the top to peer down it.* "I don't exactly see... ...anything?"
Valron: "In any case..." *He promptly hops up onto the pipe, then sinks into it. Cue the whoompwhoompwhoomp and whatnot.*
Metal Man (GM): *WHOOMPWHOOMPWHOOMP* Valron is rudely interrupted by Gelato leaping out of the pipe.
Valron: "...Oh! Well then."
Walther Pierce is backing away from the pipe real fast after that exchange. "I REST my case."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It doesn't usually happen like that, don't worry. What'd you see, Gelato?"
Gelato: "It's all golden and shiny and flashy in there." @.!
KitRedgrave: "...coins?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "He saw shiny golden things... ...sounds fun to me."
KitRedgrave: "Hey wait a second." *She flips over to the pipe map in the book, looking to see if maybe she made a mistake somewhere.*
Metal Man (GM): The book doesn't appear to specify what the places on the other end look like, not at least from the map view.
KitRedgrave closes it. "Well, we may as well go through anyway and see what it is."
Nonna hops in.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "If nothing else, we can melt down the walls to become rich!" *Leaps in.*
KitRedgrave steps through, damn the consequences. Hopefully we didn't just walk into the Temple of Doom module.
Valron: *And NOW he goes down the pipe, now that everything seems to be sorted out.*
Gelato: *And he falls in again!*
Metal Man (GM): The other end has what looks like some sort of Nordic temple, with weird ever-burning torches, golden walls, blinking lights on it, and runes you don't know how to read etched over the door.
KitRedgrave: "...Goddamnit we DID walk into the temple of doom."
Metal Man (GM): Also the ground is of dirt, and it looks like someone was crawling into here from the wide marks on the ground. The door is open, both of the doors in are kinda crooked like somebody slammed them open.
Walther Pierce: "..." *As the last one in, Walther just takes his damn time getting onto the lid of the pipe, dropping himself in just enough to hang by his fingers before falling in entirely. After a moment, he lets go, and... squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeak.*
Metal Man (GM): Walther would find himself right side up and standing outside the pipe as soon as he went in... ...huh. Inside the busted open doors is a long hall. The hall has two tables in it, both empty. And some steps up... and another passageway up there, guarded by two suits of armor.
Valron: "...Well, now. This is going to be interesting." *He hums to himself, idly scanning the runes with his visor, checking to see if he can get some sort of translation. Wouldn't hurt to try.*
KitRedgrave would also have a look. Maybe these runes are close enough to something she would've seen? Or maybe there are leylines around?
Metal Man (GM): It's easier to translate than you'd think, as the translator detects these runes were actually one of the languages that occurred before English and led to English later on. They're actually a bit different from what Kit is used to seeing. Different language altogether--these people were clearly not kin of Kit's. The language says rather simply, "Temple of Vring."
Valron: "Hm... I'm going to make a wild guess and guess that- Yeah, I thought so. It's a Vring temple. Makes sense, considering that their king was looking for a cure as well."
Metal Man (GM): The two suits of armor are clearly 'alive' or at least appear to be... something.
KitRedgrave: "I guess we're here then."
Metal Man (GM): They appear to make occasional movements, anyway.
Nonna: "We're in the right place."
Metal Man (GM): They don't see you, though you're about 2 blocks of walking straight ahead away from them.
Valron: "Don't even know how to make their living armor play 'dead', it seems."
Metal Man (GM): The inside of the hall has a bunch of lighting that seems vaguely magical/technological. It glows but gives no heat. The same goes for the torches by the entrance.
Nonna: "Maybe they get cramps in their muscles like we do?"
Metal Man (GM): It's fire that... doesn't give heat.
Walther Pierce pulls out his own Smash Dex and flips it into any 'text only' mode he can find with it, and idly scans the area to see what "Vring" lore it can pull up.* (Probably none.)
Smash Dex: "...DONG. Vring Temple. Definitely not anything that happened on Nintendus. I don't think, unless Professor Oak was a secret viking. Unknown."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It'll know what this is... ...after we figure out what it is... ...which means it's probably useless."
KitRedgrave: "Oh, I saw something like that torch back home. Pretty snazzy visual effect, but not really useful apart from lighting. ...Which really makes me question just how we stopped existing all of a sudden, or would if I didn't already know the answer..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm not sure. They don't seem like evil skeletons. But I don't know if they want us in there."
Valron: "Play with them. I'm sure they'll like it if you scurry around inside their armor and mess with it."
Nonna: "They're probably conditionally hostile. And we'll probably have to trigger that condition to progress."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "In that case, we should probably either blow them up... or incapacitate them."
Valron: "One of the two."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's so odd without crazy people who just... run at all the enemies, you know? In the old days, Questers would mindlessly attack everything without a plan. Even good guys. It was... sad..."
KitRedgrave: "Or just deactivate them. There's probably a detection spell on them..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Why didn't I think of that? ...Oh right, I'm not a mage."
KitRedgrave: "I'm surprised that anything's still even running this far in the future."
Metal Man (GM): For what it's worth, whatever magic is going on here probably isn't in the best shape after many millennia.
Valron: "Yeah, it's probably going to be a lot more easy to dispel, in any case. Considering the lack of maintenance and whatnot."
Nonna: "We'll be ready to disable them in another way if that fails."
KitRedgrave would go on ahead and magically appraise the armor suits then, for something to switch off or 'unhook'.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "All right... we got two of them, so we need two disable spells... I can be backup to just punch them... any other things we should have?"
KitRedgrave: "Oh right, there's a general spell for that. Silly me."
Metal Man (GM): Kit: That's basically needing the Panel spell. This whole place looks like it was practically made out of that spell, in fact. It may have been where the spell originated from. Since your civilization didn't have a lot of fancy techno-gobbles wandering around... And these guys were old enough to be around the time magic was formalized.
KitRedgrave would go on ahead and cast Panel then, having recently gotten the Sorceror skill quirk!
Metal Man (GM): Well... you panel, but one casting works for one suit of armor at a time. The other one notices its ally turning off and puts up some weird shield and starts walking towards everyone.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Don't worry, I wanted to actually fight something anyway." *Clicks the DVD Launcher into place.*
Gelato: "Uh oh." D:
Metal Man (GM): It is... 3 rounds away from walking into range to actually fight anyone melee-wise. Roll inits. (z(AGI))
Valron: "Eh. May as well." *He calmly readies his rifle.*
Nonna: *The weapon appears in her hand again, this time being dark instead of icey.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That coffee really put a string in my step!"
Valron: "Oh, you mean you can actually get a move on?"
Walther Pierce: "...eh damn."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "To an increased extent, anyway."
Metal Man (GM): Order: Valron, Xavier, Nonna, Armor, Kit, Gelato, Walther The armor is 3 rounds away from being in melee range. If you walk towards it you can get 1 round closer... by spending an entire round running. This room is obnoxiously huge.
Nonna: "Xavier... I have an idea. Think you can match your timing with mine?" (Team Attack/Teamup prompt!)
Valron: "Right, right... Thing should be dead and buried before it even gets a chance to reach us." *He muses to himself, before opening fire on the armor, going to blast it in the arm with a high-powered shot, attempting to knock the shield off of it.*
Metal Man (GM): Ah dear... the shield around it is a FORCE field, not a shield shield... I misspoke. Hmmm... what's the best way to handle this... Guess you can redo the attack to target the force field and try to jam it, per se. Bit harder to do that though, if you want to change it to something else you can do that though. Still feeling that cold, beh. Shield -> field rhyme and my head typed the wrong one. Okay. You hit the shield dead on. ...It's an energy barrier. How much damage does that do usually? Ok. The shield flickers, hit once, but still going. Not one you can disarm. But you did land a solid hit on it. It also made no attempt to dodge, for whatever reason... or even block.
Valron: "Seems like that field can take a good hit. Should figure out how a better way to disrupt it..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Not gonna dodge anything? All right then..." *Takes out his microphone* "You might want to hold your ears for this one." *Tunes the microphone, causing some annoying metallic noises Clears throat* "In the land... there was a man... in the place... in the sand... there was a band... with a plan... full of Dans... that ate the bland..."
Valron: *He's already got the holding covered.*
Gelato: :I *He has no ears.*
KitRedgrave is now quite intently not listening, noise-cancelling earplugs in.
Xavier Ridgecrest: *Atonal guitar noises as he takes out his golf club and begins playing it like an air guitar, causing bits of fire to fly everywhere* "I... am... the Yellow... YELL... YLELLLOWWWWW... YELLOW SUBMARINE... BENEATH THE MILLION SEA... ON THE CITY... of ROCK... roll... ROCK ROLL YELLOW Submariiiaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh."
Metal Man (GM): It doesn't dodge. It just keeps walking. Flaming music notes collide into the shield and cause weird malfunctioning noises to occur on it. Kit would be able to see that the magic is so horrible it actually disrupts anything magical it hits a little bit. The room's lights malfunction a bit, the doors twitch oddly, some light occurs in a distant room, and the field starts malfunctioning. It starts flickering on and off, as the robot starts to stare confusedly at its shield-generating wrist. You can see it better without the field anyway... it has a metal face. It continues walking towards you all the same. When the field does flicker on, it appears to still function, just... 50-50 flickering most likely isn't making it the most effective anymore.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Take that, ancient futuristic robot!"
Metal Man (GM): Xavier takes out his DVD Launcher and a weird silver gun, ending his turn. Oh, and putting away his golf club. Hooray wasting tons of TP on weapon switches!
KitRedgrave: "We can probably overpower its shield with magic, come to think of it!"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "You're the first person to call my singing magical." *Watches a piece of the wall short out* "...I still don't know how it does that."
Nonna: "Well then... no need to waste energy using my bigger attacks." *She raises the weapon upward, and a dark sphere appears above her and expands. It radiates a feeling of dread and oppression before being sent at the living armor with a magnificent burst of dark energy.* (Diabolic Emission)
Metal Man (GM): The field blinks off, letting that attack hit the robot directly. The robot makes a surprised noise at the timing.
Nonna: *50 Damage, Darkness Element, Splash Damage, Status Effects: Corroded and Disabled. The remaining energy is absorbed back into the weapon, slightly empowering Nonna. Buff: Powerful.*
Metal Man (GM): The robot's shiny armor seems to protect it from being disabled. However the rest of it happens.
KitRedgrave: "...Or maybe whatever enchantment that is has run down its charge too much to work."
Metal Man (GM): The splash causes it to also hit the field when it turns back on. Anything else? The robot seems to look at Nonna as if to say with its face, "Now you've made me mad" Its pretty golden/bronze armor looks slightly melted from the corrosion. As if it wasn't bad enough for it that Xavier managed to sing so badly its force field malfunctioned... The Armor takes out a huge greatsword and holds it with both hands. It then makes a really loud charge-up sound and fires a gigantic beam at Nonna. It's a beam of light energy. 50 damage if hit, also it cannot be blocked (piercing)
Nonna: *Dodge!*
Metal Man (GM): Also yes, I have realized most people have around 100 health, so I reduced the damage from "AHHH I'M DEAD" so as to avoid the mistakes I kept making previously... It's light element, too, in case you're weak against that... The robot stares at you, somewhat aggravated its holy beam didn't annihilate you.
Nonna: (Nonna HP: 90/140) "...Ow."
Metal Man (GM): However, it has more problems than just you. It looks at Xavier and charges up the sword, then tosses it at Xavier's visor, causing it to sail through the air with supernatural speed.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Hey hey hey NO SWORD IN THE FACE!"
Metal Man (GM): Xavier puts up his hand to shield his face. He takes 19 damage, and the sword recoils back to the robot. Which casually throws the sword at Kit next, as this attack is much speedier than the other one.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Geez... no wonder nobody went in here... imagine TWO of those..."
KitRedgrave: *dodge the sword.*
Metal Man (GM): 30 damage if hit. It then holds the sword again and puts its point to the ground, and prays.
KitRedgrave gets predictably smacked in the face with a sword. Ow. (45/75 HP)
Metal Man (GM): A strange additional energy begins to glow around it that looks shiny and glossy. It then continues walking towards you, now 2 rounds of walking away. Oh... *applies corrosion damage too.*
KitRedgrave: "...Maybe not. What IS that...?"
Metal Man (GM): It looks a bit more damaged, the after-effects of Nonna's attack damaging it a bit more.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Beats me. It's shiny though."
Valron: "I don't know, but get rid of it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "If you can hit it, Gelato, hit it... otherwise probably heal the people who keep getting hit by flying swords. Stupid swords."
Metal Man (GM): Dispell would work on this, though. Mostly because this is a magical thing it did. But yeah, more general anti-buff should be somewhere. Something to modify system wise, yeah.
KitRedgrave would go on and cast Dispell on the suit of armor, trying to forcibly rip apart the aging enchantments.
Metal Man (GM): The shiny thing is hit by your spell and disappears. You see no effect as to the actual enchantments on the armor itself. Because whatever the shiny dome thing was you just hit ate it instead. 1 TP per EP.
KitRedgrave unleashes another mana assault on the armor, trying to actually unwind the enchantments giving it life. (More Dispell!)
Metal Man (GM): The shield around it is down. You hit it directly. You hit the armor and appear to have dented the enchantments in it a bit, but it still has more going on it, most likely because it woke up. Since like cross-classing in D&D, it is confusing, but ultimately ends up adding versatility rather than a giant all-conquering bazooka. XP
KitRedgrave would pour 2 more EP into another Dispell attempt, attempt to Quickdraw into the Book and cast Agility on herself from it.
Metal Man (GM): The thing has no luck with that flickery shield. You damage its enchantments more, but it's not yet disabled yet. Now roll for the quickdraw fail chance... You draw... one of your other objects, at random. Roll d(other things you have on you, equipment or item wise) To determine which thing. Well, you can abbreviate it to the ones with actual stats and that are major equipment like weapons.
KitRedgrave fumbles and actually draws... lockpicks. Not much help.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I wonder if you can unlock its secrets with those."
Metal Man (GM): Anything else?
Valron: "Doubtful."
KitRedgrave: "If it happens to be a common lock. In ancient ruins."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So... 25-75. We've had some crazy coincidences, but that one seems pretty unlikely, since it's Alsa. If it were Nintendus..."
KitRedgrave would anyway go get the book the slower, less awesome way and give herself Agility from it, and then end turn.
Gelato: D: *Cure, cure. cure everyone! One Cure on Kit, two on Nonna! That's 24 HP apiece.*
Nonna: "Thank you, Gelato. It hurts much less now."
Valron: "He's good at doing that."
KitRedgrave: "Yes, thank you. ...Wait, did you just rub coffee into our wounds? ...That is awesome. Probably really bad for anyone else to do, but awesome."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Saturn coffee technically healed people too. Right, Drago--Valron?"
Valron: "N... o. It just made them be able to do more things."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We should totally find it one of these days... Then we can use it on our enemies, to drive them insane."
Valron: "Though more likely than not they'd just waste time pushing things around and rearranging their inventory."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Because I'm fairly certain it was made out of poison or something."
Valron: "I'm pretty sure if you distilled it properly, you could remove any of the potentially beneficial effects, too."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I wonder if Gibby went insane due to it. Or maybe that was due to too much drumming in Side Quest. ...We should combine Garrick's cursed Magitek pocket drums with it, using Gelato."
KitRedgrave: "Now I have a reason to learn alchemy -- to figure out how to make it in a way that doesn't do that."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Then we could create horrific bongos of doom."
Valron: "Those drums are pure evil and I would not recommend it. Seriously, those things are nasty."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's all right, I have no clue where they went."
Valron: "I saw them back on an alternate Genetia."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "If I see Garrick, I'll ask him moments before I shoot him."
Valron: "Don't ask."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...I won't ask, then."
Valron: "I got to kick Glyph's teeth in again and laugh at Aetos while Dans tortured him for all eternity, though. So I'd say it was worth the trip. ...It's... also where I got Scott's guitar and that one device I stole off of some bum who used cigarettes like a lethal weapon from. ...It was a really strange day."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I should go there and kick Glyph 50 more times... ...oh yeah, it's time to watch Walther beat up the enemy with Lucha Libre moves. You can do it, Walther! ...Oh, right, they're across the room... ...uhhh, you can... hit them from afar somehow!"
KitRedgrave: "Shoot them with lucha bullets!"
Nonna: "What's everyone's favorite food?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Limestone floor tiles. It really tastes... green..."
Metal Man (GM): *The robo-soldier is vaguely annoyed that it's still almost a block away from everyone.*
Valron: "Anything with a healthy amount of meat in it. Lightly spiced, if possible."
KitRedgrave: "Inari rolls. Pretty much pockets of fried tofu with rice and other things in them. Other things like that... can you get them where you're from?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Razor ate things like that, so yes. We built an entire sushi bar on Nintendus, and then again on the Wing Fortress, because my order for the Wing Fortress was literally 'whatever is inside the Stadium excepting the Stadium itself.'"
Nonna: "Maybe not by that name, but that does sound familiar..."
KitRedgrave: "Very interesting. It's almost as if there was another place almost entirely like where I'm from over there..."
Walther Pierce: "Pass."
Valron: *He hums to himself for a moment, before going to try and quickly switch out the rifle for his own spellbook* "Ah, there it is..." *He promptly pulls out his spell book, flipping it open in one smooth motion, before finding the spell he wants. He snaps one of his claws, a the sound of swords clanging together as it happens. *(Swords Dance.)
Metal Man (GM): You power yourself up... anything else?
Valron: "And for my next trick..." *He puts the book away, before switching it out for the Magnetic Rail-Cannon, going to take a moment to aim, firing an explosive, swirling wave of ice.*
Valron: * Frozen Cyclone.*
Nonna: "Xavier... let's do it this time."
Metal Man (GM): The field cannot really get hit by many status effects (other than that one that freaked out its refresh) but it does take the damage.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh... that thing, right. I'll start and let you combine your attack with this."
Nonna: "Right."
Xavier Ridgecrest spins his guns and opens fire on the armor-thing with a hail of Gigli, From Justin to Kelly, and blue energy bullet projectiles.
Metal Man (GM): Okay. Nonna can then do her move, and note what the stats are for it, and I'll increase it respectively, then she can roll for hers. Ok. It deals 1.25x more damage, and gains Stun on top of that due to being combined with Xavier's attack... and also gets accuracy now. You can now roll for that... I'll also roll for the robot's shield. Shield's down, so these will be hitting the robot directly.
Nonna: * Powered Hræsvelgr! If successful: 116 damage.*
Metal Man (GM): 93 damage from Xavier's attack as well. A violent explosion of DVDs, blue energy bullets, and light energy hits the robot. 209 damage as the robot is knocked off its feet by the sheer amount of attacks thrown its way and the status effects. Xavier uses the rest of his turn to reload his weapons and take a defensive will commence after we do Walther's bit of actions in this gray area space.
Valron: "Very nice, you two."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's nice to do team up moves again."
Nonna adds to sheet's movelist.
Metal Man (GM): Okay, clarified what exactly was going on there, so...
Nonna: *Already having spent that energy, she instead gets ready to dodge any oncoming energy beams or swords. End turn.*
Metal Man (GM): The armor, having been beset by so many problems, spends a moment praying to recover from the status effects that would make it unable to do much of anything.
Nonna: "Stay down."
Metal Man (GM): After that, it powers up its sword with the power of lightning, and fires a giant forked lighting bolt at Xavier and Nonna.
Nonna: *Dodge?*
Metal Man (GM): Matches... just barely unable to dodge that one. 75 damage and stun if hit. Xavier holds up his hand to absorb some of the damage. He decides to then fire the mega-light beam at Valron.
Valron: *Welp.*
Metal Man (GM): 50 damage, piercing.
Valron: "Ugh... That actually stung. Bothersome." (75/125.)
Nonna: "That sure packs a punch..."
Valron: "They always do manage to dish out some solid abuse..."
Nonna: *Picks herself back up with ease, though.* "This... is nothing."
Gelato: *One cure on Xavier... and then he charges at the robot with a squeak, summoning the concentrated energy of all the Gobbus he's eaten!*
Metal Man (GM): His shield is down again. It's down more often than King Hippo's pants. You scan it... Let's see... how to properly phrase what you get out of it... Ah. The information you learn is this is a Vring Defender, one of their automated machines... they were an ancient technological society and these were their main defense models. You also learn that its enchantment is about ready to bust, if someone were to hit it with two more dispells.
Gelato: *Also, 24 HP to Xavier.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "You heard the goo dragon... ...I don't know how to do that myself though... maybe my music can do it again... ...That feels better."
Valron: "I... don't really have anything like that, sorry."
Metal Man (GM): And... Weirdly Timed Disconnections Are Evil
Valron: "...Hey, Nonna. Wanna try to team up as well?"
Nonna: "Of course. What do you have in mind?"
Valron: "You'll see. You just use the same trick that you pulled of before. I'll do my bit when it's time. But first..." *He hums to himself for a moment, before going to switch out his Rail-Cannon for the cube After he does that, he transforms it into the Brick Blaster... before pulling out the actual Brick Blaster as well. And with that, he waits...*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh man... two of those things..."
Valron: "Actually, Xavier. If you want to join in again and we can bridge this altogether..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Sounds good to me." *He clicks his guns.*
Valron: *He takes a deep breath, glowing brightly for a few moments, before taking aim with the twin Brick Blasters, before unleashing twin streams of bright green fire, attempting to straight-up roast the armor!*
Valron: *Max Charge Caustic Flare.*
Xavier Ridgecrest clicks his guns and lets loose a withering volley of glowing blue bullets of death connected with a huge horde of DVDs of the Happening, Birdemic and Jaws 3D.
Nonna: (To the armor) "þú skulu hætta atganga. órr sigr."
Metal Man (GM): And Nonna's attack has the same bonuses as it had last time, but she also gets Agile buff from it.
Valron: *And then, the residual energy from the charge seems to flow back into him, granting some sort of faintly glowing aura.* "And there we go."
Nonna: *Then fires her Hræsvelgr (this time unbuffed) to annihilate the defenses of the armor.*
Metal Man (GM): Its shield is up to be hit by all of these, this time.
Nonna: *93 damage, Confused, Stunned.*
Metal Man (GM): 124 damage, Stun from Xavier's shots.
Nonna: *Also,m splash damage, environmental hazard.*
Metal Man (GM): 406 damage total from this as the barrier violently explodes and the robot completely falls over again from all that damage.
Valron: "...Well, that's also fine."
Metal Man (GM): The robot still refuses to stay down, slowly getting up. It would respond back to Nonna's statement something hard to understand. It powers up and creates a tri-forked bolt of lightning, firing it at Valron, Nonna, and Xavier.
Nonna: "Ek bjóðja at. Yðvarr skapari es dauðr!"
Metal Man (GM): 50 damage if hit. Xavier holds up his hand, ensuring he takes only... 27 damage.
Nonna: *Agilty-buffed Dodge.*
Metal Man (GM): Still hit... so close. The robot clutches its sword and powers it up, ready to take out several of you. It sees that one more shot could probably take 3 of you out at once.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Hm, this doesn't look good at all."
Nonna: "Is that all?" *She grins.*
Metal Man (GM): It powers up one more tri-lightning attack, trying to destroy Nonna, Valron, and Xavier with it. The sword malfunctions oddly and burns out violently after this last attack.
Valron: *And with, that he's down. Still made it waste its' sword though.*
Metal Man (GM): Xavier goes to block, and manages to not die, taking 27 damage again. He's at 10/100 HP, though. The robot would throw the sword, but it ate up all its TP doing that twice in a row. That leaves the question of what occurs with Nonna.
Nonna takes the hit dead on this time. What was she thinking?
Nonna: *Unique Quirk: Indomitable activates! Once per battle, survive fatal damage with 1 HP, no matter what,*
Metal Man (GM): The robot seems mad enough to break everyone in two with its bare hands, as it's now 1 TP away from melee range...
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Ah... give us a heal, Gelato, this blasted thing's nearly dead, but we need Valron up to send it to Valhalla."
Gelato: D: *He starts stretching himself out... WEE-OOO-WEE-OOO-WEE-OOO, here comes the ambulance! He's using Medevac to give Xavier, Nonna, and Valron a bit of a patch job... and also rush them out of melee range!*
Valron: *He slowly gets up, pushing himself up off the ground, lightly shaking himself off.* "Oof. Well, that could've gone a lot better." (19/125 HP) "Never fun when I overextend myself."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That feels better..."
Nonna: (22/140) "You've got a lot of work to do if you want to stand up to us."
Metal Man (GM): The robot thing holds up a fist, as it appears to be ready to actually attempt to dodge attacks now that its magic thing is busted. (I'm assuming Gelato tends to do all his turn actions really fast, feel free to take remaining ones if I'm wrong this time)
Xavier Ridgecrest: "If we can land another mega attack, that thing's finished. If we don't... ...at least it has to struggle to try to kill us now. I can put up a shield for the three of us, if we want to turtle this, but that might not end well, given how strong it might be up close... Alternatively, hmmm..."
Valron: "I already know what I must do. And that's violently obliterate this thing." *He once again twirls his Brick Blasters, charging up again, before unleashing another two streams of highly corrosive death-fire.*
Valron: *More Caustic Flare.*
Nonna: "Ek em yðvarr meistari nú!"
Metal Man (GM): It fails to dodge. It says a cryptic line to Nonna, then is blown to bits. Xavier anticlimactically lowers his golf club, as he was about to smash it himself.
Valron: "Whew."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The first challenging thing in a while... ...these Vring were serious about their things."
Metal Man (GM): The other machine is still there, just powered off by that trick Kit did.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Maybe Nonna can inspect it, since she seems to speak their language."
Nonna: "It said its master would return soon."
Gelato: *He's sniffing over everyone, making sure they're able to move...*
Valron: "Well, then. Guess we don't exactly have much time."
Nonna: "Does that mean anything to you guys?" *She pets Gelato, telling him she was okay.*
Valron: "It probably means that they're close to securing the cure for their king. Merlon did mention that their king wanted it, after all."
Nonna: "It was ancient history, was it not? then again, nothing is a surprise anymore."
Valron: "Many ancient things have a tendency to persist for incredibly long periods of time."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "What's up, Gelato?"
Valron: "And given the level of technology, I wouldn't be surprised if he was preserved in some w... ay. Yes, Gelato?"
Gelato: *He looks up at Kit.* *Mix: Robot forcefield and shield with Xavier's armor.*
Nonna: "I can provide some rough translations for you if you require it, Gelato."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier stares confusedly as he gets a Nordic rune-powered ring around his Time Device and his Sword Hilt of Light becomes populated with that sword's blade.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's odd you noted that, because I was... going to say. The Sword of Light said this world had its own sword or swords of light..."
Valron: "...Huh. Interesting."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...And so it gave me a hilt in case I ever found something that could help give me one of those."
Valron: "Convenient."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Granted, in the outer world, this isn't like, some sort of super death weapon... but that's like how that evil thing Nonna has isn't the Sword of Darkness."
Valron: "I'm guessing the ring is what provides the force field the other one had?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...And being able to use equipment to empower my shield is good."
Valron: "In any case, we should look into making our own version of those fields. If only to improve the Fy'aar once I can... actually get it back. I'm sure that on top of its' own already-ridiculous shields should make it even more of a force to be reckoned with."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Ah right, that was the name for it... silly me."
Metal Man (GM): Nonna would be able to look over the disabled robot.
Valron: "With the new options we'll invariably pick up, I'm pretty sure I can make it into a ship unlike any other. ...With some help with actually putting my ideas into actual practice, anyways."
Nonna: "Let's see..." *She looked it over for any sort of data input or output things.*
Metal Man (GM): Behind the neck is a data port, which has runes saying such a thing.
Valron: "Agreed, Gelato."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Let's hope there's not like, twenty of these guarding the thing here. Even Psycho Illian might have trouble with that. ...Then again, if that's the case, we need to release some large scale antimagic EMP, I'd guess..."
Nonna: *Is it something usable or hackable?*
Metal Man (GM): It's... really primitive, but strangely looks compatible with Alsan tech...
Gelato: *He starts scouting ahead!*
Metal Man (GM): You see the stairs go down... into a longer chamber that's dimmer. Some sort of wall blocks the way, plus rubble. The marks of whoever was crawling through here get more definite and have blood by them, here.
Nonna: "Hm, let's try this..." *She'd take out an old looking tablet and tried to connect it to the port.*
Valron: "Ah, looks like we'll need a light source..." *He activates the flashlights on his visor, before looking over at the data port... He was going to see if he could just interface with the thing indirectly, but seeing as Nonna's already got that handled, he doesn't bother.* "Huh. Do you see anything else?"
Metal Man (GM): The old tablet gets a bunch of weird text on it. Raw terminal mode stuff. It's so primitive you can barely even figure out what it is. It'd take a while to be able to control this thing. Valron could plug his thing in, and discover similarly primitive results. It's really old and even magitek can't just magically deduce how to control it without some time. So while it is very open to being controlled... it'd take a while to figure out how, at least without something magical involved directly invoking controls...
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I wish I had a VCR to plug into this thing."
Nonna types in 'villugreiningin' via Runic IME... very slowly. Long shot, but it was all she could do with the tech she had.
Valron: "Ugh... I knew I should've taken Panel."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I could plug a smash dex into it. Then again, that thing that Nonna has looks almost as old as my Smash dex. ...Oh right, I don't have the right characters on my smash dex keyboard anyway."
Valron: *He sighs, trying to see if he can just shift through the code, piecing together things the best as he can while it code through his visor's translator.* (Computer-Connector engaged, if need be :v)
Metal Man (GM): It spits out a bunch of strange words only Nonna and Valron would probably understand.
Gelato: *He flails at the wall, trying to break it down... ineffectually. It'd be like attacking with a pillow.*
Valron: "It's apparently guarding a chamber that had the King himself in it, and it seems the ancient Vring had it ready for some sort of purpose..."
Nonna: "The King's Chamber is ahead, apparently--"
Valron: "I wonder..." *He glances about the code, checking to see if he can muck around with it and have the thing show them the way to the King's chamber and, well. Just generally assist them.*
Nonna: "The Vring built something like this, huh... that's scary."
Gelato: DX *He squeals in frustration, thumping on the wall with his feet!*
Valron: "I'm not surprised, considering the kind of power ancient Alsans had." *He idly taps a finger against his head.* "In any case, the King's chamber is dead ahead. I'd try to get this thing to assist us, but... I don't have the password to it."
Metal Man (GM): The wall makes weird noises when thumped on. It seems to shake a little.
Nonna: "I don't think we'll have the time to brute force it."
Metal Man (GM): Not breaking, mind you, but moving some.
Gelato: "GO AWAY WALL" *Thump thump thump thump thump thump.*
Valron: *He walks over to Gelato, glancing over at him as he sees the much smaller dragon mess about with the wall.* "Hmm... Let me see, here..." *He scans the wall, checking to see if it needs to be pushed out of the way or if there's some sort of button that needs to be pressed for it to move.*
Metal Man (GM): Also... I think I'm gonna pause in a moment, my mind's fading, or I should say my conscious mind is fading. I am still GMing pretty well. But it won't be much good if I fall asleep or lose track of things XP The last thing I'll do is note the wall... The wall can clearly be raised, but it's so heavy, even for all of you, it'd be hard to pick it up.
Nonna: "Perhaps it requires some sort of electrical field signature we can collect from our friend here, or try to emulate it."
Metal Man (GM): But it's definitely not locked in place there, if you could somehow make it go up...
Valron: "Well, then. Not exactly sure how we'll get this thing up..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm thinking we find out how to activate it like Nonna said."
Metal Man (GM): With that, I think we'll pause here. Pause
Gelato: *Roundabout.mp3*
Metal Man (GM): Good session, first enemy with some degree of challenge too. Recap: The Questers ventured deep into the Vring crypt, where they found a solid wall that was apparently movable, but too heavy to move. They also defeated an evil Vring Defender, who had given them quite a bit of difficulty.. ..And I'm gonna review the log for a sec so I'm not missing anything, it's a pretty basic recap though. Ah, right. Nonna and Valron were debugging the ancient Vring Defender to the left that had been deactivated, and Xavier gained a nifty sword and force field from Gelato 'combining' the equipment into his armor. The group is standing before the mystery wall, finding it could be pushed up, but is far too heavy to do that with. Continuation The deactivated Vring continues to sit there in case anybody wants to continue messing with it. Xavier is busy looking over his Alsan Sword of Light that was crafted out of that thing the other Vring had.
Nonna: "Perhaps we can find out if it opens via a specific bioelectrical field one of these robots possess."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's so strange but familiar..." *Swipes the air with it, taking out the Flaming Golf Club with the other* "...And yet they work together... You know... either that or we blow the wall to bits with a Team Attack, I wager. Probably would cause whatever's on the other side to get damaged though. Normally I wouldn't care, but I assume if there's anything useful in there we want it intact... And as an expert thief... well... robber... I have to say, getting things intact is key to actually using them. Been so long since I have stolen anything of note... must be what happens when you get old. Then again, this sword definitely isn't mine." *Prods the dead Vring with the sword and chuckles.*
Gelato: *Can he slither under it?*
KitRedgrave: "Let's not damage the ancient, priceless artifacts, okay?"
Metal Man (GM): You could attempt to slither under it, but the wall feels... vaguely energized.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We did kinda blow up that ancient priceless robot... ...ah, right, it was trying to kill us, unlike the other one. It will live on in the form of its stuff killing other priceless ancient enemies."
Gelato: *He's surprised that his master hasn't licked it yet.*
KitRedgrave would go have a look at the wall. But makes a mental note to look at the robot that WASN'T blown to bits later.
Nonna runs a search on the vring words for 'access', 'key', 'authorization', and similar words while in the diagnostics.
Metal Man (GM): Xavier prods the wall with the sword, and nothing happens.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Open Sesame! Wait, no. JUMANJI!"
Metal Man (GM): Nothing happens for Xavier. Meanwhile, Nonna detects a bunch of cryptic data about runes. Indeed, a bunch of runes pop up in the memory when she asks it about those words, and the runes aren't specifically ones that mean anything. They just show up anyway.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Time Device. Open this door!"
Time Device: "ERROR: LOCAL DISTANCE MALFUNCTION."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Smash Dex. Open this door!"
KitRedgrave: "Oh, we're doing that? Okay."
Smash Dex: "Ancient Vring door: NO DATA. NO DATA. NO DATA."
Nonna: *She writes them down, memorizing what she can.*
Valron: "Hmm... Couldn't we just... have Kit try and Panel the wall open, or...?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, I'm tapped out of tricks, so we probably could."
KitRedgrave looks in the book then. Book, open this door! Maybe?
Metal Man (GM): The book notes that the door is controlled by sub-magic and it would probably blow up the entire place with the force of magic if it used its power on it. The Book is, indeed, so awesome that nobody bothered to limit its power.
Nonna: "Okay, let me try something."
Metal Man (GM): ...Which is bad inside a sealed cave like this. However, the book does point Kit in the same direction as Nonna--something controls this door.
Valron: "Go for it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "You know... I really miss the eras when we just put C-4 on every door."
Nonna looks and feels around the walls for any runes. If this doesn't pan out, she'd clear her throat...
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Those were the days. ..." *Pries piece of a door out of his knee.*
Metal Man (GM): Nonna would feel a part of the wall that has a different texture than the other parts of it. Vaguely smooth.
KitRedgrave would also go actually look at the wall, having that cool ability to actually see leylines and the like.
Metal Man (GM): Kit would end up going to the same place Nonna is at, seeing faint energy around there, but unable to make it out since it's so ancient and faded.
Gelato: *He gently pushes the door with his nose.*
Nonna: *Would then trace the shapes of those runes with her finger, if she could. While doing this, she would carefully check if there were any indents which indicated any remaining shapes.*
Metal Man (GM): The door does its thing where it's a teeensy bit loose but doesn't move from the gentle push. Running over the patterns eventually traces out a rune that matches the ones Nonna saw. Kit could see that rune as being something that fit there, based on what Nonna is doing. It's just a type that would be almost like a foreign language to Kit.
Nonna places a tiny bit of the energy she normally uses for her weapon in the tip of her finger, and 'creates' the rune by drawing it with her magic-infused fingertip over the indent.
Metal Man (GM): The rune glows, and the door suddenly pulls upwards into the ceiling, causing a bunch of rumbling and dust. What lays ahead is a rather bizarre set of things...
Valron: "Well, then..."
Metal Man (GM): One is the blood in the dirt and a bulky-ish GUN soldier, barely breathing, laying to the side, holding something. Then there's a skeleton chained to a lavish throne, covered in chains and runic wards. With tons of runes around him and a bunch of very nasty looking pictograms.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, this is definitely unusual."
Nonna: *Reads them carefully...* "...Uh. That's not good."
Valron: "Really? Let's see how horrible it is..." *He idly muses to himself, taking his time to scan some of them.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Will we have a 5% increased risk of cancer from approaching the evil skeleton?"
Gelato: *He starts walking up to the soldier...*
Metal Man (GM): The runes seem to be translated really vague, as in 'danger' and 'skeleton'... yeah, not the best translation for you here.
Nonna: "BEWARE: THE CURSED KING STILL LIVES."
Metal Man (GM): They seem to be drawn rather sloppily.
Valron: "Of course he does."
Nonna: "HE WHO DOES NOT SLEEP BUT PRETENDS, WAITING FOR VICTIMS TO SATE HIS INFINITE THIRST."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, I guess this is the cure we needed! ...Please don't be the cure we need."
Valron: "It'd make no sense if he didn't."
KitRedgrave would glance at the runes. Any crazy suspicious tripwires of death?
Valron: "I mean he still is looking for the cure, after all."
Metal Man (GM): Kit would readily see that the area around the king is one giant tripwire. If the physical signs and blood-like runes weren't warning enough.
KitRedgrave: "You'll get something worse than cancer if you approach it, I see."
Metal Man (GM): The GUN soldier on the ground, on the other hand, seems to be much like Garrok--if not worse off.
Gelato: *...Someone might want to yank him back.*
KitRedgrave: "Don't know what, but it's probably something that will make you WISH it was Jumanji."
Metal Man (GM): The GUN soldier is off to the left, away from the doom, seemingly.
Nonna: "Could this whole place be a trap?...Gelato, get away from there."
Metal Man (GM): The soldier-man starts to sit up.
KitRedgrave: "Probably nothing we can--wait you're still alive?"
Deathguard: "I am a Deathguard. I cannot die until I have served Borne's will. I have foiled the evil plans of Garrick just by being here."
Nonna: "Is that so."
Deathguard: "Garrick had the facilities upstairs annihilated. The clones were killed. The one loyal clone defected. He then swore that all Deathguards must be destroyed, or else he would kill everyone in Capital City. I escaped and continued the work done in the lab."
Valron: "I see. How is the work progressing?"
Deathguard: "There was nowhere to hide. I fought Sloan's soldiers. I fought other Vring Defenders. I was attacked by Solarians. Illian himself chased me through these ruins. This was the only safe place. The sheer evil curse placed on this being next to me made it impossible for them to come here. They did not want to die. For I threatened them thus..." *He gestured to the king.* "'I will step over here and trigger the Death-King to destroy you all, and even if I die, then I bring you down with me.'"
Valron: "Well, then. Probably about as good a plan as any, especially given how tough you lot were."
Deathguard: "The work... it is not yet complete. The Cursed King has the last piece. That is the second reason I am here."
Valron: "...Ooof course he does. Otherwise, I'd imagine you'd have finished ages ago."
Metal Man (GM): The Deathguard glances around.
Nonna: "Why are you telling us these things?"
Deathguard: "To see your reaction." *He would take out his weapon, it being covered in blood and rusted.* "If you are evil, then you shall also come to attack me, and I will repeat my threat. If you are not, then you will prove to be useful to me. In either case, I have taken too many wounds to hide here forever. If you have come to destroy me, then I must die in the name of Borne. Treachery is the way of Garrick. I hide no secrets here. But it would appear the fighting has been long over, and those who sought to destroy me have been gone for very long... ...And the strange man who stands before us is not Illian."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Of course I'm not!"
Deathguard: "Last I knew, the Strange Man was Illian's hated foe. Any true Illian Defender would not be walking in, talking with him, and casually aiding him in his mission."
KitRedgrave: "I got a question. What exactly was even going on in this lab?"
Valron: "I guess I was never a 'true' Illian Defender to begin with, all things considered." *He lets out something of a weak laugh.* "Be it my luck that I originally sided with the worst problem early on."
Deathguard: "Surprised... that one who is here with Xavier, and Illian's Protector-Defenders... would not know. I see not Ederick, either."
Nonna looks to everyone else.
Deathguard: "The lab was to create a new body for Commander Borne."
Valron: "Ah yes, I remember that."
Deathguard: "Garrick invaded, at the behest of Illian, as a 'Protector' sent to protect us from ourselves. He interrupted the research. I was the sole Deathguard to survive." *He holds up a vial.* "I have all of the last research in here. I had to fight everyone just to get here. I would have fought you too, but the scattered radio transmissions suggested that Xavier was no longer interested in stealing GUN property."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Except for that ship that... nevermind."
Deathguard: "I do not know all that happened." *He stands up, using his sword to do so.* "But you don't seem interested in chopping me to pieces. Why are you here, then?"
Valron: "I think this was the first signs of Garrick going off the slope, but... I'm not entirely sure." *He shrugs.* "Regardless, I've no interest in fighting you. Or the king. We simply just want the cure. Then we can move on to trying to figure out how to salvage the continually-exploding mess that is this planet. Hopefully."
Deathguard: "If you are no longer interested in past conflicts, and instead in helping complete the cure, then I can help you, for that is my job, for Borne... who I wonder... if he is even alive. My only other wish is to find and kill Garrick for what he did. I must avenge my brothers."
Valron: *He glances over to the others as if wondering he should tell them or not.*
Deathguard: "Strange being who speaks in GUN text frequency, who is this man?"
KitRedgrave guesses at Valron's intent and just nods. Do a thing.
Valron: "The last living Garrick clone."
Deathguard: "My cure is very limited. It will not cure just any man." *Narrows eyes* "Garrok? He betrayed us. He was the last of the Defenders for Borne, to defend us against Illian's Protectors, and he defected... for nothing. What use is he alive? My cure is so that we can complete the new body for Borne and destroy whatever remnants of Garrick's vile plans exist. It can still be reversed. Borne has done it before... even if he is dead we could attempt to revive him, with the facility under the ocean... it was only partially destroyed..."
Valron: "...Ah. Well, maybe I should let you in on another bombshell."
Deathguard: "I have little choice, but I will do whatever I must to ensure the Will of Borne is fulfilled."
Valron: "Borne... is actually still alive."
Deathguard: "Where is he... and what has happened? Vile pretenders have taken over GUN. I killed some the other day."
Nonna: "People are not to be treated as tools who are useful or not useful. But besides that... he has an important role in allowing us to continue on with our journey. Borne is one of the ones accompanying us on this journey."
Deathguard: "What has happened to make him lose interest in the only planet that matters?"
Valron: "I'm... partly responsible for that. He managed to persist in my body in the form of an engram, though during our little campaign to destroy Illian, I... managed to revive him while I was piloting the Black Ship in an attempt to destroy Illian's own flagship."
Deathguard: "You revived him? ..." *He pauses.* "That is well and good. I request to return to him immediately. He will know what to do. He will know whether or not to cure Garrok."
Valron: "Ah, that's the problem. Our only way back... is out of commission."
KitRedgrave pokes at her Smash Dex. Never did try to see if it does cross-dimensional communications... maybe it can call Borne?
Deathguard: "...I see now. You have become Borne's soldiers in my absence."
Valron: "We got to this planet via a Stargate that we made. The way back is... out of juice, unfortunately."
Nonna: "Garrok is needed to return to Borne's location."
Deathguard: "You are fulfilling his wishes in the absence of others like myself. While I must question how you could serve without mandatory circuits ensuring your absolute loyalty and self destruct bombs in your bodies, the fact those were used to destroy the rest of my kin when it was politically expedient... makes it clear to me that there will be no other Deathguards."
Valron: "I simply want to bring some form of peace and sanity to this planet. I mean, at least the Republic's still safe and sound, but..." *He thinks to himself for a moment.*
Deathguard: "This cure must have the energy of that King thing over there."
Nonna: "...which is loaded with runic magic traps."
Deathguard: "I have been told those gifted with the arts of magic could attempt to obtain it without having to destroy him in combat. But I would not know how. The last Mage Deathguard perished due to Garrick's writ. We had more purposes than you knew back when, Valron. One use was to throw us at this thing until it finally died. It would have been bloody, but effective."
KitRedgrave: "We better have a look then. Luckily we happen to know a thing or two about magic... maybe not this particular kind though."
Deathguard: "I wish I could be of more use, since this obstacle has been something that has kept me stuck all the same. Without a ways around it, your traitor-clone will die and so will chances of getting back in a timely fashion."
Gelato: "That's a bad way to do things..." *He tries to give the Deathguard's foot a nuzzle.*
Valron: "We can probably manage to work something out." *He then glances over at the Deathguard.* "I see. I wouldn't doubt the effectiveness of that in the slightest. I still remember way back when the Protectors fought two of your lot. It was... rather hectic, to say the least."
Metal Man (GM): The Deathguard seems to be cold to the touch and doesn't react one way or the other to a nuzzle. Basic inspection would turn up the presence of a bajillion implants.
Deathguard: "Imagine hundreds of us versus this thing. It would go down, eventually."
Valron: "Again, I could honestly see that happening."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We just need a piece of it, right? That's more of stealing... and I think the trick is we need to grab it and then run away... a lot."
Nonna: "These runes were set up ages ago, or are some or all of them your own doing?"
Deathguard: "These runes are primitive magic inferior to what Jack or Borne would do today. We had plans to potentially use Jack against it."
Valron: "...Ah. I probably ruined that, then, all things considered."
Deathguard: "His holy Death Staff could have killed it."
Valron: "Has anyone kept track of where that thing last went?"
Deathguard: "It was exploded a while ago. I do not believe enough of it remains... it would have to be re-summoned using magic hidden from us by Jack."
Valron: "While I could use my cube to turn it into the staff, I'd imagine its' power would rather pale in comparison to the actual article."
Deathguard: "Jack is... most likely completely destroyed as well."
KitRedgrave: "Yeah... sorry. No Jack or Borne here to undo it. Just me, maybe." *She would very carefully inspect the pile of curses and death runes and such, to try to figure out how it's put together without us all being JUMANJI'd.*
Nonna: "Are they designed to activate in response to any stimulus?"
Valron: "Add to it, the Echidna did manage to... I think they managed to make a new staff, but my memory isn't exactly clear..."
Deathguard: "They will react to anything that comes near it, any magic, and anything it can detect."
KitRedgrave doesn't come near it then. Ever.
Nonna: "Range?"
Deathguard: "These runes stood for thousands of years. It's said even Metal Sonic stood away from it. We have some marks on the floor we made for that."
Metal Man (GM): He points to some faint but visible chalk marks on the ground.
Deathguard: "It took too long to 'reset' the skeleton to sleeping after it killed a couple idiotic lab aides. So we made sure to measure its aura."
Nonna: "Once activated, are they disabled after running out of juice?"
Deathguard: "The Skeleton King will absorb the energy needed to re-instate them after using his evil to kill everything around him, in this room and otherwise. The wall you lifted slams down when it is activated, to help deter escape. Borne used his Time Device the first time. It couldn't catch him with that. Then again, it couldn't really overcome Borne either. It kept complaining that Borne was already dead."
Nonna: "And this energy comes from his victims, or recycled from what he uses?"
Deathguard: "It comes mostly from his victims, but he had enough victims to power it up a couple cycles more. We did many experiments to determine his nature. Those beings you fought in the other room were even determined to be remote-deactivated by a special code."
Nonna: "Hey guys... did you see any remote controlled bots in the ship?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I don't recall the ship having any of those..."
KitRedgrave: "We have one in the other room if we had to."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh right... that one... That's right, I doubt it'll attack its own robot."
KitRedgrave: "So I'm hearing that our plan is to hijack that, remote control it through a time portal, and run like hell after we got the bit of aura we need."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, wait, do we have time portals? I don't."
Metal Man (GM): He taps his busted time device.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'd have gladly used my device to get us back home otherwise. If only for reinforcements or somesuch. Also perhaps to get Walther a hat."
KitRedgrave taps the time device she's had this entire time but didn't realize she still had. "I do. Maybe. If it still works here..."
Valron: "Maybe you could find that old hat I left behind and give it to him." *He chuckles softly.*
Walther Pierce: "No thanks."
Nonna: "We're locked out of it at the moment, though." *She'd turn to the Deathguard.* "Do you have a password or administrator account information for one of those Vring robots?"
Deathguard: "This was the code to make it stop." *He flips a card with a rune on it.* "Showing it that would turn it off. It was apparently partially what led to the downfall of their civilization."
Nonna catches it.
Deathguard: "It was a secret code... that became not secret."
Nonna: "Okay, be right back..." *She'd carefully exit the chamber, not wanting to set off any runes. He returns to the robot outside, hoping it wasn't already activated again by now...*
Metal Man (GM): It hasn't been activated so far. The Deathguard walks over to where everyone else is, then leans on a wall.
Deathguard: "Hopefully this works. I have sat here contemplating this damned skeleton for over 3 months."
KitRedgrave would go on and give the time device a try, to see if it still works.
Nonna uses the same trick as before to 'draw' the rune in the air with her finger, in front of the robot.
Metal Man (GM): The device fizzes weakly. You recall it wasn't terribly accurate, and it might run out after just one portal... The robot gets a strange look in its eyes, then looks at Nonna and says the word for 'INSTRUCTION MODE' and stands there.
KitRedgrave: "...*Sigh* We got one shot at this. Better make it count."
Valron: "...Really glad the worst I've had is have my soul misplaced in the recycling bin of the universe for about 7 years."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I was dead for a while. It... didn't actually feel like anything at all. ...It was also due to Garrick."
KitRedgrave: "I hope you all are the gambling sort."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "To put it lightly, yes."
Valron: "In this business? You kinda have to be."
Nonna: "Standa!"
Metal Man (GM): The robot stands up.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "After this, we should... I dunno. Feel like we should get ourselves a breather outside this universe, then maybe go and settle those rogue GUN people."
Nonna: "Fylgja." *Begins to walk back to the others.*
Deathguard: "I would not mind guarding Borne and wherever Borne is while that occurs. He must have had a reason to go out there. Even if he didn't, I will self destruct in 60 seconds the moment I decide not to defend him."
Metal Man (GM): The robot obediently follows Nonna, not skipping a beat.
KitRedgrave: "I'm not sure we should leave this unfinished for long. We kinda owe it to everyone on Alsa to fix it soon. ...Or at least I do."
Valron: "Well, at the very least you'll have me along for the ride."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, I wager we just defeat the fake GUN and... un-destroy the other areas left over... somehow. And kill the demonic entity inside the planet."
Valron: "I... at least want to do a bit more good to make up for half the crap I may have inadvertently put folks on the planet through by being part of that group of idiots." *He sighs.* "And that's not even going into the whole 'Protectors' stint, outside of managing to keep the Mushroom Republic safe."
Nonna: "Okay, I think it's ready to get the cure for us whenever we're ready."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And... I don't even know. What should we do about Garrick, if we ever find him?"
Metal Man (GM): The robot is sitting, obedient.
Deathguard: "We should exit the room of the Death King while this occurs. Otherwise it would be most unwise."
KitRedgrave: "Maybe the demon should be the first thing we take care of. But yes, let's clear outta here."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier walks out of the Death King room.
Valron: "I should probably not stand so close to the wall that's between this room and the Death King's then." *He actually hadn't entered, but will make the wise decision of getting a bit further away.*
Nonna: "Sitja."
Xavier Ridgecrest moves to safety.
Gelato: *He bounces out on Xavier's heels.* o/~
Metal Man (GM): The robot stands there.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So as I was saying, what should we do about Garrick, anyway? I mean... if we ever even find him."
Deathguard: "Give him a chance to ready his weapons, then destroy him in honorable battle, and bury him."
KitRedgrave would leave too, and kinda prepare to portal when we need it. "Show him how horribly wrong he was, and then do that?"
Nonna: "Let's go over the plan real quick again, to make sure everyone's on the same page."
Deathguard: "Also, you can close the door the same way you opened it. I assume you want the barrier to be down so the King cannot see you?"
Valron: "No idea. I figured destroying him would probably be the inevitable conclusion, but..." *He shrugs.*
KitRedgrave: "Can we be sure we can control the robot through the wall in that case?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm not 100% sure. I didn't ask the guy at Ancient Viking Radioshack what happens when you do that."
Deathguard: *Shrugs.*
KitRedgrave: "Oh, idea. We'll have to walk a lot more, but we can use the one portal we have to temporarily link these two rooms."
Nonna: "Let's test it?" *He inscribes the rune over that part of the wall again to close it.*
KitRedgrave: "I probably only have one shot at this, unfortunately. Luckily it doesn't need a line of sight."
Metal Man (GM): The door shuts.
Nonna: *Then shouts something through it in that language.*
Metal Man (GM): The robot knocks on the wall from the other side (the door having closed behind it)
Nonna: "It can receive commands."
Valron: "Perfect."
KitRedgrave: "Let's hope the king doesn't catch on too quickly."
Nonna: "Okay. What next?"
KitRedgrave: "I'll try to open a hole between... hm. Can't really trust it to be too accurate. Better not go a very long distance. Anyhow, hole between this room and the other, so we can get the robot out and get our loot without the king being able to follow us. ...assuming the king can't just rip the wall apart."
Nonna: "...Hold on, I just thought of something." *She shouts something way more complicated through the closed door.*
KitRedgrave: "...okay. What's the plan now?"
Nonna: "No change... just setting up an administrator account so the King can't order it to turn on us."
Metal Man (GM): You hear a faint command in the same language.
KitRedgrave: "...Right. Great idea. Should've already done that."
Valron: "Well, hey, good to see that it got caught sooner rather than later."
Deathguard: "I believe that is the sort of problem that led to us not attempting this before."
Nonna: "And changed the rune used to reset its access as well, in case his majesty attempts that too."
Deathguard: "..." *Looks at Nonna* "Because none of us actually understood the language very well. Not even with our technology. It was said that language diverged from their type long ago, in part due to the Death King and his civilization falling to pieces."
Nonna: "You pick things up when you're into linguistics and archaeology."
Deathguard: "The only one who we had... it was Marley and Jack. Marley was an agent of Illian. Jack was willing to deal, so Illian had him killed."
Valron: "...That explains a lot. Marley deserted, and Jack... ...Well, yeah. Makes me wonder where Marley even is, anyway."
Deathguard: "Illian knew if we ever discovered the linguistics behind these peoples, we could undo his curse on the planet."
Valron: "The guy seems to have absolutely atrocious luck with picking sides."
Deathguard: "Yes. If there is the wrong side to be on, he is probably on it."
KitRedgrave: "Well, maybe for once he can make the right choice and help us. If we find him. If he isn't horribly murdered."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "He's alternated between being horribly murdered and not for a while now. Luckily, unlike Jack, nobody ever bothered to make sure he's dead, yet. ...Anyway, I guess we can start doing the thing now?"
KitRedgrave: "Anyway, next step of the plan... rolling the dice, ladies and gentlemen..."
Nonna: "So let me know what I should order our friend to do. Maybe he needs a name..."
KitRedgrave tries to create a portal between this room and the sealed-off room big enough for the robot to go through.
Metal Man (GM): You create one, barely, it's a bit flickery. The robot can be seen from there, waiting for orders.
Nonna: "Now... which part of the King holds what we need?"
KitRedgrave: "We better do it quick, looks like it's none too stable."
Deathguard: "The gem in the center of his crown. It is what makes him eternally undying. If you obtain it, perhaps he will eventually die."
Metal Man (GM): The gem in his crown would be reminiscent of those emeralds Keikyoku and Flaeyn played with eons ago.
Nonna: "Okay. I can give the command. Are we ready...?"
Valron: "...Oh. Oh dear. One of those gems, isn't it?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I am, yes."
Valron: "Be... careful with that, alright? The last time some idiots played with one of those, I got chased out by an army of undead."
Nonna: "Are we getting the stone and leaving, or having the robot actually fight the King?"
Valron: "Taking the stone and leaving. That robot would probably be scrapped or shut down."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Leaving. The king is likely to take too long to die. Or even if not... there's no real point."
KitRedgrave: "Running. We could use a robot servant if it survives."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We can blow up the place if we really need to ensure the King can't get out of here."
Nonna: "Okay. Are we ready now?"
KitRedgrave: "Also I'd really love to study it. Anyway, yeah."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yeah, the exit's straight behind us anyway..."
Valron: "Yeah, I'm ready. I'd also like to study it... well, mainly the technology, anyways."
Deathguard: "The robot might be of use, if you can get it back in time... well, you need it anyway, what am I saying..."
Nonna starts running in place a bit and shouts a complicated order to the robot.
KitRedgrave prepares to cancel the portal the moment the robot is through.
Metal Man (GM): The robot hesitates, then begins to creep towards the King. It walks into the runic wards. The Vring King's eyes light up, turning blood red, as it beholds the robot and speaks something odd. The Vring King yells some more at the robot, straining in his chains, moving to take out a sword, but hesitating to do anything immediately. The robot reaches for his crown... The Vring King reaches out to stop it, but the robot already had a head start. A struggle starts ensuing between the king and the robot. It touches the gem, and a wave of energy flies out from it when it does so. It's knocked back, and the king stands up, but the force also knocks the crown off the king's head. It goes to swing at the robot, but its field is up, causing the sword to be deflected. The robot fires a light beam at the King. It seems to do inordinate amounts of damage to the King. The room inside starts to catch on fire, for some reason.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's like pay per view, only if it fails, we are so screwed!"
Nonna: "...I ordered him to only defend, not attack."
KitRedgrave: "Maybe there were already some regicidal tendencies... should we just cut and run with the crown then?"
Valron: "Yes."
Metal Man (GM): It picks up the crown, only to get hit hard by a slash, causing the robot to fly through the portal with the crown. It lands, shooting sparks, while the King screams some guttural roar.
Valron: "Now close the damned thing."
KitRedgrave cancels the portal NOW. NOW GOD NOW.
Metal Man (GM): Seems to be powering up some magical attack of some sort. The portal closes.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm not usually afraid of undead, but I have zero interest in figuring out what that thing wants... let's get out of here! ...Should we take the robot with us?"
Nonna checks the robot real quick, can it still walk and run?
KitRedgrave: "If we can!"
Valron: "Yeah, if we can, we're taking it. I'll carry it my own damned self, if I have to."
Metal Man (GM): It's gonna need to be dragged. It got an electrical fault from that sword hit. Seems the King figured out what was going on to do something with its sword that you hadn't seen before.
Nonna speaks some words to it and takes the crown, then helps to try and drag the robot.
Valron: *He, of course, takes a moment to pull out his spellbook and Swords Dance himself for a bit of a boost in muscle, before going to drag the robot out as best as he could.*
Metal Man (GM): Xavier helps drag the robot as well. Surprisingly, the room doesn't start immediately combusting or exploding. In fact it becomes eerily silent as you drag the robot out of there, outside of some scraping noises. The robot struggles to try and help. It assists, one good leg helping it sort of hop with you holding it up.
Gelato: *For what help he can do, he tries to help with Medevac! It's got Movement!*
KitRedgrave mentally thinks through something on the way... got it.
Valron: "...Okay, I wouldn't mind it if there was a bit of noise going on, but now this is just far too quiet."
Deathguard: "I have no data on why it would be so quiet."
Nonna: "Someone scout ahead for newly activated runic traps and wards!"
KitRedgrave: "I got something for us if things get much worse, but I don't think it'll work on much more than me and the robot. Or the crown if we're unlucky. Roger." *She would look ahead for any new lines of death or anything coming at us.*
Gelato: *He runs ahead of the group, bouncing off the floor!*
Valron: "...Probably best that the most durable one and the one who can best handle magic scout ahead, in any case."
