Super Smash Quest² - Story - Chapter 49: Mavericks & Mercenaries
Date: March 12th, 2009.
Metal Man (GM): The group has team BLU prepared to go and raid the Maverick Base. Everyone is just standing around the ship, waiting for the Questers to be ready. It's at the now nearly-completed Stadium.
Engineer: "We're all ready to go when you are." He waits inside the ship... which has been repaired.
Deloth: "Wow. This place looks great."
Digifanatic: *walks out the Stadium having seen what he's needed to and heads in.* "Yeah... just a little bit longer."
Garrick: "Alright, everyone mount up." *He gets into the ship as well, taking the pilot seat as per usual.*
Deloth hops into the ship and buckles up.
Rinith: "I have not fought in an arena in quite some time... and this is one if I ever did see for a material one."
Digifanatic: "Oh yeah... I think you'll like it when it's complete, Rinith."
Garrick: "C'mon, people. Time is wasting. Let's get going." *He flips a few switches, powering up the ship.*
Rinith: *gets in the ship and sits in a seat, seems a bit more cheerful then normal, which is saying something.*
Aribar trudges onto the airship; he's still woozy from their escape.
Garrick makes sure that everyone is there, then launches, heading for the Mushroom Kingdom and, in turn, the pipe that leads to the center of the Maverick HQ. He flips the ship onto auto-pilot, turning to regard the others.
Digifanatic: *he's listening.*
Garrick: "Alright, this is where we stand. The pipe leads directly into the heart of Maverick territory, right in their nerve center. We're going to take it out, with the help of the BLUs, and get a hold of Panzer's CPU."
Metal Man (GM): The ship begins to fly there.
Dragoshi: *Has entered the ship and taken seat, and just... listens.*
Metal Man (GM): The BLU members nod, having helped come up with this plan originally. However, an unusual point is brought up by the spy, as he flicks a cigarette.
Garrick: "We have two objectives: First, we find the main building for the Mavericks and take it out. Second, we find Panzer and get her out, or at least enough of her that she can be repaired."
Spy: "What is the main goal in case we... are pressed for time, so to say?"
Garrick frowns softly, pondering that...
Spy: "I know we should succeed but... we may have difficulties, how you say... doing all of it before they find out."
Garrick: "...getting Panzer out. That's priority. I figure that at the very least, in the process of getting her OUT, we should do enough damage to cripple them so the Maverick Hunters can have a better chance at attacking."
Spy: "I shall take this into account." He brushes off his suit. "Don't want to accidentally blow up all the... security systems... only to leave that unfinished."
Garrick nods once, going over the battle plan. "Alright. This is how we're going to DO it. The Engineer is going to construct a bomb, which we're going to push into position of the main base and detonate once it's there. Spy, you're going to be up first. Get in there, find the location of the main base, and report back to us as best you can. If you can't report back, I'll assume you find some way to signal us. Once we know, do what you do best. Engineer, do whatever you need to do to keep the bomb entact and the exit point clear."
Engineer: "Yes. The difficulty will be... pushing it, actually. The bomb cannot be prematurely detonated by an outside force."
Julian: "...So is there some kinda track we're pushin' this on or somethin'? Or is it just a bomb on wheels?"
Engineer: "No rails means it will require at least two people pushing it to keep it moving."
Garrick: "Heavy, Pyro, Demoman. You're going to be on cart duty throughout the whole thing. Keep that thing moving no matter what."
Engineer: "Obviously, you can't shoot people with your hands full. So, no offense, but who's least likely to kill rampaging robots?"
Rinith: "I can cast with my mind alone, though I'm slow at it..."
Deloth sweatdrops and raises a hand, taking off his gloves.
Heavy: "Yeah, I will be shooting the little robot things with my huge gun."
Garrick: "...alright... Deloth, Rinith. You two will be pushing the bomb."
Soldier: "Those fools will rue the day they ever met a real soldier!"
Garrick: "The Heavy, Pyro, and Demoman will cover you."
Julian: "I'd want the dudes with fire an' guns' an' shit to be usin' it. So yeah, no objections here."
Aribar: "I have electrical spells, which typically does well against ro... Nevermind, I just realized how laughable it would be for me to push that thing."
Engineer: "Yeah, one arm is rather... insufficient..."
Garrick: "The rest of us... Questers who aren't Deloth and Rinith, the Soldier, Medic, and Scout... we're on Panzer duty."
Engineer: "For similar reasons, the Scout will... apparently be out to fetch the 'Panzer' remains."
Medic: "Ach. I will keep ze Scout alive."
Garrick: "He's a bloody bullet. The fastest I've seen."
Julian: "Faster than me, even."
Scout: "I'll smash those chucklehead's circuitry in, man."
Deloth pops his tentacles and switches his swords to their grip. "Technically, I could attack and push, but it'd probably be rather wild."
Garrick: "I figure as soon as we find the CPU, the Scout runs it back ASAP."
Scout: "They may be made of metal, but how many stop signs have you seen take a baseball and not wobble?"
Garrick: "Alright. Are we all agreed? Any objections or questions?"
Digifanatic: "Watch over Panzer... pretty straightforward."
Deloth: "Rinith, you need one of my swords, just in case?"
Dragoshi: "No objections here."
Garrick: "We get in, find Panzer, Scout gets her out. Once she's out, we push that bomb right on in, get out, and blow it."
Julian: "Aside from wonderin' why we're focusin' on Panzer insteada takin' out the Mavs, I'm good."
Rinith: "If I could hold it I'd say yes, I will be fine with my magic for now."
Garrick: "It's the right thing to do, Julian... besides, apparently the virus she holds is more deadly in their hands than it would be normally."
Scout: "No objections here."
Garrick nods, then looks to the Spy. "How long do you need?"
Spy: "Well, I will go in first, and... I will flick a cigarette into the pipe when I have finished. If I do not manage to do so... do not enter the pipe. I cannot guarantee but I need to find what is there and break several security installations. So it will be easier to see."
Garrick nods, then turns to the Sniper.
Sniper: "Eh, I'll cover all of you as usual."
Garrick: "There are snipers out there as well. Sniper-bots or something... take those out first."
Sniper: "Hah, I bet they don't know the half of real man's sniping."
Garrick: "Alright... lock and load. We're coming down on the pipe. Any last minute prep, do it now."
Metal Man (GM): He reads his spy book. The Questers land by the pipe, in a small clearing that has been made in the forest.
Garrick powers down the ship, putting it in standby mode, then steps out and up to the pipe.
Deloth gets out of the ship and walks over to the pipe.
Metal Man (GM): Since it is now landed, the Spy walks out, flicking his cigarette.
Spy: "I'll be back in a moment." He walks into the pipe and vanishes.
Garrick pulls out his pistol, checking over it before sliding a fresh mag into it and pulling the slide.
Digifanatic also stands guard near the pipe, waiting for the Spy to finish..
Aribar unsheathes Sunlight and follows Garrick and the others.
Metal Man (GM): And now, if you don't mind, I'll show you what the spy does.
Julian just gets along, toting his equipment bag.*
Dragoshi: *Moseys on along, Blaster in one hand, Bread in the other.*
Metal Man (GM): On the other side of the pipe. So, as they marvel at the not-an-anti-pipe, the Spy appears on the other side. He wanders through the factory, slowly looking around. He emerges into the forest and becomes invisible. He wanders around, seeing some reploids talking around the destroyed building.
Metal Man (GM): One of them, with a large claw, is standing around there, doin' nothing.
Claw: "You let them get away? You could have just landed an entire ship on them."
Henchreploid: "Yeah, but... we didn't expect--"
Claw: *Smacks the henchman.* "No! No more 'didn't expect' nonsense! Just kill them! Or else Vile will have YOU killed instead."
Henchreploid: "Right, right... why did you bring me here again?"
Claw: "They may have left some traces as to where they came from. I get the idea they may have come from further afield than we can reach... but I don't know how they snuck in."
Metal Man (GM): The Spy, idly watches them, remembering their mannerisms. Then he walks off, his cloak losing power fast. He turns into a near-exact copy of the Claw Reploid, wandering into a seemingly empty building. It has four empty pedestals. Vile's hologram appears.
Vile: "Claw, what are you doing in here? This is a trap room."
Claw: "Uh, I just am looking for clues. I thought I might check if they were in here."
Vile: "The camera didn't catch them in here..."
Claw: "Well, they could have damaged it. Just give me a sec."
Vile: "Going to actually check a sensible place... odd... but it's good to see you aren't all talk."
Metal Man (GM): The hologram vanishes. The Spy snickers as he places bizarre boxes on the pedestals and camera. Due to the nature of the sensors, they are disabled silently and Vile has no clue what happened. The Spy walks out as that building is basically rendered defenseless. But of course, it was empty anyway. He enters another one. Vile appears, then waves it off as being "More investigations." The Spy investigates it with more sappers, which subsequently blast its defenses. But the Spy is now becoming tired, as it seems like there are more of these anonymous, cloned buildings than stars in the sky. He looks back and sees Claw point at a building in the distance. Sure enough, that one is even more ruined than the others. He wanders in there, beating the Hench-reploid into the building. Here he is much more careful... as it has a wide opening hall WITH statues in it. Rather than sap it immediately, he simply walks around.
Vile: *Hologram.* "What are you doing in here, then? We know they didn't come in here. They would have died by my hand like that other fool did had they gotten that close."
Claw: "Uh... I've come to drop off my findings."
Vile: "...Okay..." The hologram vanishes.
Metal Man (GM): He sneaks in further and encounters a dead end--a room full of people on computers. He walks out, after having given what seems to be a data disk... then walks out. He sees the Henchreploid nearly up to the building, and no way to get around him. He is... in trouble?
Reploid: "Wait, how'd you get here?"
Spy: "I teleported. Look behind you."
Metal Man (GM): The Reploid looks around.
Reploid: "No, you're still" He gets a sapper to the face and falls over.
Spy: "It is even easier than killing people. Too easy." He kicks the body into the bushes and turns into a mimic of that reploid, and walks back to Claw.
Claw: "What are you back here for?"
Spy: "I encountered a strange man up ahead. He looked just like me and tried to kill me."
Claw: "A man? You could have just killed him. Why, the Questers could be hiding amongst us."
Spy: "I tried, but he nearly killed me."
Metal Man (GM): He points out damage on himself matching what he, the Spy, did to that other guy.
Claw: "Hm? Let me see tha--GACK!"
Metal Man (GM): He falls over, a sapper stuck to his face. The Spy kicks him aside too, not quite able to kill him but confident he won't be a problem.
Spy: "A pity. You have no blood for me to spill, and my knife can't kill you." He walks off, leaving the deactivated reploid in his midst. Vile begins to notice something strange, but figures it is just Claw acting as he usually does.
Metal Man (GM): Back at the Mushroom Kingdom... after what has seemingly been an eternity, the group gets a cigarette flying out on the other end.
Scout: "Man, that weirdo takes his time, doesn't he?"
Garrick stands up, having been leaning against the ship. "Alright, everyone. In we go. Stick to the plan as best you can."
Deloth: "Hey, if he did the job, I don't care how long he took..."
Julian: "Let's get 'em!"
Deloth nods and hops into the pipe, hands free for the bomb. Man, having extra limbs rocks.
Digifanatic: "Whoo!" *jumps.*
Garrick leaps into the pipe as well, frowning and hoping everything goes well.
Dragoshi: "...Let's do this." *Insert warp pipe noise here!*
Julian: *Into the pipe!*
Digifanatic: *into the pipe... yeah.*
Rinith: *pushes the cart.* >.> *has his sword half unsheathed /just/ in case.*
Metal Man (GM): The TF2 guys run into the pipe. They yell their traditional battle cries. And for the sake of simplicity, I'll say everyone made their way trouble-free out of the factory. The Engineer quickly sets up a bomb, seemingly out of thin air. The Spy runs over, wearing a little piece of paper mask with an image of a reploid on it.
Julian emerges from the pipe with the Egg Smasher already drawn.
Deloth gets behind the cart and gets ready to push.
Spy: "The building you want is over there." *He points to a ruined building in the distance.*
Deloth: "Right, got it. Thanks."
Garrick: "Right. Good work, Spy. As soon as you're ready, start backstabbin' stuff. Alright, gentlemen. Let's do this."
Spy: "I will distract any further attempts... and prepare to destroy their security once we get close enough."
Julian: "Let's roll! C'mon!" *To the ruined building!*
Garrick nods to Deloth and Rinith to start pushing, then heads after Julian.
Rinith: *pushes.* >.>
Deloth leans into the cart and starts shoving, with all his strength, and all four available arms and arm-analogues.
Garrick is pretty much booking it toward the building in question..
Metal Man (GM): The group begins pushing the bomb slowly towards the building.
Julian is running like a person who runs to the ruined building where Panzer is allegedly being held.*
Metal Man (GM): They are flanked by the Demo Man, Pyro, and Heavy. The others are waiting for the Questers to get in range, with the spy in first. The building is only slightly larger and twice as destroyed as the others. It makes one question why it needs to be blown up yet again.
Engineer: "That's mighty odd..." He keeps on walking, since there ain't much he can do while you're moving.
Garrick is nowhere near the Engineer, so... meh.
Deloth: "Well... not much we can do about it... oof."
Metal Man (GM): The groups make it all the way up to the building. They're actually together all at once... since it would appear their interests are together. The Spy nods as they're just outside.
Spy: "I have checked. All the others are decoys. This is it. I will go... knock down the house for you."
Metal Man (GM): The Engineer starts building a turret.
Garrick: "Alright, get in there."
Julian: "If that's what you gotta do."
Metal Man (GM): The Spy walks in. A few explosions occur.
Engineer: "All right... now we just have to get in ourselves."
Metal Man (GM): The door is just wide enough to push the bomb in. It is still eerily quiet. The building itself is long; So apparently the challenge will be... pushing it through the building.
Dragoshi: *Goes in first. Best to check before you send in your hugeass deathbomb. rite?*
Deloth starts shoving again, sweating.
Garrick moves in as well, frowning... "This isn't right... I thought they would be swarming the place..."
Metal Man (GM): Walking in, Dragoshi soon sees what the silence was about.
Digifanatic: *takes a look.*
Metal Man (GM): The eight statues have been disarmed by electrical shocks. The Spy even hit the next room... but something huge hurled him out of it entirely, killing him.
Engineer: "What coulda done that?"
Garrick: "Not sure..."
Metal Man (GM): Then the Questers hear the walking of very heavy equipment.
Julian: "I got an idea..."
Metal Man (GM): A mech about 7 feet tall walks out.
Julian: "Somethin' we're gonna have to fight."
Digifanatic: *kinda quietly.* "I'd say."
Metal Man (GM): Vile sits in the controls, staring at the group and your bomb.
Vile: "You are quite persistent. But persistence is foolish when what you seek is impossible."
Garrick: "...well, fuck..."
Deloth: "Uh... this... isn't what it looks like."
Metal Man (GM): It has a brand new paint job. And two hands with spikes ready to smash everything to pieces.
Vile: "What are you here for? There is no gain for humans destroying this place. Reploidkind rules this continent... and you are obviously not from here. So as much as it pains me not to kill all of you... ...If there is something you want besides destroying me, I can accept a mild dishonor on my record for saving myself a large battle."
Engineer: "Hmph. A big mecha is all you got? We can take that."
Vile: "Yes. You could."
Metal Man (GM): The room lights up, staticy, but it's still a holo-effect.
Vile: "It's a good thing I saved the holo-emitters."
Metal Man (GM): The engineer looks to Garrick. He seems ready to fight Vile.
Deloth: "Alright, quick. Drop the bomb, or keep pushing or what?"
Soldier: "A bunch of flashy lights and a huge mecha? Is that seriously all you have? Hiding behind machines won't save you from explosions!"
Garrick frowns, his eyes narrowing at the huge mech... then he smirks.
Julian: "I'm thinkin' we just kick its ass."
Garrick: "You think right, Julian. RUSH 'EM!"
Dragoshi: "...yeah, that sounds good."
Vile: "Do your worst." The hologram powers up, and... MEGA BATTLE.
Metal Man (GM): Vile sits there calmly... The TF2 guys go to test what is possible for Vile's mecha. Starting out, the Engineer begins building a sentry gun. The Demoman fires a bomb at the mecha. *BOOM* It takes damage. The Soldier fires a rocket. It misses. The Pyro fires a Flare at it. *SPLOOSH* Vile gets burned. The Medic... stands by. The Scout shoots a baseball at it. It bounces off the mech, slowing it down for the next attack. From the Heavy. It is then riddled by thousands of bullets. Taking a ton of damage.
Deloth winces. "Ooh, that's gonna leave some dings in the paint."
Metal Man (GM): The Sniper is outside. He doesn't do anything. The Dead Spy looks like an endangered crab.
Digifanatic decides to start in with a Light Ray before coming in point blank with an Icy Kick, stepping back for one more Ray.
Metal Man (GM): LR1 hits. Nothing else, seemingly.
Dragoshi: *Starts off with the usual three-shot barrage from his Egg Blaster.*
Metal Man (GM): Both hit. The mecha takes them. One after another. It's friggin' stacked with armor.
Vile: "Hit me harder, you weak humans. Your combined fire isn't working."
Deloth: "Here, have some acid. Good for the complexion." *He flings a trio of acid Eles at the mech.*
Garrick glances around first... he looks for those holo-emitters.
Metal Man (GM): They're not in this room. They seem sorta stretched.
Garrick will skid to the left, away from the others before unloading an entire clip into the guy, his bullets sparking with electricity.
Metal Man (GM): The first hits. The other two glance off its thick armor.
Vile: "You are... so powerful. Why... you have gotten me." He begins to glow. "Aaaahhhhh ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh--" ...Wait a minute, that's not an explosion of him dying. "AHHH AH AH AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Lightning strafes the entire room and threatens everyone! Ahhhhh!!!!
Julian manages to not be fried by lightning. How? I dunno.
Metal Man (GM): *BZZZORK* They get zapped. Well, most of them. The Scout leaps over it.
Rinith: *GTFO of the way.*
Metal Man (GM): His mech then slides and leaps up at the TF2 people. It doesn't stop moving as it flies at the Heavy. The Heavy is run over and slammed into the wall, as is the mecha. The Heavy is killed... but the mecha gets shot up, as the Heavy doesn't go down without fighting. Vile takes more damage.
Vile: "Pathetic humans. Can't even withstand a 50 miles per hour head-on collision!"
Metal Man (GM): Vile then turns to Garrick and starts trying to punch him with the mecha's huge hands. After that he would also go to attack Dragoshi with a punch.
Dragoshi: *And it does connect.*
Metal Man (GM): Ow.
Dragoshi: *Ow indeed.*
Garrick is already really on the ropes with this one...
Metal Man (GM): He then goes after the Scout, for hitting him with that baseball. He's got plenty, since he's up against an entire army. The Scout gets bloodied but not killed. He then fires a shot from his stun cannon at Dragoshi. The mecha's shiny armor glints suspiciously. It would seem hitting it is not the best target. Dragoshi takes... and loses speed on all his moves a short while. The mecha leaps back to where it was, its fists glinting with blood.
Vile: "The Zero Virus will not be stopped by mere humans."
Dragoshi: "...hey, guys?"
Dragoshi: "...why are we focusing on the armor and not on the pilot again?"
Julian, actually thinking for once, realizes that he probably isn't going to get anywhere trying to punch the mech to death. He examines their surroundings... long, walled, corridor right?
Metal Man (GM): Yeah. And there's a room behind the mech. And the mech can't block the entire hallway.
Julian: *Checks if the mech has an open cockpit.*
Metal Man (GM): Yes. However, with how heavy he is and how he sits, he may as well be a part of the mecha at the moment. The building around him does present an interesting case... and there's the question of what the spy was doing. The bomb is still sitting around. The group could use it against him. But that would forfeit blowing up the entire base. So choose wisely.
Julian nods, then runs at the mech with the Egg Smasher ready to go all out! Right before he reaches his target, Julian leaps towards a wall and attempts to push off it in a wall jump to get up and around Vile, smashing him in the head with the Egg Smasher as he sails overhead. Julian then proceeds to dash for the room behind Vile to see if he can find anything useful.
Metal Man (GM): The mecha turns to stop Julian, only to be hammered back.
Metal Man (GM): He can't bother chasing Julian because then he'd open himself up to attack by... an entire army. Julian runs into the room back there. It's actually an empty room, with a few blinking projectors. However... they ain't doing anything, as most of the room has been destroyed by the Spy. There's a door further into the complex. To avoid drawing attention to this, Vile doesn't even... say anything.
Julian: "I see what you're doin' here..." *Projector? Meet HAMMER.*
Metal Man (GM): Julian smashes them. All it does is eliminate a blue glow. The mecha... is still strong. And Julian... has finished his turn. But on the plus side... He's out of range of any attacks from Vile.
Vile: "Like I would need a make-believe mecha to defeat you."
Julian yells back into the room with Vile after he's done. "BROKE YOUR STUPID CRAP, MORON!" *Julian then continues further into the base.*
Vile: "...There is nothing there."
Metal Man (GM): Well. Or so he says.
Dragoshi: "I don't know..."
Metal Man (GM): We'll find out later.
Dragoshi: "If you really didn't need one..."
Rinith: -.- *Looks for more stuff to blow up.*
Dragoshi: "Then why didn't you just... I don't know."
Metal Man (GM): Just a mecha. In this room, at least.
Dragoshi: "Not bother?"
Vile: "You are predictable like a book. Becoming distracted by shiny objects and destroying useless things because you jump to conclusions. That is exactly why you humans are inferior and will be destroyed."
Deloth: "And kicking your ass. Don't forget that."
Dragoshi: "..." *holding in laughter.*
Rinith: -.- "Well guys, you may need another pusher for the cart" *Considers whether he can run into that next room. Also, sword's drawn now.*
Metal Man (GM): Yes, it is possible to run into the next room.
Rinith: *Checks for any more projectors.*
Metal Man (GM): No more projectors behind him. They didn't seem to do anything, anyway.
Rinith: *will just run up and STABSTAB at Vile's face.* =3 *FACE STAB BITCH.*
Metal Man (GM): Rinith hit him once, his visor blocking the first stab.
Engineer: "I don't know, guys. He just killed Heavy in one hit and nearly offed Scout. Either we blow him up with the bomb now or run past him. Of course..." He motions and the others continue shelling him, since that buys some time to think.
Metal Man (GM): The soldier fires a rocket. Hit. Demo-man fires a bomb. Hit. The Medic heals the Scout to full. The Scout fires at Vile with a sawed off shotgun.
Deloth: "Can you build another bomb?"
Metal Man (GM): It's a massive mecha. Can't knock it back more than an inch. The Pyro fires another flare. The mecha burns. But even on fire it keeps functioning.
Engineer: "Not with this person attacking us. He'd surely kill me before it was done."
Garrick: "We can try and keep it busy, hopefully Julian and Rinith can find a way to stop it... I'm hurting, though... Can you guys keep him busy..?"
Rinith: "I'll try damn it!"
Deloth: "That's what I'm trying to do, Garrick."
Rinith: "Just that face stabs don't seem to work well on mechanics like flesh."
Digifanatic decides to play things a lot more conservatively this turn... he gives barriers for Deloth and Garrick, and aiming a Light Ray to the cockpit.
Vile: "Fools, someone even broke my visor. They died."
Metal Man (GM): Hit.
Dragoshi: *Continues his barrage, but with one shot less... but with more of it being shooting Vile instead of his mech's armor.* :V
Metal Man (GM): Hit, hit.
Deloth aims and tosses three Ice Eles at Vile. Boring, I know, but it's an easy and non-missable.
Garrick grunts as he leaps toward the mech as well, sliding under it as he goes for a CQC as he runs.
Metal Man (GM): Hit.
Garrick grabs it hard by the leg as he swings under it, using his knife to cut something that looks important before moving on.
Vile: "Not bad. ...You have dealt approximately as much damage as Mega Man X could do in half this time. Of course, your lack of giant death lasers has been noted. Allow me to educate you on the finer points of being exploded."
Metal Man (GM): He fires a bunch of grenades everywhere, which also threatens Garrick on his way out as well as the TF2 guys and the other people in the room. But not Julian. He watches the grenade fly out the window.
Deloth: "Well. I feel MUCH smarter."
Dragoshi: "... I feel like a fucking genius!"
Rinith: "... really?"
Vile: "I think I will try something a bit more accurate."
Metal Man (GM): And the Sniper is outside.
Vile: "You give your friends barriers, do you not?" He turns to Digi. "How nice of you."
Metal Man (GM): He then goes to brutally run over Digi. *SMASH*
Digifanatic: *Oh snap, KO.*
Deloth winces. "Oh, no, not Digi..."
Rinith: "... damn it!"
Vile: "And you... want to kick me." He looks to Deloth. "I'm afraid I will just have to punch you to death." He slides over, then goes to basically punch Deloth. Repeatedly.
Metal Man (GM): The barrier smashes, as he punches again. Deloth takes a bunch of damage as he is smashed into the ground.
Metal Man (GM): Still alive?
Metal Man (GM): He decides these troubling signs of life must end, as he goes to flatten Deloth into the ground. *SMASH.*
Vile: "Who else wants to 'kick my ass?'"
Deloth: *I'm sorry. Deloth is a gooey stain right now. Please leave a message after I get poured into a Jello mould.*
Engineer: "Don't worry. Like an idiot, he let us li... I mean we are doomed! Oh no!"
Metal Man (GM): Julian doesn't have much of an idea of what's going on, as he's in an entire 'nother room. Going to the very far back of the complex?
Metal Man (GM): Julian wanders into the main room. It looks like a buncha stuff hid into the floor. In the corner is Sigma's body. And also Panzer's. It's like some dead Maverick storage corner. Or maybe Vile is a lazy bum.
Julian: "Oh hey, Panzer."
Metal Man (GM): The Spy messed up the security, such that Julian can just walk in. Panzer's mostly intact. Just a bit fragged. Julian can leap right out a semi-high window if he wishes. Of course, it has some bars on it... But that wouldn't stop Julian... or would it?
Julian: *Looks for any kind of laser cutting tool in the room.*
Metal Man (GM): No. Just a bunch of weird notches in the floor. Oh, I forgot. Sigma has a broken saber. Totally broken.
Metal Man (GM): Julian grabs the saber. It is in two pieces. Julian isn't an Engineer, but maybe he can just smack it together and it'll work. Or maybe it'll laser off his hand. Depends if he's in a hurry to get out or not.
Julian: *Nothing that can't be fixed. Figuring that the guys in the other room would buy him time, Julian attempts to put the two lightsaber pieces together in a way that wouldn't laser his hand off.*
Metal Man (GM): Julian succeeds. It turns on.
Julian: *Is awesome! Goes to awesomely cut the bars off that semi-high window.*
Metal Man (GM): It'll take some time to cut the way out. Enough time for the others to decide what they're going to do. Or not do. Garrick is also out of range of further Vile reprisals.
Engineer: "...Anyone... going to tell me whether to blow him up with the bomb or not?"
Dragoshi: "...yeah, at this point that sounds like a good idea."
Engineer: "We won't be able to wreck this place for good if we do it, though... still okay with you?"
Rinith: "I'll distract him, get what ever you need done done now" *climbs on the mech for more FACE STAB.*
Metal Man (GM): Hit, hit. Rinith succeeds in distracting Vile.
Dragoshi: "... ...yes. I'm sure. ...besides. It might be best if we destroyed it with our own hands. Just to make sure any loose ends are tied up."
Engineer: "All right..." He shoves the bomb at Vile.
Metal Man (GM): It flies into him and explodes violently.
Rinith: *hangs on the mech for for fa-- oh you all get it now. He doesn't mind taking friendly fire now at the moment either.*
Metal Man (GM): After the huge explosion... Vile is standing there, surrounded by wreckage. His jetpack powers on.
Vile: "About time you actually damaged me!"
Metal Man (GM): Rinith is now embedded in the wall, having taken damage from friendly fire.
Rinith: *cough.* "Did... my part."
Metal Man (GM): The TF2 guys go wild trying to shoot Vile, thinking that since he has no mecha he'll die faster. Miss. Miss. Hit, *BONK. The Engie's sentry gun fires at Vile. It misses, as Vile flies around like a jerk.
Dragoshi: *And, Dragoshi mutters under his breath...* "Bread..." *And with that, he zooms towards Vile, the Bread in hand, and attempts to hit Vile upside the head with it twice!*
Metal Man (GM): I forgot he was dazed by the ball there. Bread 1 hits. Bread 2 misses.
Dragoshi: *Oh hey, it's Dragoshi's turn now. Ca-raaaazeh.* *You know the drill. Three blaster shots to the face. It's like a scientific formula by now.*
Metal Man (GM): He flies out of the way. He's flying around the place like a buzzed out freak. The Scout would be proud.
Garrick skid to a stop after hearing that explosion... looking back. "...oh, dammit..."
Metal Man (GM): He'd see Vile dodging all the pistol shots.
Rinith: *in a wall.*
Metal Man (GM): And Digi and Deloth were smashed to bits.
Deloth: *small wibbly pile of blood paste.*
Metal Man (GM): And the Heavy.
Garrick glances back, hoping Julian is doing what he needs to do... he grunts, turning back, raising his pistol and unloading another series of shots.
Metal Man (GM): They served their purpose--apparently, a distraction while Julian ran on in. Flying around like a rocket-pixie, Vile is hit once. His luck has improved greatly from earlier. Vile is fatigued from the shot, though.
Vile: "Someone who can actually hit me... well... I don't want that."
Metal Man (GM): He flies at Garrick, chucking a grenade at him.
Garrick gets blasted...
Metal Man (GM): *BLAM* Shield breaks. He then lands and goes to just punch Garrick to death. Only three punches, however. Garrick gets punched twice.
Garrick goes down, slamming into the ground and not getting up again.
Julian: *And Julian has cut the bars off the window.*
Metal Man (GM): Julian cut the bars of the window open. He sees the way out, but... Panzer weighs a ton.
Julian: *Looks for... reploid-launching catapults.*
Metal Man (GM): Catapults? Maybe if Julian made one, but there's no raw material. Of course, Panzer's essential components are neatly separated out on the floor. Julian could just take them and leave the body. Vile obviously separated them out so she wouldn't revive. There's even a note--
Note: 'I don't know how it does it, it keeps trying to repair itself. DO NOT TOUCH'
Julian: *Sure, we'll do that. Julian scoops those up into his equipment bag and exits through the conveniently-placed window, lightsaber in tow.*
Metal Man (GM): Panzer also has some equipment. It's a tad heavy. Like, doubling up the weapons Julian has.
Julian: *Checks what kind of equipment it is.*
Metal Man (GM): Two sniper rifles. One shinier than the other.
Julian: *Psssh. What use does Julian have for sniper rifles?*
Metal Man (GM): None at all.
Metal Man (GM): Leaping out the window, then? It's a safe drop... for a Quester. Or a reploid, in fact. Something they have in common.
Julian: *Sure, why not. Julian exits the window with style.*
Metal Man (GM): Julian escapes, nobody goes after him. Vile is on the ground, his fists bloodied from punching out Garrick. However, he is in defensive stance and ready to fly everywhere. Like one of those flies that are hard to swat.
Rinith: *Looks for a way to make a grappling hook.*
Metal Man (GM): In the vast rubble of the room there is some metal chain laying around. It would require some work to make useful.
Metal Man (GM): Rinith fastens it together.
Rinith is just hoping to keep him ON THE GROUND.
Metal Man (GM): Close... but not close. Then... Aribar appears!
Aribar appears in a flash of light; an extremely late Rejoin spell. He points his sword towards Vile and it charges up with magic and electricity.* "I apologize for being late; I'll make it up to everyone now." *Five bolts of electricity lance towards the reploid and nail him right in the chest!* *Elec Ele x 5!*
Metal Man (GM): He is hit. It's a start, but he has a bit of health... thankfully, less than that mecha the Questers had to blow up. Vile is attacked by the sentry gun. Then he is attacked by bombs. He dodges one, the other deals damage. Er. The rocket hits, but not the Demobomb. The flare hits him. The Engie goes to build a dispenser. The Scout's just ticked off and goes to hit him with the bat directly. He bashes him for more damage.
Dragoshi: *Continues trying to shoot Vile in the face! There's no way this plan can fail!*
Metal Man (GM): His luck rave over, all hit.
Vile: "It is sad it took this many of you to threaten me. One of me... equals 13 of you. And I like that number. But as you can see, there is nothing here for you to destroy without your bomb."
Metal Man (GM): The building begins to rumble.
Vile: "Don't worry, I've planted some bombs of my own."
Aribar looks about and sees all of the destruction about him..* "I hope you know that the record is still in our favor; we've beaten you twice."
Metal Man (GM): He turns blood red and flies at Aribar.
Dragoshi: .oO(...Wow. That was a quick and easy way to anger him.)
Metal Man (GM): Aribar is slammed into the wall . He then goes to fire a grenade point blank into Aribar. Weird traces of Zero follow him.
Aribar: *... Tries to use Kinesis against Vile.*
Metal Man (GM): Aribar magically throws Vile back, buuut he also takes damage from a fragmentation grenade. Vile gets thrown back. His switch already detonated, he is buried in rubble. The entire building, or at least the above-ground part, is now collapsing.
Engineer: "I don't think it takes 11 PHDs to see we need to leave!"
Rinith: "Right on it..."
Dragoshi: "Way ahead of ya." *Quickly high-tails it outta here.*
Dragoshi: *...after picking up Ari's corpse.*
Metal Man (GM): The Questers run out as the building suffers a controlled implosion.
Rinith: *picks up Deloths... well tries to grab what he can of dead Questers besides Aribar who is gotten by Drago.
Metal Man (GM): Strangely unlike the sort of explosion that would have destroyed it from the Questers, it does not level the computer systems or the complex.
Rinith: *grabs Garrick.*
Metal Man (GM): Unfortunately for Panzer (and her big mouth) her sniper rifle is now buried in the rubble. The group makes their way out of the place, the people who died in the room with Vile all being gathered to boot.
Metal Man (GM): The group is now back at the pipe, several people short (alive-wise) and sort of beaten up, with the dead people also being a lot to drag.
Julian nonchalantly walks back to the group after making it out... only to see most of the team dead. "The fuck happened?"
Dragoshi: "...yeah, we should prolly' clean this up later."
Engineer: "Well, that was a bloody mess."
Julian: "You suckas set the bomb off EARLY, didn't ya?"
Engineer: "Had no choice, his mecha was invincible."
Sniper: "It's a good thing I stayed behind."
Julian: "Goddamn... 'least I got what's lefta Panz." *Holds up his equipment bag.* "Dunno if that means much seein' as how we still got the Mavs to take care of."
Rinith: "I'm surprised I survived that damn blast being as close as I was..." >.>
Sniper: "Some robot with a huge claw got up and walked towards your position. He was set to flank you from behind and kill you all."
Dragoshi: "...oh jeeze. That guy's still alive?"
Metal Man (GM): The reploid who beat up the people in the airstrip side-mission a while ago.
Sniper: "Let's get out of here. They're sending in their troops to our position. Seems the Spy wasn't perfect at sapping their relays. I don't blame him, there's too many buildings."
Metal Man (GM): The group, thus... gets out of there. Back at the Mushroom Kingdom... The group is revived. Dead people included.
Julian: "Engie, how long s'it gonna take you to build a new bomb?" *He says as he exits the pipe in the MK.*
Engineer: "Well, no time flat, except as long as that guy is there we can't really sneak one past him."
Julian presumably dumped the Panzer parts out of his bag before she reformed.
Engineer: "If he has any more mecha, each of those can eat an entire base bomb and not die."
Metal Man (GM): Panzer is rebuilt by the Engineer. Her new body is the same, although missing all the equipment.
Digifanatic: *wakes up.* "...That fight was not cool."
Metal Man (GM): And the Maverick Virus.
Deloth groans. "Oh, man... I feel like I've got pieces of leg bone in my mouth..."
Panzer more or less meanders off to reset parameters.
Garrick grunts as he wakes up as well, glancing to the others.
Julian: "Well, we got the first part done..."
Engineer: "Wonder if your leader wishes to try that again." He rubs his head.
Panzer looks up, data windows popping up and out of her visuals. "So. My rifles. Where are they?"
Aribar: "Whte Lightni--... Where's Vile?"
Digifanatic: "Excuse me, Engineer, but do you folks at BLU specialize in healing items, aside from what Medic uses?"
Deloth coughs up a few bone chips and stands up woozily. "...Did ANYONE see how I was able to revive from THAT?!"
Rinith: "I don't even quite know if I grabbed all of you when I got you and Garrick out."
Digifanatic: "The same way Mario revives when he gets hit by a Thwomp."
Julian: "Gone, I guess."
Deloth: "Don't worry, Rinith. I haven't been all here for a while. Ha ha. Now excuse me, I need to go find a quiet spot to throw up in for a while." *He staggers off, very unsteadily.*
Aribar remembers what happened.. "How did Vile get so strong?"
Julian: "So... now what?"
Digifanatic: .oO(Well, Deloth, if nothing else, we know how they got the name 'Vile'...but he's not anymore.)
Panzer assumes they were left behind, being no one answered her. She stands and wanders the rest of the way off, leaving the group.
Julian: *Answered.* >:( "We wanna try assaultin' the base again?"
Garrick stands up, brushing past Julian and the others to go over to Panzer, walking directly in front of her path.
Digifanatic: "I dunno..."
Panzer pauses. "I deactivated, learned my lesson, leave me alone. I have several things to reset. Get out of my way."
Aribar: "I got killed less than a minute after I appeared. I don't quite think so..."
Panzer: "I'm solving our little conflict of interest here by leaving you briefly to lead your... People."
Engineer: "The same happened with Heavy."
Panzer: "Go lead and console them."
Julian: *Is taken aback at the brushed-offness.* "Hey man, I told you we oughta forget about her."
Garrick: "I don't know how you are, now that the virus is out of you, but I'm going to make something perfectly, crystal clear."
Rinith: "Can we carry some pocket explosives with us?"
Heavy: "Large mecha crashing into people no good!"
Garrick: "A lot of good people died so we could get your ass out of there. We barely made it through as it was."
Deloth: *weakly.* "And suffered revival sickness, too..."
Deloth goes back to his dry heaving. I'll spare you any more details.
Rinith: "I need to rest a bit myself..."
Panzer speaks in a low, calm voice for once, not exploding. "You are not im my command parameters. They died. Not my problem. If I had wanted to live, per se, I would have escaped, or made an attempt to call you. Besides. You don't like me, nor seem to have use for me thus. Why keep someone like me around? It's a conundrum."
Garrick: "Who the hell said I didn't like you?"
Panzer: "You did."
Garrick: "You're a good fighter. Your additude sucks."
Panzer: "Because none of you are listed as being either in my unit, nor in my direct chain of command."
Heavy: "Well, we technically not die. Only temporarily cease to live!"
Dragoshi: "Pretty much."
Garrick: "So either join the Questers, or leave. And we won't do anything to save you again."
Dragoshi: "It's like... a stumbling block. Death, I mean."
Deloth: "Speak for yourself."
Panzer: "I will never require saving again. I miscalculated. I thought Vile would hear me out. Everything was going according to plan. I failed to scan him to see he was infected with the Zero Virus."
Spy: "I was going to say--he survived a direct Sapper attack and did some impossible movements before smashing me into the wall He said something of 'I am greater than Sigma ever was.' Whoever that is."
Panzer: "The Zero Virus was supposed to be ... Unpossessable."
Dragoshi: "If you, by... some bit of luck manage to sap him again... Tell me where he is. So I can off him myself."
Spy: "Well, that's the problem. The sapper didn't work. Nothing did. He was... too strong."
Dragoshi: "I... see."
Spy: "I shot him and made a hole in him. He kept moving."
Panzer: "It was created hundreds of years ago. It is a legendary thing. I have reason to suspect he has a dilluted version of it... I still believe the true version can never be distilled and filtered out of the Sigma Virus. I must tell Zero and X when I get the chance, they might not know what they're really dealing with, and I may still be able to do something about all this."
Garrick: "Alright, but don't expect any more help from us unless we're paid. In full." *He walks away with that, his temper flaring.*
Deloth sighs. "One big happy family..."
Panzer: "Light infected me with a null program, if I can copy it and reset it's parameters I might be able to cure it and reduce Vile's threat." She watches Garrick. "Why are you mad at me?"
Garrick turns, his eyes glinting with fire as he grips one hand into a fist.
Panzer simply waits for an answer. "Well?"
Deloth steps back. That... that is the look of a man who is not afraid to kill.
Metal Man (GM): The TF2 guys mill about, resting after that crazy battle.
Digifanatic walks back over to the TF2 guys...
Garrick: "Because, Panzer. As far as I've read from the old stories and log entries, you've been with the Questers for ages. You've worked with them, accomplished missions and so forth. I considered you a Quester until you started going off handle, then you go off and get killed, and we go to save you, and all you can say is, 'Eh, I wanted to die anyway.'...?"
Digifanatic: "Sounds like you missed me the first time... do you guys specialize in healing items, aside from what the Medic uses? We'd probably be very appreciative of you if you were able to sell us some things."
Engineer: "No, but I'll call some other contractors and see what we can find."
Panzer watches Garrick carefully, still speaking without much emotion. "Not quite. I can't tell you about my reasoning for all of that. New information came to light about my last Command structure. That could not be ignored. That was listed in my parameters. I saw myself as the sort of leader in the field, if you will, for all that time. That time is ended and you seem to be leading them into missions just fine."
Metal Man (GM): They can eat one, but they don't last long enough to be carried everywhere.
Digifanatic: "Ah, oh well. Thanks anyway." *walks back to the group.*
Metal Man (GM): Strangely, the sky shakes and a single butterknife falls into the ground, blade down.
Deloth picks it up and looks at it.
Panzer: "I can understand your anger, I assure you. However..." She ends it there, not noticing too much. She just watches him. She's different somehow.
Aribar: "That knife looks familiar. Hrm."
Garrick stares back at her for a long moment, not seeing the knife either... he slumps and sighs a bit. "...let's... pack up and head back to the stadium, for now. You can go and do whatever you want, Panzer." *He turns and makes to enter the ship. He'll fly off and do whatever if asked.*
Deloth sighs. "Panz... may I say something?"
Dragoshi: *Just... stares at the knife. If he can see it.*
Panzer collectively gathers all the stored battle info on Vile and sends a copy off to Hunter HQ. She looks to Deloth. "Yes?"
Metal Man (GM): It has a single monogrammed m on it. There's two wire leads on it, both broken. 77.
Deloth: "You're a good Quester, okay? I know that. And we could still use your help."
Panzer: "I will continue to assist you now that I have viable cause."
Deloth: "Besides, you left souvenir Magnum fragments in my head."
Panzer: "The only reason I assisted you in the past over the years was to get back here, to my unit and my Commander. That is lost for now. For how long though." She smiled a little.
Deloth narrows his eyes slightly. "...Any reason why you're not frothing at the mouth and attempting to kill me?"
Panzer: "You're non-threatening. And I have no rifles."
Deloth: *blink, blink...*
Panzer: "I could eviscerate you if you wished though."
Metal Man (GM): Panzer's eyes have no purple in them.
Deloth: "Alright, seriously, what the hell got jarred back into place when you got blown up? You're a lot less... killy."
Panzer: "Nothing. I am running at full capacity, processing one Teraflop per minute." *thinks.* "Think of it as an old computer being rebuilt, in a sense."
Deloth: "...You lost me at processing."
Digifanatic: "Yeah, just trust her on that word..."
Panzer: "I can't put it into a simpler analogy."
Digifanatic: "It sounds as if after she got 'killed' or whatever happened, yeah, she is basically rebuilt."
Deloth just sighs. "Get in the ship, okay? I'll try to smooth things over with Garrick later."
Panzer: "I'll interfere with the equipment right now. Possibly disable the ship. I need to stay away from it for a few more minutes."
Digifanatic: *walks to the ship.* "Don't mess the ship up."
Deloth: "Fine. Get in when you can."
Panzer: "Very well."
Deloth heads to the ship, sits down, and begins rubbing the sides of his head. "Digi, why are we suddenly in Wonderland?"
Digifanatic: "I don't know..."
Deloth looks up and glances out the window.
Digifanatic: "Maybe you need some more aspirin or something."
Deloth: "...swear I just heard something."
Metal Man (GM): Deloth sees what he thought was a dog exploding.
Panzer waits for them to get into the ship and smiles. "Humans really are as pathetic as they look. You had a valid point, Vile."
Digifanatic: .oO(Can you still hear this normally?)
Deloth: "YES, Digi."
Digifanatic: "Okay, just checking..."
Deloth: "I need to go clear my head..."
Panzer continues to run all her system processes and finally finishes recalibrating. She shuts down certain things so she won't send off all those EMP pulses and walks into the ship and sits with them in silence.
Deloth: "...I WAS going to go clear my head."
Metal Man (GM): The ship, fully loaded, takes off, as Deloth still has a bizarre headache. ... Deloth sees... Spinning tables... no, he hears them.
Metal Man (GM): It must be the thoughts of... something... Hm. Something he can't see.
Deloth: "The hell?"
Digifanatic: "I swear that one was not me..."
Deloth looks up, trying to determine who's sending those thoughts...
Panzer looks at Del. "What's wrong with you?"
Digifanatic: "Maybe once we get closer to the Stadium they'll go away, whatever they are..."
Metal Man (GM): He hears mumbling and then some sort of noise. He gets a vague image of a smash dex, then suddenly the weird thoughts vanish from his mind-sphere.
Deloth: "Shhhh. Both of you."
Panzer shrugs and looks at Digi. "Can he read minds or something?" She was whispering.
Deloth: "...We're not alone. Guys, as soon as we land, we need to do a thorough search."
Metal Man (GM): They're all thoughts, and only Deloth hears them... and when they're gone, not even he can figure out where this came from.
Deloth: "Somebody's giving me some weird images. Dexes, tables, mumbling..."
Digifanatic: "Okay, Dexes sounds like... maybe one of the two Metal Men?"
Panzer: "Not enough information."
Digifanatic: "Tables, I have no clue... mumbling could be anything."
Panzer: "Tables though. Depends on what kind."
Digifanatic: "Really, what about tables?"
Panzer: "Depends on the table. Like, a table you put things on... Data tables. What else..."
Digifanatic: "Maybe data."
Panzer: "Turn table is the only thing that comes to mind that you might hear. There is a particular form of torture that I know of that involves putting someone on something called a wheel, but it can be vertical or horizontal to form a table. And it could be spun."
Digifanatic: "Not familiar enough with it."
Panzer: "What else. Dexes? Mumbling was it? Dexes might relate to the stadium in some loose shape but I don't think that it would be a direct threat."
Digifanatic: "Yeah... Now, see, we never took Professor Oak back with us when we last hit Kanto."
Panzer: "Mumbling could obviously be anything. Maybe he heard something from the past? If it's from the future I highly doubt it will be noticed at all. No offense, but thinking doesn't seem to be the strong suit of the people here. No one really pays attention to all the little things and the clues that aren't really obvious."
Digifanatic: "And the Maverick Continent is way too far away from it... Heh, sometimes what you said is correct..." *quickly rolls his eyes.*
Panzer: "I know I'm right. What of this RED... No one has told me much about them?"
Digifanatic: "That's a rival faction to the guys we have. Not sure if it's a friendly one or a serious one, but I presume serious."
Panzer: "I see. Another table that I can think of is a time table. Also known as a clock in some situations. It makes noise and clocks spin."
Digifanatic: "I think you're trying to be too abstract..."
Panzer: "Probably. It's hard to figure something out with three unrelated things that make no sense."
Digifanatic: "Yeah... only the Dexes. So... since that Vile is done with... seriously, now what?!"
Panzer: "He's not done with."
Digifanatic: "Well, with all the rubble and stuff I noticed on the walk back to the ship..."
Panzer: "He wouldn't die that easily. Not with that strand of Virus."
Digifanatic: "Meh... then again, a job like this, things like that happen."
Panzer: "I hope he's dead, but at the same turn I hope he isn't."
Digifanatic: "Which one are you hoping more for?"
Panzer: "Him being alive. I still need to talk to him. I should be able to, now that I'm not a threat."
Digifanatic: "Ohhh... Talking about what?"
Panzer: "Not your concern."
Digifanatic: "Never mind!"
Panzer lifts a brow.
Digifanatic: "What? You don't want me to know, I'm doing the polite thing in not asking!"
