Space Pirate Commander: *R* "Those are some pretty nice guns you have there... Tell you what. Tell us where you got those guns from instead. We can probably still take you, since you clearly are outnumbered, but... those guns, the supply of them would be more important than just your piddly ship."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We could lead them into a trap and have them go to Erastia. Heh."
Nonna: "Good thinking. Digging around Erastia. The areas with the biggest, thickest purple clouds and lava. Not that such a small time operation could get at the big cannons even we couldn't budge."
Space Pirate Commander: *R* "An entire planet full of dangerous destructive things? That hasn't been available to us since Phaaze blew up! Well, as is our custom, we won't repay you a thing, but we'll let you live if you just give us the coordinates."
Louisoix: "I wonder why it blew up..."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier casually hands Nonna the coordinates.
Nonna transmits them.
Valron: *Is just shaking his head, trying not to laugh.*
Space Pirate Commander: *R* "Wow! It's so radioactive we can detect it from outer space! Just like Phaaze! Forget this tin bucket, an entire planet of guns and radiation awaits us!"
Metal Man (GM): They fly off like you just told them a million guns were in that direction.
Louisoix: "I suppose suckers are about as prevalent as dark matter."
Valron: *Once he's sure the annoying space bug-lobsters are gone, he starts laughing* "Pfff! That's honestly a lot better than what I had in mind. I was just gonna start smashing their ships into each-other with Kinesis."
Nonna: "Their own scrap will be used for the rebuilding efforts."
Valron: "If we can salvage it, anyways. Depends on where they end up landing. I wouldn't put it past some of them to try landing in the ocean, as terrible an idea that may be."
Nova: "They are about as sensible as Garrick could be, so I would expect them to land in a volcano."
Metal Man (GM): The ship gets closer to Nintendus. There, you can see... The ruins of Omnus' blockade. All the ships are destroyed or abandoned. There's also, unfortunately, some still operational space mines.
Valron: "Hrm. May be something worth salvaging here... if we can deal with the mines."
Louisoix: "...maybe, perhaps some way to get the shields back up, but we also don't have a whole lot of time."
Kumiko: "...welp... this looks dangerous."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The difficulty is, the native shields to this ship were destroyed pretty long ago. Indeed, I had to wonder what you were even working on when you first mentioned shields, but I realize... they go all the way back to Eggman owning this ship."
Nonna: "What are the mines activated by?"
Valron: "Yeah, how sensitive are they?"
Louisoix: "I see. Lets just call it magic and leave it at that." *He'd shrug.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, it might be an option, though we'd be sitting ducks if we wanted to try to attach them while sitting here. As for the mines... they're magnetically activated."
Nonna: "I have a plan."
Valron: "What do you have in mind?"
Louisoix: "Phht."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Thanatos is currently being held with the shield's power. Technically if we could somehow attach a chain to him and fling him into the bombs."
Nonna: "We can't approach them without them activating... while we're on a ship."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That is true. They are calibrated to blow up ships."
Nonna: "Omnus' ships are undefended. They can't protect against us warping onto them and setting them to go on autopilot to the middle of nowhere."
Louisoix: "Ah, I get you. We can do that, yes. Just make the ships run into them."
Valron: "I was thinking of using Kinesis to lob scrapped ships into the mines, but that could also work..."
Nonna: "We find one without anything worth looting, and have it take the mines away."
Louisoix: "Or that, yeah. More bang for your buck."
Valron: "...I'm not sure why Kinesis is being my go-to answer for a lot of these, but I guess it's just generally useful?" *Shrugs.*
Nova: "I have already found a ship that is devoid of anything other than a functioning transit system."
Louisoix: "Well, for some, sea mines are always a good solution. Some people just find something that's versatile and stick with it."
Nova: "The power is actually severed to the bridge on top of that. But you can probably repair it enough to collide it into mines."
Nonna: "Then once they're out of harm's way, the ship will stop and then all the mines will collide with it and blow themselves up."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I can open a warp to that empty ship... you have a means to breathe in space? There's some space suits on here if you need them."
Valron: "I don't need to breathe, and I am rather technically capable to begin with so, I could be of some assistance for this."
Louisoix: "Ditto."
Nonna: "Think you two can handle it?"
Valron: "More than likely should be able to, yes."
Metal Man (GM): A warp shows up.
Nonna: "Okay. I'll work as your eyes from here, and let you know what's happening."
Louisoix gives a thumbs up and enters the portal.
Metal Man (GM): Louisoix would vanish into the portal.
Valron enters shortly afterwards.
Nonna sets scanners on the whole area, so that there are no hidden surprises lying with the trash left behind by Omnus' fleet.
Metal Man (GM): Once aboard, it'd be somewhat familiar. The scanners continually search the area, so far not seeing anything active. Valron and Louisoix are now in the bridge of an old Omnus ship. It's got a wide open, dramatic bridge... with shattered windows. It's been abandoned for a long time. The controls are nearby, labeled in a bunch of runes, and also... completely destroyed.
Louisoix: "Alright, I'll get to work." *He'd sit at one of the terminals and see if he couldn't get something.*
Nonna: *R* "Nothing to see out here so far. Looks like just mines so far."
Metal Man (GM): Looking over the terminal, you see an explosion ripped it to bits. There's a bunch of wires that lead under the floor, though.
Louisoix: "Quite a lot of damage. I'll see if I can't bypass it." *He'd look at the wiring and see if he couldn't bypass the control panel.*
Valron: "...Well, that explains that." *He goes to Panel the terminal, seeing if that wouldn't help with fixing it back up a bit.*
Metal Man (GM): Yes, but not on this floor. It appears the wiring has been heavily damaged and up here may not be reliable if you were to try to control it up here. The floor around it is heavily dented. The Panel hits the control panel. Something interesting appears on it the moment you do... A crackly Omnus hologram shows up and stares at Valron.
Omnus Hologram: *R* "You would use one of my ships against me... this will not do. Death before dishonor by filthy Questers."
Valron: "...Well, can't say I was exactly expecting that."
Louisoix: "I'll take a look do- eh?" *He'd sort of look at it.*
Metal Man (GM): The panel then self-destructs before you can use it.
Louisoix: "...well, there you go. Guess we really do need to bypass things, otherwise remnants are going to blow up whatever terminal we go to."
Metal Man (GM): The wires are still there.
Louisoix: "I'll follow the wire's trail and see where it goes." *He'd do that.*
Valron: "...Damn, was a bit too quick. Was gonna attempt to use Disruption to get him out of the way, but it may just be simpler to just bypass stuff."
Metal Man (GM): You can try to panel a different panel, or go to bypass it. There's two other panels if you wanted to mess with that. Louisoix manages to get down under the floor though. The way down is just a narrow corridor with wires in it, full of debris and torn pieces.
Valron: "Hrm. I guess I'll just wait here. I'll try my method in case things fall through on your end."
Metal Man (GM): At the bottom is actually a bit of a dim light.
Louisoix: "Yeah, see if you can't find anything above, I'll check this out." *He'd go under, following the light source.*
Metal Man (GM): The light source seems as if it's some sort of power indicator. It's about 30% lit, the other 2/3 of it is dark. The wires connect to it down there. There's no obvious controls from here, but you have good access to this power junction now.
Valron: *While Lou does his own thing, he goes to check out the rest of the bridge proper, checking to see if there's anything of note aside from the panels.*
Metal Man (GM): Some old, dead Time Cops, preserved by the quiet of space. One of them carved into the wall 'DEATH TO THE QUESTERS' before dying. They seem to have taken a while to die. But another says 'DEATH TO AUTUMNUS'
Louisoix: "Huh, ship still has juice... though don't know how useful that would be." *Though a control panel wasn't obvious on the surface, perhaps there was some structure inside? He'd look around for a terminal by patting it down and, if there was none, he'd see if he couldn't get the cover loose to look at the inner machinations to get a clue.*
Metal Man (GM): And a lot of the damage to the ship appears to have occurred from some sort of magic weaponry. It's possible to pry open a cover. The damage has made it easy to pry open.
Valron checks the Time Cop corpses, mainly to see if they have anything of note on them.
Metal Man (GM): One of them actually has some sort of... personal computer.
Louisoix: "Ah, here we go..." *And with that he'd pry it open.* "Well, lets see if I can't jump inbetween that subroutine with that head thing getting upset. I imagine this is a roll."
Metal Man (GM): It still is sitting there, with 'ORDERS FROM OMNUS' on it. Inside of the power conduit is a bunch of switches, each pointing to different parts of the ship. Louisoix could potentially manipulate them with his fingers.
Valron: "Well, then..." *He checks out the computer, curious as to what the orders may entail. And if there may be anything else worth looking at, afterwards.*
Metal Man (GM): The orders are as such:
Louisoix: *Just flicking them to see what they did was risky. But not much else could be done really. If its use wasn't obvious by sight, he'd flip a switch here and there.*
Metal Man (GM): '1. Kill the Questers. 2. Kill Autumnus. 3. Kill the Outlier. 4. Free Mad Molly. 5. Return order to the universe.'
Valron: "...Seriously? This reads more like a shopping list than it does a set of orders." *He shakes his head* "I mean, at least make more of an outline or something, jeeze..."
Metal Man (GM): The ship moves... chaotically. Nonna would see the ship... move to the left. Not towards any mines, per se.
Nonna: *R* "Everything okay over there?"
Louisoix: *R* "Fine, I'm messing with some switches. I imagine you noticed something?"
Nonna: *R* "The ship's moving."
Louisoix: *R* "Really? That's surprising. Alright, I'll go through the sequence, let me know how the ship is moving." *Resetting the switches, he'd flip them one by one for a bit, resetting each time.*
Metal Man (GM): Each time he moves a different switch, the ship moves a different direction. Left, right, up, down, forward, back. It's a really primitive thrust system.
Valron: *R* "I see. Sounds like Lou's onto something, then. I've mainly been checking things up on the bridge. Not much to report, though I did find a well-preserved Time Cop corpse whose PC had some rather... nonspecific orders from Omnus. Nothing especially interesting, aside from some mention about an 'Outlier' that he wanted dead."
Nonna: *R* "Different directions... and outlier? This keeps coming up..."
Metal Man (GM): The PDA blinks when you say 'Outlier' at it. It shows an image of a metallic being and a bunch of warning symbols. More text scrolls by.
Valron: "...Ah! One sec, seem."
Louisoix: *R* "Alright. Seems this will be risky, but I'll manually catch the mines here. Then warp me back once we have them and the ship can drift in one direction smoothly."
Dragoshi: *Seem's something's come up.*
Metal Man (GM): 'The Outlier cannot be defeated by conventional means. The Outlier is a traitor. He is manipulating events to ensure that all other entities that can stop him will die. This once confidential directive has had to be hidden in order to prevent him from finding out we are on to him. However, with the potential of my death at hand, he has clearly outmaneuvered me. Avenge me by killing him before he can ensure Autumnus also dies.' Louisoix: Sound plan, although you'll need directions...
Valron: *R* "Well, then... seems that this 'Outlier' is some sort of traitor that's manipulating events to ensure that all others who can stop him will die. That, and he can't be defeated by conventional means."
Nonna: *R* "I'll direct you, Lou. Hmm. That description matches quite a lot of people."
Louisoix: *R* "Thanks, I figured that's how we'd do this. Hopefully I don't get blown up trying to clean this mess up, I don't want to die a maid."
Metal Man (GM): Presuming you go to direct Louisoix. What is your strategy, Nonna? That is, where do you direct him?
Nonna searches around for a direction that they could lead the mines to that would take them outside of any habitable zones.
Metal Man (GM): Ah. I have to clarify: they go off when you get near them, magnetically speaking. They don't stick to things, so to speak. At least, not as they are. This being SSQ, if you can reason a way to move them, that certainly is something that can be done. Yeah, didn't notice it initially. That said, you have control of the ship. You just need another component to ensure you get enough mines in one hit.
Nonna calculates the mines and their explosion radius.
Louisoix: *R* "Hmm, well, I think I can control this thing, but we need a way to drag these mines around if possible. Valron, what does the pattern of mines look like up above? Think we could daisy chain an explosion somehow?"
Metal Man (GM): They appear to explode within about 200 feet of their target. They aren't very sophisticated. Their radius can be up to half a mile, it being space, though.
Valron: "Let me check..." *He goes to use his visor to scan the surrounding area, checking the mines, and how close together they are.*
Nonna: *If they were to all go off where they were, would it be a problem?*
Metal Man (GM): It would be a problem, if the Wing Fortress wasn't moved slightly. The Wing Fortress is inside the radius of some of the exterior ones. The mines have drifted out of alignment since they've been abandoned.
Nonna: "Let's move the Wing Fortress back a bit."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Right... being close to the mine field is bad." *Moves it back some.*
Metal Man (GM): Valron sees a cluster of mines up ahead, near the ship. It seems this ship once overlooked a specific part of the minefield.
Valron: *R* "There seems to be a pretty sizable cluster of mines up ahead. Maybe we could use those to our advantage?"
Louisoix: *R* "I was hoping for that. Yes, if its large enough to give us a narrow enough passage. We just need some breathing room."
Metal Man (GM): The Wing Fortress is now away enough from the mines.
Nonna: *R* "I think you can safely detonate them there by flying the ship toward them. Unless you'd rather try to use your Kinesis to move them around to make for a better outcome."
Louisoix: *R* "Well, lets use the ship first, then we can use Kinesis as we move along. Faster that way."
Valron: *R* "Sounds good to me. Just as long as we don't accidentally blow ourselves up, anyways."
Metal Man (GM): The ship can begin moving, on your mark, Nonna.
Nonna: *R* "Easy does it. You'll probably want to get enough speed to really get in there. That way you can set more of them off, instead of being stopped dead by the outer ones."
Louisoix: "Right. These controls are really primitive, so its only going to move in cardinal directions. Lets get the ship in a good position and then give it full power. It has about 30% energy left, can blow it all on movement. Just gotta be fast about getting us out."
Metal Man (GM): Louisoix gets it going. Though, as it is a malfunctioning, dead ship, it begins to stray slightly from its course. It seems parts of the ship are literally falling apart. The Power Core is beginning to catch on fire, too. As it goes down, it goes from 25% to 20% suddenly as an explosion occurs somewhere on the ship.
Louisoix: *R* "Well that's not good, this ship is on its last legs. Guess that strategy is out, might explode just by moving too quickly." *He attempts to put the fires out that are doable.*
Nonna: *R* "Adjust your direction to these coordinates."
Louisoix: *R* "Got it."
Metal Man (GM): Turning off some of the fire isn't easy. You can only make it slow down a bit. Valron could try and panel parts of it in order to get it functioning well enough, provided it doesn't rouse the ire of Holographic Omnus?
Metal Man (GM): Valron can attempt to panel it, if he's quick.
Valron: *Right, then. Panel attempt is go. Best not to hesitate with this. And in case, the hologram does come back, he'll have a Disruption ready, just in case.*
Metal Man (GM): It turns on again. The Omnus hologram shows up again just as quickly. But you're ready for it.
Omnus Hologram: "You can NOT use me in this fashion. My ships will not be disrespected--" *Firing the disruption now?*
Valron: *Yep! Disruption is go*
Metal Man (GM): You hit it, and it fades momentarily. The fires are put out by the fire control systems... and now the ship is right on collision course. There's only one strange side effect. The PDA is updated with a new objective. '6. Figure out why Questers are using my destroyed ships to their own ends.'
Louisoix: *R* "Steady, Nonna, Valron?" *He'd confirm the trajectory with them.*
Valron: *Right, then. Let's see if he can't use visor shenanigans to lock that damned hologram up or shut it down, or something. Best to reduce further complications. R* "Yeah, looks about right. Had to deal with that hologram again. Trying to ensure it'll stay out of our way for the rest of this."
Metal Man (GM): The PDA glitches out, but you lock it down so no more weird chicanery can happen.
Valron: *R* "There. Should be smooth sailing from here on out."
Metal Man (GM): The ship's alarms continue to go off as it nears the mines.
Louisoix: *R* "Huh, acted up again? Alright, coming back out." *He'd come back out to where Valron was.* "...yeah, seems right. How much longer until impact?"
Nonna: *R* "Bail out and warp back if it looks to be too much."
Valron: "Let me check..."
Metal Man (GM): The irony is... You fly it at the mines, and they don't appear to be going off. A light on the panel says 'Navigating minefield. IFF active.'
Valron: "...Oh. I guess they're programm- Yeah. There we go. ...Maybe we can use this to just... deactivate the mines, maybe?" *He scans the computer, checking to see if the ship even has that sort of functionality.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: *R* "You seem to have flown into the mines without activating them."
Valron: *R* "The ship's IFF prevented them from going off."
Louisoix: "..." *He'd go back under.* *R* "Nonna, seems that this is starting to become a bit of a headache. The system has mine protection. So we either turn it off and use it or just kinesis them from here." *He'd flip the switches to stop the ship.*
Metal Man (GM): The PDA explains 'The IFF prevents from being blown up by our own mines.'
Nonna: *R* "Perhaps you can remotely program them to go somewhere else and detonate."
Metal Man (GM): Even more interesting... A button lights up on the panel. 'Collect Mines for maintenance'
Valron: "There we go! Looks like there's a button specifically for collecting the mines for maintenance. Just gonna use that..." *And so, he pushes the button.*
Metal Man (GM): The mines start moving into a bay on the ship and the ship just collects enough to clear a nice path. It'd be even more useful but it's now running out of power.
Louisoix: *R* "Curious, but alright. I'll reset the system to keep moving." *He sets the ship back to moving.* *R* "Alright, lets get out of here."
Valron: *R* "There. Cleared out a nice path for you guys. Seems the ship's starting to run out of power, though..."
Louisoix: *He'd come back out, standing next to Valron.* "That's fine. Once the power dies it will probably lose its protection."
Metal Man (GM): The panels warn it's about ready to run out of power, as the lights begin flickering.
Louisoix: "Lets go. We need a warp back."
Xavier Ridgecrest opens a warp on the ship.
Louisoix enters, obviously.
Valron: *And in he goes.*
Metal Man (GM): You return, just in time to see the ship lose power, and then, briefly afterwards, be destroyed by its own mines.
Louisoix: "Yeah, figured. Nice fireworks show. If I could eat popcorn I'd ask for some."
Gelato: owo *Explosions! He's fascinated.*
Valron: "Anyway, now that we've gotten that out of the way, we should just be able to drop Thanatos off, right?"
Louisoix: "Yes, though that whole experience was... odd. You guys killed Omnus right? Still, its like his remnants are all over those ships."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier moves the ship towards Nintendus, through the still glowing ruins of the ship.
Nova: "He was an AI. Technically we still have him captured."
Louisoix: "So we both have and have not captured him, since he's spread himself to multiple computers. Technically we just killed him too, I suppose."
Nova: "The remnants of him lack his full intelligence and cannot spread on their own."
Valron: "The main thing is that... Yeah."
Louisoix: "That's good to know."
Valron: "Add to it they lack the power the original had."
Nova: "They only live residually in his computers. We should destroy all of those in case somebody wishes to turn them on, but... we can get to it later."
Valron: "Since they can't really fling around all of Alsa's nastiest magic."
Nova: "It is like Red Text, except not. Red Text could recover from anything, even a small sliver. But Omnus cannot."
Valron: "We had to get rid of Red Text three times over before we could say he was well and truly done for."
Louisoix: *Stretching, he'd kick back and relax a bit in one of the chairs.* "Well, glad that went smoothly."
Nova: "Now... we near Nintendus."
Metal Man (GM): The planet of Nintendus shows up, filling the entire view. It seems almost infinite. The Wing Fortress lands ever so slowly, entering the atmosphere. It begins to reach the ground, and you see what looks like a sports stadium below. A very... old sports stadium.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Greetings and welcome to... Home Not Home. They call it... Nintendus."
Metal Man (GM): Nintendus
Valron: "Yep. This old place again."
Metal Man (GM): Just landing causes some of the wreckage of the old Stadium to fall over.
Louisoix: "This should be interesting." *He'd get up.*
Nonna: "My first time."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...I'm guessing nobody has really maintained the Stadium since we left."
Kumiko: "...what happened here...?"
Nonna: "Is that where all those fights were held?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Before I do anything... I should show you 'here.'"
Valron: "I'm guessing neglect and the general passage of time."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens the ramp to reveal the way to the Stadium, which has a green field of grass in front of it. And... overgrown, and has even overrun the main path into it. The front door is a sliding door... boarded up with a sign that says 'BEWARE OF QUESTER WRATH, DO NOT ENTER' Xavier steps out of the Wing Fortress, like it's old times.
Louisoix: "Place has really gone to the shitter hasn't it? Does anyone live here?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "They called me Metal Man... and no. Nobody lives here."
Valron: "I'd hope not."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It went to pieces on purpose."
Valron: "Yeah."
Louisoix: "Well that answers my question."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "They say it was bad luck here... as long as we were living in here, villains attacked. The way to the Dark World is actually nearby, but we need to retrieve some pieces from here first. Professor Oak had a device that could go to the Dark World."
Louisoix: "Well considering the sort of work you do... can't blame them. Good to have a moving house."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It was sold by Mister Game And Watch."
Nonna looks to the sky for any would-be sudden villains.
Metal Man (GM): The skies have those weird kind of clouds from Super Mario Brothers 3. No sudden villains... yet.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It is a good idea to watch the skies. Villains could come from anywhere."
Louisoix looks at the ground. "...then again, hard as hell to see through this thick of grass."
Metal Man (GM): It looks like the ruins of a parking lot, filled with grass. And old fliers.
Louisoix: *He'd pick one up to look at it out of curiosity.*
Metal Man (GM): Fliers speaking of 'Klumsy vs. Digi' and other such battles. It's really old, and the color has faded off of it. There's more strewn about, as well.
Louisoix: "...huh." *He'd let it go and let it drift off.* "Well, lets meet this Oak fellow."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Meet him? Heheheh. That probably won't happen."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier walks up to the front door.
Valron: "Yeah, I really doubt he'd ever come back here."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'd have you open this place but there's a security system... It's a bit hyperactive."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier pokes the boarded up door and the sound of a bunch of steel plates moving around inside can be heard.
Valron: "I even remember him leaving some sort of note here to say that he's done getting involved in wacky misadventures the last time Xavier and I dropped by the Stadium."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Pressure plates, spikes and fire traps everywhere inside. ...But that's what this is for."
Louisoix: "...kind of a nutjob. But from what you said... I guess that's fair..."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier takes out his Smash Dex.
Smash Dex: "...DING! Authenticated as Metal Man, Leader of the Questers. Security deactivated."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier then pries the bars off and the doors open... and stop part-way.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Stupid doors."
Louisoix: "Convenient."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens the doors all the way, revealing a red-carpeted... you could say, stuck in the late 90's amusement/related venue.
Valron: "Well, it has been left to fall apart, so you can't really say it wasn't expected."
Metal Man (GM): Complete with old CRT monitors everywhere, many of them cracked, that would show 'matches in progress' and a ticket desk, too. There's a bunch of old tickets strewn about as well as some old moldy cardboard concession holders. Off to the side is a 'staff only' section. Xavier waves his dex at it and it opens up as well.
Nonna: "What happened to all the other inhabitants?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The Questers? Some died. Some left."
Nonna: "None stayed behind?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Some went insane. No. This place is, in some ways, cursed."
Valron: "And some had other, stranger things happen to them."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "As long as anyone stayed here... Crazy stuff just kept happening! Even now, we only have as good a time as we do right now due to..."
Louisoix: "Ah, so they would've been shooed off anyway."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's dormant."
Valron: "Hell, Xavier and I are probable some of the few old Questers still going. Same for Demon, actually. Like... he's been around longer than either of us, even."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Demon is the only remnant of the Original Five Questers. I'm the next most senior Quester still around. Then by a ways further is Valron."
Valron: "There's probably a few other oldbies out there in the universe at large, but they've retired."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Gibby shows up now and again."
Kumiko: "This is... interesting."
Louisoix: "There's still life on this planet, right?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes. Actually there's a town full of 'Toads' nearby. ...They all stay away from here. There's a mile long exclusion radius."
Louisoix: "Huh. Well at least there's that. This place almost made me think the Questers made everyone get killed."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The energies here are still latent. The fear is anyone who goes here could become a Quester. ... The Questers did kill everyone, once. It was by accident."
Louisoix: "Oh. Hahaha..."
Valron: "It's... a long story."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier gestures into "Rest & Relaxation."
Valron: "And very little of it makes sense."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The universe was... a virtual universe. A book! A construct made by Time Cops... bequeathed to Wolfman. It drew us all into it... and we were too much for it, so it exploded. The original form of this universe is dead. What you see here is... a miracle of sorts. It was reconstructed twice."
Louisoix: "So that's what they meant? A virtual reality?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The first reconstruction... Illian got to it and drained all the magic out of it. The second time... I made it real using the Time Cube. Yes. A reality that was constructed. It's not as real as you or Nonna. In fact, parts of me aren't real at all."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier takes out his bizarrely always-burning golf-club.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And me and Valron were under the old 'lives' system where this energy was made to remake our bodies every time we died."
Kumiko: "I'm intrigued. Is this where it all began?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes. It began, something like twenty years ago, right here. There was a feud between some people who fought in this sports arena. So their leader, Wolfman, resorted to forbidden technology and gave the powers of its fighters to random bystanders. And then told them to kill the forces of those who rebelled against him. And they did. The rebels were not good people--they were undead, zombies, demonic warlocks... But the usage of unnatural technology to even the balance? It forever broke the balance of this world. There were people who were not supposed to be heroes wielding massively destructive power."
Valron: "Never mind the fact this whole mess ended up with soul being shunted off to the recycling bin for the next eight years or so..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And I died permanently two different times and was revived back by even more twisted means. It's why the Time Cops have difficulty if they want to go back in time and kill me. The me that stands before you isn't strictly connected. Because I already died for real at least twice. ...The point behind this, of course, is a means to go to the Dark World... sorry if we got a bit... absorbed in our pasts..."
Valron: "I'm not entirely sure where this whole mess puts me, if I'm to be honest."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier walks about on the red carpeted "Rest & Relaxation."
Valron: "Yeah, it happens."
Metal Man: "There's a broken case which says 'Transylvanian Man-Eating Couch"
Metal Man (GM): There's also a bunch of schnapps bottles that are empty that say 'PzKw' on the label. And nearby are a bunch of rusted old AK-47's that say 'Phantom's Gun stash' An empty fishbowl says "Property of Pat V."
Louisoix: "True, lets focus on what we need to do. We can relax and enjoy some food and drink or whatever and nostalgia it up later. Speaking of, gotta work on that when we get back. And have more time."
Valron: "...I hope that couch hasn't ran off into the wild to harass innocent bystanders."
Metal Man (GM): It's all been kinda set about like museum exhibits.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Does a Solarian robot eat and drink?"
Nonna: "This place will contain Thanatos?"
Kumiko: "It's a bit hard to contain myself right now, but... I'll do my best to assist you..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes... and no. We actually have multiple options."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier walks past the couch, into another room labeled 'The Big Room'
Valron: "Not exactly. This place will have the means to get to the place we're going to contain him in."
Metal Man (GM): It looks like the Briefing room, only more... 90's, and more serious.
Louisoix: "I'm... an exception. I don't at the moment, but thinking about it, its not a bad idea."
Metal Man (GM): With a huge table and a bunch of chairs that are now really dusty. And a panel with several numbers on it up at the head of the table.
Louisoix: "Kind of miss the stuff anyway."
Metal Man (GM): They have numbers. 1 2 3 5 and 6.
Valron: "The four button was cursed, so they got rid of it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "This is where I used to brief everyone, and before me, Wolfman. And a guy named Klumsy who we don't talk about." *He grumbles under his breath as he reaches the next door.*
Metal Man (GM): The final door is where the interesting stuff, or at least, relevant stuff is. Inside here is "Game & Watch's Official Store" Inside this store... is a glowing white pearl... a weird little rectangular box with a button on it... And a weird looking mirror. Amongst other items. All in a glass case. Locked shut.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Believe it or not, I do have the key to this."
Louisoix: "I'm surprised they didn't take it and place it somewhere else. But... perhaps these things are safer here."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I left these here in case we needed them later."
Valron: "Hrm. I take it you also recall which does what?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The Mirror warps the target to the Dark World. But the rectangular box... stores the being inside a prison that they cannot leave unless you press the button. Oh, and people were insane, so they would take turns with the being in the box. ...We're not going to use it. It's too dangerous."
Valron: "Oh. Yeah, probably not worth the risk of using the Transformer, then."
Nonna: "Perhaps he'll be interested in cooperating after some time here."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I mean. The transformer isn't a proper lock... Kuja escaped from one, for starters."
Louisoix: "Maybe."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens the case and takes out the mirror, and then shuts the case.
Louisoix: "From his little rambling monologue, I don't think he's willing to change his mind. But its something, and lets us focus on other matters."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And that's the least eventful encounter that's ever happened on Nintendus, ever. Phew. No crazies... no monsters... no complete maddening insanity... It's almost like those old days never happened!"
Louisoix: "Don't jinx it."
Valron: "Yeah, let's not chance things."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier stands for a moment.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Yeah, I won't say anything like that again. Too much danger."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens one last door.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "One last place and we can just go back the way we came... well, to Thanatos, anyways."
Metal Man (GM): The next door is... "Metal Man's Office"
Louisoix: "Ever miss this place?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "What? No. This desk is where chair-table syndrome happened. I did nothing but give orders and sit around."
Louisoix: "Fair enough."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "At least now I can potentially do more... That said. I didn't just go here to insult it."
Nonna: "Seems like this place was lonely."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier casually sits in the chair.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That's right. Valron remembers."
Valron: "As much as I'm not fond of doing so..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "There were nothing but lunatics and dummies, and well... kinda... friendly people who weren't much otherwise. I sat in this chair for a decade, telling them what to do. They were helpless without my directives, even though I was kinda dumb myself. If you can even believe that."
Valron: "It was all a bit of a mess."
Kumiko: "Hm..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And... I stole a ton of coins."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens a floor panel and takes out a bag loaded with coins.
Valron: "Ah, yes. I recall you flat-out admitting to embezzling a few times before. And no one really seeming to be that bothered. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was just '...Th' hell are we gonna do about it?' or something else, but..." *Shrugs.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "They come out of blocks. It's not like there's a real economy here or anything. It's just rare they make it so far away that people in real worlds are afflicted by the way they devalue gold. Anyway... any other questions? Although it's time to go and complete this journey... and send that dragon to the Dark World."
Louisoix: "Not on my end."
Valron: "I've got nothin', honestly."
Nonna: "You okay, Xavier?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Very well. It is time to vote on the mission. We will destroy Ganondorf and then save Toad Town 3 from the attack of the fifty foot tall--oh look at me, I've gotten stuck in my memories again." *Gets up and goes to open the door out.*
Metal Man (GM): He pauses a bit as he opens that door.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well... It's been something I've tried to forget, to be honest. It can be a bit much to remember sometimes."
Valron: "Last I checked the garage was thoroughly empty, and while maybe looking into one of the few worthwhile things CAC tech had might be worth something, well... We have your limo, so that's not really that big a deal if we ever want to take a deeper look into CAC stuff whenever." *He shrugs, before following Xavier out.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "That's right. I still have you from then, Valron. And Demon. I don't need to dwell on the old stuff. Them... and the New Questers. Here, I'll even let one of you use the mirror so you can feel what it's like to be an old Quester, minus the insanity. Which one though... will it be you, Kumiko? Or you, Nonna? Or you, Louisoix?"
Kumiko: "This kind of stuff reminds me of a short story that felt like it was written by someone who may or may not have been on drugs... Hrm... Is it relevant to what we're about to handle?"
Louisoix: "Considering the stories... is that wise?" *He'd chuckle anxiously.*
Valron: "The mirror? Yeah. It's what we'll be using to imprison Thanatos."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It'll be used to imprison him. Push the button on the back and it'll send what you point to the Dark World."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier would go to walk to where Thanatos is imprisoned, gesturing for the others to follow.
Nonna: "...I'm good."
Valron: *And so, he follows.*
Metal Man (GM): You walk into the ship bay, where, well, Thanatos is still trapped.
Nonna: *Follows.*
Thanatos: "--You will all be destroyed. You cannot hope to deal with the Time Cops... you'll become them, if you aren't destroyed by them."
Louisoix: "Still going on about that?"
Thanatos: "Ah, you finally came here!"
Nonna: "This will be your new home for a while."
Louisoix: "Indeed. On both counts."
Kumiko: "I don't exist to them. Time for you to move on."
Nonna: "Not quite as good as Onta'vis, but at least here you won't be slaughtering innocents for looking at you funny. Not even your precious Time Cops were doing that. Those that were, well, we killed them."
Thanatos: "You should really listen to me. I'm correct and you're wrong! Wait, what is this place..."
Metal Man (GM): Thanatos makes some random scrying spell, and then he seems to gasp a bit.
Louisoix: "Thought you'd like it."
Thanatos: "You fools! This is the cursed realm! Where the worst virtual beings came from! You've gone to the center of the corruption that plagues this universe... the Thrash Energy..."
Valron: "You'll fit right in."
Louisoix: "Well, we figure that you won't tell us anything. And considering you're a bit... hostile, to put it lightly, there's not much options."
Thanatos: "The Dark Desire! The world annihilating vortex that destroys itself! It will consume you and the outlier will succeed! The Time Cops blocked it off for your own protection!"
Louisoix: "Outlier, eh?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So, Kumiko or Louisoix, who shall push the button?"
Louisoix: "Its my idea, I should hold responsibility."
Thanatos: "The Virtual beings... they serve the Outlier despite not knowing it..."
Kumiko: "I'm ready... no matter what."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Sure." *Hands Louisoix the mirror.*
Valron: "There's that 'Outlier' again. Seems to be a notable entity that keeps popping up lately. At least, references to the damned thing, anyway."
Thanatos: "You cannot escape your fate. Even though it has become clear why you held such an edge against me... YOU are Virtual beings... YOU came from here, didn't you?"
Kumiko: "According to what little I remember, fate doesn't exist."
Thanatos: "The Time Cops made this place to contain the dark evil... and they will use Fringe to erase it sooner or later. It was just that I was going to erase them first and then you. But if you insist on forcing them to finish the job? That is your problem... not mine."
Louisoix: "...this guy doesn't like explaining himself much, does he? Sounds like a conspiracy theorist." *He'd look to the others to see if they were getting any of this.*
Kumiko: "Fate doesn't exist, because we make our own decisions to forge our paths. If this decision means we may face a new threat, then so be it."
Valron: "Honestly, at this point, flirting with supposed certain catastrophe is kinda like a pre-breakfast exercise at this point."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's someone who really wouldn't want us to exile him. That's all."
Louisoix: "Well, think on things for a while Thanatos. Perhaps we can make an arrangement later. At least you won't be too cramped." *He'd hold up the mirror, ready to activate it.*
Thanatos: "Well if you wish, but others will rescue me. So go ahead, do your worse."
Louisoix: "That'll be interesting if it happens, then." *He'd then activate it.*
Metal Man (GM): A weird flash of light occurs and Thanatos disappears into a hole in reality, then vanishes. It's almost a bit too casual, how the mirror does it.
Louisoix: "...well, there's that. Wish we could've gotten more information out of him immediately, but that's neither here nor there."
Metal Man (GM): And that was just casually in a glass case???
Xavier Ridgecrest: "He was giving us crazy babbling nonsense talk. He lost his chance to negotiate when all he could do is tell us how he had the upper hand."
Louisoix: "Seemingly. This outlier stuff is curious though, but there's no other evidence for it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And he can always try again... a friend of ours can be on the lookout."
Kumiko: "Outlier... I suppose that could come up more later on."
Metal Man (GM): Out of nowhere, another figure walks aboard the ship.
Valron: "Yeah, it certainly will, I'd... bet."
???: "Why yes. Is this... the New Questers? The ones not founded on uselessly attacking me?"
Valron: "Why yes, yes it is."
Metal Man (GM): A dark skinned man wearing various robes, with a rather large sword, and a clear dark aura.
Louisoix: "...I guess you're right Xavier, people do show up randomly here."
Ganondorf: "It's so odd to be me, Ganondorf, and yet... You aren't bent on killing me. I will keep track of this dark dragon you have randomly imprisoned in my Dark World."
Valron: "Much appreciated."
Louisoix: "Well be careful, he likes firing black holes."
Ganondorf: "If they wish to talk, I will send you the message with my magic. Oh really. Is that all he does?"
Louisoix: "...what kind of people do you run into, Xavier?"
Nonna: "He's also really annoying."
Ganondorf: "Oh, so just like a Quester."
Valron: "Singularities, magic... He probably has an artifact or two up his sleeve as well, I'd bet. Given how he was talking."
Ganondorf: "Artifacts, huh. I have the Triforce. Well... one third of it. But if he is truly evil, Link can fight him. My darkness won't do much against another evil being. Otherwise I would have gone off this planet and conquered that Alsa I've heard about."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I've run in to... uh... This guy is one of the more normal ones."
Louisoix: "Well, appreciate the help. I was figuring I'd have to do some sort of obtuse method of reaching him and then escaping the Dark Realm just to talk to him."
Ganondorf: "Oh yes. I would love to see you go there. What would a robot turn in to when exposed to the evil energies in there?"
Louisoix: "Good question. Lets not find out for now."
Ganondorf: "...But the deal we made is that this insane Metal Man protects this planet, so I won't plague you with my evil. So you won't find out unless you use that mirror and jump in yourself, on purpose. And that would be so ridiculous... you'd have to be an old Quester to do that, not a New one. ...And if you did I'm pretty sure he'd leave you there because of what happened when he went out of his way to save the likes of Aetos or Garrick."
Louisoix: *He was totally going to do that.* "Well, anyway..."
Valron: "Yeah. We've got better things to do than, well... that sort of ridiculousness."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, we should be on our way. Is there any other reason for you to be here, Ganondorf?"
Ganondorf: "Well... I have to admit. It's weird seeing you not act as Wolfman's weapons of war. I get flashbacks whenever I see the likes of you or hear those doors open on the Stadium. To think we were at eachother's throats... when in reality both of us would hate Link the same."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes. Someone who mindlessly fights in a cycle with magical artifacts, never thinking to break it... though you're also at fault for cursing those innocent people of Hyrule."
Ganondorf: "Well, it's too bad for you... they'll always feel my wrath."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I know. Remember? I killed you forever and then the entire planet exploded. You're a load-bearing villain."
Ganondorf: "Wha?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh right. In this world I didn't do that."
Valron: "...I'm not going to ask."
Ganondorf: "I'm going to... go on my way now. I'm beginning to remember why I don't talk to you."
Metal Man (GM): He backs away slowly and walks away.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...That whole time with the Book began because I killed all the villains on Nintendus. They all died after they became one huge superbeing who we killed."
Louisoix: "Convenient."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Anyway... we fixed the main problem. And the only villain who showed up was the one I bribed off years ago."
Louisoix: "Well, glad that's settled. Lets get out of here. Though honestly I feel like we're missing something."
Valron: "Now let's leave before someone unexpected and evil comes."
Louisoix: "Yeah, I'm sure the locals will appreciate it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "What kind of thing do you think we're missing?"
Nova: "Yes, I already tuned into the news."
Metal Man (GM): Nova turns on the Toad Town news on the intercom.
Toad Town News: "Toads everywhere evacuated Toad Town 2 after a confirmed Quester Sighting! Fears of death by sudden explosions up 10,000%! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!"
Kumiko: "Are the Questers that reviled here...?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Tell them that the New Questers are here. None of that Old Quester nonsense."
Nova: "Doing so..."
Louisoix: "Yeah, they'd really, really appreciate it..."
Toad Town News: "This just in. New Questers, not the old Questers, have shown up. ...NEW AND UNEXPECTED THINGS MIGHT HAPPEN! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "...Some things don't change."
Kumiko: "Naivete is in the air."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Anything you'd want to know, Louisoix? Before we leave, anyway."
Louisoix: "Perhaps we should check out those ships in the mined area. That or make sure we didn't leave that planet to be taken back over. Not here, anyway."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "What, Onta'vis? Last I checked, Vetrek and Zinyo were in control. And we just sent the next biggest threat to the Dark World. As for people taking this place over... good luck. It's cursed."
Valron: "Yeah, they'll more than likely just get mired in whatever general wackiness happens here."
Louisoix: "No, I think if that dark fellow is around this place is probably fine, especially if someone exists who can beat him anyway."
Nonna: "The Peacekeepers are keeping watch."
Louisoix: "Its more that conspiracy theory talk. Its curious that Thanatos followed up on the idea that Omnus was rambling about. Either its just a long shared conspiracy theory or there's something we don't know."
Valron: "It's something worth looking into, regardless."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm just glad we visited."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier takes out all his coins.
Louisoix: "Oh? Maybe you did miss it a bit after all."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I can finally bling out all my equipment... with my secret coin hoard that Doctor Mario never found."
Louisoix: "Or not."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh. Well I missed it enough to want to see it again. But not really to stay. My home is the Wing Fortress and Erastia, now. And you guys."
Louisoix: "That's touching."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I hate to say it..." *He goes to close the landing hatch* "Those old Questers weren't much of my friends, except the few who stayed on, and well, Razor."
Louisoix: "Oh, right. Do you want to keep this mirror around?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Good riddance to most of 'em. Wolfman weaponized people and it made most of 'em into crazy jerks. Oh yeah. But let's put it somewhere safe. It's a dangerous thing."
Kumiko: "They sound... like an old group I recall loosely. The only loyal person was a princess I merely called my "*liege*""*...*
Louisoix: "Yeaaah. I was going to say."
Kumiko: "Too bad that's... all I can remember."
Xavier Ridgecrest goes to take the mirror back.
Louisoix hands it back to him.
Kumiko: "The rest of my group was insane."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'll leave that ruined Stadium around... oh. Nova, did you lock up the Stadium for me?"
Nova: "Of course I did. All the old horribly insecure SIMBER-based commlinks are still active."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Really? We gotta upgrade those sometime."
Nova: "You're the one who always leaves 15 minutes after we visit."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I just don't want to be trapped in a Nintendian drama is all." *Walks back to the bridge.*
Louisoix: "I think I'll get to work on this whole eating drinking thing. I'll talk with Borne on how to make it work. Would be faster than me trying to figure it out myself." *With that he'd walk off.*
Kumiko: *Holding her head a bit, feeling a bit woozy.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh no... I was just joking and now he'll actually figure out how to do it for real... Yet another person I've accidentally corrupted with my insanity." *Chuckles in a joking sense.*
Valron: "...What an odd fellow."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier turns on the thruster, and the ship begins to lift off of Nintendus.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well. Farewell, Nintendus. Dunno when I'll revisit, but..."
Kumiko: "Ugh, seems my head feels hazy. I'll stay quiet as I try to process everything that just happened..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Maybe next time I'll actually have a reason to stay longer."
Nonna: "Need to have another minute, Xavier?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Hmmm? Another minute on Nintendus? ...Not sure what I'd do with it, to be honest."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier gestures to the weird, multicolored lands below, as the ship flies over them.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "In a way we ruled this planet... in another way it ruled us."
Valron: "I'm just glad we managed to keep our business short."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Years and years... but ultimately it was in the way of my ultimate goal--to save my homeworld. ...That said, we could probably hold some sort of fighting tournament when all this world saving stuff is over."
Valron: "Mind, that may be because I was still lived there for a bit even after the whole Evil Wolfman incident, so... I'm not exactly as keen on coming back to it that often." *He shrugs.*
Nonna: "Shall we, then?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes, off we go." *Flips switches and goes on off* "Now your homeworld, Nonna... that is a place that's worth visiting for longer. At least, maybe to eat the food there. Maybe Louisoix can figure out how to eat there too... ...weird as that is."
Nonna: "Well, Grandpa's more understanding of your situations now. At the very least, you won't be antagonized."
Kumiko shakes her head a bit, still seemingly off a bit.
Metal Man (GM): The ship makes its way towards Rendar, as it now has full shields again. And with that, we conclude this session. Session complete.
