Super Smash Quest² - Story - Chapter 24: Three Errands
Date: December 3rd, 5th, & 6th 2008.
Metal Man (GM): After a while, Jack walks over to the group, who has also fully healed while sitting around.
Jack: "So... come to a decision? Me or you. I'll accept ONE observer. No more."
Deloth: *sitting in a corner, shivering.*
Jack: "Otherwise you may well do it yourselves. I know your tendencies to interfere in everything. That is how it shall be, so, either nominate an observer or go it as a group..." He points at Deloth. "But even if you did, one of your men is in no shape to go, and I know you prefer to travel as a group. So I think the choice is obvious enough, but I'll listen to what your choice is."
Aribar: "Someone wants us to go over there. I have no idea whether we should or not."
Metal Man (GM): He leans back, a sly grin on his pock-marked face.
Garrick sighs and pats his pockets. He wanted like mad for a smoke, but tobacco wasn't the most abundant thing in this world...
Jack: "And, if I were to choose, your newly returned member would be my choice. He seems to understand more than most of you due to his... circumstances."
Garrick: "Look, I'll go with you, just cause I'm interested to see if you're as good as you say you are. I could use the practice and I need to get some more ammo for my pistol anyway, if you could CALL this a pistol..."
Aribar: "It seems as if we're being split up now; Panzer wants to go south, Continia is in danger, and Deloth needs a vacation." .oO(And I want to go to the Mushroom Kingdom.)
Garrick: "I doubt we're going to be there for very long. Besides, if we're gonna help this place, we need to get goin' now."
Metal Man (GM): Panzer is STILL working on that ship. Contrary to her expectations, it was messed up. Simply put, Red Text didn't want it going anywhere.
Aribar: "If you think that the two of you can manage an army and stop the invasion, then I suppose the two of you should go."
Dragoshi: "Yeeeaaa..." *Sighs.*
Garrick: "Look, I can fly this bucket easy." *jabbing his thumb back at the ship they rode in on.* "If anything bad goes down, I'll just fly right back. I'm going. If you guys wanna come, get on, but if not, stay here. Simple as that."
Garrick turns to Jack, sweeping one hand at the ship. "After you."
Aribar: "Good luck, Garrick. I think I will stay here; if nothing else, someone must look after Deloth."
Jack: "One observer, no more. If even one more person comes on then they're going to have to do it, not me." He's oddly persistent about that. "So, with that, we should go."
Aribar: "Jack, I must say that you sound awfully suspicious with that statement."
Garrick makes over to the medical supplies that the guys found earlier and grabs a few.
Metal Man (GM): There's one left, the rest were used to heal Garrick earlier.
Jack: "Well, it's for a good reason. One Quester, especially a new one, is likely to help me. Two are likely to argue amongst themselves while the ship is crashing. Three... well, that's two of them arguing while the third gleefully destroys the ship from within."
Garrick straps it to his belt and stands, checking over his pistol before heading to the ship.
Jack: "You should know this... the ones who activated the evil statues, for example..."
Garrick: "You'll find I'm the type to get things done rather than just argue about it constantly."
Jack: "So, we shall go." He walks over to the Egg Carrier... which is actually still in the hangar. A single warp away.
Metal Man (GM): Garrick and Jack are soon out of earshot. Garrick warps to the hangar, where Jack then turns to look to him.
Jack: "Now, this will be a simple battle. It's an army with some mechs and helicopters."
Metal Man (GM): He points to the Egg Carrier.
Jack: "This thing is extremely large and powerful. In fact, we won't need to supervise it much. The robots aboard can aim and destroy the opposition for us. Therein lies the actual dirty work."
Garrick grunts slightly, folding his arms over his chest. "Then what exactly are we going to be doing?"
Jack: "See... there's a reason I didn't want more than one Quester with me. The Hydra group, as they are called, have been formed in the aftermath of Quester work."
Garrick arches his eyebrow. "What did they do this time? ...or we do, I suppose."
Jack: "Although the glue that holds them together, I hear, is something else entirely, we have on one side leftover corrupt GUN members and on the other an apparent remaining portion of a guy called Trevor's forces. Basically, the Questers harmed these people's groups and didn't kill them off for good. A third mystery man brought them together and now we have them all together to fight. Our luck is good, in that we have discovered one of the leaders will be in proximity of the fighting itself. In simple terms we use the Egg Carrier to fight their army, then intercept and kill the leader."
Garrick: "...remind me. GUN? "
Jack: "GUN... basically, the civil enforcement people of this continent with the hedgehogs and people and stuff. They're shadowy people who usually keep to themselves. But this one guy, Borne, terrorized the continent after becoming convinced the Questers were in alliance with the Echidna cultists to take it over."
Garrick: "...huh. Fair enough."
Jack: "The Questers destroyed Borne and his main force by hiring Trevor. Trevor, in turn, abused their trust and obtained some freakish teleportation technology."
Garrick frowned, pondering that..
Jack: "Trevor, who turned out to be a spy named Trevelyan. They iced him too. But then they decided not to wreck his base."
Garrick: "And someone got the technology."
Jack: "And they had given him crucial information to finish his teleporter... during which he had a little time to complete it, before he fought me and died. They sent me to kill him, of course. It is feasible Trevor's henchmen completed it or took it away to a safe place. The result? The teleporter allowed access to the mystery person."
Garrick: "...you mean this red text guy?"
Jack: "No. I don't even know who that is. I hear he's some benefactor or something, but it seems like some over-imaginative idea than a person."
Garrick nods a few times, pondering a little more before. "...alright, we'll gather some info while we're out here."
Jack: "So we go in and destroy this mess, and as a result we can let them rest, and Continia can be in peace."
Garrick: "Then let's get going."
Garrick makes for the Egg Carrier, grunting at it as he heads up the gang plank. "Damn Robotnik and his fruity names for crap..."
Metal Man (GM): Jack walks up the plank and the ship begins to start up. There's a bridge, it's a bit small, but it works.
Garrick heads up to it, then, looking over the instruments.
Metal Man (GM): They're weird. Buttons, levers... Eggman was a man who studied the steam age and decided for some reason the old controls were better.
Garrick: "Wonderful. Frickin' Robotnik..."
Jack: "Well, Robotnik was a pragmatist, just in a weird way."
Metal Man (GM): There's a big red Auto-pilot button.
Garrick glances it over, then presses.
Jack: "The robots told me how to use it."
Metal Man (GM): It waits for coordinates to be entered.
Jack: "The area of Continia we want is at 30, 1."
Metal Man (GM): There's a simple numpad to enter coordinates with. It's a primitive Cartesian style thing, with altitude adjusted elsewhere.
Garrick: "Fair enough." *punches the information in.*
Metal Man (GM): It slowly floats up. The Questers would see it fly off as well.
Garrick: "I just never cared for his style."
Jack: "Neither do I. When we're through I'll see about having that fixed..."
Metal Man (GM): The ship begins flying towards Continia. It's a large continent, filled with a mixture of topographies. And a large city, which is under attack by a massive army.
Jack: "We'll soon be under attack by helicopters. Not to worry. Helicopters are a joke to this thing. The tricky part will be when we get off near the enemy base and search for their leader."
Garrick: "Best thing to do would be to either rappel or parachute out behind their lines... get nice and low and do it fast."
Aribar looks up at the Egg Carrier. He hopes that Garrick will come back safely.
Jack: "Yeah... there's a sort of hang glider thing. Yes. Hang gliders. Eggman doesn't believe in parachutes. I'm going to get that fixed too."
Garrick: "...well, I suppose that will work..."
Metal Man (GM): The ship is nearly there. Garrick hears static on the radio.
???: "Can... ear... you hear... ca... hear... can you hear me?"
Garrick glances to it, going over and making to check it out, clear up the signal if there is one to clear up. *click.* "Unknown source, identify yourself."
Jack: "You talk to that, I've got to..." *sigh.* "make the hang glider be ready." He walks off.
Dr. Robotnik: "Psst. A certain person doesn't want me to be able to talk to you. But I couldn't help notice you're in the Egg Carrier... and this radio is analog. That... guy... can't change it. You're being sent in to a trap. Not to... er... harm you but... further the motives of someone else."
Garrick: "...oh, son of a bitch... And just who is that?" .oO(Frickin' Robotnik..)
Dr. Robotnik: "And I'm trapped myself... and... I know you won't believe me, but... the only way out is if you..." He pauses, thinking how to answer that other question. "The... red... text person. They don't even reveal who they are to me. They wanted everyone to think I was dead, and... I think they only let me out because of that... anomaly. ...Who else is with you on the Egg Carrier?"
Garrick: "...this Jack person... and your bots. Listen, Ivo, explain the only way out fast before you crackle out or osmething. I hate cliche's."
Dr. Robotnik: "..." He coughs. "The Jack person? He... he is in the employ of that man. You can't fight him. You need to... accidentally... launch him into the battle... and fly away in the Egg Carrier. Then type in EGG MAN RULZ into the computer to override Red Text. He'll find out. I'm sure. He'll want to make you go. Trick you. If you override it then I can send more... covert signals. This signal is a one time thing, I'm afraid... I tricked him into checking out an anomalous radio signal elsewhere, so he isn't listening on all channels."
Garrick: "...give me one solid reason to trust you, Ivo."
Dr. Robotnik: "The Red Text made the Questers rebuild this ship. He wanted the Oracle. HE wanted repairs to the Super Death Egg. The Questers are in his employ. Jack is in his employ. You may not like me, and I may not like you, but if that person is killed... Red Text will profit yet more, and I suspect it is not long before he uses my inventions... MY inventions... to take over the world himself! Hm. He has sent me a message indicating his search has found nothing. Afraid I can answer you only one more time before I have to turn the radio off."
Metal Man (GM): Jack is approaching. He appears to have finished the work. He is covered in cobwebs.
Garrick: "...we've busted up your crap before, Robotnik. In your hands or out. We'll take care of it. And if this Jack guy is bad news, I'll take care of him myself. And you, if the situation occurs." *click off.*
Jack: "Odd that you talk to static. They can't hear you. The people on that continent down below... anyway. ...The glider is ready, and we shall be entering the combat zone..." *Explosion outside.* "Now."
Garrick: "Then lets get to it. After you."
Jack: "Of course."
Metal Man (GM): He walks over, leading Garrick down towards a low part of the ship. Where Garrick would leave the ship, of course.
Garrick walks after him, keeping a good eye on his hands and that spear...
Metal Man (GM): He reaches down to a red and yellow glider, with the Eggman logo on it, and a launching mechanism. He looks at it, then to the hand holding his spear.
Jack: "Hm. This will be tricky... but I have to take my spear. Oh, of course."
Metal Man (GM): He attaches it to the glider's handlebar.
Garrick nods a bit to himself...
Jack: "Now, here's how it goes. We have to drop off of this quickly, as it's a huge target. So no hand restraints. I know that sounds dangerous, but hang gliding into a warzone with them on is even more dangerous. We'll be going in low and slow. For some reason we've managed to catch the enemy troops by surprise."
Garrick: "Fair enough. I've done stupider stuff before... I'll be on your tail."
Jack: "Once we both have a good grip on this, I'll press this switch." He points to a big hanging switch on the left. He even walks over to it.
Garrick: "...ah, just one. Fair enough."
Jack: "Of course, there is only one glider, so... I'll hold the right side, and you the left. So..." He walks over and holds onto the hand thing. "When you're ready."
Metal Man (GM): This is almost picture perfect to either get on and go or cause him to fly out prematurely. Jack is an impatient person... he waits.
Garrick eyes this... pondering... then sighs and makes to settle in beside him.
Metal Man (GM): Left side is the only free side. Garrick walks over and settles in.
Jack: "So... ready?"
Garrick: "Ready as I ever will be... hit it."
Jack: "Okay then." He moves to hit the switch. It takes a moment, as a count-down thing warns of the impending opening.
Metal Man (GM): 3... 2...
Jack: "Stupid Eggman machines."
Metal Man (GM): 1. *SHOOMP* The way down opens, and the hang glider goes down. It is launched diagonally downwards.
Garrick grips the bar, grunting as they hit the open air...
Metal Man (GM): For a normal person using no hand guard might be instantly fatal, but Garrick's a Quester; holding on is no problem. Jack... well, to be honest, nobody seems to know what Jack is, especially with how he behaves. Below, an army of soldiers is being attacked by lasers and missiles. They are in no condition to shoot the glider. On the other hand... a helicopter appears! It floats after the hang glider.
Jack: "I'll get that, if you don't object." *PSHEEEW* A missile flies overhead, barely missing the glider.
Garrick grunts as he glances behind him, then to Jack. "Yeah, like I'm going to take it out with a pea-shooter. DO it, man."
Jack: "Let's see... how to use the staff without killing us both... oh, yeah."
Metal Man (GM): Jack idly swings and grabs the staff, flying off mid-air. He then turns around mid-air. The helicopter pilot stairs in disbelief at him for a moment, but that's all he gets. A turquoise beam fires from the staff. *ZOT.* *BOOOOOOM.* Jack then falls back to the glider, grabbing on with one hand and slowly replacing the staff.
Jack: "I'm going to hate myself tomorrow morning."
Garrick: "Show off."
Jack: "Of course." As he says that, Garrick would notice the ground is coming up quite fast. "...? Looks like we are there. Only one helicopter? I am not impressed. Welp. Let's get off this death trap."
Metal Man (GM): He leaps off with about 10 feet to go. He lands in a roll.
Garrick: "Son of a bitch... I'm gonna break something..." *swings off and makes to roll like him.*
Metal Man (GM): Garrick crashes into the ground, taking damage. Luckily, nothing is broken, but the rolling felt akin to being hurled around by a washing machine.
Jack: "Eeesh. See. If there was one other Quester. They would have landed on top of you. ...Or just flown to their doom..."
Garrick: *CRUNCH* "Grahh! Just what I need... try coming out of a pipe and have five drop on you."
Metal Man (GM): He watches as the glider flies over a barbed-wire fence, directly into an artillery position, and is exploded. Jack goes to help Garrick up, pointing at a door.
Garrick rights himself, patting himself down to make sure he's not too terribly injured, then nods and draws his pistol, flicking off the safety.
Jack: "We move in there. There's going to be hostiles, so. You'll be helping me. I can kill most of them, but I figure backup is handy."
Garrick: "I can get my fair share. Take point, I've got your back."
Metal Man (GM): Jack moves in first. Seeing the steel door with the image of a Hydra on it is vaguely intimidating. Jack spears it, then reaches in and unlocks it from the inside.
Garrick moves after him, gun raised, sweeping from side to side. It'd been ages since he did this last...
Metal Man (GM): Almost immediately there would be a huge number of men with guns in the way.
Jack: "Take the left ones." They shoot at Jack first. He takes a few shots, but he seems too tough to be bothered. He idly stabs one down and zaps another one into dust.
Metal Man (GM): That leaves two for Garrick. They hold basic AK-47 style weapons.
Garrick raises his gun as he moves toward them, sighting down the barrel of the gun and putting a shot into the one on the left before clearing the distance, grabbing the gun of the second guy and twisting it to the side, planting is foot next to the soldiers foot and twisting with the pull, making to send him flying. (Iron Sights, then CQC)
Metal Man (GM): The dice want Garrick dead. But do the guards have any better luck shooting at him? They're not particularly high quality guards. One of them imitates the curse on Garrick, while the other threatens him with a lucky shot... The shot grazes Garrick in the shoulder. Jack goes to attack those men, only for more men to attack him. Someone yells out his name and he gets embroiled in some brouhaha to the right.
Garrick makes to take another shot at gripping the gun with both hands, throwing the guard over his shoulder before turning and trying to put another shot into the left guy's head.
Metal Man (GM): Both hits. Garrick knocks one flying and then shoots the other. As these soldiers are rather weak, they sort of fall over and die quickly. Jack tears his way through five others, now a bit injured.
Jack: "Okay, I found the way in."
Garrick makes to snap up one of the AK-47s, if possible, and whatever ammo he can scavenge.
Metal Man (GM): He points to the right, down a hallway. It's a short one, and there's a door to it... Garrick pick up an AK-47.
Garrick holsters his pistol at his thigh holster and does a quick glance over the gun with a practiced eye. He grunts, tosses it, and draws his pistol again, motioning Jack to lead.
Metal Man (GM): Anyway, up ahead is the hallway... Garrick's major obstacle now is a two-legged war mech, human-shaped. The man in it looks more intelligent than the guards who fell over like stuck pigs.
???: "Who are you people. How did you know he was here? The Hydra organization gave no files out... this location was top secret!"
Garrick ignores the voice. "Can you take it off it's legs?"
Jack: "I can try."
???: "Don't even try to break in, he will..."
Metal Man (GM): *BLAM.* One leg falls off. Jack's turn is over, however.
???: "Well if that is what you want I'll shoot you!"
Metal Man (GM): Garrick can see the cockpit where the man is, the legs, and the arms. Cockpit is a bit up there. It leans to the left due to leg damage.
Garrick strafes right, putting a series of bullets in the air. If he knew his mechs, that cockpit is obviously bullet proof. The coolant wires for the guns would be a acceptable target, though. He fires a rapid fire series of shots toward said target.
Metal Man (GM): Hit. Sparks fly from the crippled left arm. Normally it would be ready to fight more, but Jack is quite deadly and ruined its leg.
Garrick slides into a firing pose, sighting down his pistol once more before putting another shot into the air, going for the other wires that power the other arm.
Metal Man (GM): Hit. The other set of wires is damaged. Not as completely, but you pretty well hit this guy. The man goes to fire his weapons... He strafes both Jack and Garrick... with the right arm... which then explodes. Jack leaps out of the way like it's nothing. No wonder why he's able to do the work of all the Questers by himself. The mech is weaponless, missing a leg, and basically about ready to implode.
Jack: "Hmph." He hurls his spear into the center.
Garrick growls as the explosion scorches him with some hot shrapnel, shrugging it off as best he can.
Metal Man (GM): *BOOOM* It blows up, revealing itself as nothing more than a bunch of pieces. In the wreckage, there is a hot but not damaged combat knife.
Garrick: "...ha! Good."
Jack: "Well, that's enough for here." He goes to pry open the half-melted door.
Garrick checks behind him for stragglers before he quickly snaps up the knife, quickly sliding it into an empty sheath at his left chest strap.
Metal Man (GM): He rips the door open, expecting to find some easily surprised colonel, or perhaps more useless infantrymen to stomp into dust. Instead, as Garrick enter the strangely cold room, all he sees is a man in orange and yellow dress, with a helmet obscuring his face.
Garrick hurries to the door that Jack is prying open, pressing his back to the wall beside it before swinging in, making to sight as best he can on the new zone..
Metal Man (GM): It's a cloak of some kind... he stares at Garrick silently.
Garrick: "Freeze! On the ground, now!"
Metal Man (GM): The person stands there, ignoring the order.
Jack: "Yeah. Do that before I incinerate you."
Metal Man (GM): The person ignores Jack too.
???: "..." It walks... towards Garrick.
Jack: "This thing... a general? What?"
Garrick: "Doesn't matter. Subdue."
Jack: "Well, whatever. You stand back, I'll destroy him like Trevor. ...Subdue, whatever."
Metal Man (GM): He points his staff at the guy.
Jack: "Take this!"
Metal Man (GM): *ZOT.*
Metal Man (GM): ...The man holds out a yellow wand of his own, and fires a counter attack. They explode harmlessly mid-air.
Jack: "What the hell? Nobody can counter that attack. Except for Trevor, whose body reflected things. But he died, so we should be okay!"
Metal Man (GM): *ZOT* *ZOT* *ZOT* *BLOT* *BLOT* *BLOT.*
Garrick: "You obviously don't know us very well and the people we run with..."
Metal Man (GM): They exchange fire. Jack's attacking fire is met by ???'s counter-attacks.
Jack: "Well, I had one thing prepared for this!"
Metal Man (GM): He takes out... some ancient holy writing.
Garrick: "...Jack, what are you..."
Jack: "The Echidna spear can be made more powerful by the presence of a holy chant."
Garrick: "Yeah, you do that while I take care of him."
Metal Man (GM): ??? stares on, as if it doesn't feel anything will harm it.
Garrick immediately makes to fire forward, trying to twist that wand thing out of the way before throwing him.
Jack: "So..." He begins chanting. He restrains from firing, however, as Garrick attacks the... being.
Metal Man (GM): He... pushes Garrick aside. Just in time for Jack to fire some strangely enchanted beam... a much stronger one. ??? just focuses his own energy... which feels almost like pure sadness... to counter it. They're now deadlocked. ...But Garrick has a gun and he's stuck countering Jack.
Jack: "Shoot that thing! It can't block you and me at the same time!"
Garrick twists with the push, bringing his gun to bear, hesitating for a moment before putting three shots into it.
Metal Man (GM): ??? begins glowing much more strongly. It is a question as to how much power it really has, as the walls are slowly cracking and it is even beginning to push Jack back... It cannot dodge without breaking its insane concentration. *BANG* *BANG* *BANG* It is hit. Three times. It stops before it was about to crush Jack into the wall by merely moving forward. It hesitates for a moment, strange energy overflowing from the holes. It makes a sweeping movement with its hand, causing an explosion to the side where Garrick isn't... in the wall. The attack of Jack's is dispelled in the process.
Jack: "Dang it... out of charge!"
???: "..." It moves to walk away.
Jack: "No you don't!" He runs to intercept ???.
Metal Man (GM): It zaps him good, hurling him into the wall.
Jack: "Gah! Ow." Jack has no turn time left to do anything.
Garrick grunts, moving forward as well, flanking to the side as he fires a kick out at his lower knee, making to drop him while he draws his knife and holds him steady.
Metal Man (GM): Garrick stabs it. An eerie metallic noise is heard. He's been knocked over, but he won't stay that way for long.
Jack: "Ugh... no charge... what are we to do?"
Metal Man (GM): Just then, the Egg Carrier flies into view. A crackling noise is heard.
Jack: "...The ship is flying itself, Garrick! That's the lightning weapon! Step out of the way, we've done our part!"
Metal Man (GM): 'Our part?' Hm. Something must have been off. Or was it? Who knows. A large gun is about ready to lightningate that ??? guy to pieces. The ??? person is about ready to try to stand up instead, but even Jack couldn't run away fast enough to escape the Egg Carrier...
Garrick glances at Jack, frowning but nodding. He quickly slips his foot in and twists, throwing the figure to the ground hard before yanking Jack out of the wall and making to sprint his ass outta there.
Metal Man (GM): The strange person breaks free, but he has no time to escape thanks to Garrick. Garrick runs just before the sound of a giant lightning bolt hitting something partially made of metal is heard.
Garrick leaps with the wave of the explosion, rolling and turning, his gun leveled... he knows how this works... just in case...
Metal Man (GM): Garrick leaps out of the way successfully, and when the smoke clears, nothing remains. One can't be sure if it killed whatever that was, but if it did, it annihilated it. On the other hand there is a crater where it was standing.
Garrick: "...damn... didn't knew it did that..."
Metal Man (GM): Any remaining men have surrendered or fled.
Jack: "..." He stands up, slowly. "Now that was a close one! I'm sure glad you were here."
Garrick: "Yeah... jeez, more mysteries... you'd think it'd be simple by now..."
Jack: "That thing... it had enough power to take on my staff... I have to wonder if we killed it, or only temporarily subdued it... but it doesn't matter. For now Continia is safe."
Metal Man (GM): The ship flies over and lands. Some people in futuristic outfits walk over.
Garrick checks the clip in his gun. He spent more than half a clip on that little outting..
John: "Ah, hello. I'm, err. John Dark. And I have to thank you guys for that... we managed to hit their base, but they were able to retreat and strike our capital while we did that. Naturally you will be paid for your services..."
Jack: "Of course, it was my staff that did most of the work."
John: "So, him?" He points at Garrick.
Jack: "Uh... no..."
John: "Well, that's fine with us!"
Jack: "Didn't I say no???"
Metal Man (GM): John Dark gives Garrick 100 coins. He winks at Jack.
Garrick pockets the coins, shaking his head.
Jack: "Oh, right. You think you've given me quite enough."
Garrick: "Do you mind if I scavenge some ammo off some of these bodies?"
John: "We'll give you a handful but..." He looks to Garrick. "I'm sure this person has friends to share the money with."
Jack: "...I guess."
John: "Anyway, we have to go clean up a mess." They hand Jack some coins, and leave it at that.
Jack: "...Guess we go home, then..." Looking around, Garrick sees nothing but cheap guns.
Metal Man (GM): Blast those cheap soldiers! Oh. Ammunition is plentiful.
Garrick makes to gather some ammo up. He'll have to either find or fashion some new clips himself. At least he has backups...
Metal Man (GM): Garrick has himself your clips, and he can get aboard. Meanwhile... the lightning having blasted ???, someone or something was watching. Indeed, it was at the controls of the Egg Carrier, remotely. Looking down from outer space, the something (can't see it, mostly only see text) knows what happened.
Red Text: 'Hm. It appears my adversary is among the generals. And he managed to switch places with them, before I could find out. So I will have to try again before I cripple the Hydra organization... which is annoying. I have no time for smashing these grass roots rebels when HE is out there... The Questers are together, though... perhaps I should move them to preemptively halt the next problem...'
Metal Man (GM): The camera then returns to the Questers, shortly after Garrick left. Deloth is still rather distressed, and the rest of them seem at odds as to what to do.
Aribar: "So, now what do we do?" *The half-elf asks the question while looking towards Deloth and also wonders what they should do with him.*
Dragoshi: "No idea..."
Aribar: "Well, we have a little bit of free time. If possible, I would like to take Marley's boat and head to the Mushroom Kingdom. Of course, I know I can't pilot it."
Deloth: *still shivering and curled in the fetal position. No big surprise...*
Aribar: "But, on second thought, I believe we should get Deloth some mental help."
Dragoshi: "Well... I could pilot it. ...that too."
Aribar looks about for nearby Eggrobos.
Metal Man (GM): One. The one which is the Final Egg... Eggrobo... Egg Egg.
Aribar then thinks of a better solution that doesn't involve possibly deranged red text controlled robots. "We should head back to Central City and take Deloth to a hospital."
Dragoshi: "...Yea, that sounds good."
Aribar goes over to Deloth and pokes the cracked Quester with his foot.* "Hey, Deloth, are you okay? Can you get up and come with us?"
Deloth: *...No response.*
Aribar tries to pull Deloth up to his feet.*
Deloth gets pulled up, quite limply. Dang, he's CRACKED this time.
Dragoshi: "...Okay, now how are we gonna get 'im on the boat?"
Aribar: "This is becoming a common problem with him." *Aribar says this as if Deloth isn't even there.* "Hm. With my magic and your strength, I think we can easily carry him to the boat." *If Dragoshi goes to carry Deloth, Aribar would cast Kinesis to help lighten the load.*
Dragoshi: *Nods, and goes to do as such. DEL CARRYING START.*
Aribar continues carrying Deloth.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers carry him to the boat. After a while, they would be in Central City. Aribar and Dragoshi and Keikyoku would enter the hospital wing, with Deloth. Who would probably still be despondent/cracked.
Keikyoku: "We need epinephrine. Now."
Dragoshi: "...do we?"
Metal Man (GM): A doctor walks up, looking at Deloth.
Aribar: "Greetings, sir. Could we have an appointment? Our friend isn't doing very well."
Dr. Randall: "Ah, hello. I am, er, Dr. Randall, one of the main doctors here." *He looks at Deloth.* "I assume he is the one who needs... treatment?"
Aribar: "Aye; he's had a little too much stress and trauma recently."
Dr. Randall: "...I haven't quite seen someone like that before... it is very strange. I hope he wasn't experimented on."
Keikyoku makes a face at everyone ignoring him, it was worth a shot...
Dr. Randall: "Well... is he okay physically?" He takes out a pen light and moves it around to see if Deloth would be aware enough to follow it or notice he's doing it.
Aribar: "He may have a few bumps and bruises, but he should be okay physically."
Deloth: *His pupils dilate, but he doesn't follow the light with his eyes. So he IS in there, somewhere, but...*
Aribar: "We've been essentially fighting people such as Borne for probably over a decade. Recently he's just been breaking down."
Dr. Randall: "Hm. This is not good... he reminds me somewhat of post-traumatic stress disorder. You look the part of soldiers, too... Indeed, all those scars and recently healed wounds... you must be more active than even front-line GUN soldiers."
Aribar nods towards the doctor.
Dr. Randall: "The fact you're alive, talking to me, is clearly beyond science to explain, but I will use what I can to help your friend. But I have to warn you... if whatever allows you to defy your physical reality fades, you will die... permanently. Nothing more than magic could explain how you avoid losing your movement after what looks like several horrific bone breakages..." *Goes to lift Deloth up and look him in the eyes, and then listen to his breathing with a stethoscope.*
Aribar: "What do you mean? All of our injuries would catch up to us?"
Keikyoku: "Got any epinephrine?"
Dr. Randall: "I figure some tranquilizers might be able to help this person, if he is merely in shock. We have some more sophisticated medicine as well, but..." He frowns. "Everything costs money."
Keikyoku: *Goes and checks out the nurses.*
Aribar: "I am not sure how much it is worth, but I have thirty-eight gold coins."
Metal Man (GM): Keikyoku goes to walk further in. The door is locked... it's a one way door, for letting in patients.
Dr. Randall: "Thirty-eight... solid gold??? Well, I could do a lot for that much!"
Keikyoku looks for any nurses in the room he's in.
Dr. Randall: "Everyone comes in trying to pay me with these insurance things... I rarely get much money out of it. But... solid gold... yes. Your friend will be... okay..." *How is Deloth's breathing??? *pokes Deloth.*
Metal Man (GM): Keikyoku see one, conservatively dressed nurse next to the locked door, writing things down.
Deloth: *Shallow. Regular, but shallow.*
Dr. Randall: "Hm..." *He would listen to Deloth's heart rhythm.*
Keikyoku: *walks up to the nurse and leans against the wall.* "Hi."
Deloth: *Quick, weak, rapid beats.*
Nurse: "Uh, hello. Are you here for an appointment?"
Dr. Randall: "Hm. Yes, this is relatively simple." *He takes out a high-tech pad and writes things down.* "I'll take some medication, and he can't be allowed near combat zones. Ever."
Keikyoku: "No. I helped bring him here." *points to Deloth.* "So what's your name?"
Dr. Randall: "Unless you want an empty shell of a person, who could die of a heart attack just by hearing an explosion. I might need to do some blood tests, too... he may be suffering from a mutagen."
Metal Man (GM): The Nurse looks knowingly to the pin on her shirt. 'Clarice' The Nurse is a human, as is Dr. Randall. This being a major human area of the city.
Dr. Randall: "So... what is the name of this patient? Do you have any ID? Who am I to bill for medication? ...And I have some suggestions as to where he can live if he doesn't have anywhere."
Keikyoku: "So, what do you like to do for fun?"
Aribar: "Deloth is his name, but I'll pay for his bills. I am Aribar Hunter. And is there anything you can do to ensure that he can be in battles again?"
Clarice: "..." *She sighs.* "Mostly, I like to trim bonsai trees... but I'm at work right now, so I can't really answer non-serious questions." *Phone rings.* "And also, that." *She picks up the phone and begins talking on it.*
Keikyoku: *goes and sits on a couch, not having anybody to talk to.*
Dr. Randall: "No. Not if his mind retreats like it is now. The mind is a fragile thing. Maybe if he had constant psycho-analysis... but that's even more than gold coins can buy. No one should be in battle, even with magical things keeping them alive. If... IF... IF! You have to have him fight... then it should only be done... IF! He is in his right mind and shows he is ready for it. Otherwise, all bets are off."
Aribar offers a weak chuckle. "We've been in battles non-stop for years."
Dr. Randall: "Yeesh. No wonder. All of you except maybe him--" *He points to Keikyoku.* "Show years of scars and unnaturally healed wounds. It's like drugs, only it seems to allow you to rack up more injuries, mental and physical, than is humanly possible. You might need a magical cure for superhuman mental injuries, frankly."
Dragoshi: "I'd imagine as such..."
Dr. Randall: "I can give him the best medicine to cure his mind, but... they adjust hormones and lessen fear and worry. That's it. It can't remove the underlying stress."
Keikyoku examines the old magazines for anything interesting.
Dr. Randall: "Anything which does strips them of caring about anything, and in that case... then he wouldn't feel interested in fighting anymore."
Metal Man (GM): Keikyoku sees 'Hot Rod Digest Health Worry Monthly' and 'House Redecoration Parade Sunset Circle Extravaganza.'
Keikyoku: *sighs and sits back on the couch, wondering if Del is gonna be OK.*
Dr. Randall: "Can he speak? Will he speak? I would like to know what he wants..." He taps Deloth's shoulders. "Otherwise, I guess you guys act as his representatives."
Aribar: "Unfortunately, a permanent solution is needed. Although, Deloth's thoughts should be considered. Perhaps we should just get him back to a state of 'normalcy' before pursuing other methods."
Dr. Randall: "Well..." He thinks. "I think simple tranquilizers should restore him to a state where he can be reasoned with. Though he will be sleepy. I'll just check one more time..." He snaps his fingers in front of Deloth three times. To see if he even blinks.
Keikyoku: *looks for something interesting.*
Metal Man (GM): Like most doctor's offices, this is the most boring place on Earth. Or whatever the heck this planet is.
Keikyoku: *walks over to Aribar to help.*
Dr. Randall: "You... you in there?" *He waves his hand in front of Deloth.* "Do something, anything, if you can hear what I'm saying."
Aribar: "Huh. He spoke."
Dragoshi: *Nods and stays silent.*
Deloth: "I... I want to go home..."
Keikyoku: "I make him mad all the time... Should I go somewhere else?"
Aribar realizes that he doesn't know where Deloth lives. "Where do you live, Deloth?"
Dr. Randall: "Home." *He looks to Keikyoku.* "No, you stay here. That might be useful." *He looks to Deloth.* "Where is... home?"
Deloth stares blankly. "Don't know..."
Keikyoku: "If his heart isn't well and he gets angry his blood pressure will rise..."
Dr. Randall: "Well..." *He fiddles and takes out some medical stuff.* "I wouldn't want to do anything without your permission... what if I did something to bring you closer to 'home' so you could speak more coherently to us?"
Aribar: "This is a little troublesome. The only aspect I truly know about Deloth's past is that he knows another friend of ours which we haven't seen in a long time."
Deloth: *another blank stare. This might take a while...*
Keikyoku: *pokes Del.*
Aribar: "I would say go ahead with it, Doctor. He wants to go home, so we might as well try and give it to him."
Dr. Randall: "Well... then..." He gets out a tranquilizer. "If he hates needles, this should wake him up. If he's paying attention... otherwise it should knock him out of his state of shock. Here goes..." He tries to use the tranquilizer to tranquilize Deloth and normalize his heartbeat/breathing...
Metal Man (GM): *Tranquilize.* He stands back a moment, to see if it manages to lower his heart rate and (ironically) allow him to be more conscious.
Keikyoku: *sighs.* "I was sure he would respond to me bugging him."
Dr. Randall: "It's worse than simple trauma; he is shocked. One could wave a gun in his face and it wouldn't mean anything."
Deloth: "..." *mumbles groggily.*
Dr. Randall: "I don't even know if the tranquilizer will do the trick. You may want to leave him with me and come back later... I can charge you then. Don't worry; 38 gold coins... is plenty, I don't expect to need them all."
Aribar: "He just muttered something. Maybe it is working."
Keikyoku: *looks at Del's eyes.* "Hi."
Deloth: "...get out of my face, please."
Aribar: "He's back to normal!"
Keikyoku: *backs up.* "Wheeeee! You're OK!"
Deloth: "I could hear you... but I couldn't talk."
Aribar: "What happened to you, Deloth?"
Keikyoku: *smiles and sits in front of Del.*
Deloth: "...Passed out, right?"
Dr. Randall: "You seem to have been overwhelmed with stress. I would advise you rest... and perhaps I can try to work on what's mutating you... I suspect something is doing that on top of your unnatural battling tendencies."
Deloth: "Something... someone?"
Keikyoku: "Well I hope you get well soon."
Dr. Randall: "Well, your body has strange energy patterns coming from it." *He holds up a complex medical scanner.* "Your physiognomy was originally one thing... then another... and now another... traces of them all seem to be picking up on here. If I didn't have such complex devices that alone would be a mystery, but thankfully GUN knows all about this sort of thing. Something is mutating your body and making these changes..."
Deloth yawns. "Someone else... Vortex..."
Keikyoku: "So what is he gonna turn into?"
Dr. Randall: "Well, if it continues he may mutate beyond recognition, turn into a higher level form, turn into a lower level form... it's random. It could resolve itself, or it could mess him up."
Aribar: "Deloth has a special power called 'Vortex.' It can make him essentially teleport between two places within a short distance. Another institute examined him and, if I recall correctly, said he was picking up traits when teleporting."
Dr. Randall: "..." He shakes his head. "We at GUN have tried teleportation before... . The use of it always leads to bad things. In the short term it is workable, but if his body possesses the ability to teleport... it may be prudent to separate it out from his body entirely, before he corrupts himself beyond recognition."
Deloth looks up frustratedly. "Someone ELSE!"
Keikyoku: *looks at Del questioningly.*
Aribar quizzically looks at Deloth.* "Huh?"
Dr. Randall: "Well. It could be someone else, too, but who? I don't know anyone who can mutate others at will..."
Metal Man (GM): He looks to the Questers.
Deloth looks back down. "It's... not them anymore..."
Keikyoku: "Do you need a hug?"
Dr. Randall: "I think he should rest now... particularly because the tranquilizers may cause him to fall asleep anyway, and he may be able to tell this story better once rested."
Dragoshi: "...well, that was eerily well-timed." >_>
Aribar: "Do you think that he will go back into his shock once he wakes up?"
Keikyoku: "I still think he needs a hug."
Dr. Randall: "No, it's triggered by memories or ideas related to stress. Sleep will allow him to rest and perhaps gather his thoughts, if he doesn't fall into a coma."
Keikyoku: "I want to find out what he'd do if I hug him..."
Dr. Randall: "You can do that later." He picks up Deloth. Barely. "You might stress him." He goes to carry him off. "I'll see you later."
Aribar: "Make sure you give him the best care."
Dr. Randall: "For solid gold coins? Of course!"
Aribar: "Which reminds me; here is your payment." *Is now poor.*
Keikyoku: *imagines Del being spoon fed by hot nurses in an extremely comfy bed.*
Dr. Randall: "Thanks!" He vanishes, with Deloth.
Metal Man (GM): So the Questers took Deloth to the hospital and helped him, while previously Jack and Garrick took out a threat in Continia. Now the group is sitting on Emerald Coast, with not much to do. Panzer has finished fixing the ship, but hasn't left yet. Things are vaguely peaceful, although it feels somewhat empty.
Aribar sighs. He's sitting down on the ground and thinking about how screwed up their situation seems to be. "So, does anyone else want to do anything with our little vacation?"
Digifanatic: "I don't know... if there was any of the continent home to The Dust Once Known as Vylch, we could head there. I don't know... if there was any of the continent home to The Dust Once Known as Vylch worth exploring we haven't seen yet, we could head there."*
Aribar: "We could go there. I'd also like to try and head to the Mushroom Kingdom on a bit of a personal errand if we ever get a spare moment."
Digifanatic: "I'm open."
Dragoshi: "Ehhh... I don't mind either way."
Keikyoku: "Maybe we could see if democracy has kicked in all the way in the Mushroom Kingdom."
Dragoshi: *chuckles lightly.*
Digifanatic: "Well, I have no errands to be concerned of. Aribar has one errand to be concerned of."
Keikyoku: *spins around.*
Metal Man (GM): The boat's all ready to go and nothing seems to be bothering the Questers here. Panzer is likely to head off on her own anyway.
Digifanatic: "I'm all for Ari's idea." *walks to the boat.*
Aribar: "Thank you, Digi." *Aribar gets up and brushes himself off before heading to the boat.*
Metal Man (GM): Digi can pilot his way to the Mushroom Kingdom area relatively quickly... There's a lot of places in that area. http://ssq.metalman88.com/marioregionmap.png.
Digifanatic: *waits for the other two, if they're interested.*
Dragoshi: *Gets on ze boat.*
Keikyoku gets on the boat and lays on the floor below deck.
Digifanatic: *hits it for the MK and goes, conservatively enough, to that little Mario Land spot in the corner of the northern island.*
Aribar: "There is a short list of people that I wish to attempt to talk to: Toadsworth, Kamek, and a few magely fortune tellers whose names I forget."
Metal Man (GM): Going to Mario Land, eh? Heh heh heh... okay then. The Questers arrive on the shores of the continent. Here there is a stately amusement park. The entrance is wide open and it seems almost abandoned, but Toad is there, waiting almost impatiently.
Keikyoku gets off the boat as fast as possible. looks at the amusement park, wide eyed.
Digifanatic: *gets off the boat and notices Toad.* "Hello?"
Aribar follows Keikyoku off of the boat and heads over to Toad. He wonders what this place is.
Toad: "People? At last! People!!!!"
Metal Man (GM): He runs up to the Questers and falls on his knees.
Toad: "It's been so... empty... you're the first people in so long! I have no clue what happened to all the people... The last group said ghosts terrified them on their way here, but I don't understand... we're in prime real estate!"
Keikyoku: "Got any fun rides?"
Dragoshi: "...maybe the fact that it's kinda built near Gho-...knew it."
Aribar: "What -is- this place?"
Flaeyn: "Ah, I can tell this is gonna be fun..."
Metal Man (GM): Toad points at the sign and makes a weird grating "Yrrrrreah!" noise.
Toad: "This is Mario Land, where everyone comes to party! Wishes are fulfilled, stars are obtained, dice are rolled constantly!"
Flaeyn: "For some reason that sounded really epic..."
Keikyoku: "Why don't you challenge the ghosts to match and beat them?"
Dragoshi: .oO(Moreso than it deserved to sound.) "Maybe because they'd bring in backup?"
Toad: "There are no ghosts in Mario Land! Except for friendly ones which you pay coins to steal from your friends with! Sheesh. It's like we have a ghost force field. So, I heard someone spoke of fun rides... what do you need? Fun rides then?"
Keikyoku: "I'm up for some fun rides."
Toad: "Well, we have the minigame coaster. It's a rollercoaster of minigames!"
Dragoshi: "...minigame coaster? How's that work?"
Toad: "Although only two people at a time may participate. You must go down a track, beating one minigame after another. If you beat them all, you win a prize!"
Keikyoku: "I'm in."
Aribar: "What is the prize?"
Dragoshi: "Well, if no one else is willing... I guess I'll take a go at it." :x
Toad: "Coins! Lots of coins!"
Digifanatic: "Well, at least this is different."
Aribar: "I have no use for money."
Keikyoku: "So it's me and Dragoshi?"
Toad: "You want money? Okay! Come with me! The rest of you get to watch!"
Digifanatic: "Well, you're the first two who spoke up..."
Metal Man (GM): He motions for Dragoshi and Keikyoku to come forward, walking into the mostly abandoned Mario Land.
Dragoshi: *Follows on along.*
Keikyoku follows Toad.
Metal Man (GM): He leads the two Questers (with the others closely behind) to a large roller coaster. There's a roller coaster car, with room for two.
Flaeyn follows as well.
Toad: "We have new advanced minigames now, and everyone else can watch you!"
Digifanatic: *follows to the spectator's seat.*
Toad: "Just step aboard to begin! Just be careful... some minigames can make you LOSE coins!"
Flaeyn stares at the two from afar, seeing as there's only room for two.
Dragoshi: *Gets in the roller coaster. Yaaaaaay.*
Keikyoku gets into the coaster.
Metal Man (GM): The coaster jolts forwards, goes up a moment, then falls down... *WARP* A big screen TV lowers as they appear in their first game. Explanation for it appears as well.
Toad: "This game is... uhhh..." *Flips through cue cards.* "Cylinder Craziness! You must ride a cylinder down a hill without falling! If you fall forwards you will fall off and be crushed, losing coins! If you fall backwards, it will be merely hilarious! Uhhh... oh, and your competitors for this race, which you must at least outlast to win!"
Metal Man (GM): Waluigi and Yoshi drop down from the sky next to Keikyoku and Dragoshi.
Yoshi: *Indecipherable squeaking noises.*
Waluigi: "Wa-ha! I'mma beat you all! Wa-ha-ha-ha-ha!"
Toad: "Get ready!"
Metal Man (GM): A cylinder appears; Dragoshi and Keikyoku are on the left side, Yoshi and Waluigi are on the right side. They're atop a huge hill, which may or may not be real.
Toad: "Ready... 3... 2... 1... START!"
Metal Man (GM): The cylinder wobbles, then goes rolling down the hill. Yoshi wobbles but stays on. Waluigi seems to laugh at how easy the game is. Dragoshi has no problem. Keikyoku's mind is elsewhere; he flies off the cylinder very quickly. No real damage to his coins though.
Waluigi: "Wa ha ha ha ha ha!"
Toad: "And the hedgehog guy bites it! Will Dragoshi win???"
Metal Man (GM): The cylinder hits a rock and bumps.
Dragoshi: *Tries to keep his balance by trying to keep his feet as planted on the cylinder as possible without yanno... Getting smashed.* :x
Metal Man (GM): Dragoshi stays on relatively easily. The cylinder keeps on going down the hill and now threatens to fall straight down...
Dragoshi: *For this one... Lessee... Dragoshi plants his feet down the thing has well as he possibly can, and lean back a little bit, hoping to give that extra bit of momentum after it lands. Oh, and then quickly teeter forwards.* :x
Metal Man (GM): The cylinder is now pretty much straight on rolling. It slowly rolls to a stop.
Toad: "And you... PASS!"
Metal Man (GM): The Questers warp back to the coaster, which then goes ahead one.
Dragoshi: "That went... a lot better for me than I expected it to." >_>
Toad: "The next mini game is... Tank Trouble!"
Metal Man (GM): Each person gets a tank. The arena is small enough that movement is a given; what's important is shooting. Waluigi and Yoshi are here yet again. Keikyoku is in, of course...
Toad: "3... 2... 1... START!"
Metal Man (GM):Yoshi quickly fires at Keikyoku! *BLAM* Keikyoku's tank is 50% damaged!
Dragoshi: *Dragoshi decides to fire at Yoshi! Why? Well, why not.*
Metal Man (GM): Miss.
Keikyoku declares war on Yoshi and stuffs the proper documentation into the center of a cannonball.
Metal Man (GM): He's hit. 50% damage to Yoshi! Waluigi laughs and shoots at Keikyoku. *BLAM* Keikyoku is exploded! Yoshi fires at Dragoshi! Failure.
Dragoshi: *Doesn't need to evade! Yaaaaaay! In any case, Dragoshi retaliates by firing back at Yoshi!*
Metal Man (GM): *BLAM* Yoshi is destroyed!
Waluigi: "You-a going down!"
Metal Man (GM): He shoots at Dragoshi. *Hit.*
Dragoshi: *Blam! Dragoshi gets dizzied a little bit, but shakes it off! He counter-attacks Waluigi by firing at him! (of course.)*
Metal Man (GM): Hit!
Waluigi: "Ha-ha! You gonna lose!"
Metal Man (GM): *BLAM.* The two Questers both fall off the mini-game coaster, only to reappear on the normal land. They each gain +5 coins.
ToaD: "Awww... well... you can always try again!!!"
Keikyoku: "I wanna try again."
Dragoshi: "I'm good."
Flaeyn: "Hm. Good luck with that."
Digifanatic: "I can go either way... now, Toadsworth I think we could find near Peach's Castle..."
Aribar: "If we came here then I would like to find my 'informants', but the decision ultimately lies with all of you."
Digifanatic: "I don't mind helping Aribar."
Aribar: "Apologies, Keikyoku, but it seems like the vote is stacked against staying."
Toad: "Well. Yoshi and Waluigi get here via a warp pipe, so maybe... you can use that... and tell more people to come here?"
Metal Man (GM): He snaps his fingers and a Warp Pipe pops up.
Aribar: "We can do that, but where is the-oh. Thank you, sir."
Flaeyn: "Tell people to come here? Sure thing."
Keikyoku: *smiles at the thought of coming back.*
Toad: "I never thought to advertise, but maybe we can get more fun rides later."
Digifanatic: "Who knows. Where does the Pipe go to? Center of the island?"
Toad: "To Peach's castle. Where most of the main Mario... people... live."
Aribar hops into the pipe.
Digifanatic: *OONT OONT OONT.*
Keikyoku does a front flip into the pipe.
Flaeyn jumps in, tucking in his wings.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers warp over to the castle.
Dragoshi: *Down the pipe we gooooo!*
Keikyoku does a 360 triple backflip out of the pipe.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers arrive at the castle. Naturally, Toadsworth is likely to be inside, and the door is wide open. Toad Town is just beyond the castle. There's also the Mushroom Republic Legislature a ways to the East.
Aribar waits for the others to pop out of the pipe before heading towards the castle.
Metal Man (GM): The Questers head inside and see Luigi. He's sitting on some stairs, bored.
Digifanatic: *BOINT BOINT BOINT.* *followed Aribar.*
Keikyoku sits next to Luigi "Wanna play some mini games later?"
Aribar: "Greetings, sir Luigi."
Luigi: "Wha? Oh... there just isn't anything to do these days... not with Mario busy saving the world for everyone..."
Flaeyn crosses his arms, and looks down on Luigi with his usual scary-face. "Hello... Luigi?"
Keikyoku: "There's plenty to do, Mario land has lotsa mini games that are fun."
Luigi: "Gah!" He shines a flashlight at Flaeyn to make sure he isn't a ghost. "Mario land? Pft... that grew old years ago. I don't even have a mansion anymore... turns out I haven't been paying enough taxes... so they took it."
Keikyoku: "No, Mario Land is fun."
Aribar: "Couldn't you play the games to get money then?"
Flaeyn has a flashlight shone in his face, he winces for a second, before snatching the flashlight out of Luigi's hand, violently trying to snap it in two. "People these days..."
Metal Man (GM): Flaeyn attempt to snap it in two. It is made of friggin' titanium.
Flaeyn kooks like an idiot doing it.
Luigi: "That's a gaddlight. You can't break it! Believe me. Mario tried. Mario broke all my other flashlights."
Flaeyn: "What IS a gaddlight?"
Luigi: "An amazing invention by Dr. E. Gadd, who creates fantastic machines, like the poltergust 3000."
Aribar: "Apparently the thing you tried to break." .oO(How much smalltalk is needed before extorting information from a depressed plumber?)
Luigi: "Now if only there was a use for it..."
Flaeyn looks at the gaddlight, then tosses it back to Luigi. "Well anyway, I believe Aribar has something to address to you."
Luigi: "Mm?" *He puts the flashlight away, slowly.*
Aribar: "Ah, yes. I am looking for some information on a bit of magic that I have been told was located in this kingdom at one point in time. I was told that Toadsworth, among other people, may have information on it. Do you have any idea where he is?"
Keikyoku looks at the ceiling.
Luigi: "Wait, there's magic somewhere? And it isn't related to some question Mario is pre-destined to do?" He stands up. "Woo-hoo! I'll find the magic!!!" He runs up the stairs. "Toadsworth!!!!!"
Metal Man (GM): You hear some crashing and eventually Toadsworth comes down the stairs.
Toadsworth: "Hm... what's this... magic? What magic?"
Aribar stands there for a moment. He hopes he doesn't crush Luigi's hopes and dreams. "Greetings, sir. I am seeking a very powerful magic spell. My short trail of clues has led me to believe that I may find more about it in the Mushroom Kingdom."
Toadsworth: "What is it called?"
Keikyoku: "Hiya Toadsworth."
Aribar: "I have heard it called the Pure Element; a powerful spell that-" *The mage stops. He isn't entirely sure what the spell DOES.* "That does, ah, something. I am not sure what."
Toadsworth: "Oh, that. Yes, it is rumored to be near here, buried deep within the ground. I suspect it helped form our little world. Unfortunately it's guarded by fierce magic, monsters, and traps."
Flaeyn: "The power to summon unicorns and rainbows to set the world into Armageddon."
Aribar: "That coincides with what I know about it." *The half-elf half-heartedly mutters this.*
Toadsworth: "It could very well do something like that. My books say its last known appearance was followed by violently powerful magic damaging an otherwise normal continent."
Aribar then stops and thinks for a moment.* "Wait, so you know where this spell is?"
Toadsworth: "Yes. It is hinted at in rare books I study, and a variety of historical books. Before the spell came here, all lands were just Mushroom land. It set certain areas on fire, others filled with pits... even power tools!"
Keikyoku: "Of course he does, he's a kajillian years old."
Toadsworth: "If you really want it... you'll need to find a large enough drill to get to the temple. Which means a harrowing journey through... Power Tool Land."
Dragoshi: "...Power tools?"
Aribar: "How deep do you think this temple is?"
Dragoshi: "...How does that even work?!"
Toadsworth: "A mile or two vertically, surrounded by magma. Oh, and take care not to drill the temple--too much damage could destroy our entire continent. The magic is unstable, and in fact several lands which were once here have vanished over time. It may also be guarded by its last controller, probably some quite ancient, immortal, and powerful Magikoopa serving an unknown master or perhaps he is now the master."
Aribar: "I thank you for all of this information, Toadsworth."
Toadsworth: "This is why Mario never deigned to find it. That, and he fell asleep every time I told him to go fetch it for me."
Flaeyn: "Do we get any soldiers to come with us?"
Toadsworth: "Soldiers? We don't believe in soldiers. Maybe Bowser does..."
Metal Man (GM): *Luigi walks down.*
Digifanatic: "Okay, Aribar, do you still want to go while we still haven't done anything crazy?" *smiles.*
Luigi: "I'll come!"
Flaeyn: "Maybe we should ask Bowser for some soldiers."
Luigi: "I need to show the world my brother is just a wimp! ...Again!"
Dragoshi: "...I really doubt we're ready for this kind o' thing."
Aribar: "I am sorry to disappoint, but I do not know if it would be a good idea to go further."
Digifanatic: .oO(THANK YOU FOR AGREEING WITH ME.)
Toadsworth: "It's only drilling through to a magma-filled temple with the most evil powerful magic person ever. What could go wrong?"
Metal Man (GM): He chuckles.
Aribar: "As Dragoshi said, I think this would only end in an abysmal failure. Even if we managed to drill into the temple -and- defeat this terrible guardian, we would still have to learn the spell. I do not think I could even grasp the first syllable of the incantation."
Digifanatic: "And make sure the island doesn't come apart. So wanna head back to Mobius?"
Toadsworth: "You might be correct. It is an immensely powerful spell. Such that the caster of it probably doesn't emerge from the depths out of fear of accidentally destroying the world."
Aribar: "I am content with knowing the location of the spell. When the time comes, if it comes, to claim the Pure Element, then we will know where it is at."
Keikyoku: "To Mario Land then!"
Toadsworth: "My stories indicate it is very hard to control... it can do many things... .and often acts on one's mind. Several lesser casters turned to stone or exploded from trying to possess it."
Aribar: "Luigi, you will certainly be a part of our journey to claim the spell. I believe that we could easily convince the Echidnas to send some powerful warriors as well."
Flaeyn: "Nonetheless, we should get it so it wouldn't fall into the wrong hands."
Luigi: "Okay... uh... I'll be waiting." He's disappointed, a little.
Dragoshi: "...I think that won't be a problem right now considering its current location, Flaeyn."
Toadsworth: "Echidna... yes. Long ago they had it for a bit... they had a better caster than average... but eventually it came to here."
Flaeyn shrugs. "You never know."
Toadsworth: "Well, I'd only worry if you knew anyone who could take on an extremely ancient super-wizard."
Aribar: "I apologize for the disappointment, Luigi, but just think of this as a time to train; to prepare for your spot in the limelight."
Flaeyn points to Keikyoku. "His powers: OHKOing people by shooting him out of a mancannon."
Toadsworth: "I mean... this spell apparently allows raw elemental power to be made a reality. Rays of fire which obliterate all it touches. Lightning which can power entire cities, or destroy them. Mountains that can rise from anywhere, and even make new islands."
Aribar: .oO(Kuja, Red text man, Metal Man, Eggman. They could probably take on this mage.)
Toadsworth: "Even then... this is relatively secret information, so perhaps if you don't tell anyone it's safe anyway."
Luigi: "Meh..." He walks off.
Aribar: "Aye, and I am quite happy that I came to you first."
Toadsworth: "Yes. It is very dangerous..."
Aribar: "I was also told that a family of fortune tellers and Bowser's Kamek might have had knowledge of the spell."
Toadsworth: "Yes. The caster is probably some relative of his. Odds are he keeps it secret for the same reason I do. Nobody around here can comprehend obtaining it. Kamek is a master magician, but his strongest magic couldn't make Bowser win. If he can't do that, he can't control the element. Neither could Bowser, or any of his other magic flunkies. Once upon a time a very powerful person threatened our kingdom, but he was all technology. He died at Mario's hands. But Mario is no spellcaster, alas."
Digifanatic: "Do you know who this powerful person was?"
Toadsworth: "Not exactly. I was on vacation when it happened. People kept speaking about how he stabbed a place with a giant sword."
Dragoshi: *Just listens to the conversation, swaying back and forth slightly.*
Digifanatic: "Technology and swords..."
Toadsworth: "It is a bit strange, really, especially since several people involved vanished forever after it was done."
Digifanatic: .oO(Well, well, well. Right up my alley? Perhaps?)
Toadsworth: "The world keeps changing. New worlds and you guys appear too. Nothing stays the same."
Aribar shudders, thinking he can remember someone deep in the Questers' past that dealt with swords and technology. He can't exactly recall who, though.
Toadsworth: "Today it is relatively normal. Bowser has kidnapped Peach again, and Mario is having a race. A while ago I heard Mario somehow got captured instead... they're having a fun time out there, as weird as it sounds."
Digifanatic: "Heh... Bowser capturing Peach is normal... where'd Luigi go?"
Toadsworth: "They never include Luigi. Luigi apparently has nothing to do. It's a bit depressing."
Digifanatic: "Well, hang on..."
Dragoshi: "...That is rather sad..."
Digifanatic: "Hopefully, I'll be back soon." *heads off to look for Luigi.*
Metal Man (GM): Luigi is upstairs, amongst royal frippery, sighing and laying against the wall.
Keikyoku walks over to Luigi.
Digifanatic: "Hmm, Luigi. According to Toadsworth, Bowser has captured Peach again... and apparently, Mario's elsewhere doing stuff besides trying to save her."
Luigi: "Nobody cares... nothing to do... villains use me as bait... if they care at all... Wha... huh?"
Digifanatic: "It's what I heard. Bowser's got Peach and Mario's busy with other things at this time. Rumor is, Mario might have been caught as well."
Luigi: "Yeah, but they never want to have me interfere."
Digifanatic: "I don't hear anything about you not trying to save them."
Luigi: "Mario got mad at me the last time I told him the stories of an adventure I really had. Peach wants Mario to save her, not me. Bowser is confused as to why I'd even want to fight him."
Digifanatic: "Hmm... You could steal Mario's clothes."
Luigi: *sigh.* "My height would give it away."
Digifanatic: "It's a really silly idea but once Bowser sees that--aww."
Aribar hrms and asks the remaining people, "Do you think it would be wise to tell the Echidnas of this discovery? They were the ones who inquired about the spell in the first place. However, they may come and take it before everyone is ready."
Keikyoku: "Your skinniness would give you away too."
Dragoshi: "Uhhhh... Pretend to be Waluigi and weird everyone right the heck out?" :x
Luigi: "Waluigi... where is he? I've always wanted to attack Waluigi. He has no reason to hate me, I don't even know where he came from. He could be an alien or something."
Digifanatic: "Last time I checked, he was offering to be a minigame rival down in Mario Land."
Keikyoku: "Wasn't he created by Wario to play tennis?"
Flaeyn: "What, so Waluigi is Wario's son?"
Luigi: "He is there? I'll show him!" He runs off.
Digifanatic: "I think he means like a science experiment!" *trying to hold back his laughing.*
Keikyoku: "Can we go play minigames with Luigi?"
Digifanatic: "I think he'd prefer beating Waluigi one-on-one."
Dragoshi: "...Well, we should at least go and watch."
Keikyoku: "But I wanna play minigames..."
Dragoshi: *Is goin' back. Don't know about the others, though.*
Aribar follows Dragoshi.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers go back. A mini game going on. Waluigi and Luigi are hitting one another with tennis rackets.
Keikyoku: *Does a backflip into the pipe.*
Toad: "Well, this is strange... I've neevr seen quite a spirited fight here before!"
Waluigi: "Ahahahaha! I'm gonna weeeeen!"
Keikyoku: *runs up to toad.* "Can I join?"
Luigi: "Where did you come from? Why do you hate me? How do you shoot lasers out of your eyes?!?!"
Waluigi: "I'mma Waluigi, numbar wan!!!"
Toad: "Er... no... this is a 1 on 1 minigame."
Metal Man (GM): They seem pretty even...
Digifanatic: *muttering to Aribar.* "Got any tranq spells?"
Aribar simply stands back and watches the fight. "Apologies; Digi. The best I could do is lift them into the air."
Digifanatic: "Not those two." *whisper.* "I'm talking Mr. Echidnas-Just-Wanna-Have-Fun."
Aribar: "Ah. Sorry, nothing for that."
Metal Man (GM): Waluigi loses this fight, but they begin again, and it seems to slide in Waluigi's favor this time. It seems to go on forever... and ever... and ever...
