Super Smash Quest² - Story - Chapter 1: Crashed into the Ground
Date: July 22nd, 2008.
Metal Man (GM): We return to where things left off... only things have changed. There it was, Questers facing a book, Kuja handing a pen over, and Metal Man standing in the background. However, the Questers have already re-entered the book. The world inside the book is disconnected to the previous entirely; it is an entirely new world. Indeed, we find the people who entered it and others like them... falling in from the sky.
Deloth: "Well, that was a weird tri--SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!" *WHUMP.*
Lance: "Well, This is interesting, one second I am busy walking though the portal, the next I am falling from the sky. Oh, yeah, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."
Digifanatic: "Oh, not this again!"
Trigger: "Hmmm?" *looks down.* "Oh... WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers are high up in the air long enough to notice the very large world below them; it is green in some spots, brown in others... there are oceans... it is clearly alien.
Aribar freefalls with the others. The half-elf is a bit shocked by this, but tries to remain calm as the descend to the world below them.*
Digifanatic: "Does anybody have a parachute?!"
Dragoshi: "...Hey, wait. weren't we on... Ah, screw it." *Just blinks as he goes freefallin', a little weirded out by this.*
Metal Man (GM): But unfortunately for the Questers there is not enough time to memorize this image; for without a moment to spare whatever sent them here drops them into a green field of some sort, at a speed fast enough to half-bury most of them!
Lance: "I feel... non-splatted?"
Dragoshi: "...No, not real-" *WHAM!*
Trigger: *thud.* "Oww, my every bone..."
Deloth crash-lands, bounces a few times, and finally falls face-first into the dirt. Smooth landing, all things considered.
Aribar quickly attempts to use his connection with wind-based magic to lower his speed and soften his fall, but still lands rather hard on the ground.*
Digifanatic: *ALSO WHUMP!* "I mimn't mink I'd mave emuff time to oose it." *muffled in the dirt, of course... apparently he did not have enough time to land face-up.*
Trigger: *looks around.* "Everyone remotely alive?!"
Lance: "Sigh, I think I am stuck." *He starts digging around himself to loosen the dirt.* "Note to self, wash hands soon."
Metal Man (GM): The air is certainly clearer here than usual; the Questers see a number of things from their vantage point, which is... the top of a hill, naturally. There are apparently palm trees in this area, as well as rivers and some bridges. To the East is a giant, unbelievably huge city. To the North is a nearly impenetrable forest;
Deloth: *dizzily.* "Fur... fur all around... look, mommy, it's floating on the wind..."
Metal Man (GM): To the South it looks almost desert-like, and to the West is ocean. There's some far away islands in that direction.
Trigger: *gets up and smacks some sense into Deloth.* "Feeling better?"
Digifanatic: *tries to get out.*
Metal Man (GM): There are well-used trails heading towards the city, and... strangely... towards the southern desert. It's easy to get out here; the soil is moist and soft.
Digifanatic: *gets his way out of the ground.* "Well... here we are. Wherever this is."
Dragoshi: *Groans a bit as he gets up.* "Freaking ow." *Starts stretching a bit.*
Deloth: "...Yes. Thank you, I needed that, now put me down, please."
Lance: "So Hi." *pulls himself out of the ground.* "My name is Lance."
Trigger: *puts down Deloth.* "Sorry..."
Metal Man (GM): The sun is overhead; it is a rather bright globe in this part of the world. I wouldn't stare at it, of course.
Digifanatic: .oO(Lan--wait a minute, that was weird.)
Metal Man (GM): The Questers have their run of the landscape; it is quite large and open.
Digifanatic: .oO(I SWORE that was Chancé that walked into that book.) "Uh... Lance? I don't know about you, but when you went into that portal your name was Chancé."
Lance: "Yes, yes I know, I had a bit of fun writing a few things for myself."
Deloth: "Waaait... that is fur on the wind. Wha--"
Lance: "Tomato Sauce makes an excellent ink."
Deloth: "..." *slowly looks down at himself, then...* "Oh, HELL no."
Digifanatic: "And a good blood substitute in movies."
Dragoshi: "...Tomato sauce ink? Huh."
Lance: "It was all I had on hand."
Digifanatic: *looks over.* "Deloth?! Did you write something odd for yourself as well?"
Aribar looks about the immediate area... He isn't really sure what to say about the recent events. Meeting Kuja once more... Heading into a book... Falling towards an unknown world..
Deloth is now not so much "Half-dragon" as "Mixed-up bag of spare parts." Red fur instead of scales, a much flatter, more normal face, beige fuzz on his chest and stomach, and to complete the insanity, also-beige, FEATHERED wings.
Lance: "Well, I can happily say I am not to blame for this." *He takes off his pink sunglasses, rubs them and puts them back on.* "Yeah, You kinda look like a furry angel."
Deloth: "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED IN THAT BOOK?!"
Trigger: *chuckles at Lance's remark.* "Huh?"
Aribar looks to Del and raises an eyebrow at the change.* "...I would imagine moving your look a little away from Hell."
Deloth: *eye twitch.* "But... but... but... what HAPPENED?!"
Digifanatic: "Allow me to repeat: did you write that in?"
Dragoshi: *Stops stretchin'.* "I don't know."
Lance: "Well, let's see. You look vaguely like an angel, so It does not look like it could not be a typo. Maybe the ink ran over your profile? In any case, where should we head?"
Metal Man (GM): The Questers can vaguely tell the city is rather busy from here; there's a lot of honking and car noises from that direction. To the North it sounds mostly like a jungle, and to the East... ocean... and so on.
Deloth: "This is so wrong! I shouldn't be fuzzy! Fuzzy isn't my style!"
Lance: "When we have things sorted out anyway."
Trigger: "Towards the city maybe, find out what this place is."
Lance: "But it looks good on you Deloth, sorta."
Digifanatic: "City... better chance we can find someone who knows something."
Metal Man (GM): There is a direct dirt road to the city. It looks like the occasional car even drives on it. It's a sort of fine-grained road.
Aribar inspects himself... He's still wearing his royal blue and yellow trimmed clothing and mantle. The half-elf still has his slightly unruly sandy brown hair and deep blue eyes. And, of course, he still only has his left arm. The only noticeable change to the elf is that instead of Moonlight, his short sword, Aribar now has a thin longsword hanging from a scabbard at his hip.*
Lance: "Hmm, your arm never grew back."
Aribar: "I think that having two arms would be... Just a little too awkward after all this time."
Trigger: "...Don't like the whole symmetry thing?"
Digifanatic is also practically the same visually: the mid-20s guy with the amiable yet diligent personality... blondish-brown neck-level hair, Hawaiian shirt. You get the point.
Deloth: "...Oh, sure, YOU all stayed the same!"
Trigger is in casual clothes. Mainly a dark blue t-shirt, jeans, and boots. Although he now has a sword straped to his back now.
Digifanatic: "I didn't feel like I needed a change."
Lance: "There, there, I'm sure you can learn to feather, I mean, better understand your new fur... from. So, to the city?"
Aribar: "It'd probably throw off my balance and such..." *The mage shrugs and looks towards the city.*
Deloth: "Uh... wouldn't we be a little conspicuous?"
Digifanatic: "Except the whole musician schtick. That's hanging out in my malletspace in case I ever feel like needing something in my spare time. Nah... if this is anything like our last planet, we're okay. Besides, how else are we supposed to figure out where we took ourselves?"
Aribar: "If it is anything like what we left behind, we'll be attacked the moment we enter the city... But it is either head to the city or wander around aimlessly elsewhere."
Digifanatic: "Really. What else are vagabond fighters supposed to do on a new planet?"
Lance starts walking towards the city.
Deloth: "Good point... fine, let's go."
Deloth starts heading towards the city. "I don't think I even have my fire attacks anymore..."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers begin walking there...
Dragoshi: *Decides to mosey on along and follow the others. Whee.*
Metal Man (GM): The terrain is very smooth. The Questers see the occasional pile of robot bits on the side of the path. Nothing dangerous here, however. Something destroyed whatever made the robot pieces.
Digifanatic: "Maybe one of those cars will come by--someone in there might help us."
Dragoshi: "Maybe. Maybe not."
Lance: "Depends where this world is on the sliding scale."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers won't need their help; this area is very strange, as they can walk across the area very quickly. They finally reach the city's edge, as nothing has appeared to get in their way. The Questers see the start of a very large street. And a generic green sign with white text that denotes the place as 'Central City' One can take either side of the street; left or right. There are many tall buildings and people here. They look generic and American-like. Many of them stare at the Questers.
Lance flips a coin. "Hmm, where should we go in the city?"
Aribar attempts to eavesdrop into the nearby conversation... he checks if these people are speaking 'English'?
Metal Man (GM): They speak English, yes.
Deloth: *muttering quickly.* "Okay, we're here, now where the hell do we go?"
Metal Man (GM): The Questers hear some people for a moment. From the gist of their conversation, they're freaked out by the Questers standing around on the edge of their city. They are seen walking towards a large building with 'Police' on it, on the left side of the street.
Deloth: "...Aw, shit. Go, go, go, go, go."
Digifanatic: *muttering.* "Okay, this is not cool."
Deloth glances around for an escape route. Alleyways, ladders, anything.
Trigger: "Great, we're here for a couple seconds and now we're gonna be arrested..."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers sort of on the edge of the city. They would have no real problem leaving the city. They would also be able to walk into the city, but it looks unfamiliar to them. There are many stores though.
Aribar lowly tells the others, "It would be better to show ourselves to the authority now instead of waiting for them to catch up with us. Besides, they would know where we are."
Dragoshi: *Kinda sorta straightening out his top hat. Nothin' of interest there, nope.* "Pretty much."
Digifanatic: *quietly.* "You know, that's actually the safest idea."
Lance: "To the police station!"
Deloth facepalms as he walks in that direction.
Lance starts walking there.
Trigger: *starts walking towards the police station.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers pass some other stores on their way.
Trigger: *takes a glance at one of the passing stores.*
Aribar follows the others, attempting to nod or smile at staring people in attempt to disarm his... Rather odd appearance. A one armed person armed with a sword isn't the most comforting sight..
Metal Man (GM): A store filled with random objects called 'Al's Dry Goods', an Arcade... and then, finally, an alley and the police station.
Dragoshi: *Just follows behind the others.*
Metal Man (GM): The two people are still inside, talking with an incredulous-looking police officer.
Digifanatic also notes the stores but is mostly interested in simply heading to the police office.
Digifanatic: *walks in.*
Deloth continues right on in. Might as well take the bull by the horns and suplex it.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers walk in. They hear the end of their conversation.
Aribar enters with the others.
Policeman: "I don't see what you mea--"
Trigger: *walks in.*
Man: "Strange people with weapons! See!"
Metal Man (GM): He looks and sees the Questers. He reaches for his gun... He fumbles it onto the floor.
Lance: "Good Morning my good fellow."
Lance: "It seems like you dropped something there."
Policeman: Who are you people?
Trigger: *whispers to Digi.* "What a klutz."
Digifanatic: *calmly holds his ground.* "I am sorry, but we are unfamiliar with this area."
Deloth holds his hands up in the air. "We're not gonna hurt anybody, okay? See? Nothing in my hands."
Lance: "We got a bit lost, I blame the travel agent."
Policeman: "I would believe you, except... you look like a space alien."
Digifanatic: "We're not from around here."
Dragoshi: *Nods, and leans against the wall.* "That we aren't."
Policeman: "Do you come in peace, or will I have to call the big boys next door? I haven't met aliens before, you see..."
Aribar starts to say that they are the Questers, but then realizes... Are they still Questers? Would the people here even know them? Hrm..*
Trigger: "We just dropped in, needed some help getting around..."
Aribar: "We come in peace."
Metal Man (GM): The man has a twisty mustache and a blue police uniform. He's about 35.
Lance: "Aliens? No, these are costumes."
Policeman: "All right... just what are you doing so heavily armed? The last time we had people armed like you, it was war! And that was a very bad time..."
Trigger: "...When was that?"
Digifanatic: *calmly explains the situation.* "Okay, can you understand stories about other planets and strange portals linking these planets?"
Policeman: "...I've heard of it in science fiction once or twice."
Deloth: *still holding his hands up.* "Our old job required these kinds of weapons, sir."
Policeman: "Old job? For who?"
Digifanatic: "Alright... yes, what he says is true."
Policeman: "Who's arming random people wearing costumes???"
Aribar: "We are... Basically a police force from another world."
Digifanatic: "Yeah. And, well, we basically found out from our boss that we had nothing left to do in that world."
Trigger: "Del, put your hands down..."
Policeman: "Well, you're... you're certainly out of jurisdiction... I mean... your weapons are just not allowed in a city such as this."
Digifanatic: "Hmm... but what if we work for you?"
Deloth: "I figured it would be less threatening..." *lowers his hands slowly.*
Policeman: "But... I'm just a police officer. And there's... several of you. Even if you cooperated, I can't decide how to deal with immigrants from a far away place... especially ones with a bizarre culture. You just wait a moment."
Aribar: "We just entered this world... Well, not long ago. We don't even know the name of this city, let alone its laws. While ignorance does not excuse us, we didn't really have a way of knowing."
Lance: "Anyway guys, there seems to be nothing here anyway, why don't we leave the city?"
Man: "But they're maniacs! They're the men from--"
Policeman: "Silence! Get out of here! ..."
Dragoshi: "...Men from where?"
Metal Man (GM): The man walks out.
Man: "The men from the Egg Man. Don't you know?"
Deloth: "...Enlighten us."
Digifanatic: "Tell us about this."
Dragoshi: "...Not particularly, no. Though, do tell."
Policeman: *On the phone.* "Yes, GUN. Yes, important. Yes. Strange people are here. No, they're not cultists. Yes. Please come... ok."
Digifanatic: "We're not trying to be maniacs. Look... we've just come into this planet hoping to continue our last job. We're just at square one."
Man: "The Egg Man tried to take over the world a while ago. He stopped at nothing to do it; and in the process he destroyed a lot of our towns."
Digifanatic: "Was his name Ivo Robotnik?"
Man: "Strange looking people like you resemble his robots and men, for sure... but clearly you aren't. The man was too secretive for somebody like me to know."
Digifanatic: "Oh... lemme think here."
Lance: "... Who is GUN anyway?"
Metal Man (GM): Two officers in black regalia thrust open the doors.
Aribar: "In the past we have fought with a person who was rather obsessive with... Eggs and robots."
Digifanatic: "Bald? Weird pair of goggles on his forehead? Bushy... red..."
Metal Man (GM): One is clearly human... the other looks to be a green hedgehog.
Deloth: "Er... hiya."
Human: "We're GUN!"
Aribar turns about and looks at the door. He hand instinctively goes to the hilt of his sword, but Aribar quickly pulls it away to prevent him from looking threatening.*
Hedgehog: "And all of you who aren't in the service... get out of here. This is confidential."
Lance: "Ironic timing. Who is the green Sonic recolor?"
Dragoshi: "..." *Just glances at the two, and continues staying silent/listening.*
Man: "Wow, it's been a while since I've seen GUN soldiers..."
Metal Man (GM): The Man walks out, followed by the police officer.
Hedgehog: "Hmph! Like Sonic has been doing much. I'll be asking you to keep the wisecracks down, or it'll be YOU hanging over that door!"
Dragoshi: *Sighs as Lance says that.* "...Don't mind him. He's odd like that." *Casually pushes himself offa the wall, then leaves.*
Metal Man (GM): The human soldier locks the door, blocking Dragoshi's attempt to leave.
Lance: "I did not mean it like that, sorry."
Soldier: "Not you. I meant those other people."
Soldier: "Now... all of you... strange people..."
Digifanatic: .oO(Well, if the green guy knows Sonic, this planet cannot be too foreign.)
Dragoshi: *Goes back to his wall and leans against it, listening.*
Soldier: "We've never really encountered aliens before, so I figure I'll have to wing it. First thing. Why are you here?"
Lance: "We are not... never mind. -sigh- We got sucked into a book portal."
Metal Man (GM): The Hedgehog soldier leans against the wall, looking annoyed... annoyed at everything.
Digifanatic: .oO(You don't say BOOK!)
Deloth: "We finished our job on the last place we were in. Then we came here."
Digifanatic: .oO(Just PORTAL!)
Aribar: "Aye. We don't... Really have that much of a reason for being here."
Soldier: "Ha ha ha. Nice story. So you're sticking to that, are you?"
Lance: "Would you make up a lie like that?"
Soldier: "Okay then. Why do you need all those weapons?"
Digifanatic: "Okay. I'm going to explain this calmly. I know it's going to sound a bit odd--but take my word. My friend just jumped the gun."
Trigger: "'Cause we were in a epic struggle for life and death before getting dropped into this... place."
Digifanatic: "Trigger, please..."
Hedgehog: "Pft. They probably are Robotnik agents in disguise. Why else would they show no fear of GUN soldiers?"
Aribar: "We are enemies of Robotnik... We've fought against him numerous times in the past."
Digifanatic: "I'm trying to explain this in a way so they don't freak out."
Metal Man (GM): The Human Soldier calmly sticks his gun in Trigger's face.
Trigger: "...I don't like this place anymore..."
Soldier: "Please refrain from making loud noises. We've had bad experiences with people using them to trigger bombs."
Digifanatic: "Okay, okay, okay. May I start my side of the situation?"
Soldier: "Funny story. In this place, which is real, unlike your stories, we defeated Robotnik."
Soldier: "Well... Sonic helped. But that's another story."
Aribar: "Huh... Congratulations."
Digifanatic: "You see, we're a group of fighters. Kind of like you guys. We fought on another planet."
Aribar goes to sit on a nearby desk or chair while Digi tells his story.*
Soldier: "But I'm going to even go beyond your bizarre alibi. The matter of things is that your weapons aren't permitted in the city as they are."
Digifanatic: "In fact, we have had our own skirmishes with Dr. Robotnik."
Metal Man (GM): He turns to Digi and listens for a moment.
Digifanatic: "Well, please let me explain the weapons. Before we all converged together on our previous planet, all of us came from our worlds of our own."
Metal Man (GM): The human is patient and... as for the hedgehog... He is too, for now.
Digifanatic: "So we all brought things from our worlds as items to aid us with our fighting. And for some of us, we acquired weapons from our past planet, after we all met. Now. I'll explain how we all came here."
Soldier: "Hm." He shrugged. "It makes no sense to me... you might save us all some time by not continuing."
Digifanatic: "Okay. I'm honestly sorry for any confusion."
Aribar: "Basically, we're a police force from another world."
Digifanatic: "And we came here after we were told by our boss we did all we could do from the other world."
Soldier: "Since your intentions aren't evil, I'll just get to the short of it: according to regulation 1,335C, no armed or ready to use weapons are to be kept on one's person on city grounds."
Deloth: "Is there a storage locker we can keep them in?"
Soldier: "Well, yes. You may make use of that, or... you can get permits and proper locking devices, but those cost money."
Aribar: "We have absolutely no knowledge of this world. As I told the police officer, ignorance doesn't excuse us from following the law, but we had no way of knowing."
Hedgehog: "Hmph. Tripped out on some strange drug, I'm sure... they're a bunch of strange people."
Digifanatic: .oO(They're not giving us enough time to understand our point...)
Soldier: "If you aren't from here, you probably don't have any money either... at least, useful to us."
Lance: "So if we leave the city there is no problems then?"
Deloth bites his tongue to avoid a snarky rejoinder. This is turning out to be a total disaster...
Soldier: "Yes. You can leave the city."
Digifanatic: "Okay. Are there any civilized places around here that allow more liberal rules towards what we may possess?"
Soldier: "There is Westopolis." He chuckles. "You might get a few new air holes there, though."
Aribar: "How much are these weapon permits?"
Lance: "Air holes? ..." *catches on.* "Oh."
Soldier: "Fifteen rings... of course, some people use coins too, since rings are rather large."
Chancé: .oO(rings as currency?)
Dragoshi: "And the locking devices?"
Digifanatic: "Hmm... out of curiosity, when and where did you two last see Sonic?"
Soldier: "Five rings per weapon. Sonic? He went off on some adventure months ago. That was when most people last saw him."
Dragoshi: *Writes down the price of the permits and locking devices on his notepad for future reference.* "Alright then. Thanks."
Digifanatic: "Okay. Thank you..."
Deloth silently wonders if their moves would still work...
Hedgehog: "Oh, I saw him later than that, but I'm not telling 'aliens' about it."
Aribar: "May I ask if there have been other aliens besides us here?"
Soldier: "No. Otherwise no one would find you strange. Well. We see some strange stuff on the edges of the ocean, but none of us at GUN spend our time worrying about the frontier..."
Hedgehog: "He's just a low level officer. That's why he doesn't know anything. Heh heh heh."
Deloth: "Uh, sir, may I ask a question?"
Soldier: "It's better than being confusing."
Digifanatic: *lets Deloth ask his question.*
Aribar frowns at the unhelpful hedgehog... The elf begins to think that they should have thought about their goals before coming to this city.*
Deloth: "Is there a vacant lot or someplace open nearby? I might be able to prove our story a little bit. I just don't want to accidentally catch someone in any possible crossfire."
Aribar looks over to Del and wonders if he plans on doing what the half-elf thinks he wants to do..
Lance also facepalms.
Digifanatic doesn't facepalm quite yet... he'll only make a notable reaction if it really backfires. He's actually piqued by this request.
Soldier: *Raises an eyebrow.* "By doing what? I believe you have weapons, but anybody could have those."
Hedgehog: "He's going to get us with flying saucers! I'm sure of it!"
Trigger: *holds in laughter.* *coughs.*
Deloth: "Basically, sir, in addition to weapons, we can perform special innate attacks. I believe I still have at least one..." *thinking.* "I hope..."
Metal Man (GM): The hedgehog begins laughing. The soldier shrugs.
Soldier: "Most of the mobians on this planet have special innate attacks too..."
Digifanatic: .oO(Mobian... that's a welcome name.)
Soldier: "Although empowered humans are strange, they aren't impossible."
Trigger: *whispers to Digi.* "Ummm, is Deloth trying to get them to hate us more?"
Soldier: "Mostly unethical."
Deloth: "Well, then, never mind."
Digifanatic: *whispers back.* "I wouldn't think so. I think he's just trying to get them to understand what's going on, which was what I was hoping to do."
Soldier: "It requires genetic engineering which grants the humans involved greater power at the expense of... too many other things. We never even bothered to try it; merely did some checking."
Aribar: "Ah, in any case..."
Soldier: "Clearly you aren't those, but I am sure there is something missing that makes up for your lack of deformities."
Lance: "Like what?"
Trigger: *whispers back.* "I just think there is no reasoning with them... unless we could prove our worth to them or something like that?"
Soldier: "I'm no scientist. I'd guess you'd be from a higher level culture than ours. Perhaps beyond the edges of what we know of the world. But I don't know anything else beyond that. He does."
Digifanatic: *w* "Yeah... like showing them what we can do with that odd disturbance by the ocean."
Hedgehog: "As I told you, I'm not telling you anything. It's top secret, and all of you new people are probably trying to distract GUN while some of your buddies rob a bank."
Trigger: *w back.* "Try asking them about it then..."
Digifanatic: *out loud.* "Okay. I have a compromise. I believe there is a way we can work this out."
Chancé: .oO(Why do I have an itching need to facepalm?)
Soldier: "Well, the storage lockers don't cost anything, if you want to stay in the city..."
Digifanatic: "You said there is this disturbance out by the ocean, but you haven't been too concerned with it because it's out by the exterior. Now, say for instance it ever decides to threaten the city. You'd be fighting blind."
Aribar: "We can basically act as a... Mercenary group."
Digifanatic: "We could take you down to this disturbance and fight it off. In doing so, we can do three things for you. One, we show you everything we've acquired from our past experience."
Soldier: *He chuckles.* "I'm sorry, but GUN has its own men for that. Heck, I can show you them. They fought off Eggman. I helped."
Digifanatic: "Two, you can understand our past a bit more. Three, you can gain some knowledge on what's invaded the shoreline in case it ever comes inward and threatens this city."
Lance: "Digi, they are plainly tired of talking with us, and we are taking up their time."
Digifanatic: "So you have an upper hand when it becomes a more prominent concern."
Hedgehog: "Our men would be able to infiltrate any unknown city and set themselves up shop without any of this business. If either of us were high enough rank to even hire you in the first place, your display of uncoordinated confusion would remove that idea very quickly..."
Soldier: "He is somewhat right... you could become GUN officers though. It has a lot of training."
Aribar: "I mean no offense because what you say does hold truth, Hedgehog, but how organized would a squad of your officers be if you were dropped off in a foreign location you know nothing about."
Hedgehog: "Mercenaries are mostly there for drug lords and the Eggman, maaaaybe. GUN has their own soldiers. We have a whole line of training related to that. The first thing is to secure ID and money, possibly by selling some unneeded equipment, then find a place to live while investigating job opportunities... and making notes of the city for others if we should find them and need to investigate. The Eggman held out in some very strange places, but I'm not entitled to tell you about those either."
Soldier: "GUN was once lacking in some aspects. That is why Eggman nearly conquered us."
Hedgehog: "You know, we are sort of holding up an entire police station over some tourists..."
Soldier: "Hm... yes. And I really should get to that business in Sector 8."
Aribar: "We basically came to this police station to... Belay any worried citizens because of who we are. We came here since it was the only civilized place we saw when we first entered this world. While knowing that this place is Mobius, assuming that is where Mobians comes from, is helpful, we still probably need to know more about this place, find somewhere to live, and earn money to legally wear our weapons... We basically came to this city because it was the only civilized place we saw when we entered this world. When we saw people staring at us we came to this station to belay their fears and tell the authorities who we are. You now know who we are, whether you believe it or not. We want to live in this city, or at least pass through it, legally and unhindered."
Soldier: "Well, unfortunately, we're not an information desk. Of course... you're in a police station."
Lance: "So basically we are free to go?"
Soldier: "If you want a map... .ehhh... there's one buried in here somewhere."
Hedgehog: *Unlocks door.* "Go! Go! Be free! Enough alien conspiracies in this city!"
Metal Man (GM): The man finds a map. It's very general. Drawn on a napkin, even. He is puzzled at it.
Soldier: "It's not good, but it'll do..."
Deloth turns around and heads out the doors. Stupid skeptics...
Lance: "It's still useful. Thank you... erm, I never got your name."
Trigger: *follows Deloth.*
Aribar: "Thank you, sir." *The half-elf takes the 'map' from the man and puzzles it over while heading out the door.*
Metal Man (GM): http://www.smbhq.com/users/ssb_rpg/segaregionmap.png
Soldier: "That would be..." He taps his badge, which has his name on it. It's 'Charles McClintock.' "Now, if you'll excuse us, we have other business..." He walks out.
Lance: "Well thank you Charles."
Metal Man (GM): The hedgehog stays for a moment, chuckling.
Lance: "And thank you for your time too." *walks out.*
Hedgehog: "Man, you are lost. Letting a low level grunt talk to you like that? I wouldn't even listen to his babble for a moment!"
Metal Man (GM): He walks out.
Dragoshi: *Shrugs, and walks out, following Lance.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers are unsure where they came from, but it was definitely something next to this Central City place...
Lance: "Sorry for taking up time in your office." *To the police officer.*
Officer: "Er... I had no choice anyway. GUN is pushy."
Metal Man (GM): He walks into his office nonchalantly.
Lance: "It's ok."
Metal Man (GM): People continue to stare at the Questers. One can make out some other mobians in the crowds.
Digifanatic: *He's out with them.*
Lance: "So guys, let's head out of the city to Emerald Coast."
Metal Man (GM): The man from earlier is still there.
Lance heads out of town.
Man: "Wait... the men from Egg man are still here!"
Metal Man (GM): The man who originally ran to the police office...
Lance: "We got that cleared out."
Man: "But... you're weird! You're going to loot and burn and build machines!"
Lance: "Gun thinks we are OK."
Man: "...Hmph." He walks off.
Trigger: "Wow, what a prick."
Lance: "Have a nice day."
Aribar addresses the man, "Sir, GUN soldiers now know that we are in the city... And we're leaving this place. And we're enemies of the deceased Eggman... And now you're gone." *The elf continues on with the others.*
Metal Man (GM): The city's edge is open to exploration... can't get much further, though. There's GUN people on the sidewalks which lead further in.
Lance: "So, to Emerald Coast?"
Deloth: "I have to wonder how we're gonna get some cash. What the hell are we supposed to do, open a lemonade stand?"
Lance: "We have to find money somehow."
Trigger: "Let's go then."
Metal Man (GM): A man overhears you.
Lance: "Deloth, the trouble on emerald coast? Enemies drop money."
???: "Hey... you want cash? You look... like some well-armed people..."
???: "Maybe you could... ahem... 'eliminate' some competition."
Digifanatic: *turns in the voice's direction and takes a look at the guy.*
Metal Man (GM): It's... it's the guy named Al. He's big, fat, and smoking a cigar.
Deloth: "No thanks. Our reputation's already low enough as is."
???: "Bah! Reputation is nothing. You need money!"
Lance: "So, to Emerald Coast?" *Ignoring the man.*
Metal Man (GM): He stands there, watching the Questers.
Trigger: "Umm, sure."
Aribar: "Perhaps if we can find out information about the ocean, document it, and give it to GUN we can get some money and gain a little status in their eyes..." *Aribar's voice lowers as the mysterious man named Al talks. He already doesn't like him.*
Dragoshi: "Yea, emerald coast sounds good." *Doing the same as Lance.*
Lance heads outside the city, this time for real.
Deloth: *turning around to the others.* "Let's go. I need to get used to this new form, anyways." *follows along.*
Al: "Of course, if you think that's bad... I can just loan you some money--or watch you leave the city. Hmph! I'll find some way to put those jerks outta business."
Aribar: "Or we could turn you into the police for attempting to hire an assassin."
Dragoshi: *Follows behind the others.*
Al: "Go ahead and try, I'm Al. They won't do anything."
Metal Man (GM): He walks into his shop.
Aribar follows the others and leaves big Al Yankovi... err... Al behind. He does make note of the shop he enters, though.
Metal Man (GM): It's the Dry Goods shop.
Digifanatic: *walks in.*
Metal Man (GM): Large. Well funded. Slightly empty. High prices. The Questers are headed out through the Emerald Coast now. Or at least, they're walking through it. It is very peaceful and green here.
Lance: "Well, at least the name fits."
Deloth: "What the heck happened to me in that book, anyways? Did one of you go nuts with a Sharpie before I went in?"
Metal Man (GM): There isn't see much here, however; it looks like mostly a bunch of hills and... well, there's a beach further West.
Lance: "I thought there was something going on here? Meh, I never took the tomato sauce to you Deloth."
Digifanatic: "I didn't do it... Maybe it's just some coming-of-age situation you were never informed of that happened to be ill-timed."
Lance: "This is not a book digi. Well... it is. But."
Aribar: "I don't quite remember what I wrote..." *The elf continues walking along.*
Deloth: "You'd think SOMEONE would have let something slip."
Aribar: "So, we're heading towards the ocean, right?"
Metal Man (GM): Well; with nothing but fields and the occasional bridged water crossing, The Questers make their way to the beach. It's equally peaceful, with tide at mid height.
Digifanatic looks for things like spare rings and signs of the disturbance that was supposed to be on the coast.
Lance: "Yeah Aribar, the officer let slip something was happening there." *joins Digi.*
Metal Man (GM): Darkdata finds a chaos cola bottle.
Dragoshi: *Also joins in on the search as well. Whee.*
Metal Man (GM): Hm... get enough of these and one could recycle them.
Lance takes the bottle.
Metal Man (GM): Digi finds... ...the water very very far away looks suspicious.
Lance: "It could be useful for something."
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi sticks his hand in a den of a crab. It squishes his claw.
Digifanatic: "Hey, folks... take a look down there." *points to the odd water.* "Let's see what's going on."
Metal Man (GM): The water is... on the horizon. One would have to swim for a very long distance.
Deloth: "..." *shades his eyes and looks.*
Aribar watches all of the others search the area... The elf just stands as a bit of a lookout until Digi mentions something.*
Deloth: "Digi, we'd drown before we got that far."
Digifanatic looks down to see if the shoreline continues anywhere close to the oddness.
Lance: "Maybe something closer?"
Aribar shades his eyes from the sun with his hand and tries to catch a glimpse at what Digi sees.*
Metal Man (GM): Nope. All there is on the shoreline is a pier to the north. And it's sort of abandoned.
Dragoshi: *Snarls in annoyance, pulls his hand out, and tries to get the crab off his claw. Somehow.*
Metal Man (GM): The crab is easily dislodged.
Digifanatic: "Hmm... yeah, that is going to take way too long."
Metal Man (GM): Aribar see mostly water, and some strange wavy water very, very far away.
Digifanatic: *checks the opposite direction--another.*
Lance: "Well, it is called the Ocean of chaos."
Dragoshi: *Tries to search again. Whee.*
Digifanatic: "True... maybe something will find us first for all we know."
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi finds a buried chest. It is very small. It has... Wario's face on the lock. One can easily pull it out.
Deloth: "...Wha--but--how--HOW DID YOU FIND THAT?!"
Dragoshi: *Shrugs, and grabs the buried chest.*
Aribar looks over to Del and then to Dragoshi.* "I would imagine by looking."
Metal Man (GM): It flips open, exposing its vast emptiness.
Digifanatic: "Aww, come on!"
Metal Man (GM): It's just large enough one can stand atop it.
Digifanatic: *notes the Wario head...*
Lance: "Wow, lu-- Hmm, well it makes a excellent carrying device."
Digifanatic: "Well, if we can come across Wario and Sonic in the same region... maybe..."
Dragoshi: "...Hmmm." *Stands atop it, just because.* >_>
Metal Man (GM): It easily supports Dragoshi's weight.
Digifanatic: "There could be stuff like... invisible blocks?"
Dragoshi: *Decides to use it as a perch to help him search for anything else of interest.*
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi falls on Digi omstead/
Digifanatic: *Ka-THUMP* "Careful, there..."
Lance gives it a try.
Dragoshi: *Quickly jumps back up.* "Err... Sorry 'bout that."
Aribar steps away from the scene of the disaster.*
Metal Man (GM): Darkdata falls on top of Dragoshi and Digi.
Metal Man (GM): In the middle of that he sees Westopolis to the South.
Aribar: "Somehow I think we're wasting our time out here. Unless some underwater monstrosity comes out and attack us, I think our journey will have been a waste."
Lance: "That thing must have oil on it or something."
Dragoshi: *Rolls out from under Lance, stands back up on the chest, and he tries to punch the air above him.* >_>
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi leaps up and down, punching nothing.
Deloth: "...Hey, guys? Help me remember to pick up a new set of clothes somewhere. This old leather armor isn't really fitting right anymore."
Digifanatic: "Move the chest around... if we can't find anything in the next couple of tries, THEN we move on."
Dragoshi: "...Nothing." *Decides to search from where he's standing on.*
Aribar goes down by the ocean and starts constructing a sand castle. It has been a long time since Ari was at the beach, and they aren't doing much constructive work, so.. he uses his mastery of elemental magic to help.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers can't find much here, no matter how much they move around. Aribar is slowly building a sand castle.
Deloth just heads down and cools his feet in the water for a while.
Metal Man (GM): The water feels slightly warm.
Digifanatic: "Ari, I'm not sure if now is the time. We're trying to figure out what to do and where to go, and not being very familiar with this planet doesn't help."
Dragoshi: *Gets off the chest, and decides to check it for secret compartments or something.* >_> *Just because.*
Aribar: "Well, you guys were investigating the chest, and the only interesting thing here is that chest, so..."
Lance: "Well, so much for that."
Aribar: "In any case, we know where we are... But you are right. We have no purpose. We're on Mobius. So far we know that Sonic is off on an adventure and hasn't been seen for a while. Something odd is in this ocean. Central City is filled with unscrupulous businessmen who would assassinate their competition and GUN won't deal with them."
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi trips and falls.
Lance: "It's like this book is at its end and missing a plot hook."
Digifanatic: "Okay... let me think of one more thing." *heads to the chest, stands on it, and takes a squint out towards Westopolis.*
Aribar: "Or perhaps we're simply wandering around aimlessly right now?"
Metal Man (GM): Westopolis certainly looks alive to Digi. It's just across a slightly rough-looking desert.
Digifanatic: "Folks... think Westopolis will treat us any better than Central City?"
Lance: "Sigh, could be that Ari."
Deloth just lies down on the sand. "Eh. Wandering around aimlessly is how we come across most of our missions."
Dragoshi: *Just takes the Wario-faced treasure chest with him, then. Just 'cause.* <_>
Lance: "Well, we could look there, we have to be careful of more Al's though."
Digifanatic: "Okay, here's what we can do. Anyone who wants to explore Westopolis, say 'Aye.'"
Aribar shrugs while continuing to build his sandcastle.* "It may be dangerous, but we could do so. I suppose one way to get acquainted with the world is to explore it."
Lance: "Might as well, hold on a second though."
Deloth: "...Huh. I just thought of something."
Digifanatic: "Well, so far, that's one vote. Anybod--two--yes, Deloth?"
Lance takes a scoop of sand and fills the bottle he found.
Deloth: "I wonder if my moves changed along with this new whatchamacallit form."
Lance: "Might come in handy. heh."
Metal Man (GM): The map isn't the best of maps. The desert would technically be a part of the area of 'Westopolis', since it's right across from it.
Deloth sits up and starts trying various hand gestures.
Lance: "Possible. I still say you look like a furry angel, so light magic?"
Digifanatic: "Eh, we don't have much else, Ch--er, Lance, sorry about that, I'm just used to Chancé--but yeah, we don't have a lot of other things, so that might work out."
Deloth: "Hmm... maybe if I try this..." *swoops his hand upwards. A Light Pillar blasts out of the ocean and into the sky.* "...Yep."
Digifanatic: "Oh, I hope you didn't mess anything up with that."
Lance: "Yeah, Nice."
Aribar looks at the pillar of light.* "I wonder if that is what those GUN officer were talking about when they mentioned innate talents... And I wonder if they have anyone keeping tabs on us..."
Lance: "Can you do anything else Deloth?"
Deloth: "Uh... maybe." *stands back up and dusts the sand off of himself.* "Well, last time, I had a move that shot me upwards. Maybe I've got a different one now?"
Lance: "Possible, try?"
Metal Man (GM): The Questers would notice a clear path to the south, which would lead to the desert... and eventually, Westopolis.
Deloth turns back towards solid ground, backs up a few steps, and takes a running leap... right into a dark, swirling portal. He then pops out of another one a few feet above and falls back to the ground.
Digifanatic: "Whoa, that was cool."
Lance: "Nice, minor teleportation."
Aribar puts the finishing touches on his sandcastle.*
Deloth: "Yeah, but... light AND dark? Weird."
Lance: "So, lets head into the desert."
Digifanatic: "...I've had an interest towards fire and ice for a while. Doesn't seem too odd."
Lance: "We might find something there at least."
Aribar: "Then I could make desert sand castles..." *The elf heads off towards the desert and hopes they'll be okay going through there... Without supplies or anything..*
Digifanatic: "Alright, then..." *heads towards the desert between EC and Westopolis.*
Deloth starts walking, rubs a hand over his head... and finds a tiny set of wings there, too.
Lance: "Maybe your a Elde? Angeldemon?"
Metal Man (GM): The desert is very dry, and the sun makes it hotter as the Questers get further. There are some cacti and small shrub trees around here.
Deloth: "...That combination doesn't seem possible, Lance."
Lance follows the others. "Nice wings."
Aribar continues walking along... Picking up a handful of sand and letting it sift through his fingers while he walks... Occasionally taking a leaf or needle from a cactus... Passing the time.
Digifanatic takes a steady look at times, turning his head around, checking for the oddball Badnik and such that might ambush the alie--he means, Questers.
Lance adjusts his pink sunglasses to cover his eyes.
Dragoshi: *Pulls out a pair of ridiculous shades to cover his own eyes.* >_>
Metal Man (GM): The Questers soon come to a crossroads. A number of people and/or mobians are milling about. There's a group of men with guns idly leaning around in this area. One of them comes up to the Questers.
Digifanatic: .oO(Not this.)
Thug: "What are a bunch of freaks doing here? Gotta pay us to enter Westopolis. It's a fancy place. Can't be letting poor people in."
Lance: "Does this ever work?"
Digifanatic: *quietly.* "I don't think so..."
Aribar stops and looks at the mean. The half-elf idly places his hand on his sword. He looks around to see if Westopolis is nearby.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers are in the desert before Westopolis. Therefore they aren't there yet.
Deloth: "Look, we've been through this situation before. It's never turned out well for the money-demanders. Please move."
Thug: "Well, it does, mostly. Either idiots run away or give us their money, or they die. Or they're one of us."
Deloth: "Not when we're around, it hasn't."
Thug: "You think you can challenge us? We'll gladly beat you into the floor."
Aribar looks about... He tries to see if he and the others can just go around a ways and pass these thugs.* "Del, silence..."
Metal Man (GM): Aribar would see there is a ways to the left or right... And there's only about 3-4 people here 'guarding' the road.
Aribar: "Apologies... Kind sir... Let us just gather together our money." *Whispers to the others, "Let's just go around these fools."
Lance: *w* "I agree."
Digifanatic: *w* "Alright, then... makes you wonder why we can't get a break cut for us for anything."
Lance walks away with everyone else.
Deloth grumbles a bit as he follows the group.
Thug: "You're very strange people." They sit there. Chance` begins walking...
Digifanatic: *heads away with the others.*
Aribar turns back to the thug... He curtly and a bit rudely says, "Apologies, we're poor. Goodbye." before following the others. Lead, Lance!*
Aribar: *Randomly, since no one else seems to be choosing a particular direction to walk in... he goes right.*
Lance follows Ari!
Trigger: *follows Ari.*
Digifanatic: *He's going to the right as well.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers make their way far into the desert. They're a bit lost, but those punks are out of sight. One can now head towards... Westopolis? Where is it?
Deloth: "...Told you we should have rumbled with those idiots."
Digifanatic: "Dragoshi, chest, please?"
Lance: "All we have to do is go south, bearing a little left."
Dragoshi: *Hands Digi the chest. I guess.*
Digifanatic: "Thanks." *stands up so he can get a better look at the horizon again.*
Metal Man (GM): It seems like Darkdata's plan should work fairly well. Dragoshi believes the way to go is... East for all eternity.
Lance: "Come on guys, *starts moving the way he said.*"
Aribar: "Seems logical." *Follows Lancey Chancey's instructions.*
Dragoshi: .oO(No, no, no... That's ridiculous. Ehhh... I'll just follow the majority.) *Does just that.* >_>
Digifanatic: *just follows Lance.*
Deloth: *trudges along some more. Are we having fun yet?*
Aribar: *Because we chose the diplomatic route, yes.*
Metal Man (GM): It's hard to see out here. It's a bit bright and it's a long distance... The route is a bit long, but about as the sun is setting the Questers see Westopolis.
Lance: "We should of took care of those guys as a public service. Meh. Too late now."
Aribar sighs.* "So now we're coinless, in a town we could be shot up in, and it's about to be night time."
Trigger: "...Sounds like fun."
Digifanatic: "Yeah... I think we're going to need to get back to Central City. At least they offered us something."
Lance: "Yep, on the plus side, if we decide to leave it will be cooler in the desert."
Digifanatic: "I mean, we can just pay off of the loan in the future, right?"
Lance: "We can always camp on the beach anyway."
Deloth: "Or we could've camped on the beach. In fact, pretty much ANYTHING could be better than our current course of action."
Lance: "Digi. No."
Trigger: "Camp with what?"
Lance: "You do not accept loans from guys like that."
Aribar looks about Westopolis... He tries to determine what this place is like.
Metal Man (GM): It's another city. The only difference is a large number of people have weapons, and GUN obviously isn't a big force here. That, and it has a different layout... Upon entering the city, the Questers see another main street, which people cross at random, with cars driving, also at random. On the left there is a Payday advance place... then further down the left... 'Guns n' Explosives'??? There's a casino past that.
Digifanatic: "Ohhh man."
Aribar: "Hrm... Del's attacks are sort of flashy. I can conjure lightning and such... Maybe we can find some place to do some performances to earn some food and board."
Metal Man (GM): On the right is a Liquor store... there's a street that one can turn right down, too.
Trigger: "...You're kidding, right?"
Lance: "Yep, I see what the guy meant."
Metal Man (GM): There's a big ol' motel further down the right side of the street.
Digifanatic: "I hate to say this, but..." *sigh.* "How else will people believe us?"
Deloth: "Uh, it's probably not a good idea to be using attacks that I don't really know too well yet, Ari."
Metal Man (GM): Off in the distance, an abandoned warehouse looms.
Aribar: "More fun that way, Del."
Lance: "They won't Digi. Our old world is gone. We live n this one now. heh."
Trigger: *sigh.* "I miss Nintendus..."
Deloth heads towards the warehouse, just to check it out.
Metal Man (GM): Some people stare at the Questers here... but they aren't afraid. Rather, they seem to be sizing up if they have any money or not.
Digifanatic: "Or whatever our last planet was." *cautiously follows Deloth.*
Lance follows. Whee!
Aribar sighs and follows the others.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers wander across a dirty, car-haunted street with broken bottles all over the place to a big ol' abandoned warehouse. A sign says 'CONDEMNED' and 'KEEP OUT' and all the windows are broken, and it's empty and dark.
Dragoshi: *Just moseys on along.*
Metal Man (GM): The door isn't all that locked either...
Deloth: "...Yeah, screw this place."
Metal Man (GM): A person walks up to the Questers.
???: "Hey, you guys new here?"
Lance: "So, back to the beach then. We can check our weapons at central and find some--"
Deloth: *cautiously.* "Yessss... why?"
???: "Huh. Fancy some cash?"
Dragoshi: *Nods silently, and leans 'gainst the wall.*
Aribar looks at this new person..*
Dragoshi: "I suppose..."
???: "You look dangerous. And I need some errands done."
Trigger: "What's the catch? What kinda errands?"
???: "Well, we here at the casino don't fancy a bunch of thugs wandering around, but it's illegal for us to just shoot them... ...but if you're new here, you won't have a record. So you can get away with several crimes before you actually are in trouble. Of course, most people pay to have their records lost... Whataya say? Beat up lawless lowlives and make a mint, or wander the streets and get robbed?"
Aribar: "Break the law or wait until we can fight in self defense?"
???: "The latter doesn't make much money. Thugs often spend all their money... er... I'm not going to say what they spend it on." He glances at the casino.
Trigger: "...Ugh, this whole place seems all backwards..."
Lance: "... Or, we could watch the casino, and if anyone starts a fight we can fight them in self defense."
Deloth turns around and starts walking away.
Lance: "No laws broken."
Dragoshi: "That we can."
Lance follows Del.
???: "Well, the law doesn't so much exist here as it is often bent and... busted... but if you're goodie-two-shoes, okay..."
Digifanatic: .oO(Why in the world does nobody just accept us?!)
Metal Man (GM): The Questers wander away. They see the various people wandering around.
Aribar sighs... The elf knows that this is probably the best job they're going to get, but it is more than a bit against his morale compass..*
Dragoshi: *Sighs, and follows the others.*
Deloth: "Zero for two so far..."
Metal Man (GM): There's a place with a lot of people in strange costumes down another street. Well, not 'costumes', some of them look like body guards.
Digifanatic: *keeps going with the others.*
Trigger: *follows the others.*
Metal Man (GM): There's lots of shops too, in that area. It's like some large swap place.
Aribar mutters to the others once they're a bit away from that ??? guy.* "Maybe being hired as... Bouncers... Is the best thing we can do."
Digifanatic: "Yeah... either that or like what Lance said--if something happens and we can help defend someone, maybe we can get some positive remarks for once."
Deloth: "I think the best thing we can do is get out of this city."
Metal Man (GM): There's a lot of 'workers wanted' signs down at the weird market area. Though the signs are a bit dirty.
Trigger: "We need money though."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers hear a gunshot behind their current position.
Lance: "I agree with Del."
Trigger: "Let's go!!"
Digifanatic: "Hang on." *Tries to read thr--and then he just gets out of here.*
Deloth ducks his head down and starts running.
Lance: "We should see if anyone is in trouble. Or not." *runs with the others.*
Dragoshi: *Sighs, agitated, and follows the others.*
Trigger: "...I'm sure who ever got shot is... perfectly fine..." *starts running.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers do, however, get a good idea of who's doing the shooting. It's a weird echidna guy, and he and some thugs are shooting at one another.
Aribar: "Yes, let us march blindly towards the signs of danger.* "Heads after the others towards the gunfight.*
Metal Man (GM): Seems like everyone in this town is about ready to shoot one another.
Deloth: *Outta there!*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers flee from town, down the main road. Maybe it was good they left.
Dragoshi: *Exit, stage everyone else, even!*
Metal Man (GM): The gunshots intensify in the distance, and one has to wonder...
Digifanatic: "Okay, what are the chances Station Square is gonna be more friendly?"
Metal Man (GM): If anyone on either side in that fight was good.
Lance: "So, yeah. We never go there again, unless we have to."
Trigger: "Now where do we go?"
Aribar: "We need to get organized."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers remember that, down this road eventually comes the junction with the thugs who want money.
Digifanatic: "Heck, perhaps Station Square will be quiet enough by the time we get there, nobody will notice. Now hang on."
Aribar: "We are no longer heroes. This world doesn't need us. Eggman appears to be gone, GUN seems to have everything under control."
Metal Man (GM): Aribar's statement is punctuated by more gunshots in the distance.
Aribar: "... At least in areas under their jurisdiction."
Digifanatic: "This is probably the same path back towards those guys that wanted to shoot us earlier... so to the east... and then the north... and then back west once we get past the desert."
Lance stops with Digi.
Deloth: "So what, Ari? I'm not going to roll over and die just because nothing's come up for us so far."
Digifanatic: "You guys like my idea? It's probably the easiest way to avoid the creeps."
Metal Man (GM): Smoke plumes over the area the Questers just left.
Deloth: "Let's do it. ...Wait, smoke?" *turns around and looks back at the city.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers see a sort of battle going on, in the city. Of course, all the buildings look rather full of holes... It started where everyone left.
Lance: "Oh dear, how about we get out of this city, then we talk?"
Digifanatic: "If this is going to turn into 'Westopolis Side Story' I'm getting out of here!"
Lance: "That desert looks great right now."
Aribar: "We could join GUN or a police force. We could attempt to straighten up this Westopolis, although that seems impossible. We have had tons of opportunities thus far..."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers hear police sirens... ...all that adds to it is even more gunfire.
Deloth: "Alright, for now, let's just focus on finding a place to snooze. And getting out of here."
Digifanatic: *Heads east for enough period to get out of the range of the border thugs before cutting north again.*
Metal Man (GM): *BOOM* A building closer to the Questers is hit by a molotov cocktail.
Deloth starts following Digi's route. Quickly.
Aribar follows the others.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers begin wandering away, as the city continues what may be a normal occurrence... or maybe extraordinary. Either way, they're back to the desert.
Lance follows Digi.
Metal Man (GM): All the Questers can see of the city now is a growing smoke cloud.
Digifanatic: "Not cool."
Lance: "Ok, first things first. We never go there again, unless there is no choice. I just want that restated."
Metal Man (GM): It's a pretty night out here. The smoke only blocks a few stars. ... The moon is missing a huge chunk out of it.
Dragoshi: "...Okay, who ate the moon?"
Digifanatic: "The freak that thought it was green cheese and was too high to not tell the difference. Seriously, though, who knows?"
Trigger: "Who knows?"
Deloth: "Maybe someone tried to blow up the moon and goofed."
Trigger: "HA!! YEAH, RIGHT!!"
Lance: "Maybe it happened during that Eggman war."
Digifanatic: "Okay, so like I suggested, Station Square?"
Aribar shrugs.* "At this stage, I have no opinion."
Trigger: "Let's go, I'm sick of this desert... and bullets... and getting yelled at."
Deloth: *tiredly.* "Sure."
Lance: "We have no money, we should find somewhere to camp until daylight and try again at Station Square, looking for work."
Metal Man (GM): It's pretty much North from here... too bad the Questers didn't bring much, if any, food.
Lance slides his glasses down his nose so he can see without the tint.
Digifanatic: *After walking north a proper distance until he knows they're back in the clear, he heads west to head back towards Emerald Coast... The actual coastline, not just the region.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers begin walking down the road in the dark... it's a bit lonely, but no bullets!
Metal Man (GM): The Questers walk by the beach... The Questers see a glowing lantern by the pier.
Digifanatic: *And north along the coast again, hopefully into Station Square. Until he sees the lantern.*
Aribar looks to see if he can see anyone in the lantern's light.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers see another human, by a boat, cooking stuff by a fire. A fisherman. Not a hobo. (I'm not that evil yet.)
Digifanatic: *sighs.* "Hello? We come in peace."
???: "Oh. It's the strange people again."
Trigger: "Not this again..."
Metal Man (GM): He stands up, lit up by the light. A bit burly.
???: "Yes, I'm here. I gotta wonder what you're doing out right now... it's like you're really, really lost."
Aribar was going to pass up this camping site entirely until he hears the familiar voice..*
Dragoshi: "...Pretty much."
???: "I mean. Even that dumb guy I hired once found his way back to Westopolis... then later I got his obituary. Killed by crazy echidnas, it seems."
Digifanatic: "We nearly got caught up in that."
???: "That place is catching on fire every five minutes, and no other city can be perfect. That's why I live out here."
Lance: "Does that city always blow up?"
Aribar: "When you have a group with half a dozen people who all have different opinions on what to do, getting lost is easy..."
Digifanatic: "What's Station Square like?"
???: "Yes, yes. It's known as widow maker city to us folks outside. Only the really rich or armed or stupid go there... er... Station Square? It's a pretty slick town, unlike there. It's quite a while away, though. It's peaceful enough out here to just sleep under the stars. With Robotnik gone, there aren't any robots to getcha. Since ye apparently can't afford transportation... ...do ye even have any money?"
Deloth: "Not yet, sir."
Digifanatic: "Not yet."
Aribar: "Nope. We've been from Central City, to the ocean, to Westopolis... Turning down everything that came our way."
Lance: "We got dumped here... ."
???: "I saw you staring out at the ocean, too. You probably don't like it here... you might like what's out there."
Lance: "Although all that came our way was lawless offers."
???: "I can get you there if you want, and I won't even charge you a billion for it. And you won't have to kill anyone."
Lance: "Out there?"
???: "You must be pretty moral if you ignored all the petitioners... most people stick with those. Out there. There's other lands, or so I've heard. But my good boat's a wreck."
Deloth: "We try."
Digifanatic: "Yeah. We're just trying to keep as much peace as we can..."
Digifanatic: "Like we'll ever be able to do that in Westopolis."
???: "I dislike cities, so I don't bother to repair my ship, ya see."
Deloth: "Look, if it's all the same to you, I might just sleep here on the beach. I'm about ready to pass out."
Lance: "How did your boat get recked?"
???: "Go ahead. Water's at high tide, so it won't be 'wakin yeh. Oh, that... yes..."
Deloth lies down on the sand and falls asleep almost instantly. G'night, guys.
???: "During the Eggman wars, I got too close to a peculiar floating place, and those crazy Echidnas shot it to pieces!"
Trigger: "Wow, he was tired..."
???: "Man. They're responsible for half the crime, and I don't even know what to call them!"
Digifanatic: "Yeah. Lunatics, maybe?"
???: "They got weird outfits and shoot at anythin' they don't understand."
Lance: "Kinda reminds me of a greed hedgehog, only he shoots off at the mouth."
???: "So, I've been saving up to repair, but I figured nobody wanted to use my boat to go anywhere. And it's been good fishing with just this pier and a boat that's small..."
Trigger: "Heh, nice one..."
Aribar: "The GUN soldiers said that there were disturbances or something odd out in this ocean... have you noticed anything?"
???: "There's a shop in Station Square. Yeh go over there and buy me this list o' parts. Oh. They're likely to have problems getting them... just tell them to slash the price as you'll help them get those. I've done it before, it should work again... oh, yeah. Those shiny weapons of yers. Might want to hide them before you go. Oh, yes. There's weird people far away, and I see them come out and explore occasionally."
Digifanatic: *He's never taken out his, so he's not too concerned.*
???: "They're very afraid o' us, and with reason: they live in some bizarre place."
Trigger: "Odd, did they look anything like us?"
???: "Big stuff, small stuff, stuff that's on fire. It's all got its own place there. I saw it once... that was where my ship got blown up. Nah. You guys look like people from another civilization. These people weren't human or mobian. They were weird."
Lance: "We don't really have any money to buy the parts though."
???: "Of course. That's what this is for."
Metal Man (GM): He drops a big bag full of gold coins...
???: "It's just enough, but if you do enough elbow grease, you can save money n' keep the leftovers."
Digifanatic: "Finally... someone that understands us."
Lance: "Hmm, thank you. What is your name anyway?"
???: "Well, few people here understand weird people. I only know 'cuz I seen 'em cross the ocean."
Trigger: "I know, it's good to feel wanted again... or something."
Marley: "I'm Marley... forgot my last name, I think it's in a book somewhere. Anyway. You can rest here, if you want. You look sort of dead... you've been everywhere, huh?"
Dragoshi: *Also nods.*
Lance: "Mostly, yesh."
Digifanatic: "Ohhh yeah."
Marley: "Th' sands or th' pier will work fine. I'm done with this fish I cooked too. And... well, I always buy too much water, you can probably drink some, though it's a little rusty tasting." He points to a cold-looking metal barrel. "It's not very deluxe', but... that's what I prefer."
Trigger: "Better then nothing though."
Marley: "I think I'll be fishin' now, though I can talk... just don't yell, you'll scare fish away. And don't be going to Westopolis without a coupla guns or a rocket launcher."
Digifanatic: "I see."
Lance: "K. And thank you, very much."
Aribar: "Thank you, sir."
Marley: "That place'll kill you and sell your bodies on the black market."
Trigger: "Thank you."
Marley: "They're all crazy there. Like that Al fella who nearly stole all my money."
Lance: "Al works in Central now apparently."
Marley: "My word, someday they'll all be in prison once GUN's done investigating that Eggman thing... Huh. Not surprisin'. He's... enterprisin'. Figure he bribed some cops n' blamed all his crimes on everybody else. He made a mint selling out some people who had been his friends, apparently."
Trigger: "Huh... you don't say."
Aribar: "That 'Al' person tried to hire us to kill some competition... And what Eggman thing, if I may ask?"
Marley: "Well, Eggman's gone, but for some reason everybody wants to be sure he's gone. So GUN's busy sending ships all over the place rather than hunting down people like Al. I see 'em every noon."
Digifanatic: "Well, knowing our past experiences, I would like him gone... Robotnik, that is."
Marley: "Maybe if you keep looking you might figure more out. I'm just a fisherman."
Lance: "I say you are more than that, but since you are poking us, I will not poke you."
Marley: "Station Square should be full o' answers. Or at least hordes of parts. Anyway. I'll be buseh." He walks off and continues fishing.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers rest now... mostly.
Lance: "So where are the shops for parts in Central anyway?"
Marley: "I dunno. Only Station Square. Can't miss 'em there."
Aribar ... Starts making another sandcastle.*
Lance starts recording today's events in his journal.
