Date: 5:24:05 PM, May 28th, 2017.
Metal Man (GM): Recap: The New Questers captured Vetrek and interrogated him.
After a series of statements, they learned that Vetrek thought the Time Cops were helping him and that he was merely there as some sort of person trying to prevent 'outliers' from manipulating Onta'vis. However, the Time Cops technically count as Outliers themselves.
The Questers thus made a deal: if he turned against the Time Cops, they would drop him off and let him consolidate control, as long as he turned against them and thus deprived the Time Cops of control over Onta'vis. The group decided to drop him off in an area where the cameras had previously been destroyed by Illian and Kit so as to avoid Thanatos being able to just see him and kill him before he could get to safety.
In the meantime, the Time Cop-backed fleet of unknown provenance appears to be flying into view and is up to... something.
The group is on the Bridge or, barring that, wherever they might prefer to be, as the Wing Fortress nears the drop-off zone and is in Onta'vis orbit.
A comms light is blinking.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I'm receiving a comms hail from Zinyo. It appears to be for... Nonna, Kit, or Kumiko, huh."
Kumiko: "Eh...?"
Nonna: "I'll take it."
King Demon: "Zinyo? why do I know that name?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's one of the Five Corporations of Onta'vis."
Metal Man (GM): Nonna gets the comms, though it's seemingly screened so only she can see it.
King Demon: "Oh, right, the one we were employed by. Err, they were."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "While they discuss that, I'm busy scanning the area... we have a little bit of a situation down there. Colaxus soldiers have begun to swarm all over the place since Vetrek vanished, and to make matters worse, the no-name ships are getting ready to land on the planet as well. It could break out into a war if we are not careful."
Louisoix: "Might've been their backup plan."
King Demon: "So... we get to be peacekeepers by going to war again?"
Valron: "Well, then. That's... rather unfortunate."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I wouldn't suggest we begin a war. Millions of people could die. This isn't Erastia. It's a civilian megaplanet. For better or worse, Erastia was a barren wasteland. Anyone still there knew what they signed up for. Most of these people don't, and even if they did, have nowhere to go."
King Demon: "What can we do to stop them other than pick a fight?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Hmmm..."
Louisoix: "Don't know, we have no clue what they want to do specifically."
Kumiko: "All I remember to do is fight, yet I know that's no solution..."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "What I can say is we have Vetrek, so he may be key to whatever non-violent solution we might do."
Louisoix: "Hurry to do what? Ah, is that right?" *He would scratch his chin, not really knowing how fast on their feet everyone else was.*
Nonna gets off the comms, looking worried.
Louisoix: "What's up, Nonna?"
Valron: "...Hrm. I take it things aren't looking too hot, huh."
Nonna: "I need to speak to Vetrek, and then to Autumnus."
Louisoix: "Autumnus?"
King Demon: "Autumnus? Seriously?"
Valron: "...Wait, why do we need to speak to Autumnus?"
Nonna: "Those ships... there's a good chance that it's an invasion fleet aligned with Thanatos."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, Vetrek is... right here, if you don't mind talking with him up here."
Valron: "Well, it'd make sense, given they kinda match the whole 'obnoxiously mysterious, but not really' aesthetic he has going."
Nonna goes to him immediately.
Metal Man (GM): A panel opens up. Vetrek is sitting in a nearby room with a clear wall--clearly some sort of force field/container, but not as harsh as the previous one.
King Demon: "Why would ships aligned with Thanatos want Vetrek back? Doesn't Thanatos want Vetrek dead just as much as everyone else?"
Louisoix: "I wonder what's up with that?"
Vetrek: "Oh. Are we there yet?"
Nonna: "Vetrek. Things have changed. You're going to have to use all of your bought influence to have the corporations work together with Zinyo to evacuate all of the civilians to underground shelters."
King Demon shrugs and follows.
Metal Man (GM): Yes, this is just across the bridge. Near the loading ramp. It can be heard by all.
Louisoix: "...so that's what they're up to. Thought as much..."
Vetrek: "Of course. Once I finish my acquisition of Zinyo, they will have to listen to me."
Nonna: "Thanatos has made his move. He's launched a complete invasion of the planet and because of the political situation, the heads of the corps aren't coordinating at all."
Louisoix: "If they lost Vetrek, they would either just find someone else or just take the planet by force instead."
Vetrek: "Really? I figured they would have dealt with him already... Should have known his nonsense about taking a sabbatical was wrong... He told me he wasn't interested in doing his job anymore and didn't mind me running Colaxus... what a liar."
Nonna: "His forces are massive. Onta'vis itself is in danger. I've asked Zinyo to put aside its dispute with you for the time being. I'm asking you to do the same for the sake of your planet. Plus, you can even be seen as a hero."
Vetrek: "Yes. I will land, tell the Time Cops I do not serve them anymore, take control of Zinyo, then used the united Onta'vis to oppose this madness of Thanatos. I can simply fire him. Hm?" *He raises an eyebrow.* "I know they did not want me to acquire them, but how can I trust them? There could be another Thanatos in their ranks, too. I mean, you have generally been correct but... I know those people, they are headstrong in the extreme."
Nonna: "That's what we're going to handle."
Vetrek: "Well, fine. I can probably try again to acquire them after everything else is handled... I will just use my role in this as a reason to prove to the shareholders I am a responsible leader."
Metal Man (GM): He seems to without saying know to make a revoking letter. Creating one pretty much immediately and casually destroying the final acquisition letter on his person.
Vetrek: "When we land I'll send it off and make my withdrawal from consideration permanent, so that they will stop complaining like a bunch of fools. It is inevitable they will have to merge, they cannot compete with the other 4/5th of the planet by themselves, but I wish to rule the planet more than I wish to rule all the corporations on it. That part of it isn't as important anymore. I do not want to see the people of the planet butchered by Thanatos' goons, but I'm afraid if we open fire he will return fire and then everything will become a warzone... And if those ships are on his side then we have a real problem there. Our air defenses in the past were based upon the Time Cops blowing up anyone who dared visit us."
Nonna: "Now, here's something else you should know. The treaty guarantees Onta'vis's safety, protection, and neutrality, and we as well as the Time Cops are obligated to enforce these terms. We'll need majority permission to come down and help. Are you willing to do that?"
Vetrek: "It's up to you to make the Time Cops actually obey the treaty. I have my suspicions they look at you like they do us and think of their higher ability to manipulate space time makes them above any treaty. If it is your people who are coming in to either prevent the fighting or dying on our behalf so that our people do not, then, you can definitely go and do that."
Nonna: "I'll speak to their leader personally."
Vetrek: "It was, after all, what the Time Cops offered us, and what I somewhat expected from you in return for betraying them. And also the sort of protection the planet will need, going forward, although we don't usually have such issues..."
Nonna: "This is a special case, as you're all too aware of now."
Vetrek: "I can announce all the proclamations at once so they don't get a chance to cut me off. Our regulations state I must be on the planet to do it, otherwise that should do it."
Nonna: "We'll get things ready soon."
Vetrek: "We may become under heavy attack from Time Cops, Thanatos, or anyone else as I am most likely now the Most Wanted in the universe, or at least, will be."
Nonna goes back to the bridge.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So... I'm guessing this would be where you tell us what you had in mind, since most of my plans end in explosions."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier idly spins his hand, as he nervously regards the hordes of ships nearby that are ominously aiming at the Wing Fortress but not firing.
Valron: "And I tend to be more of an accessory to plans more than a straight-up planner, myself, so, y'know."
Nonna: "I'm hoping to ask the Time Cops to honour the treaty and temporarily join with us to create an allied force to assist the Onta'vis forces against the invaders."
Louisoix: "I guess that's where the whole 'talking to Autumnus' part comes into play."
Nonna: "After all, if we're both in each other's sights, we can make sure we're not plotting anything against each other."
King Demon: "Does ANYONE think this is going to actually end well?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The Time Cops can see much of everything outside of our control, so, if they wanted to attack us for suggestions of our current plan, they would have... may as well try, though I have my doubts... Well, I don't think it will end perfectly, but I figure we can reduce the loss of life to some token enemy forces instead of millions of people."
Nonna: "My hope is that this will let them forgive the whole Vetrek thing. A chance to save face, if you will. In any case, I hope we can have superior enough forces to discourage Thanatos' troops from doing too much."
Valron: "Hopefully, we'll catch them at a moment where they'll be somewhat reasonable."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I can bring Autumnus up right now. Coincidentally he announced his 'presence' on the comms shortly after you spoke to Vetrek. Creeeeeepy."
Valron: "About what I'd expect from him."
Nonna: "As expected." *He goes to the comms with him.*
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens the comms. An image of Autumnus appears, and you see a strange multi-colored aura around him.
Autumnus: *R* "Oh... the sweet sorrows that bring the sweetest joys. The energy within that brings reality without. Thou art truly a picky canary, thinking me a fool."
Nonna: "So you already know the situation."
Autumnus: *R* "Thou art truly wise to have stolen our poisoned arrow. But ye deal with Gods, not men."
Nonna: "A simple yes or no would suffice."
Autumnus: *R* "Ye do not tell me how to talk to you, nay. Thou art a child MEDDLING in our affairs!"
Louisoix: *'Does he talk like that on purpose?' he would think to himself.*
Valron: "..." *He just gives Xavier a blank look. The kind of look that screams 'Is today going to be one of those days?'*
Autumnus: *R* "How many thousands of millennia have I seen your kind grow and wither before mine eyes? And yet ye thinketh yourself above the cycle!"
Metal Man (GM): He then strangely looks a bit more sober and coughs some multicolored gas.
King Demon waves to Autumnus from the background.
Valron: "...Just had somethin' that disagreed with you, I take it?"
Autumnus: *R* "...Those ships are mine, lass. They do not belong to Thanatos. Thanatos bethinks he can kill ME. I will kill that knave into a billion fragments if ye will allow. Not a single person on the planet shall be harmed, and that bother will die millions of trillions of times, across time... his agony will be beyond mortal ken."
King Demon: "Oh, wait, they're YOURS?" *W to Metal* "Is this conversation being recorded?"
Louisoix: "Well he can throw black holes. Doing that can get to your head."
Autumnus: *R* "I will RIP his body to MILLIONS OF SHREDS across all of TIME ITSELF! Ah... singularities. They be'eth the bringer and taker of worlds. He thinketh himself one of us, too. But in a much baser way than thou."
Nonna: "So, what are your ships doing here? Here to help take down Thanatos? But then they're locking their weapons on us..."
Autumnus: *R* "Vetrek was ours. It meaneth I hear everything you hath sayeth. Oh... he doth not know. But I bound a cling to his very soul. It means nothing to me though, that ye turneth him."
Nonna: "So you're freely admitting he's a puppet."
Autumnus: *R* "Oh, I thought he was a puppet... but he's not. He's self-important and aggrandizing, yes."
Nonna: "In defiance of the very treaty you so desperately wanted to sign back then."
Autumnus: *R* "It turns out ye accidentally prevented me from violating the treaty."
Nonna: "So, what is your plan for Onta'vis?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes, the smash dexes record everything, Demon. Well. Everything relevant to the mission."
King Demon smirks a bit.
Autumnus: *R* "Is not the entire galaxy a chessboard. If it should wish to turn to us without us directly doing it, there is no violation of the treaty. Thus there is nothing to investigate."
Nonna: "...You had armed Time Cops on the planet enforcing your will. I think your brain's a bit fried. You okay?"
Autumnus: *R* "Oh, did I? I am afraid those were... Omnus sycophants. Kill them I must, too. All of them shall die once you give the word. For the greater good of neutrality!"
Valron: "...Hrm. What's the catch?"
Autumnus: *R* "Nothing. Their blood shall rain upon the planet!"
Nonna: "I assume you even know their names, then. Who are these Omnus sycophants?"
Autumnus: *R* "You killed Sloan. You killed Omnus. Their remaining people desire to see ye dead a million times over. Omnus mind controlled countless Time Cops and they were left there, inside the planet, there to enforce his dead hand's will. Oh, but ye see, I wanted to draw them out, to kill them, with Vetrek..."
Nonna: "I believe you."
Autumnus: *R* "It seems we both want them dead... the sticky widget here be'eth..." *He lurches a bit.* "There is so little point to your little game. So tell me this. What is it YOU want with this galaxy? My armed ships lay in wait to enforce the treaty as fast as yours are. My man is just as vigilant in stopping things as you are. He chose to support us; then he chose to support you. As ye can see, he hath nothing other than a spell I put on him. It was so rude of me to not tell you, but it was ye who kidnapped him."
Metal Man (GM): Autumnus gestures and a strange light appears, then disappears, from Vetrek.
Nonna: "Hmm. Well, see, since you haven't answered that same question, I can't really give you mine either. That would be rude."
Autumnus: *R* "There, it is gone, be still your fears."
Nonna: *Turns to the still-open door leading to Vetrek* "You catching all of this?"
Autumnus: *R* "Who are these Omnus Sycophants... their names be Derek Til'vaas for the Omnus one, and John Tread for the Sloan."
Vetrek: "Oh... yes. I... never met him, to be honest. Zalman was the only one who talked to me."
King Demon: "A Time Cop civil war?"
Autumnus: *R* "This is why I have him speak for me. I have... had some certain episodes lately... needed... healing... ...THINGS you... most likely sent my way also attacking me..."
Nonna: "So we've heard. Sadly, we've not done any such thing. Too preoccupied with Onta'vis to really think of annoying you."
Autumnus: *R* "The Silver Men, who seek the Special Device. They came following something Two Lives Tom had. I cannot convince them it is fake, no matter how much I blow them to pieces. The blasted things."
Nonna: "...Never heard of 'em. In any case, let's drop all the BS."
Valron: "Sounds like a real swarm of irritable hornets."
Autumnus: *R* "YOU probably planted it on him... but..." *He coughs again.* "I too must end this twaddle, for I am getting tired."
King Demon: "Silver men? What did they look like?"
Autumnus: *R* "This."
Metal Man (GM): A dead Erastian Central Authority Heavy Metal Android drops in the middle of the room and clanks, out of nowhere.
Nonna: "Are you going to work with us for this one job or not? If not, you will stand aside and recall all of your spies and allow us and the people of Onta'vis to drive away Thanatos."
Metal Man (GM): It looks like... a vaguely robotic version of Xavier, and is vaguely irradiated, but not much, seemingly was scrubbed before being meaninglessly chucked into your room out of nowehre.
King Demon looks at it, reaching for his weapon instinctively, before glancing at Xavier.
Louisoix: *He'd kneel down and take a look.*
Autumnus: "This discussion has caused me to take ill. I am reminded too much that ye art a pick of backstabbing vipers. Go fix your own mess, and then... tell Thanatos it is up to him if he wishes to challenge me. If he is suicidal enough to, I will kill him for you. My ships will withdraw to the border of my territory. Thou art instructed to never cross it. None shall pass, not from within, either."
Metal Man (GM): The previously cloaked ships reveal their Time Cop insignias, then warp backwards to form a line far away, on the edge of this cluster.
Valron: "Noted."
Autumnus: *R* "Consider yeself lucky..." *He coughs haggardly.* "The foe I fight is stronger than me and if I stopped, they would kill thee..."
Nonna: *Sneakily sends a coded signal to the peacekeeping forces to keep careful watch for any movement.*
Louisoix: "I can probably figure a few things out about this thing, if you want me to spend time on it."
Autumnus: *R* "I only do what I do... because... there isn't any purpose... in letting you be destroyed by them... the day ye cross me, that is only my wish..."
Nonna: "We'll hold you to it."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier taps his fingers and stares at Autumnus.
Valron: "...Thanks for the present, by the way." *He glances over at the ECA droid.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So you're not going to invade Erastia, right?"
Autumnus: *R* "The things attacking me might. They seem to believe YOU stole the thing they wanted. But they think I am you. Isn't that odd?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I have no clue why that is either."
Valron: "How bizarre."
Autumnus: *R* "One day we will all know. And on that day it will probably have been your fault. But for now... look ye upon the dead machine, and recall that what befell it, befalls all who cross me. Now, begone, communication device."
King Demon: *W to Gelato* "If these are from Erastia, that means that Metal's people made them."
Metal Man (GM): You see him destroy the device sending the comms with... a small galaxy. That is, on his end. It loudly statics out and vanishes.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, that is... one way to end a communication call..."
Metal Man (GM): The Erastian robot is covered in rust.
Nonna: "...So wasteful. He makes the Erastians look like masters of practicality. No offense, Xavier."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "None taken. If we could make galaxies, we probably would do that too."
Valron: "...That sure was completely necessary."
Metal Man (GM): The Erastian robot looks like it aged a thousand years. And yet, the striping of it suggests it aged unevenly.
Nonna: "So, Vetrek. You overheard everything, right?"
King Demon: "So... something made by your people is attacking him?"
Louisoix: "...don't know if I can gather anything from this, but I'll try."
King Demon: "No wonder he thinks we sent it."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Long story short, uh... there's some need to know things involved but essentially there's a giant island full of killer robot Erastian robots out there."
Valron: "Another rapid aging field. Though, this one seems to have had a more... uneven effect in comparison to what Omnus had."
Louisoix: "Well, when I know its safe, I will."
Vetrek: "Oh, I heard, all right. I am... glad that I chose you and not him."
Valron: *Engage scans on the rusted robot!*
Vetrek: "The man sounded like he didn't have any Xopran in the morning after many years of dementia. If he even was a man. No man I've seen glows rainbow-fumes like that and throws galaxies at people..."
King Demon: "Hey, Metal, what are the odds we can get Omnus' faction and Autumnus to go to war with each other?"
Vetrek: "And... my own people were some sort of spies?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: *Begins chuckling a bit uncontrollably* "Uh... well, funny thing there, Demon... That's... heh heh... kinda what happened..."
Valron: "It'd be more pest control for Autumnus at that rate. If he hasn't exterminated all of them already"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "And then we... uh... killed Omnus..."
Valron: "We sent him hurtling into a star."
Nonna: "I'm sorry it's come to this."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "You just kinda missed it... that's all."
Valron: "I got front-row seats to it."
King Demon: "Yeah, well, never hurts to try to reignite hostilities... if we can."
Vetrek: "I mean... to be honest. I don't 100% buy they were Omnus' men."
King Demon: "If nothing else, it'll get them too busy with each other to get in OUR way!"
Nonna: "Of course they weren't."
Louisoix: "Hmm... is there some sort of bay where I can look at this, instead of working on the floor? Maybe with equipment."
Nonna: "Autumnus' story was all over the place."
Vetrek: "Phew. For a minute there, I thought you believed in that bizarre mess."
Nonna: "First they were his men. Then they were spies. Then they were spies working for a faction that was already destroyed."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Omnus is gone and his faction destroyed, so... we can't really re-ignite the ruins, Demon. I mean, unless the weird, probable lies of Autumnus are true. Autumnus seems to WANT us to go hunting for nothing."
Valron: "Not surprising."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Then again... geez. That's how he tricked the Alsan Questers."
Valron: "We have proven to have the makings of a credible threat, given what we did to Omnus."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "He must have sent them on multiple wild goose chases."
King Demon: "He wants the same thing we do, to get those who can stop him to look somewhere else."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Yes. He wants to outdo us at being us, seemingly. The good news is those ships left."
Vetrek: "Yes. We should begin immediately, that leaves Thanatos."
King Demon: "DO you trust them to STAY gone?"
Nonna: "He didn't even bring up Zalman until Vetrek namedropped him."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "I don't trust any Time Cop ship."
Nonna: "Even though Zalman would be the first name that comes to mind when asked who the supposed spies are. Something has clearly rattled Autumnus' brain."
Valron: "To say the least."
King Demon: "You mean other than being Autumnus?"
Nonna: "He can't even hide behind his usual diplomatic business speak anymore."
Louisoix: "So... no bay area, then?"
Valron: "Though, for someone who's supposedly fallen ill, he's certainly not bothered with wastefully expending his energy."
Louisoix: "Or whatever to put this robot thing? Or do you guys just want to shoot it off into a sun or something."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Oh, the robot thing? It's... well..."
King Demon: "He likes to show off, even if he IS sick. Makes him look less sick than he is. Or he's bluffing about being as sick as he is."
Metal Man (GM): The robot thing can be pulled open easily, but it contains metal dust, specifically rust flakes. And broken pieces of it like it was inside a high-gravity field.
Valron: "Think Panel might help make it a bit less catastrophically broken?"
Nonna: "The peacekeepers are keeping an eye on things."
Metal Man (GM): One part of it appears to have been hit with a miniature sun.
Louisoix: "Oh."
Nonna: "If anything strange happens while we're down there, we'll know."
Valron: "Mind, you I also don't want to restore it to 'KILL ALL WHO DEFY US' mode."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's an idea. Just be very careful, it's in an advanced state of decomposition... and if we bring it all the way back, it'll want to make us be the ones in an advanced state of decomposition."
Louisoix: "Right..."
King Demon: "Can we do it in an airlock, so we can jettison it if it gets out of hand?"
Vetrek: "It seems rather simple to me. I will go and return order... and then we have to deal with Thanatos somehow."
Valron: "Is there any place we can bait him into where we can zero out civilian casualties?"
Vetrek: "I own Colaxus. I can use my rights to clear out an area of it still loyal to me and then have him face me there. ...And then he'll promptly kill me unless we have some other idea."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, go ahead and separate the pieces, Gelato. Not sure whether we have a use for it immediately, but it could be useful in upgrading my armor or making armor in general."
Valron: "And I do have that remote control Heavy Metal, so..."
Louisoix: "I'd like to know what this is in general, and if its useful. If its somehow fixable lets do that to an extent. I imagine while doing so we'll figure out its components so we know what to avoid."
King Demon: "Memory dump could give us an idea who sent it and why. If you can get the CPU operational again."
Metal Man (GM): The head, which contains most of the CPU units, can be separated, and then many Panels cast on it, if wished.
Gelato: *He tugs that head off, before beginning the Panel chaincasting.*
King Demon: "I'm not much of a mage... What can I do? Oh, right, go provoke Thanatos again."
Louisoix: "Yeah, go and punch him a few times."
King Demon: "HEY!"
Louisoix: "What?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, presumably a group of you will go with Vetrek to deal with Thanatos. Or at least, guard Vetrek. I'm not 100% certain it'd be smart to fight Thanatos."
Valron goes to work on detaching the limbs from the ECA droid's body.
Metal Man (GM): The limbs come off. Sometimes, pieces of them turn to ancient rust and dust.
King Demon: "I never said FIGHT him, just provoke him. Get his attention, get him to follow us... hopefully off world somewhere."
Louisoix: "Well, we know by now its easy to provoke him anyway. Why not make him fight Omnus, and provoke his ego by saying he can't even beat a lackey of his."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Summoning Omnus is pretty dangerous."
Louisoix: "Then nevermind."
Nonna: "Thanatos is... not one to be taken lightly."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "As much as I was about to say 'impossible!' but I realized, no, Nonna does have Omnus."
King Demon: *M* "Depends on where we're summoning Omnus to."
Valron: "If necessary, I can bring the full force of my ship down on him. Though, I presume we're not actually going to fight him, as much as I'd like to swat down another arrogant sort with my lightning cannons again. That, and... even if the matter of casualties are put aside, there's... well. Collateral damage to be considered."
Nonna: "He chucked a Nullus-like black hole at me without a second thought. Getting him off the planet should be our priority."
Louisoix separates the body parts of the robot, fixing some of the more mundane pieces first.
King Demon: "Let's see if we can get Thanatos to go after Autumnus?"
Nonna: "If we can do that and launch him past the Time Cop border..."
Louisoix: "Well if he wants to take out Autumnus, why not tell him of the ships? Then he'll just go to them himself." *Just interjects ideas while he fiddles with the robot.*
King Demon: "Eh... we could NOT tell him about the ships and let him get destroyed by them..."
Metal Man (GM): The leg is fixed rather easily, it's one of the less damaged parts. It's inert when fixed, since it's separate from the body. It just sits there, unpowered.
King Demon: "Though, it may weaken Autumnus more if we DID tell him..."
Nonna goes back to talk to the Zinyo person.
Gelato: *He's still working on the head.*
Metal Man (GM): The head, once energized, is activated. It cannot control anything, but it begins talking incessantly.
Valron goes to work on one of the arms while Gelato and Lou are working on other parts.
ECA Drone: "ENEMIES OF THE ERASTIAN CENTRAL AUTHORITY DETECTED. TERMINATE WITH MAXIMUM PREJUDICE. ULTIMATE EYELASERS ENGAGING."
Metal Man (GM): It then powers up the eyelasers, and shuts down because it doesn't have a power source.
King Demon: "Enemies of who?"
Valron: "The old regime that used to rule Erastia."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It turns out when everybody was killed on Erastia by, I think it was Autumnus or 'Fringe', they had that whole... Dead Hand Robot Army to go avenge their death."
Louisoix: "Well, at least we got each of the subsections working. I'll see if we can use any of it." *He'd try to take apart the head piece to see how the eyes worked, and hopefully how much power was required to guess how powerful they were if deployed.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Again, need to know stuff, but basically we sent them on a wild goose chase. So that they wouldn't, like, go and attack us for living there. Which is what they would do, if we let them."
King Demon: "Think we can do an infodump from the CPU?"
Valron: "Because, y'know. Fuck the idea of anyone on Erastia living in relative peace." *Shakes his head* "Some people, I swear. In any case, that'd probably be a good start."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Not to be too rude but, we may have to pause messing with the robot for after we deal with Thanatos. It seems... likely to take a while."
Metal Man (GM): However, you can yank out the CPU bits, Gelato. So as to keep them for safe keeping and/or transport them to the labs for further study.
Valron: "Fair."
King Demon: "Let's do it then... and yeah, let's go deal with an angry, black hole generating dragon."
Metal Man (GM): *Cue X-Com: Enemy Unknown style lab scenes for that* XP
Louisoix: "Sure, sure." *With that he'd sit back up.*
Gelato: *He pulls the CPU core and takes that away for connection to a standalone machine. Standalone. He can't stress that enough.*
Nonna: "Before we go, Illian, and Borne: Could you inspect Vetrek and us for anything Autumnus might have tried to sneak in?"
Metal Man (GM): Illian takes the CPU and looks at it, and points to a properly isolated lab machine, and hands the CPU to Gelato so he can peek at it. Then he looks at Vetrek. He stares... Then he winces a bit.
Illian MacGregor: "I'm amazed he didn't just push his remote kill switch on Vetrek. He had one until recently. Coulda made him explode so violently it'd wreck the Bridge too."
Louisoix: "Huh."
Illian MacGregor: "Unnatural unholy stuff on him, or at least was."
Valron: "...Huh. Well, then."
Illian MacGregor: "It feels like he just... yanked it out of the socket, leaving nothing behind."
Gelato: *He loads that CPU core up.*
Illian MacGregor: "Almost unfortunate. I could have studied it to make my ow--I mean figured out his location."
Metal Man (GM): Borne also glances at Vetrek.
Commander Borne: "The only technological issue with Vetrek is that his consumer-grade technology frankly sucks. I always considered Onta'vis to have bad technology."
Vetrek: "Hey, you try manufacturing millions of copies at a cheaper rate than anyone else!"
Commander Borne: "I'd rather self-dismantle first."
King Demon: "That's what my dad does for a living."
Vetrek: "Sounds like I could have lucrative business with your father then, especially if he can manufacture things at margins I can't."
Metal Man (GM): The murderbot AI shows up for Gelato to look at.
King Demon: "Uh... you probably don't want to know what the price of doing business with him is."
Metal Man (GM): It has fractured video of its last encounter, also pages and pages of archived text that says 'DESTROY THE INTERLOPER', 'FOR THE ECA!' and "DEATH TO DRESS-WEARING ROBED SAVAGES'"
Vetrek: "Well you said it was pretty cheap, but, if you say so."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Vetrek made a deal with... Autumnus... indirectly, so... yeah... don't tempt him. He clearly wishes to get the best deal, even if it's highly dangerous."
Vetrek: "Well I didn't know it involved a strange, senile old man who burped rainbows. If I knew that I think I would have found somebody else."
Gelato: *He starts extracting those video files.*
King Demon: "Well, it's cheap for my father, not so much for those who he employs."
Louisoix: "Hm, not too interesting." *He'd respond to the video in question.* "I'm sure there's something more valuable in the tech, maybe. Then again, I think just about every attempt I've made to make sense of you people you've tripped me, so maybe the ship already has super huge eyebeams of death."
Metal Man (GM): Gelato could see that the final encounter of the robot was against Autumnus. He was fighting Autumnus with a radioactive nuke beam. It shows Autumnus wincing as the robot detonates a tactical nuke into his face. Then the robot's vision abruptly ends as time itself is shredded asunder and the hardware can no longer record anything.
King Demon: "No, Louis, that'd be the Death Egg, and I think we destroyed it... unless it got rebuilt again."
Louisoix: "Well that's more interesting."
Metal Man (GM): The timestamp shows it was frozen in time for several thousand years before abruptly being sent to the beginning of time, exploded, and returning back in a million pieces.
Louisoix: "That would do it."
Metal Man (GM): The tech on the other hand, is basically a bunch of operating system instructions to activate various highly radioactive weapons.
Louisoix: "Still, he's able to send someone that far back, eh?"
Valron: "Yep. Definitely does not care about whether or not something is overkill."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We are in position to drop Vetrek at the point. Who should go and safeguard him? First he's going to be at the point to coordinate the planet's defenses, which is near where we originally were."
Kumiko: "Hm..."
Louisoix: "Don't know how good I would be at that, but if you're short on men I'll go."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Next he'll be in... Colaxus territory, to lure Thanatos out... that's where we have to get creative and figure out where to send Thanatos."
King Demon: "Oh, why not? I haven't had a fight in about five minutes."
Valron: "I could also be on guard, but I was more planning on getting the drop on him once we lured him out into Colaxus territory, myself."
King Demon: "Though, my presence may get his attention anyway, since I WAS one of those who attacked him earlier."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It's suspected when we go in the first location, there will be would-be goons attacking us or otherwise Colaxus soldiers."
Valron: "That could serve our advantage, Demon. Help make the lure more tempting."
Nonna: "I might as well finish the job."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The second location... is less likely to make sense to fight, more to lure. It would probably work well, yes, to do that."
Nonna: "We should make sure we have a backup plan too, in case things go south. He can seemingly fly, too."
Kumiko: "Can I be of assistance...?"
Valron: "Hrm. I'm just wondering where I'd best be able to help, honestly."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Backup plans. Hmmm... we attack him with the Wing Fortress and use the super-shield to contain him?"
Valron: "While I do have something in mind, and the fact that he can apparently fly could probably be used to our advantage... Hrm."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The radiation would be intense, and possibly dangerous."
Metal Man (GM): Illian sighs, casually reaching at his waist, and turning on Vendetta. He demonstrates it slashing a hole through the air itself, then puts it back.
Nonna: "As a last resort, maybe, Illian."
Illian MacGregor: "If we absolutely must, I can provide the remaining backstop. The powers of this blade are seriously cursed. But it could kill a black hole. It could take on whatever he throws at us."
Valron: "...We really need to figure out a way to make a version of that that isn't massively cursed at some point."
Illian MacGregor: "I've been trying to understand its construction, but even just knowing that is a memetic hazard."
Nonna: "What do you think, Marley?"
Metal Man (GM): Marley puts a finger to his chin.
Marley: "Well, back when we had the evil of Jack, we had Borne reverse engineer his own weapons and kill him with them. I don't suppose he could do that again with this guy too?"
Commander Borne: "I have been working on another Anti-Reality Gun and a gravity well... which should I try to have ready to use in case we need it?"
Valron: "I could help hash something out as well, if need be. While it doesn't come up as much, I do also have the ability to reverse engineer such rubbish..."
King Demon: "This guy can create black holes... will gravity wells even do anything in that scenario?"
Nonna: "Let's avoid using something that could destroy the planet itself, until we've taken him off of it."
Commander Borne: "The Anti-Reality Gun is... too powerful. I will ready the Gravity Well."
King Demon: "We're trying to get him off the world, not kill him. Problem is, there's a strong likelihood he won't leave willingly."
Valron: "So, should I ram him with my ship, or are we gonna do the whole thing where we put the Wing Fortress' shields to offensive use?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "These ideas are all very interesting... ...anyways, we're in the drop zone now, so, we may have to think on our feet. Well, you will. I need to man the ship."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier flips a switch and the landing ramp goes down.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The coast is clear... for now."
Metal Man (GM): Vetrek would be freed from his room... and wait for the rest to escort him down to the surface.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "We have a very powerful field that could contain Thanatos. But it also is the only thing protecting this ship. It's... a magical field, too, so... it even meshes well with... dragons casting spells."
Nonna: "Thanatos can use Disjunction."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Well, if it slows him down... Nonna can encase enemies in ice. So... then Thanatos can dispel it. Geez. There isn't much time but maybe..."
Metal Man (GM): Xavier opens a door. It leads to a room with a very large sphere. The sphere is like a giant metallic pearl. It has ancient runic encarvings on it, and also a tacky nameplate that's melted that says "OPER Y F HARLES GELL A" It resonates with a strange magical energy.
Xavier Ridgecrest: "The energy from this ought to be able to lend a hand."
Valron: "Now there's an interesting idea."
Nonna: "Excellent."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "So that's a vote of confidence in favor of using it, then? ...Okay." *He pushes a button, bestowing its energies upon Demon and Nonna, who are tasked with dealing with Thanatos.*
King Demon: "We ready, then?"
Gelato: *Nod nod.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Standing by. ...This first area will have a bunch of... annoying goons in it, the next one will have Thanatos. If you need more shield energy, you can come back here... if you can even get back here while fighting him."
Vetrek: "Well, let's get going. I need to rally everyone to take shelter and not be destroyed by... whatever madness is going on while I was away."
Commander Borne: "I'm going to coordinate our fleets in case Autumnus goes back on his word or other fleets appear."
Illian MacGregor: "I'll hang back here, since as I noted, my powers come with them danger of cursed energies."
Valron: "Should I provide backup for the Wing Fortress, Xavier?"
Xavier Ridgecrest: "It couldn't hurt."
Louisoix: "I'll hang back as well."
Valron: "You could provide support from the Wing Fortress, Lou. Provided you have some useful magic to feed through the amplifiers..."
Louisoix: "I'm sure I can whip something up."
Nonna: "I have a feeling I'll be best suited in the luring party. Thanatos knows my face and has a score to settle."
Vetrek: "Well then, those of you escorting me... let's go on down to see what's going on. I guess if you're going to split up, the other group can go to Thanatos immediately. ...You know, I would almost be curious enough to ask for a weapon. It is... sort of odd for me to be unarmed."
Nonna: "Real quick, let's go over who is where."
Vetrek: "But... I can understand if you don't want me to have one."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Me, Borne, and Illian will hold down the fort here at the ship."
Nonna: "You're a leader, Vetrek. The pen is mightier than the sword."
King Demon: "I'm gonna have some fun on the surface."
Valron: "Failing that, it may be wise to give him a sidearm so that he can hang back behind cover and provide some support."
King Demon: *He actually seems quite happy a bout that.*
Vetrek: "It's just... I heard of this Anthon guy... he's a leader too... and he... blows people to bits, I heard. Evil people."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "He didn't blow anyone up on his home world like that, that I know of."
Vetrek: "Oh."
Valron: "Anthon is... a rather special case, regardless."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Also you have to know how to fight."
King Demon: "Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah..."
Valron: "There is that."
Vetrek: "It's true, I don't really have any fighting skills."
Nonna: "Grandpa's always defied expectations."
Kumiko: "...that is something I can handle."
Vetrek: "I was hoping I could just... pay people off."
Valron: "Maybe take up some lessons in self-defense after this whole mess has blown over."
Kumiko: "However, I have no idea what to expect in this case."
Nonna: "I'll help draw Thanatos in."
King Demon: "Makes it easy to defy expectations when you don't have any."
Kumiko: "...I suppose you're right."
Louisoix: "I'll see what I can do here. I'm more suited for this kind of work anyway."
Xavier Ridgecrest: "Presumably the best time is sometime around now. We have Nonna and the others in Nonna's group distract Thanatos in the leadup before the others go to seal them."
Nonna: "Yeah. I won't let him get away this time."
King Demon: "Oh good, another round with Mr. Black Hole."
Nonna: "At least there won't be innocents around this time. We won't have to hold back."
Metal Man (GM): So then, let's see. Valron is backing up the ship. Demon and Nonna are going out to deal with Thanatos. Kumiko, Gelato and Vetrek are going to do the bodyguard duty, with presumably the Wing Fortress and Valron holding up their position as well. Got everything right there or did I miss something? *Has to get the SSQ calculus just right* Also the more I run this the more it accidentally resembles X-Com: Enemy Unknown. Which is... interesting, to say the least.
King Demon: "Good." *Smirks.*
Xavier Ridgecrest: "First off, let's get Vetrek in position."
Metal Man (GM): He'd gesture to the ramp. Gelato, Vetrek, Kumiko, can go forward to the ground. Valron can presumably go get in his ship now. Thus setting up that group.
Gelato: *He bounds forwards!*
Kumiko: *Follows.*
Valron makes his way towards his ship, wasting little time in getting himself set up.
Metal Man (GM): Vetrek walks down there, gritting his teeth as he would begin the various message-sending that he needs to do. It's in an industrial area and it's relatively abandoned over there. We'll start with this side first, if only because it's not gonna be super long. If we run out of time for the other group, we'll pause and pick it up later, but hopefully it won't get too late... Presumably Valron has the Ship Known As Fy'aar with the lightning cannons in there, as the group with Vetrek is standing there while Vetrek sends the orders to his troops. The first issue begins when he says he's not with the Time Cops anymore. Zalman casually shows up, facing Kumiko and Gelato, and observing the Fy'aar nearby. AFAIK they were gonna go deal with Mr. Black Hole, Thanatos. The larger group is doing that due to the greater threat he faces.
Zalman: "Ah... Vetrek. Why would you change sides? We had it all worked out."
Metal Man (GM): Oh, and Louisoix is... hanging back, presumably he is observing this from the Wing Fortress.
Vetrek: "I didn't know you served a senile madman, Zalman. How could you not tell me?"
Zalman: "Autumnus? I haven't seen him in a while."
Vetrek: "He came there, telling the Questers of crazed nonsense. It seems he considers us all pawns, you included."
Zalman: "The Time Cops are a many-faceted organization. He isn't one you should talk to. But I can assure you, there is much that can be done to overcome whatever confusion you witnessed."
Vetrek: "Nothing that can match what I'm going to do. This will be an independent planet, without Quester or Time Cop interference."
Zalman: "Who put you up to this? These aren't your own words."
Vetrek: "Nobody did that."
Zalman: "The Questers had to have... I told them not to interfere... that would be strictly against the regulations if they did. I ought to..."
Metal Man (GM): Autumnus himself appears all of a sudden, and casually stands in Zalman's way.
Autumnus: "Enough! I made the deal, get away from Vetrek. This is all a strictly NEUTRAL affair!"
Zalman: "Why would you do this? It's madness! You were going to--"
Autumnus: "I have... had new perspectives recently... Thou wilt know soon enough. Come with me to see... do not waste your time. This man is a dust particle."
Zalman: "...I have no choice, but... I will remember this."
Metal Man (GM): He makes the 'two fingers to the eyes threat gesture' at Vetrek, then Autumnus warps out with Zalman.
Kumiko: "That was close..."
Metal Man (GM): Another man shows up, looking disgruntled, but for a different reason. It is a man wearing mismatched yellow and green plaid shirts, and jeans combined with metal armor pieces, and a weird monocle made out of a railroad tie. He looks rather bedraggled and exasperated. Along with him is a bunch of those guards from a while back that were guarding Vetrek.
John Tread: "I am John Tread. You are forces of the people who killed Sloan. Since you recently laid off your old security, I figured I'd use my pension to hire them to kill you. Then I can become the head of 4/5th of this planet and revenge Sloan. Only then will I avenge the time my parents were killed by a freak bowling ball plant explosion. Only then will I prove myself, last of the Placerville Gardening Club, the ultimate planter!"
Time Cop Guard: "Shut up. Just shut up already. I'm paid to kill, not hear you talk. In fact I recall the deal being you'd stop rambling insanely."
Kumiko: *She's not going to waste a word on these guys yet, instead she'll give an unamused look.*
John Tread: "There is no crying in contract negotiations! ...And by that I mean, I will be revenging presently."
Metal Man (GM): He takes out his gun. It is an umbrella with a chainsaw attached to it.
John Tread: "All my buddies died against you... and now with my ill-gotten security guards, you're gonna die!"
Kumiko: "I've had more amusing salads in shoddy Italian restaurants. Your word salad bores me..."
Time Cop Guard: "If you kill him fast enough, we'll offer to work for you again at half price!"
John Tread: "No besmirching me awesome chainsaw umbrella!"
Vetrek: "...So... do you want to capture these guys, or blow them to bits?"
Kumiko: "...hell if I were gutsy I could probably take you on with ketchup and mustard mechguns. That aside... Think I've had enough..."
Vetrek: "I think a mental hospital escaped and armed its patients against me, based on how that guy behaves..."
Metal Man (GM): Hmmmm... I'm gonna want to pause here, since if I'm that tired, it probably won't bode well to go full on into combat. Instead I'm gonna try to do the combat during the week and same with the other one depending on how things go. I can probably do the other side first on Monday and Tuesday, then. PAUSE.
