Super Smash Quest² - Story - Chapter 18: A Death and An Oracle
Date: November 21st, 2008.
Metal Man (GM): Trevor, better known as Trevelyan, went in and made a giant tower... and teleportation devices... and nearly threatened the Federal Alliance as a whole. He was ready to destroy the entire city with the tower, which was a giant teleporter. He managed to, also, get the proper warp corrections from Deloth.
Metal Man (GM): However, he was foiled by a combined effort of Agent Dark and the Questers. He was, however, not one to give up, and risked death by falling rather than take the Questers on and agent Dark at the same time. The Questers then had to escape by helicopter with Agent Dark, as the Carrington Institute used their newest anti-teleporter weapon (and some conventional ones as well) to blow the tower to bits, before Trevor's last program on it could do the same to New Chicago.
Metal Man (GM): However, Trevelyan got away, using a teleporter which had fallen off the tower. He also kidnapped Flaeyn and Aribar, demanding ten power cells. We return to the Questers, after they had some time to rest.
Metal Man (GM): There are also ten power cells... and they're at the mouth of the snowy cave, which is surrounded by (still burning) debris. Johnathan Dark is there, looking around nervously, and there is a helicopter waiting in case something goes wrong. Continuation.
John: "I'm sorry about your friends. But I think we can send these power cells to him without much damage. If you guys wish to go along with his demands. They are power cells... and on another level... they are not just power cells."
Metal Man (GM): He smirks.
Digifanatic: "Not just power cells?"
Deloth: "I don't think we have much of a choice, unless Ian and Flaeyn can bust themselves out..."
John: "Such that he can use them to send your friends to us. And we can use them to track where they were held..."
Deloth: "And he won't notice?"
John: "He is ignorant of GPS tracking technology. He also is ignorant of power cells... that is, he can check the energy levels. But he can't check the software."
Dragoshi: "...I see."
John: "So it will send your friends back, and continue operating until it's been used in a teleporter, keyed to the one we'll be using... there's an outside chance he could send something other than them or repeatedly send the wrong thing using them, but... I doubt it."
Deloth: "Then I guess we don't have much of a choice."
John: "Once they have done their duty, they become highly explosive. Then if he uses them... well, there will be large explosions. If the minor risk is worth it, I think we can get started right now."
Deloth: "I'm up for it. What about you guys?"
Digifanatic: "Well, we've got to get out guys back some way."
John: "Once we get them back, we hear what they saw. See... they can tell us what's inside... so we know what to do when we storm it."
Dragoshi: "...If we get them back." :/
John: "Well, yes, but we've done this transfer many times. Trevor... yan... doesn't pull punches like that. Truth is, whatever he's going to use the cells for is probably more horrible than keeping them. We heard rumors that he stole a lot more than teleportation. Or, if nothing else, the rumors of investigation into interdimensional mayhem was... freakish. He's begun to act quite strange. The Trevor you met was more of a calm type. Now he seems to have become... extremely violent."
Deloth: "I can vouch for that." *points to his tattoo.*
John: "So... it's up to you." He points to the cells, and the transporters. "You guys move the cells when you're ready. Just be sure to pile them all up, and send them all at once."
Metal Man (GM): Someone is heard limping in the snow, off to the side.
Digifanatic: *looks outside.*
Metal Man (GM): ...it is Jack?
Dragoshi: *Glances in that direction...*
Digifanatic: "Whoa, think that's Jack."
Metal Man (GM): He leaps over. The men point their guns at him for a moment, realize it's him, then put them down.
Deloth: "...What are you doing here?"
Jack: "Ah... I can't help but overhear... why... those radios you have... have this tendency of being a bit easy to switch on and hard to turn off... Send stuff to this madman, you say? ...No... send me to him..."
Metal Man (GM): He chuckles.
Jack: "I have this staff... and I can kill him with one hit..."
Deloth: "We... kind of need our hostages alive."
John: "What? There isn't such a weapon..."
Metal Man (GM): John stares at the staff.
John: "...Although I do admit, it creeps me out."
Jack: "Ah, but he's expecting energy cells, not instant death."
Deloth: "Trust me. It can. He also happens to be a crackshot with a pistol, as I recall." *runs a hand over his headwings.*
Dragoshi: *Chuckles lightly.*
Jack: "I can then warp you in and we can storm the place. Of course... there could be a small chance of failure... but these energy cells could be used potentially even if you trap them. Do you not think he's expecting sneaky things like that? He cracked Borne's army in two."
John: "We have experience with him. He is not the one to suspect. He is poor with English."
Andrew: "He will be expecting the sneakiness, I agree."
Jack: "We should just give him what he deserves: Death and then the rest of his friends get a few ventilation holes."
Deloth: "...On the other hand, if we send Jack in, I can guarantee that not much will be left except small glowing piles of ash. Send us in with him and there won't be even THAT."
Jack: "Heck. We could double our chances. Send me in with the cells, then if all goes well, I call for the Questers to come in and finish the job. If I fail... he still has the cells. So he can't say we didn't accept his position. Heck, I could say I'm a new hostage. Right before blowing his head off with ancient death curses."
Deloth: "...I like your thinking."
John: "This isn't in the manual... I wouldn't suggest you do that... but... if you feel it is the way, it's your choice."
Jack: "I think if nothing else you'll want these energy cells at the transporter, eh?" He starts moving them over... for the Questers...
Metal Man (GM): Quite odd. Perhaps he hates Trevelyan because his men wouldn't buy the statue earlier. Which in turn is because the Questers said they didn't feel comfortable about it.
Deloth starts carrying them over as well. "I love having four extra arms."
Andrew: "It must be useful."
Metal Man (GM): The cells are stacked up. Jack sits next to them.
Jack: "So. If you want me to go, beam me up with that machine. If you don't... shove me away from the cells. I just crave the smell of burnt flesh."
Metal Man (GM): He leans on the energy cell pile and waits.
John: "He sounds almost as crazy as Agent Dark..."
Andrew: "We should take jack, just in case."
John: "It never seems to work for me, though."
Digifanatic: "Well, this should be an interesting plan."
Dragoshi: *Just sways back and forth slightly.* "That it should."
Deloth: "I'm all for sending him, myself, but I figure a consensus never hurt. Any more opinions?"
John: "Every time I did something like that, it was 'you're crazy, John. Stop trying to be Agent Dark.'"
Digifanatic: "Well, to be completely honest, this is not our first banzai plan."
Deloth: "I say we go for it. I like raids."
Jack: "Well, if you have no problems with it..." He points to the blinking 'SEND' button on the warp console.
Deloth: "This thing CAN send a human safely, correct?"
Jack: "You survived being sent through it. I heard it through the radio. What a racket."
Digifanatic: "Heh, true."
Deloth: *Pushes the button, Frank.*
Metal Man (GM): Cutscene: Trevelyan is underground, in a dank pit area. His base apparently goes a ways down here, bunker style. There's a teleporter. Also Aribar and Flaeyn, who are unconscious on the ground. And a single guard, packing twin laser pistols. His right arm is bloodied. He has multiple bruises and bandages. His left shoe is pretty much broken. And he is sort of leaning a bit to the side, obviously in pain.
Trevelyan: "If they take any longer, I WILL test my new invention on these hostages! I will need to warn them at this rate..."
Metal Man (GM): The teleporter lights up. 'RECEIVING' He stands back.
Trevelyan: "Now, if they believe what--"
Metal Man (GM): *SHOOMP* The energy cells appear... and so does Jack.
Trevelyan: "What the--"
Jack: "Eat death, prettyboy!"
Metal Man (GM): *ZOT.* The energy staff fires a beam at Trevelyan. He falls back and several explosions occur on his person... but then it bounces back and hits Jack! ...And Jack's staff reabsorbs it??? A shiny badge reveals itself on Trevelyan's chest.
Trevelyan: "I knew stealing this shiny artifact would save me some day. Guard! Kill the--"
Jack: "Oh no you don't!"
Metal Man (GM): *ZOT.* The guard is insta-killed.
Trevelyan: "I'll just take out my radio..."
Metal Man (GM): He takes it out. It's broken.
Jack: "I guess it's a fight, then, Mr. Cheatface."
Trevelyan: "You'll die sooner or later, mysterious attacker."
Metal Man (GM): Trevelyan lunges with a punch. Jack tries to counter with his staff. He punches Jack in the face. Jack backs off, then goes to club him over the head with the staff. Trevelyan gets hit in the head by the staff. They're pretty much even. Trevelyan hurls his dead gun at Jack's head. Jack is smacked dead-on in the noggin. Jack goes to stab Trevelyan in the face. He stabs the floor. Trevelyan backs away, and tries to kick Jack at the teleporter. He misses. Jack goes to hit the badge off Trevelyan's chest! *RIP* The badge flies off his chest and into the wall. It lands... on Aribar.
Jack: "Now who's your protector, you pansy?" The staff charges up. Trevelyan looks left and right.
Trevelyan: "Uh... that staff... you probably used all of its power..."
Jack: "Are you feeling lucky, idiot?"
Metal Man (GM): Trevelyan lunges at Jack, trying to get too close. Jack fires. Trevelyan is hit by the energy and disintegrates. Hm. And to think. Had the Questers given him the energy, they would have had to have fought him.
Jack: "Hmph. He was strong, but... ultimately not lucky."
Metal Man (GM): Jack fires up the machine and warps back with Flaeyn and Aribar. Back at the Ice Cave...
Metal Man (GM): The machine turns on... *BZAP* He appears, holding the two.
Deloth: "...now THAT'S efficiency."
Digifanatic: "Didja get him?"
Dragoshi: "...Mission accomplished?"
Jack: "Yes. We were almost perfectly matched. Nearly knocked my staff away... but the fact he ran into an attack killed him. He had some freakish badge."
Dragoshi: "...wow. And I thought he was smarter than that."
Digifanatic: "Oh? Freakish badge?"
Metal Man (GM): He looks at Aribar. He tries to pull it off, but it's stuck.
Digifanatic takes a look at the badge.
Dragoshi: *Shakes his head.* "Ah well. That's one more jerk out of the way."
Jack: "This shiny golden thing... he took a full blast o' death and didn't budge. It saved his life that time."
Digifanatic: "Oh wow."
Jack: "I had to rip it off. Luckily, it killed his devices. I also killed his guard."
Digifanatic: "Wonder where Trev got it from."
Deloth rubs his chin. "...That sounds familiar somehow."
Andrew: "It seems to have grabbed a hold of narrative casualty and will not let go."
Digifanatic: "Eh, Deloth?"
Jack: "Indeed." He looks to John. "I'll be taking payment for this."
Deloth walks over and looks at the badge.
John: "...You're as crazy as Agent Dark, all right."
Jack: "Now, I leave the looting of his facility to you. It looked kinda empty. And now that he's dead, nobody in their right mind will stay and fight."
Metal Man (GM): The badge says 'FRANKLIN BADGE.'
Digifanatic: "I bet."
Deloth: "...I knew it."
Metal Man (GM): It also says 'MOTHER 3'. Which makes no sense.
Dragoshi: "Knew what?"
Deloth: "...But then that makes no sense... he had a Franklin Badge. But where did HE get one from?"
John: "Interdimensional... research... It is possible that he contacted some other world."
Deloth: "...Of bloody course." *facepalms.*
John: "So he may be dead, but his base... probably explains what he did."
Jack: "Meh. I'll take my cash and leave. You guys can figure out what that's all about."
Metal Man (GM): He walks off as quick as he came. Strange.
John: "Er... we should probably revive them now."
Digifanatic: "Yeah. Good idea."
Metal Man (GM): He uses an advanced medical kit on both Aribar and Flaeyn, who wake up at full health. They were KO'd all this time... In fact, the last thing they'd remember is falling into the snow.
Aribar groans. He stiffly tries to sit up and look about.*
Deloth: "...Afternoon, guys. Enjoy your dirt nap?"
Aribar: "D-Deloth! Where's Trevor at?"
Dragoshi: "He died."
Digifanatic: "He is el dead."
Dragoshi: "Jack killed him. Killed him good."
Flaeyn jumps to his feet. "Augh... my head."
Aribar sits there for a moment and tries to process Trevor's death. He then says, "Ah, good." before flopping back down into the snow.
Deloth: "Oh, for the love of..." *grabs Ari by his collar and pulls him back to his feet.*
Andrew dumps snow down Ari's back.
Aribar: "Gah! Motion and coldness!" *Aribar is now a great deal more awake than he was a moment ago.*
John: "You can move on now... or you can investigate his base."
Deloth: "Are you going to pass out again?"
John: "Your shortcut apparently worked. By luck."
Dragoshi: "Hilariously good luck."
John: "Jack could have been killed instead. Then again, he was totally insane. He probably would have escaped some how... But the point is you got lucky this time. So you may well use it. One way or another... we'll pay you if you go inside and give us an investigation of it. It's probably still dangerous, and we don't have money to send our army into there... And you seem good at that, if you found this continent before anyone else."
Deloth hesitates. He's got plenty of cash, personally, but he doesn't know about the others...
John: "I'll be at the helicopter." He wanders off.
Aribar watches John walk off. The half-elf sighs and is glad that this episode is now over. He checks over his gear to ensure nothing was lost in the fall and notices the Franklin Badge pinned to his shirt. "Huh. Where did this come from?"
Deloth: "...I'm personally ready for a break, honestly..."
Andrew: "I am ready for whatever you decide."
Deloth: "Jack apparently knocked it off of Trevor and it got stuck to you."
Digifanatic: "Not sure. According to Jack, Trevelyan raided it from somewhere."
Aribar: "Interesting." *Aribar inspects the badge for a moment before letting it drop back down onto his shirt; he will have to decipher its meaning and powers later on.* "In any case, it is up to you people as to whether or not you want to raid Trevor's base; I'll follow in either case. I -do- wish to talk to the magician under Carrington's employ, though."
Dragoshi: "I'd say raid the base later and get the last statue now, but... that's just me."
Digifanatic: "Yeah, that statue was one of my priorities."
Flaeyn: "We'll probably need to do it as soon as possible..."
Deloth: "Then shall we go do that?"
Digifanatic: "I'd say so."
Flaeyn: "Well, lets get going."
Aribar starts towards the boat.
Digifanatic heads over to the boat.
Deloth gets on the boat, then. Here we go again.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers reach theirr boat. They see a shiny boat take off--that must be Jack's. Jack, that rich, kill-stealing bastard.
Digifanatic: "Oh no..."
Metal Man (GM): It's nice that Trevelyan is dead... but Jack seems to have made most of the profit. He's not going the way the Questers are, at least. In fact, he's going out into unexplored waters.
Deloth: "...I still wouldn't put it past him. Let's motor."
Digifanatic heads over to the loan boat and drives it over to the Carrington base once everyone's there.
Aribar: "You know, I hope that you made the right choice in killing Trevor; I hope that these Federalists aren't as evil as he is."
Dragoshi: "...Welp." *Enters the boat.*
Deloth: "I'm still really pissed at him playing me for a fool."
Digifanatic: *Goes to Port Royal.*
Aribar: "That is what a Quester does best; fight for a cause for a person they know nothing about."
Flaeyn: "Sounds depressing."
Digifanatic: "Nah, it's fun."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers slowly reach Port Royal. Things are much more calm here.
Digifanatic: "In a demented sort of fun."
Metal Man (GM): The way to the institute is clear.
Digifanatic: *parks the NOT SO NICE BOAT by the dock and hops off.*
Dragoshi: *Just follows behind.*
Deloth jumps off and stretches his legs, then heads to the Institute. "...I'm going to probably be beating a dead horse here, but I still wish I knew exactly what I was."
Digifanatic: "Oh yeah. Andrew wanted to talk to you about that, I think?"
Aribar follows behind the others. "You're Deloth."
Digifanatic: "Aribar, not now."
Deloth gives Ari an irritated look. "Very funny, wise guy."
Flaeyn follows from behind, and looks around. "Hm. Where is Andrew anyway?"
Aribar says nothing else; he realizes that he was being a bit inconsiderate.
Digifanatic: *walks into CI* "He was with us."
Flaeyn: "I mean, where is he now? I almost liked that guy."
Digifanatic: "I kinda did as well..."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers walk in. Johnathan Dark... beat them here.
John: "Oh. Do you need something?"
Digifanatic: .oO(Oh man.)
Flaeyn whispers to Digi. "Who's he?"
Deloth: "Uh... first, how did you get here before we did?"
John: "A helicopter."
Digifanatic: *whispers.* "One of the Feds, I believe."
John: "I saw you leave."
Flaeyn: "Who are the Feds again? You people keep mentioning it--yet I never know who they really are..."
Aribar: "We came here to collect our payment for the somewhat botched mission; the statue."
John: "Oh, right." He turns to Flaeyn. "The Federal Alliance. A group of people warped here... includes us... the people of Carrington Institute."
Metal Man (GM): He walks over to the statue.
Flaeyn: "Carrington Institute?"
John: "A group of people who investigate the paranormal and maintain peace. Even far away from home like this."
Metal Man (GM): He opens the statue case. The statue is there for the Questers to take.
Digifanatic: "Thank you, Agent Dark."
Dragoshi: *Takes that thar statue.*
???: "Oh. Hello. I don't think we've met." A voice is heard behind the Questers.
Deloth jumps and whirls around.
Aribar: "We also decided that, while in the future we may investigate Trevor's base, at the current time we will probably leave it alone." *The mage's voice trails off as he hears the greeting behind him; Aribar turns around.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers see... Doopliss?!?!
Dragoshi: *Turns around.* "...Hello."
Deloth: "...Oh, not you, I am NOT PUTTING UP WITH THIS SHIT AGAIN."
Flaeyn: "Hm..." He then turns around. "Oh, another friend of yours?"
Aribar looks at the sheet for a moment; wide-eyed and shocked by the sight of the Duplighost.
Deloth takes out both swords and whirls them around, getting ready to Cuisinart the stupid bedsheet ghost.
???: *Looks at Deloth like he is insane.* "I've been helping the... effort... here..."
Dragoshi: "...Don't mind him."
Digifanatic: "You are... ohhhhh maaan."
???: "The statue contains... ancient words... which I know because I usually live in a castle... until Mario killed me... and I found myself here... Please don't kill me."
Dragoshi: "He's... had bad experiences with a guy that looked kinda like you. Kinda."
Aribar: "Hello." *The half-elf says it slowly; he suspects that Doopliss does not recognize them, and he wonders if this bedsheet is the one who cast the spells from the statue.*
Deloth sighs and sheathes his weapons. Right, right, different world, different people, FUH he hates this job sometimes...
John: "I don't know what happened in your world, but Mr. Sheet here has been nothing but a help to us, and very, very afraid of being injured."
Deloth: "It's been a really, really, really long day and you look exactly like someone that used to kick us around for giggles."
Sheet: "Uh, yes... I am Mr. Sheet... I assume you had a bad experience with... someone else... you must know that Duplighosts look alike..."
Deloth: "My apologies." *Good thing he has fur on his face now. Hides the embarrassed blush he's got right now...*
Sheet: "I am not surprised if one of my brethren did something horrible. We are not predisposed to being nice. But after I had to run from a crazed man who was trying to destroy things with teleporters..."
Metal Man (GM): He shudders.
Aribar: "Were you the one who deciphered the writings and spell of the statue?"
Deloth: "The guy that just got shot and disintegrated?"
Sheet: "It was the least I could do to relate what he was doing, and read this statue. Ah. Yes, I was told you'd get the statue when he died."
Sheet: "I heard there were others. Could I see them?"
Flaeyn: "Hm. Why again?"
Sheet: "The statues... they were the hope of an ancient civilization. The fact I could read it means there is something a bit... more... to this world."
Flaeyn: "I guess we might as well show him the other statues?"
Sheet: "If there are more, it means an ancient civilization... was trying to build something... permanent."
Aribar stands back and lets the others decide; he is still standing aside with a intrigued expression unknowingly planted upon his face. He is wondering if 'Mr. Sheet' can be trusted or not.
Flaeyn obviously doesn't know Mr. Sheet, "Alright, lets get him to the other statues."
Aribar: "If I may put a condition on this visit, I would like to learn how to read the language of these statues; to share any knowledge that you know of them."
Digifanatic: "Okay, then. Let's head back." *walks to the boat.*
Flaeyn walks over as well.
Sheet: "I can show you what the language means." He follows.
Dragoshi: *Slowly follows behind.*
Deloth: "I'm beginning to think that this weird tattoo is some kind of weirdness magnet..." *follows along behind the others.*
Aribar follows the others. He keeps a close eye on Doopliss and wonders how terribly wrong this could go.*
Metal Man (GM): He follows the Questers. The Sheet guy seems different from the Doopliss you knew. He may even be someone else entirely. He doesn't say 'slick', and he... has no party hat. Or any hat. He does remind the Questers of Doopliss, if they squint.
Digifanatic: "Hey guys, do you think we should pick up Tails or something?"
Dragoshi: "I guess..."
Flaeyn: "Is he really needed? Lets just go..."
Deloth: "Sure. I like having his company."
Digifanatic: "Two against one so far."
Aribar: "Tails also knows a great deal about these ruins and the Statues."
Flaeyn shrugs. "You can go get him, I'm just saying he probably wouldn't be needed."
Digifanatic: "Eh, well, why not?" *heads over to Tails' lab.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers go on over... Tails is busy reading a note outside as they arrive.
Digifanatic: "Hang on." *steps out and waves to the fox.*
Aribar remains on the boat and watches from the railing.*
Tails: "Hm?" He looks up. "Oh. What's up?"
Digifanatic: "We got the last statue and we think you could help us in examining them together. It is better off considering once we get back to the temple the full set would be there."
Tails: "...Well... you went through all the effort... so I'll come." He walks aboard. "I've nearly found Sonic. So maybe you can help me with that, next."
Digifanatic: "Oh, Sonic... that's nice to hear."
Tails: "You won't believe it... but... statues first."
Deloth keeps a suspicious eye on Mr. Sheet while all this is going on...
Metal Man (GM): Mr. Sheet is waiting for the Questers to get there. He seems somewhat bored.
Digifanatic: *steps back on and waits for Tails to get in.*
Metal Man (GM): Tails is now aboard. The Questers depart... for THE ISLAND.
Deloth looks up confusedly. "Did you guys just hear thunder?"
Deloth: "...must have been a wave." *leans back.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers arrive... at THE ISLAND. The entrance to the island is right there.
Digifanatic: *Slows the boat down a little bit and takes a look up, considering the cockpit it outside.*
Metal Man (GM): Digi looks up. Nothing.
Digifanatic: "It's either you... or an explosion."
Dragoshi: "..." *Just gets off the boat and goes to the island. A-yep.*
Digifanatic: "Dragoshi, still have the statue?"
Deloth: "...Whatever. Let's just haul this thing in."
Dragoshi: "Yea. I do."
Aribar steps off of the boat and onto the island. He heads into the Temple.
Deloth: "Want me to carry it?"
Flaeyn: "I'll do it."
Metal Man (GM): Mr. Sheet follows. As does Tails.
Deloth just heads into the Temple, then. Mneh.
Metal Man (GM): There's an empty gap.
Flaeyn goes to carry the statue, quite easily by himself.
Metal Man (GM): Mr. Sheet reads the other statues...
Digifanatic: *heads in.*
Dragoshi: *Blinks as Flaeyn takes the statue and enters the temple.*
Sheet: "Hm... apparently... an ancient race lived on this planet... and knowing they would eventually die... they created the statues to bring peace. The statues were originally in place here... for... some reason..."
Aribar stands beside the Duplighost and tries to learn the language.*
Sheet: "Hm... no... They were here... to maintain... the thing we're standing on."
Flaeyn: "I would guess they used to be markers, or signals of some sort. Maybe light from a light tower-like building would shine here and reflect onto the gems, revealing a secret image." *overexamining things.*
Sheet: "So... if you put that one in... it'll reactivate maintenance... but how long have they been missing?"
Deloth: "How about let's just put this on the slot and see what happens, Flaeyn."
Tails: "Eggman stole them a while ago to start his crimes..."
Flaeyn goes to do so. "He probably didn't know about it though."
Tails: "Ever since then, we had no peace on our continent... GUN was formed to stop Eggman... Eggman was stopped... but there was no peace."
Tails: "So I'd assume putting it back in would be best."
Digifanatic: "Well, I say put the last one in and let's see what happens."
Metal Man (GM): The Sheet guy is pointing at each 'word' as he translates.
Julian: *So Julian's there now. Yeah. As his RPer was busy making sprite ads instead of roleplaying, Julian decides it's better not to ask questions as some point and watches as Aribar does whatever.*
Metal Man (GM): Aribar instantly comprehends it enough that he can just spend a bit of time staring to read this language from now on.
Julian: *Julian has that skeleton. But it's not a statue.*
Dragoshi: *Used to have it, but Flaeyn took it.*
Metal Man (GM): Flaeyn placed it earlier, right. It sits there for a moment.
Aribar has a moment of enlightenment; in a moment he understands the language of the statues. The half-elf hastens to the various statues and tries to decipher their message, if it is different from Mr. Sheet's translation.
Deloth crouches a bit...
Metal Man (GM): Like Aribar, Mr. Sheet has to... spend some time to figure things out.
Digifanatic: *also ducks a little bit.*
Metal Man (GM): Aribar sees that the translation is mostly correct. Though a little incomplete. It also notes that if the statues are returned, they will not be able to fully revive what was lost, but will need 'help' to fully do so. Indeed. All that happens is a slight glow and the door at the end of the hallway opening, revealing a stairway to what must be a temple below.
Digifanatic: "It's a start."
Sheet: "Hm... yes... there is no way the statues could just magically repair the damage this island must have taken."
Deloth: "I would've expected a few more laser beams."
Deloth makes for the stairs.
Digifanatic: *Might as well.*
Aribar waits for the hallway to open before stating his discovery. "From what I can read, the statues will try to revive this place, but they'll need help to return the temple to its former glory."
Dragoshi: *Down, down, down, to the bottom of the temple! Or something.*
Aribar follows the others.
Flaeyn follows after the others.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers walk down, and see an ancient temple. The statues were merely heralds for the excellence down here. Great statues of many events... all ancient. Mostly toga-clad individuals of various types. Human, mobian... there are some Mario and Zelda creatures, too. Water has been draining for a while; the floor's still wet.
Digifanatic: "Okay, what the heck?"
Deloth: "Looks like we hit the Hall of Heroes down here."
Digifanatic: "This isn't just a Mobius shrine..."
Flaeyn: "Interesting. I remember someone mentioning this to me from heaven..."
Julian: "Some kinda ancient museum. Keep a move on."
Sheet: "Hm... these statues and things seem to indicate that this place was an a more connected place in the past."
Deloth keeps heading down the hall.
Digifanatic: "Ah..." *keeps going.*
Aribar continues onwards. The half-elf wonders about what sort of mystery they've stumbled onto.
Metal Man (GM): At the end of it all, there is a very large plaque, and an image... of things coming from the sky.
Sheet: "Uh... meteorites... hit the world... then people became bad. Apparently."
Tails: "Those look like the chaos emeralds."
Digifanatic: *takes a closer look.*
Metal Man (GM): It's a worn inscription. Without the statues to protect it, many words have rusted away.
Julian: "...Well shit."
Deloth: "I thought the Emeralds were more of a 'it's the person who uses them' thing."
Julian: "'Sit gonna happen again?"
Digifanatic: "Do you think this mural was a prophecy or a history?"
Sheet: "It's... obviously a history."
Digifanatic: "Hey, I don't know."
Flaeyn: "I believe history. Then again, history repeats itself."
Sheet: "This is... sort of a hall of memories, to prevent it from being lost. Something... was... found... which they put at the very bottom of this temple... to preserve the peace from their time. It... is broken from there on. It doesn't say how."
Metal Man (GM): The large plate of bronze this is carved into looks old and has a hole or two in it.
Digifanatic: "Well, this room is kinda neat. I just wonder how we can restore this temple... if it's even possible at this point."
Julian: "So's it good or bad? We gotta destroy it or recover it?"
Flaeyn: "Some sort of beast? Or a means of transportation to another realm or room--which holds their deepest treasure?"
Aribar: "Was the thing they stored an evil which they sealed away for peace, or something that was peaceful?"
Metal Man (GM): There are statues around it, showing what must have been early barbarians.
Julian: "None'a the above?"
Digifanatic: *takes a look at these statues.*
Sheet: "The evil? No. They preserved some sort of peace... down there."
Tails: "It would make sense, because even though bad existed before Eggman..."
Metal Man (GM): He holds his hands out to the sides.
Tails: "It got REALLY bad once he stole these statues."
Digifanatic: "Sounds right."
Deloth: "Any idea on how to get down from here, then?"
Dragoshi: *Searches for something of interest... such as trapdoors, not-so-obvious buttons, stuff like that.*
Flaeyn: "We could always go the primitive way--drill down. Though, I don't recommend it."
Digifanatic: "I wouldn't, either."
Metal Man (GM): The statues are all rather old. Some have fallen into pieces. Dragoshi would find the hole-filled plaque intriguing. As it is about the height of a person.
Dragoshi: "Hmmm..." *Looks at the hole-filled plaque... and decides to poke in the holes, for the sake of curiosity.*
Flaeyn: "Hm." He gets a pebble off the ground, and chucks it down the hole, then tries to listen in on how far down the drop is.
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi pokes a finger in the hole. It's a little bit cooler behind the plaque.
Julian: *Looks in one of the holes.*
Metal Man (GM): The rock bounces off marble behind the plaque and bounces off a... spring. It's dark in there. Yes-sirree.
Digifanatic: "Hang on..." *looks to the sides of the plaques to see if there's some revolving door-type mechanism or whatnot. *
Julian: "Think there's somethin' back here..." *tries moving the plaque.*
Metal Man (GM): Julian looks; but when he presses on it, he sees it can be pushed. Like a giant switch.
Digifanatic: "Oh, well there we go."
Flaeyn tries to use Sereharde as a light source to look through it.
Metal Man (GM): There is a spring mechanism, and apparently a cog. It needs to be pushed back to trigger. It's like an antikytheras mechanism. Extremely complex series of cogs.
Julian: "Someone gimme a stick."
Digifanatic looks for a stick.*
Metal Man (GM): No sticks in here.
Deloth just starts pushing the plaque. "There IS a thing as being too cautious, y'know."
Metal Man (GM): Deloth pushes it all the way back. *Click.*
Tails: "Uh, I--"
Metal Man (GM): *SPROING.*
Julian: *Steps awa-SPROING.*
Metal Man (GM): It springs back, launching everyone backwards.
Metal Man (GM): They then land on a tile... hard.
Dragoshi: *OH NO.*
Metal Man (GM): *CLICK.*
Metal Man (GM): Gears slowly lower from the ceiling and begin clanking.
Digifanatic: "Uh oh..."
Flaeyn: "There's such thing called stupidity, you know."
Julian: "Man, what the hell was that?"
Metal Man (GM): A completely mechanical elevator lowers from the ceiling, as a hole in the floor opens.
Deloth: *dizzily.* "I claim this land... for SPAIN!"
Julian: "An elevator."
Metal Man (GM): It then sits there.
Dragoshi: *Walks over to the elevator.*
Julian: "So..." *Elevator!*
Deloth: "...oh, hey, I did it--I mean... toldja it would work."
Digifanatic takes a walk to the elevator.
Deloth gets up and gets into the elevator. Quickly.
Sheet: "The elevator says..." He looks at a plaque on it. "It will go down when you first step on it, then up afterwards, alternating. It only goes down one floor. Apparently it was an exciting thing to have back then. ...And pushing the plaque calibrated it to all our weight... so it knows when to go."
Julian: "...They coulda just put in, y'know, stairs."
Sheet: "These people were quite intelligent... and had a lot of free time."
Flaeyn: "Seriously, stairs are pretty nice..." He steps in the elevator.
Tails: "The ancients are strange... strange people."
Julian: "No duh."
Metal Man (GM): The elevator clanks and goes down into the next floor. It slowly moves down to the bottom, revealing the guts of the temple... for down here is many, many cogs. They run an imperceptible machine. An indicator, which shows 20 mini-statues, shows all the statues are in. There is a mysterious switch on the wall near it. The inscription for what it does has rotted off. Not all the cogs work, either.
Sheet: "Hm. It's a great machine. But..." *Shrug.* "Perhaps we should use some magic on this problem."
Julian: "So what's it do? Can't help ya there."
Tails: "Well, the ancients specialized in... mechanical technology... and magic... and I don't know anything of the latter, and little of the former."
Aribar: "I think that the place is in disrepair due to the Statues being missing for a while. Magic? I can summon up a variety of elemental auras and I know a protective spell or two, but that is it."
Flaeyn: "Well." He looks to Aribar. "It's all yours, good luck."
Deloth: "Sorry, all I can do is make things explode and fling around light and dark. Probably not much of a help."
Digifanatic: "I wonder what the switch does?"
Sheet: "Everything had a description plate for it. Maybe we should look for another one."
Deloth: *Search for a backup plate!*
Metal Man (GM): Deloth nearly trips over one, walking into a corner. It's big... heavy... and loaded with words.
Julian: *Ain't readin' it.*
Aribar: *Is reading it.*
Deloth rubs his stubbed toe. "Found it."
Digifanatic: *notices Deloth.* "I think we might need one of our--there ya go."
Metal Man (GM): Aribar begins chanting the 'Death to intruders' thing heard earlier. Nothing happens.
Sheet: "It's a... magic spell. I think you need to read it differently."
Julian: "...Don' think that's what it says. Looks pretty big fo' just that."
Sheet: "Yeah... it's a very large spell."
Deloth: "Here, lemme try."
Metal Man (GM): Aribar AND Deloth recite the spell. Mr. Sheet joins in as well. The entire place shakes violently as the group begins to see the damage dealt to this place... magically melt away.
Deloth: "...Holy cow."
Metal Man (GM): It also changes all the plaques... to be English, instead of weird gibberish. Except for the spell plaque.
Julian: "Huh." *Can read stuff now.*
Metal Man (GM): The plaque, however, does have more words on it, which do become English.
Deloth bends down and reads the rest of the plaque.
Metal Man (GM): "The spell has been reactivated. This temple has been rebuilt. But the object which made peace... is missing."
Dragoshi: *Joins in with the plaque reading.*
Julian: *Read that shit, son!* "So... Where's it at?"
Deloth looks over at the switch's plaque, assuming it's here now.
Sheet: "Beats me."
Digifanatic: "Yeah... that plaque is veeeeeeery ambiguous."
Metal Man (GM): The switch allows Deloth to switch modes on the elevator. 'Off' 'Two floors' 'Three floors' It's set to 'Two floors.'
Digifanatic looks at the skeleton Julian's been carrying to make sure it is or isn't acting "funny."
Metal Man (GM): The skeleton is mundane. Still.
Deloth: *Three floors, mofo.* "Everyone. Back on the elevator, there's another floor."
Metal Man (GM): Deloth switches it on. The elevator is ready to be used... yet it isn't going to go down.
Deloth steps back into the elevator.
Julian: *Top floor. Only the best can come of this!*
Aribar: *Goes to oilyvator.*
Digifanatic: *heads over.*
Dragoshi: *Enters the elevator.*
Metal Man (GM): It moves back up, and there are... the five stones floating above the statues, which now have a complete poem on them which basically is about preserving all that is good.
Flaeyn heads in.
Metal Man (GM): The five stones make an energy-based image. It shows a wrecked space station. It then shows a mysterious, glowing power at the center of the station. It also shows a glimpse of Sonic. On the station.
Tails: "..." He stares at it in disbelief.
Sheet: "Hm. I think we revived a sort of... oracle."
Aribar: "It seems as if Sonic is in space?"
Tails: "Apparently... but... we have no space shuttle..."
Deloth: "What's Sonic doing up THERE, anyways?"
Metal Man (GM): It shows Jack... and the now unsubmerged Egg Carrier.
Digifanatic: "Good question."
Julian: "So we'll have to get one."
Sheet: "Well, I guess if we just keep staring, this thing will tell us what to do. Myself, I think I shall go report this to Carrington Institute. So as to help protect it."
Tails: "Protect it?"
Sheet: "Just because Trevor is dead doesn't mean his men, or other people, will seek to either steal the statues or misuse this."
Dragoshi: "Well, there prolly' would be some people that would like to abuse this thing... Like those jerks."
Aribar: "If this thing is hinting at solutions to our problems, then I wonder." *The mage's voice trails off and he begins to wonder where their fearless leader is at.*
Sheet: "We could just as easily open this up and cause more chaos... Eggman must have broken in here somehow." He looks up. "It's too bad it won't tell us about that."
Flaeyn: "Let's just leave it be..."
Metal Man (GM): An image of a faraway continent flashes on the image. It appears to be far West.
Deloth: "...Why'd it change?"
Tails: "I don't know."
Julian: "Bam!" *Points as the image.* "Anyone else just see that?"
Flaeyn: "Hm, I did."
Sheet: "It's an oracle. It answers what it can. Except my query. Probably because it doesn't know... the other world."
Digifanatic: "That is interesting."
Metal Man (GM): Sure enough, it doesn't answer the Sheet's question... implied or not.
Sheet: "We ghosts have the privilege of touring ruins. Ancient peoples would allude to humans who would give hints like this. But never... magical machines."
Julian: "Think we found our next destination. Maybe we can find a spaceship there. If it exists."
Tails: "Well... it's beyond my knowledge. I'll just make sure to keep people away."
Dragoshi: "Good idea."
Flaeyn: "It must be pretty good living as a ghost."
Sheet: "Yeah. The only problem is people like Mario. He thinks all ghosts are evil. I guess I'm lucky I got sent here when he attacked me."
Aribar tries to think of Kuja. The half-elf also wonders what the ex-god is doing.
Digifanatic takes one more look at the screen to see if there's a bit more information about the continent out west. He thinks about what they may have to deal with, what sort of terrain it is, etc.
Deloth: "...I'm really tempted to find out what Alexia's up to..."
Julian: *Picks up on what the others are doing, and thinks very hard at the screens about the continent to the west.*
Metal Man (GM): No answer. Kuja must not be in this realm. Digi would see the continent out west is sketchy. But he can see if he kept going he'd find it. It's sort of mountainous.
Aribar shudders at the mention of Alexia.
Metal Man (GM): The continent pops up again and again with all the references to the continent being thought of. Even to this it is hazy, however... Limited scrying distance.
Julian: *And done.* "Anyone else got anything they wanna ask the Magic Wall?"
Digifanatic: "Okay, lot of mountains... I'm good."
Tails: "You could probably reach whatever that is without much difficulty... just a bit of a voyage."
Digifanatic: "Can't get over one coffee rush, huh, Aribar?"
Dragoshi: "Sure, why not. 'Sides, I've been kinda wondering where the heck that robot is, anyway..." *Referring to the Eggrobo.*
Flaeyn: "Hm. I'm wondering what the Netherworld's been up to."
Aribar: "Alexia still scares me."
Metal Man (GM): Nothing appears on the screen.
Deloth: "...Ari, why?"
Flaeyn: "Well then, what the answer to life, the universe, and everything?" *player wonders if the GM gets the referance.*
Metal Man (GM): Dice appear on the monitor. They show 4 and 2.
Julian: "Good enough for me."
Aribar: "She's just very," *the mage tries to think of the word for a moment.* "Crazy after having a few cups of coffee."
Dragoshi: "...Yea, I suppose so."
Flaeyn: "Thought so."
Aribar tries to think of the question of the life, universe, and everything.
Metal Man (GM): The thing continues to display 4 and 2.
Deloth: "Eh. She can't handle caffeine."
Dragoshi: "...so the question is the answer. got it."
Dragoshi: *Tries to think of where that Eggrobo could be. Yanno, the one that asked for that big ol' Chaos Drive that took like, 4 or so people to carry?*
Metal Man (GM): It shows the Eggrobo. Still waiting. In the Final Egg base.
Flaeyn: "What is, the square root of god?"
Julian: "I think we're done here."
Flaeyn: "I actually don't mind staying here and playing twenty questions..." He coughs.
Metal Man (GM): It shows extremely complex mathematical signs Flaeyn can't understand, which form words when he looks at them further away. The words say 'No U.'
Digifanatic: "...maybe later."
Aribar starts to leave the temple; one of them has to start to leave for the others to follow. The mage is a bit disappointed; he was hoping to find the path to the Pure Element here. Then the half-elf stops and realizes how silly he's being. "Magic image on the wall, do you know where the secret of the Pure Element is hidden?"
Julian: *Outta here.*
Metal Man (GM): It shows the library in Capital City... and the number 182. Apparently, just a clue.
Aribar thanks the image for some odd reason before leaving.
Flaeyn leaves, despairingly but knows he'll be left behind if he doesn't.
Metal Man (GM): Strangely, it gives an answer to Flaeyn's unvoiced question. It shows an image of skeletons next to the statues... that people have died asking it until they starved to death.
Deloth sighs, then... "All I want to know is... is she doing okay?"
Dragoshi: *Just follows the others.*
Metal Man (GM): No answer to Deloth. She must not be in this realm.
Tails: "Drop me off at my lab, I'll take the weird guy you have with you home for you... as I assume he came from elsewhere."
Flaeyn: "Hm." He looks towards the screen, then walks off to the others.
Sheet: "Yes... I would like to get back."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers are on the boat now.
Deloth grouses and walks out of the room. Figures.
Julian: *On the boat.*
Deloth: *On the boat, then.*
Digifanatic: *takes the helm and starts to drive the boat back to Tails' place.*
Deloth: "One freaking question and it didn't know."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers go to Tails' place. He gets off and waves. As does Mr. Sheet.
Julian: "So... West?"
Flaeyn scratches his head. "Why again?"
Digifanatic: "Apparently over there is a way we can get to the space station where Sonic is."
Julian: "'Cause there's something there."
Aribar: "Our leader, Metal Man, may also be there."
Julian: "Dunno what, but it's something."
Digifanatic: "Oh? Is that what you asked it?"
Dragoshi: "...Welp, I'm outnumbered." :/
Flaeyn: "Riiggght..." He says, non-sarcastically.
Dragoshi: *Kinda wanted to go to the re-raised Egg Carrier so that the lot of them could be, yanno... not screwed out of a good profit this time.* :/
Aribar: "Of course, I also want to head back to the Mobius mainland and to Capital City. "
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi has the image of Jack and mounds of gold. Indeed, he makes Wario look like a joke. Anyway, Digi is at the controls...
Digifanatic: "Capital City?"
Julian: *Doesn't have a shit to give.*
Digifanatic: "Well, since we're not too far off, I guess we can make a quick stop."
Dragoshi: "Sure, why not."
Aribar: "It is a selfish wish; the images shown made me think that there may be a clue to a very powerful magic spell hidden there."
Digifanatic: *drives the boat over to CC instead.*
Aribar: .oO(One that I doubt I could control if I got my hands on it.)
Digifanatic: "No, no, no, if you think you can find something like that that can help us, we should give you that chance."
Deloth: *still grumbling a bit.* "One question and it couldn't answer it, mumble mumble..."
Metal Man (GM): The Questers go towards the mainland, passing up what seems to be the un-submerged Egg Carrier on the way.
