Super Smash Quest: Infinity - Story - Chapter 20: The Invisible Dictator
Date: 4:58:26 PM, January 7th; 4:25:45 PM, January 11th, 2011.
Metal Man (GM): The Brawlers et Questers acquired a Cetan Megawarp, mostly by doing a tricky obstacle course that was the damaged ship. They got the Megawarp, even though Metal Man nearly stole it. Of course, now he technically has it in the future, which may be a problem later on. Nevertheless, the group would be in the Assembly room, with Mewtwo looking over a map of Nintendus.
Mewtwo: "I have analyzed the data and determined that the first place for you to look is the old Stadium."
Kaine: *Sighs and leans against a wall.*
Mewtwo: "Specifically, when I sent a camera into the area using our new device, I saw this."
Emmitt: "Where's Kit?"
Kaine: "The... old Stadium!?"
Metal Man (GM): There it is... an image of... the Stadium???
Mewtwo: "This is an imposter stadium. Evil Wolfman appears to have simply built another one when ours left."
Mewtwo: "I have no clue what he's up to, which is where you come in."
Kaine: "She went to be with Alsa's Mewtwo, Emmitt."
Mewtwo: "You are to break in and find out what is going on."
Kesu: "Big bad guy building a stadium?... isn't that a bit cliche?"
Kaine: "Didn't we just deal with this mess on Oddworld?"
Valentine: "There is no such thing as an imposter stadium. It is either better or worse than yours."
Kraela: "It's like he's asking us to invade."
Mewtwo: "From all reports I obtained, the Toad Town has been completely untouched."
Digifanatic: *We'll use Digi this time... too bad Valentine's there to pester him about his bank account!* "Sounds good, Mewtwo."
Mewtwo: "Then the minute I moved the camera closer to the Stadium, it was attacked by these."
Metal Man (GM): An image of Metroids, blurrily and poorly taken, is shown.
Mewtwo: "It doesn't appear to be a world takeover bid. So it must be something... something else, I would guess. The Metroids don't look too tough. Think you can get in, Brawlers and... Questers?"
Kaine: "He's baiting us. We should be able to."
Starr: "I don't like the idea of this either..."
Kraela: "Kaine's right. It's just a dare."
Valentine: "Question is, can you ignore this dare?"
Jet: "This does seem like baiting as well... although is there any way you think we could get in without causing a rukus to start?"
Kraela: "How do we know he's not in there ready to clean our clocks? Like last time?"
Valentine: "A good suggestion but highly unlikely."
Starr: "I'd rather not kick a hornet's nest before I've even had my morning coffee."
Kaine: "He probably is waiting for us to strike. The question is why."
Digifanatic: *Chuckles at Starr's comment, even though he hasn't gotten to know her yet.*
Kesu: "That's all he has done so far? Maybe he's just bored?"
Valentine: "Base of operations. Simple as that. Or do you have more details, Mewtwo?"
Kaine: *Hands Starr a cup of coffee* "Here."
Mewtwo: "I don't know anymore than what you have seen so far."
Starr: ". . ." *She grumbles a bit, and sips it.* "That wasn't the point of my statement, Kaine."
Valentine: "So the first order of operations is to scout the area."
Mewtwo: "Evil Wolfman gives no clues as to his motivations. Although he still has Oddworld completely enslaved and metallicized, he has done nothing more than what you see here to Toad Town's area."
Digifanatic: "As long as they don't suck our faces on us."
AnonyMan: "I propose a scouting mission. We shall ask the residents of Toad Town."
Valentine: "Of course everyone is free to rush in but do count me out if you do."
Mewtwo: "It is up to you what you do when you get there, but sneaking up on the Stadium is probably difficult to impossible, due to the all-present Metroids around it."
AnonyMan: "We should establish a restraining order of sorts on ourselves. How far should we stay from the stadium?"
Digifanatic: "I do like the patience strategy... if only we had a way to teleport in."
Kesu: "Mewtwo can teleport..."
Kraela: "He'll have the place warded. He was the one that set up Ed's place, right?"
Kaine: "I doubt teleporting directly into this... stadium would be any more beneficial than teleorting near it."
Mewtwo: "The camera was attacked once it got within 30 feet of the Stadium."
Valentine: "First we deal with the sentry threat. What are Metroids attracted to?"
Mewtwo: "It is liable he set up Ed's place. The Megawarp couldn't get inside the Stadium."
Digifanatic: *Nods* "Pretty much any form of flesh, Val."
Mewtwo: "Metroids are usually attracted only to lifesigns, but these attacked the camera as well. They were... not acting normally, apparently."
AnonyMan: "100-foot constant distance should be safe and effective."
Kaine: "Thought they were attracted to energy..." *Shrugs.*
Kraela: "I'll fight the freaks, but I have second thoughts about going inside."
Valentine: "Keeping 100 feet away is no better than standing here and talking."
Starr: "Do try to be patient, ma'am. We're trying to figure out a safe way in. A bit of planning goes a long way."
AnonyMan: "For the size of Toad Town, 100 feet wouldn't be that much of a difference. We just need to be able to talk to the residents to scout for knowledge."
Digifanatic: "Exactly, Anony..."
Valentine: "And what would the locals know about the inside?"
Kraela: "Exactly. We don't know what we'd be walking into regardless."
Digifanatic: "Depends on if they were witnesses when Wolf first touched down."
Valentine: "You're free to use the locals as bait though."
AnonyMan: "Even hearsay and hypothesis are valuable at this point in time." *He looks to Driver.* "No. Safety of the locals is important. They're innocent."
Kaine: *Shrugs* "WE need more information before we go in, I will agree with that. But at the same time, I don't know how much information we'll get by talking to the toads."
Starr: "I don't mind using the locals as bait..." *She arches an eyebrow,* "They can't ALL be innocents."
Kesu: "I kind of would like to not get anyone in trouble if it could be helped..."
Jet: "I see... have they been alerting the stadiums system of presence?"
Valentine: "Talking to the toads might spark up a crowd too. An unwelcomed crowd."
Kaine: "There is that, as well... but it may be worth the risk."
Valentine: "However. We have options now. Not good ones but better than the forced entry of the metroids which will not end well."
AnonyMan: "It is still safer than approaching the Stadium, and we can handle a few floating parasites."
Jet: "I'll agree there."
Digifanatic: "Especially considering how many of us decided to show up."
Kaine: "Then let's go get some information."
Valentine: "A few? I heard those famous last words. Like I said, I'll stick back if you want to charge in there. You don't pay me enough to attack without reason."
Kraela: *Krae fixed her gaze on Mewtwo.* "Do you think that the Toads will have any info worth listening to, boss?"
Kaine: "We aren't invading the stadium today, Vale, only getting information about it. We may just need to deal with some floating pests in the process."
Mewtwo: "When you are ready, I can open the portal. Do know that if you get in a fight, you will have to survive a bit longer before the warp opens."
AnonyMan: "Is there anything we should know about the... sentries?"
Mewtwo: "I wish I could tell you more, but the metroids ate the camera very quickly. They were definitely not normal metroids."
Kaine: "Great..." *Sighs* "Guess we're ready though."
Mewtwo: "We couldn't recover it either, as it had been taken inside the Stadium, based on the evidence we found on the edge of the scene."
Kraela: "I'm still not sure if we're going to be talking to Toads about yesterday's news or charging through aliens into a trap... Recover what?"
Digifanatic: "The camera."
Kraela: "Oh. Right. Sorry, I'm a little..." *she sighs.*
Mewtwo: "It's up to you. Are you all ready? The warp will send you all at once. It isn't a very convenient warp, due to its... unusual specifications."
Kraela: "Yeah, fine."
AnonyMan: "I will be scouting for information."
Mewtwo: "Activating the warp in 3... 2..."
Metal Man (GM): The world shakes and wobbles randomly and you hear a weird distorted explosion noise. Then after a short lens flare you pop up in a green field, about 50 feet away from the Stadium.
Digifanatic: "...that'll do."
Starr: "...At least the metroids won't swarm here..."
Kaine: *Looks around* "Well... we're here..."
Metal Man (GM): The Stadium looks... eerily normal. There's not even anything around it to show there was a fight now. The path you're on goes either to the Stadium, to Peach's castle, or to Toad Town. Toad Town also looks... perfectly untouched and normal.
Kraela: "The Toad's aren't going to know anything..." *Krae mutters.*
Metal Man (GM): Strange, for some intergalactic demon to have taken over the area around the Stadium and not even changed the signs... It's a good question as to how much the locals may even know of what happened. That fight made a lot of noise, but it looks like nothing is wrong with the Stadium from here.
Starr: ". . ." *She twitches a bit.* "Greaaaat... My cousin's lands..."
Kaine: "Yeah... doubt we'll see her though."
Digifanatic: "I wouldn't mind heading into town just to see if something comes up..." *Shrugs and follows Anony in.*
Metal Man (GM): Heading into Toad Town, Anonyman would see a bunch of Toads milling about their business as usual.
Kaine: *Heads for the town.*
Metal Man (GM): One or two of them stand around, loitering.
Starr: "I hope not."
Kraela: "And nobody listens to the smart girl." *She follows the others.*
Jet: "I would still ask in my opinion. If not for any other reason but to see what they think has been happening."
Kaine: *Ok, he heads for the toads instead.*
Metal Man (GM): One of them is busy standing near a pharmacy, while another one is sweeping the floor near some benches.
Kaine: "You're probably right, Krae, but when the only other option is a suicide mission... Besides, we'll be doing the suicide mission soon enough anyway, it just doesn't hurt to try to get some knowledge beforehand."
Kraela: "The damn cat ought to be smarter than this."
Metal Man (GM): The Toads don't seem to act like anything is wrong. Indeed, you being here doesn't seem to bother them either.
Janitoad: "Huh? What does a Brawler like you want with a nobody like me?"
Metal Man (GM): He continues sweeping while waiting for a response.
AnonyMan: "Would you know anything about the large building that doesn't seem to fit in?"
Janitoad: "What building? Are you crazy? That building has been there forever. It had a bit of a mess the other day, but the Toad's Cleaning Union helped clean up those building pieces from that big fire."
Kraela: "He built it over ours. Pay attention."
Janitoad: "Who built what?"
Kaine: "... Big... fire... oh, that."
Janitoad: "It just caught on fire, and then after we put it out, it was repaired just like normal. A holo room malfunction or something like that."
Kaine: "Who's running the stadium right now?"
AnonyMan: "Hm... I see... do you know where the technicians might be?"
Janitoad: "Hasn't been a match in a while, but the rumors are you Brawlers don't like fighting one another. Oh, I never really pay attention to who runs it... I don't know that either. I just know what I saw, which was what I just told you. I don't pay much attention to that Stadium. Bad things happen there all the time, and have been for many years."
Kaine: "Right, figures." *Sighs and goes to the other Toad guy.*
Janitoad: "Better to leave it alone unless you're a Brawler... why don't you go check it out?"
Metal Man (GM): The other Toad guy is a bit older and waiting for something.
AnonyMan: "Well, thank you for your time, sir, and we'll take that into consideration."
Starr: "Guys, this seems fishy to me... Really..."
Toadio: "Oh... they take so long to fill prescriptions here... They never do get it right either... once I got one which turned my hat green..."
Janitoad: "Okay then." *Goes back to cleaning.*
Kaine: "Excuse me, do you know about something happening to the stadium the other day?"
Toadio: "I haven't gotten much sleep since the Stadium fire. The loud exploding noises from the arsenal they store in there exploding woke me up pretty badly. I've had to get sleeping pills ever since."
Toadio: "It's bad for an old Toad, they say... too little sleep and you die. So I always keep a 1-up Mushroom around just in case."
Kaine: "Who was it that requested the help?"
Toadio: "Who wanted help? The fire was put out by the staff of the place, and then some Toads cleaned it up. Or so the newspaper says. Here. I was looking at it just a moment ago... I, er, found it on the ground... waiting is very boring."
Metal Man (GM): He hands you an old newspaper.
Digifanatic: "Alright then... do you know anything about the parasites that fly around on the perimeter?" *Reads the paper.*
Kaine: *Reads it.*
Metal Man (GM): 'STADIUM FIRE DAMAGES 300 BOB-OMBS STORED THERE, CAUSES LOUD EXPLOSIONS Vigilance by Professor Oak and Mewtwo saves Stadium'
Starr: "... Kaine, what does it say?"
Jet: "Hmm... interesting. Who prints the paper by the way?"
Metal Man (GM): 'The Super Smash Quest Stadium caught on fire Friday today, for reasons still unknown. Thankfully the staff managed to leverage their Lugia to put out the fire.'
Kaine: "Uh..." *M to Ian* "We have a Lugia?"
Metal Man (GM): 'With the fire out, everything was saveable except for a few parts that went missing. The search is still ongoing for these parts, estimated to be related to the control devices used to help call the Brawlers.'
Digifanatic: *M* "No, the doppelganger Stadium."
Metal Man (GM): 'The Toad Janitorial union was given an award for helping to clean up the mess.' That's about all it says.
Kaine: *Sighs and pockets the paper for later, once he's done reading it.*
Toadio: "That's Print.E's newspaper. He's been printing them forever."
Kaine: *M still* "Oak and Mewtwo are going to want to see this."
Toadio: "Ever since I was a young Toad and this place only had five real buildings..."
Kaine: "Where's his office? We'd like to speak with him."
Toadio: "And Mario was made out of paper... He's over there, probably." *He points to a 'TOAD TOWN PRESS' building.* "He remains the main Newspaper Man here..."
Kaine: "Oh..." *Heads over there to speak with Print.E.*
Metal Man (GM): You'd have to enter the building first... and the first floor is filled with typewriters. And Toads at typewriters.
Jet: "Thanks" *Jet says and heads over to the office.*
Kraela follows, still bitter.
Metal Man (GM): Then there's several hallways and offices. And stairs up to a second and third floor. The Toads look at you, then continue typing.
Digifanatic: "Thanks for the paper." *Follows and walks in.*
Kaine: "You all right, Krae?"
Metal Man (GM): One of them, wearing a hawaiian print shirt, walks over and looks at you.
Risk.E: "Hey, if it isn't the Questers! Don't you remember me... I'm Risk.E! Come here to do some more adventuring? Maybe I could get an interview!"
Metal Man (GM): He takes out a huge flashbulb camera and takes a picture of all of you.
Kraela: "This is a goose chase," *she hisses.*
Digifanatic: "...I think you're confusing us with the ones from the other Stadium."
Risk.E: "Ah, you must be the new Julian!" *He points at Kraela.*
Kaine: "It's looking that way... Everyone thinks we're still at that stadium, along with Mewtwo and Oak."
Risk.E: "Other Stadium? Have you begun to diversify to new worlds now? I remember Alsa you know. You were great!"
Digifanatic: *Facepalms, muttering to Kraela* "Just ignore any comparisons..."
Kraela: "You're telling me later."
Kaine: "... Long story."
Risk.E: "Yeah, Digi knows what it's all about. I mean Ian... that's what he's called now!"
Editor's Note: Of course, he's still Digifanatic in these logs so that the logs with him now will connect to the ones in the past, in case anybody cares about such a small factoid.
Risk.E: "Just don't tell anyone about that time he was banished for mentioning a comedian from Earth. Ha ha ha ha, those times were wacky!"
Kaine: *Sighs* "Can you tell us anything about that fire at the stadium? We're having difficulty figuring out what actually happened."
Digifanatic: "Well, I meant the Stadium on the other side of that junction..."
Jet: "Eh, this is an interesting discussion in my opinion." *He then looks to Risk.E.* "Umm... I apologize if the question is uncomfortable, but is there anyway we could get the source of information fro the stadium fire article?"
Risk.E: "Oh yes, I can. What's up, did you miss the fire? I'd think you'd be the ones who know all about it!"
Kaine: "Well, many of us were away from the stadium when it occurred."
Risk.E: "The source of information for the article? Well that was me, baby! I got all the pictures. All the info! It was worth quite a bit too. Too bad you weren't there."
Kaine: "Can we see them? Anything that hasn't been published yet?"
Risk.E: "Do you know what REALLY caused it? We've got no clue what happened."
Kraela: "We've got an idea, but we're not sure. What can you tell us?"
Risk.E: "Well, nothing much, the place was all... empty!"
Metal Man (GM): He takes out pictures. True enough, there's the images... of the half of the Stadium you took away, missing. The only half which remains has been burnt.
Risk.E: "Print.E wouldn't let me publish this. I guess they were too scary."
Kaine: *Looks at it* "But they said there was only minor damage."
Risk.E: "Somehow Mewtwo and Mack fixed it up in a flash. Literally, a flash and then it was all back. Just needed to be cleaned up! I tried to ask them but they wouldn't tell me how they did it, or where that Lugia came from!"
Kaine: "... Uh... did you speak directly to Mewtwo or Mack?"
Risk.E: "And now you don't know what happened either? Something strange is happening, yes... there must be a coverup... this might be Ganondorf or Bowser's doing, I'm sure of it! Let me at 'em, I've been watching you guys for centuries!"
Digifanatic: "No, we know of a different source though..."
Risk.E: "Now I will save the Questers! Yes... I spoke to Mewtwo and Nack! They were both sort of weird... but they seemed normal at the time."
Kaine: "SINCE that fire?!?"
Risk.E: "Yes. What, is there some reason for the weird burns they had across their necks? They wouldn't tell me why those were there either... I thought you guys might know."
Kaine: "... Can you get a hold of them again?"
Risk.E: "I would, but the Stadium has been declared off limits. They're preparing some sort of parade and we're not allowed to peek!"
Kaine: *Nods* "All right. What can you tell us about metroids in the area?"
Risk.E: "Some weirdo tried to spy on them with a camera, but luckily they removed it before it could spy on anything. What metroids? Are the Space Pirates invading? I gotta hear this scoop!"
Digifanatic: "They're little floating parasites that are swarming the stadium."
Kaine: "Never mind, received some bad information. Thanks for the help."
Risk.E: "Really?" *He looks out the window.* "I don't see any!"
Digifanatic: "Meh. ...they're very small, sir."
Risk.E: "Gotta hate bad sources. They'll tell you crazy stuff, like the moon is coming to crash into the planet."
Kaine: *Leaves the office and tries to radio Mewtwo.*
Risk.E: "That Termina story was a bust!"
Metal Man (GM): Radio doesn't work. Evil Wolfman's field ensures you can only warp in and out. At set intervals, at that. The camera worked somehow, but Mewtwo didn't explain that either.
Kaine: .oO(Great... how are we supposed to get the hell out of here if we can't contact Mewtwo and request the warp?)
Kraela: *Krae follows him.* "I'm so glad we came here. I learned so much about what we're supposed to walk into."
Metal Man (GM): Kaine would see a note on the radio. 'Press the button three times to request the warp out.'
Kaine: "Well, we learned why Evil Wolf hasn't destroyed this town yet. He's taken control of it without firing a shot, or even lifting a finger, really..."
Metal Man (GM): 'P.S. DO NOT CONTACT EARLY. Leaving may tip Evil Wolfman off to our plans.'
Digifanatic: *Walking out with them* "Yup..." *Sighs.*
Jet: "Im starting to think he might be trying to overlay our stadium reality with his."
Kaine: *Nods* "A full scale raid would be stupid, but we do need to do SOMETHING..."
Kraela: "I say we just draw the blobs out and see what he does about it."
Kaine: *Nods* "At this point, it seems like our only option. At least maybe we can see WHAT is different about them."
AnonyMan: "This is true, though..." *He looks down.* "They may be focused on electricity and that... would not end well for me."
Metal Man (GM): Risk.E seems to be busy writing down his 'interview' with you, in the background.
Kaine: "So, let's go pick a fight then."
Kraela: "Finally," *she starts walking up to the Stadium.*
Kaine: *Heads for the "Fake" Stadium.*
Metal Man (GM): You begin to walk up to the Stadium. Contrary to the bad things you've heard, nothing strange seems to be happening... yet. It looks just fine, even, as you approach it.
Metal Man (GM): You get within 30 feet of it, and feel something strange in the air. Do you continue beyond that?
Kaine: *Pauses, waiting to see what happens.*
Digifanatic: "Right on the fringe of the Metroids..."
Kraela: "Stay back. I'm quickest. I'll scout."
Digifanatic: "Alright..." *Takes a few steps back.*
Kaine: *Also looks around, wondering if that reporter toad is following.*
Metal Man (GM): He isn't.
Kraela walks forward slowly, towards the door.
Metal Man (GM): He seems to have taken your discussion to be an 'interview' and is probably excitedly going to print it.
Kaine: *Stands on the edge and watches Krae, drawing his sword.*
Metal Man (GM): Kraela walks past the edge. A weird fluctuation occurs in reality. Kraela vanishes when she walks inside.
King Demon: "KRAE!?"
Metal Man (GM): Kraela wouldn't notice the difference and could see everyone.
Kraela: "I'm fine, Kaine."
Digifanatic: "...we can't see you!"
Metal Man (GM): Her voice would carry outside the field easily.
Starr: "... That's not awkward or dangerous at all..."
Metal Man (GM): Oddly, those on the outside would just continue to see the Stadium.
Kraela: *Krae looks at the Stadium.*
Digifanatic: "Can you still see us, though?"
Metal Man (GM): Krae would see some more strange reality disturbances... three of them.. ..Metroids... which phase right through the walls of the Stadium...
Kaine: *Pokes the edge with his sword, hoping he doesn't hit Krae.*
Metal Man (GM): GHOST METROIDS. Star Steel's most feared enemy! The sword that enters the field vanishes--that is the parts beyond the field. Of course...
Kraela: "Yep. It's just a hologram. Step in, you're going to want to see this."
Metal Man (GM): No one outside the field would see, or even hear the Ghost Metroids.
Digifanatic: "Alright, Kraela." *Cautiously walks in.*
Metal Man (GM): The Ghost Metroids would fly towards Kraela, hungrily flapping their mouth parts.
Kaine: "Uh... in a minute. First, maybe you should come back out, to make sure we CAN!"
Metal Man (GM): Digi would suddenly see the Ghost Metroids and Kraela.
Starr: *She rolls her eyes and walks right in beside Krae.*
Metal Man (GM): The Ghost Metroids are about to attack.
Digifanatic: "...yeah guys, they've cloaked the trouble out."
Kaine: "Right..." *Sighs and enters as well* *M* "I'm going to regret this..."
Kraela readies her halberd. "And they're not fond of our company."
Metal Man (GM): The stadium still looks normal beyond the cloak, suggesting additional trickery inside. But first, three Ghost Metroids in the way! Digi gets the single AOO for you guys. But the Metroid phases through it.
Digifanatic: "Yikes, the little bugger is quick!"
Metal Man (GM): This is going to be painful. GHOST METROIDSSSS BATTLEEEEE
Kaine: *Readies his sword.*
Metal Man (GM): It is hit.
Digifanatic: *And a Fire Punch.*
Metal Man (GM): Hit. The Ghost Metroids make weird noises. Then one shoots a ghost tentacle at Digi! It fails. So it does it again! It misses. So it fires a Ghost lightning bolt at Digi! *ZAP* 25 damage, stunned. Ghost Metroid 2 fires two Ghost lightning bolts at Digi! Then... it becomes invisible! 25, then 25 damage. Notice that Stunned does not stack. No Elec-manning here! Next up, #3 rears back and charges at Digi, Jet, and Kraela all at once! Threatens all three. 50 damage if hit.
Digifanatic: *RES point.*
Metal Man (GM): Note that Ghost Metroid #2 is invisible. You can just barely see the outline of it though. It phases out of existence, dodging that attack. Then phases back in. It is hit, just barely. I am guessing it is hit very much.
Kraela tries to cut through both of the the visible metroids in a single swing.
Metal Man (GM): Hit, and fail, of course.
Kraela: *She then does it again, just for kicks.*
Metal Man (GM): They stand there while you shoot a window out. Baaaad luck.
Kaine: *Goes to lightningly stab the first metroid Does it again.*
Metal Man (GM): It phases out of reality. You swear you can almost see a Troll faec in it. Evil Wolfmaaaaan!!!!!!
Kaine: "Damn, I'm really starting to hate these guys..."
Metal Man (GM): Star Steel feared them for a reason.
Kraela: "I'm starting to think that we should try to get away, personally."
Kaine: "Back outside the barrier? You may be right..."
Metal Man (GM): It is just one step back outside the nightmarish Ghost Metroid zone. Clearly they're meant to repel intruders rather than kill people. Unless those people choose to fight them to the death.
Starr: *Star growls,* "These things are annoying me..." *She takes her whip off her hip.* "I say we keep fighting." *She aims at one of the visible metroids with that nasty whip of hers... Lashing at it four times.*
Metal Man (GM): Two hits. They -are- quite challenging to hit. They keep phasing in and out of reality. You hit the first one twice in melee. Number 3 then dodges one and is hit by the second.
Kraela: "Your funeral, princess. Looks like you can just barely hit them, too, though."
Starr: "I got some hits in."
Metal Man (GM): Damage? Two hits on #1, One hit on #3.
AnonyMan: "They don't seem to be shaken, either... perhaps we should wait for the portal and simply report what we found."
Jet: "Well they ain't going away now..."
Kraela: "Two out of four. And you were pretty good with that thing last I saw."
AnonyMan: "They're confined to 30 feet outside the stadium, it appears."
Kaine: "Can we save the arguing until after the fighting ends?"
Starr: *looks at her,* "Says the girl who can't hit at all."
Kaine: *Sighs* "Guess not."
Kraela: "I hit one with two hits. Pretty much the same ratio, and I'm still saying we back out."
Metal Man (GM): The Ghost Metroids watch you argue as they plot how they will deal with you.
Kaine: *Also looks at Krae* "By the way, weren't you the one itching for a fight when we started this mission?"
Digifanatic: *Sighs* "I still feel pretty good about things, though... if we can knock this wave of three Metroids out in good standing, we can discuss it after."
Kaine: *Readies his sword for the next round.*
Digifanatic: *Gives him, Jet, and Kraela a Minor Heal, plus another Cure for himself.*
AnonyMan: "Fighting within the force is not good practice."
Starr: "I wanted to gather more information, but I think this is all we needed to know... About what Mewtwo saw. I want to know more about these Metroids."
Kraela: "Itching for a fight isn't itching to die, Kaine. I got hit pretty hard by one of those bastards. Thanks, E."
Metal Man (GM): The Metroids decide Digi has a good idea!
Kaine: *Nods* "True, you did take a good shot."
Metal Man (GM): So the first one launches a ghost tentacle at Digi! 37 damage... and it heals itself some! Then it attacks Digi with lightning! 25 damage, stunned, then another 25 damage.
Digifanatic: *2nd RES point on the tentacle.*
Metal Man (GM): The other Metroid is still invisible! So it goes to ram Digi while invisible--threatening Anonyman and Kaine as well, but at a lower accuracy, because they can see it coming! The roll counts only as a 3 for Anonyman and Kaine. As it becomes visible after phasing in out of nowhere to destroy Digi. 50 damage if hit.
Digifanatic: *3rd RES point.*
Metal Man (GM): Yeah. The metroids seem to like how they're beating up Digi. The third one spams lightning at Digi, deciding it wants to see him dead. Now. *BZOLT BZOLT BZOLT BZOLT* 25 damage a hit. They must have read that Penny Arcade comic.
Digifanatic: *Let's see if a RES point can keep him alive... Dead by 4 HP... >_<*
Metal Man (GM): The wrath of the Ghost Metroids is over, and the smart use of a RES point prevented one from healing itself a little. Digi's electrified corpse smoulders on the ground quietly.
Digifanatic: "..." *Collapses.*
Metal Man (GM): The evil Ghost Metroids look to the rest of you. One of them is pretty badly messed up.
Kraela: "Get out of here, Jet. We'll follow."
Metal Man (GM): Jet watches it annoyingly phase out of reality some more. Then Jet falls backwards and trips out of the field. No damage, just wacky.
Kraela: *Krae attempts an executioner on the damaged Metroid.*
Metal Man (GM): It phases through you. Gah! There has to be some way to make them stop that!
Kraela: *And backs out of the field. *(EoT)
Metal Man (GM): It is carefully ZapRinged. That ought to make it easier to hit. Anything else? The stunned Ghost Metroid seems more... real...
Kaine: *Tries to lightning punch the stunned Ghost.*
Metal Man (GM): It cannot seem to phase out while stunned.
AnonyMan: "I think we found their weak point!"
Metal Man (GM): It's even more damaged. Still hanging in there though... More hitting on it.
Starr: "Okay... Let's do this."
Metal Man (GM): They're still Metroids, just when not ghosted you have a ghost of a chance to kill one.
Starr: *She attempts to whip it into submission... Preferably the submission of death.*
Metal Man (GM): It is unable to dodge much due to being stunned. #2 and #3. Three hits on #3.
Starr: "How's that for skill..." *EoT.*
Metal Man (GM): Digi's corpse makes a sizzling noise. GHOST METROIDSS hiss at the recent turn of events. The second one goes invisible, then attacks with an energy draining tentacle at Starr! 37 damage, and it heals itself! Then #3 decides Anonyman must die from electrical overload!
Starr: "Ow, son of a b-..." *She cringes.*
Metal Man (GM): *BZOLT BZOLT BZOLT BZOLT* Three hits. 75 damage, stunned. Jet... sees nothing. He stepped out of the field. It's an idyllic place out here. Only Kraela. HE could however hear lightning and anything the Brawlers said inside the field. And evil Metroid noises. Jet could lean forward to glance inside if he wanted, for 1 TP.
Kraela: "Can all of you still move?" *Krae calls in.*
Metal Man (GM): That would be heard by those inside, of course.
AnonyMan: "My leg is slightly locked up and systems heavily damaged!"
Ghost Metroid 2: *Evil electrified ghost screech.*
Metal Man (GM): Jet would see: Digi's kentucky-fried corpse, two Ghost Metroids, Anonyman, Kaine, and Starr.
Kaine: "Anony, Starr, we might need to get out of here!"
Metal Man (GM): They don't seem to be interested in eating it for some reason. OOC note: They are in fact Tallon Metroids, although someone managed to make them capable of phasing in and out of reality... Yes, the other Brawlers, Jet. So that takes that TP. Anything else, Jet?
Digifanatic: *Yoinked out of the sphere.*
Metal Man (GM): *Whiff* Kraela: You see the corpse of Digi. And hear the evil metroids. Do you go in or stay out?
Kraela stays resolutely outside the field.
Metal Man (GM): *Phases out* They're both visible, thankfully.
Kaine: *Lightning punches the weakest one.*
Metal Man (GM): It dodges.
Kaine: "You running, Starr?"
Metal Man (GM): Definitely gotta do something about these thing's phasing. Unfortunately they totaled your healer, old school.
Starr: "I don't want to... But... This is getting hard to handle."
Kraela: "Get back here, and we can fight them some other time."
Ghost Metroid 3: *Evil Metroid screeech.*
Starr: "Right. I'm out of here then."
Kaine: "Come on, we can face them again another time." *Heads back out of the barrier.*
Metal Man (GM): You head on out. The metroids screech, then float away as you leave.
Starr: *She exits right behind him.*
AnonyMan: "I hope there's a repair center back at base..."
Kaine: "Damn, those things were TOUGH!"
Metal Man (GM): You're safe now.
Kraela: "I'm too pissed off for an 'I told you so' speech, so just call in the warp."
Digifanatic: *Revives* "...I've got to stop impulsively healing you guys..." *-3 SP. Wah.*
Kaine: *Presses the warp button* "Well, we at least have some information."
Kraela: "There's that."
Kaine: "Yeah, it will, but odds are they knew we were here as soon as we entered that barrier."
AnonyMan: "Play it safe. Nothing can hurt us out here."
Metal Man (GM): Kaine presses the button.
Jet: "Eh... I would rather make the jump now and not have something come out of there to hurt us."
Metal Man (GM): Out of the corner of your eye, you see Evil Wolfman and his glasses smirk at you. His glasses shine... then the weird explosion noise and lens flare transports you back to HQ. Mewtwo taps his fingers on the table. He intended to warp back. :p
Mewtwo: "What did you find?"
AnonyMan: "Ethereal electric parasites, sir."
Mewtwo: "So those Metroids were the real thing."
Digifanatic: *Nods* "They pretty much put a facade on the Stadium to look like they weren't there."
AnonyMan: "That take form when hit with electricity, or maybe an attack that halts momentum."
Mewtwo: "...Any idea of what Evil Wolfman is doing?"
Kraela: "Not a clue. He's making it look like we're still there."
Jet: "Not really at the moment, outside of making it look like we never left to Toad Town."
AnonyMan: "Possibly turning Toad Town against us. The denizens believe we still work at the stadium, and that history never occurred..."
Digifanatic: "And trying to taunt us as we retreated..."
Mewtwo: "Curses. So it doesn't look like we're in trouble. And I'm not sure if we want to alert them. There's no telling what he might do to them then."
Kaine: "He has a barrier at about 30 feet around the stadium, and those metroids exist within that barrier. They were... weird, able to shift between dimensions or something."
Mewtwo: "Metroids can be dealt with, with the right equipment. But what of the Stadium? What was its condition? ...Ghost Metroids."
Kraela: "It appears to be repaired."
Mewtwo: "He must be using the most powerful versions of our past foes to keep us at bay, knowing they work well against us."
AnonyMan: "Fixed. As in, fully repaired and an exact replica. Missing a few parts, according to a custodian."
Mewtwo: "We will need to acquire a generator to cancel out the phasing of the metroids. Samus would just hit them where they are vulnerable, but that requires two pieces of technology that are vastly too rare and expensive for you to find. Unfortunately this means we need to find another artifact before we can get in any further... and the Cetan Ship doesn't yield anything useful."
AnonyMan: "Perhaps this Samus character would?"
Jet: "What sort of artifact?"
Kaine: "Wasn't Samus a member of the Stadium? Wouldn't it be her duty to help?"
Mewtwo: "...The Stadium of yore wasn't as it appeared. Samus was there because there were no major crises in her world. Now she is busy on a constant basis. I will try to contact her, but it will take a while to get information on possible Chozo artifacts."
Mewtwo: "If you have any other ideas, the warp system is online. Otherwise you may rest your very electrified bodies for the time being."
AnonyMan: "I'm assuming giving her assistance would be out of the question? My systems would like to fight something less terrifying..." *...* "On that note, is there a repair center around? I'm quite beat up."
Mewtwo: "The Metroids come from her area."
Kraela: "We need to recover, I think..."
Mewtwo: "You'd get to meet new variants of them."
AnonyMan: "Anything but the ethereal ones, please..."
Mewtwo: "Equally or worse terrifying ones. Evil Wolfman is only going off of what dex information he must have stolen."
Jet: "I would agree rest is a good idea."
Mewtwo: "Odds are worse Metroids exist in their home system. ...But not so organized ones."
AnonyMan: "The only thing worse than a persistent foe is a quick persistent foe."
Mewtwo: "Those were obviously trained. Attacking all at once, targeting the most dangerous Brawlers... they had some edge beyond normal Metroid intelligence."
Digifanatic: "I wouldn't mind a breather, myself..."
Mewtwo: "I will ask Samus as to why this is while you rest. The Stadium's Sick Bay is up to repairing whatever ails you. Red Text used his technology to make it work on an automated basis. No Dr. Marios. Never again."
Digifanatic: .oO(Sometimes I don't like playing healer...)
Mewtwo: "Perhaps you need to learn how to make a Barrier, Digi. That's what I do, when I want to heal."
Digifanatic: *Nods* "I've been thinking about Wall, actually..."
Kraela: "Thanks, boss." *She follows AnonyMan to the sick bay.*
Mewtwo: "We can schedule missions to acquire more equipment as we need it. Evil Wolfman is at the top of his game and so far we're only dealing small chips in a giant wall. Good work so far, Questers and Brawlers... we will resume our work when you are ready." *He floats off.*
Metal Man (GM): +2 EXP to Anonyman, Jet, Kraela, Kaine, Starr; +1 EXP to Digi. +10 coins to all.
Kaine: "Here." *Hands Mewtwo the paper* "For your reading pleasure. I'm heading to sick bay myself." *Waves and leaves.*
Starr: "..." *She sighs,* "I want a hot bath." *She grumbles, going to her room.*
Mewtwo: "Hm..." *Reads the newspaper.*
Kaine: *Goes to sick bay with Krae and Anony* "You hurt that badly, Krae?"
Kraela: "I've been worse. You?"
Kaine: "I'll survive." *Smiles* "I guess it wouldn't hurt to get checked out though, I did get zapped pretty good that one time."
Kraela: "What was going on in your head when you decided not to get out of there when I said it was a good idea?"
Kaine: "We lived through that encounter at least, though it just showed us we have a long ways to go."
Digifanatic: "We were making good progress..."
Kaine: *Sighs* "I wasn't going to leave the others behind. Not if I could help it."
Digifanatic: "I mean, yeah, we did get hit, but I figured there were enough of us there to hold them off."
Digifanatic: "And I felt obliged to try to heal you guys..."
Kaine: "Besides, we needed to see where we stood, and we did. We also found out some information about those metroids by destroying at least one of them."
Kraela: "What did you learn that you didn't know from just seeing them?"
Digifanatic: "I heard Anony say something about them getting stunned and how they can't turn invisible... Which definitely helps."
Kaine: "How durable they are, for one. And, we learned some of their abilities that you wouldn't just know by seeing them for a few seconds."
Kraela: "Alright, fine."
Kaine: *Shakes his head* "I didn't think it was a fight we would win, but it was a fight we needed to at least attempt."
Digifanatic: *Starts reading the book, but he will remain attentive to the conversation.*
Kraela: "I attempted. Attempted, failed, and left."
Kaine: *Nods* "We all did, well, except for Ian."
Kaine: "He didn't get the opportunity to leave." *Smirks and nudges Ian.*
Digifanatic: *Sighs and smirks again at Kaine* "Either I gotta stop healing, or just hope I don't get touched."
Metal Man (GM): *ZAP* Static electricity lightly zaps Kaine when he pokes Digi. Some of that electricity is still goin' on.
Digifanatic: *Another long sigh.*
Kraela: "Not his fault they hated him."
Metal Man (GM): Digi's hair is still a little frizzy, too.
Kaine: *Shakes his hand after getting zapped* "Geez... don't shower, Ian."
Digifanatic: "Heh... well, I did draw attention to myself when I wanted to heal you and Jet..."
Kaine: *Nods* "Yeah, they didn't seem to like you undoing their damage very much, did they?"
Kaine: *Wraps an arm around Krae* "We'll get better, though. And next time, we'll beat those damn things."
Kraela: *She ignores his embrace.* "Yeah, I know."
Kaine: "I wonder if Mewtwo will be able to get a hold of that Samus lady."
Digifanatic: "It'd be nice, she's worked with us before... both of them, for that matter."
Kaine: "Yes, Ian?"
Digifanatic: "You guys gonna be hanging around much? I think I need to head out for a while, maybe go back home, skim this book a bit more..."
Kraela looks at Kaine.
Digifanatic: "But some time away from the Stadium will calm me down for now."
Kaine: "I don't have many plans." *Looks at Krae* "Other than dinner, if you'll come."
Digifanatic: "Ah, I'll see you guys around whenever..."
Kraela: "Dinner's good. Seeya."
Digifanatic: "Take care, you two." *Nods to them and walks off to another room with the book for now.*
Kaine: "Bye. All right, let's go then." *Holds out his hand.*
Kraela: "Not tonight. I need to calm down first. Just lead."
Kaine: "All right." *Leads Krae out to get something to eat.*
Metal Man (GM): Recap: The Questers and Brawlers went to recon ol' Nintendus. What they found was quite problematic. Evil Wolfman had taken an option no other villain had before--outright cloaking that anything was wrong at all. The Brawlers and all tried to remedy this by breaking into the fake Stadium, but its guards--evil Ghost Metroids--were just way too much for them to handle. They fled, as Evil Wolfman watched from a safe distance inside his fake Stadium. Mewtwo decided this meant some equipping was in order, and the group rested while he planned. Continuation Mewtwo is in the big room now, with data on the Ghost Metroids. He doesn't appear to be very optimistic.
Kaine: *Resting in the main room of the stadium ship.*
Mewtwo: "These Metroids are supposed to be impossible to exist, let alone control."
Jason: *Tilts his head.*
Mewtwo: "They possess capabilities only Phazon Metroids should have."
Kraela: "Impossible doesn't seem to mean much, though."
Mewtwo: "It is clear that Evil Wolfman has capabilities only a Phazon Leviathan should have: to control Metroids and grant them dimensional warping capabilities. Only he is the size of a person, making him as dangerous as Dark Samus, if not more."
Digifanatic: *Sitting in a more isolated corner, listening to the conversation, the Wall book tucked under his shoulder for now.*
Mewtwo: "Worse yet, he is not compelled to make mistakes like Kuja or The Void. He hasn't made his takeover obvious to anyone who might otherwise stop him, and he hasn't senselessly destroyed everything that might help him either. So it's going to take more precise work to destroy him. No raw attack of artifacted power alone can disrupt him. He has plan A, B, C and Z ready for us."
Mewtwo: "I have already checked--a full Smasher attack would fail. In fact, I don't even think a brute force Quester attack would work."
Kaine: "So... what, we have to trick him or something?"
Mewtwo: "In the case they break his defenses, he could escape easily and adapt to their offenses. We first need to be able to kill his footsoldiers. Otherwise, we only are capable of stealth missions. You Brawlers are good at that, but not that good. No one is, except lone wolves. And obviously you aren't those, as you're already being tracked by Evil Wolfman. Equipment is necessary to do this. But what kind is up to you. There are many magical spells on Alsa, those of which we can acquire. But it requires some research."
Kesu: *Shows up.*
Mewtwo: "Unfortunately Anthon Tark refuses to grant us access to his libraries. Jack similarly doesn't like the idea of you with magical powers from Alsa. Red Text... doesn't have many magical texts. The Echidna people are also on uneven ground, due to the confused behavior of the Alsa Questers. The greatest source of magical information which would readily make itself available to ourself would be Borne's, if we could revive him."
Kaine: "But then the question becomes SHOULD we revive him?"
Mewtwo: "Unfortunately Borne would also become a problem of his own, as he would probably destabilize GUN, take it over, then wreak havoc. To be honest, I don't really care about Alsa's stability."
Mewtwo: "Nintendus is what matters. Only those who wish to help us will be helped. If the most stable person is also an isolationist, then I don't care if he gets picked off by a more helpful maniac. So that covers magic. But perhaps you don't want magic. Perhaps you want to use technology to jam the fields, warp through more barriers, and maybe even shut down Evil Wolfman's body directly. We have Dr. Light. We have Professor Oak. All we need is to acquire more advanced alien technology to arm ourselves with. The Carrington Institute has offered to join our ship and aid us in obtaining Cetan technology if we accept their offer."
Kaine: "More... advanced... technology..."
Mewtwo: "They will, however, also request that we aid them in policing parts of Alsa."
Kesu: "Which you said you don't care much for unless you get something out of it."
Kaine: "What other technology sources do we have available?"
Mewtwo: "We don't have any other ones. Alsa is a planet of hostile isolationists. Nintendus is under the control of an invisible dictator."
Kaine: "... Oh... so if we need technology we'll have to help Carrington? Great..."
Digifanatic: "How about the Galactic Federation?"
Mewtwo: "And the Galactic Federation is embroiled in war with Space Pirates."
Kaine: "Speaking of them, did you get a hold of Samus?"
Mewtwo: "They can't spare a single thing, and we might get shot down by hordes of Space Pirates trying to approach. That's where I got the information on the Metroids from."
Digifanatic: *Snaps his fingers in frustration.*
Mewtwo: "It's quaint to her. Their current threats are from cyborgized Space Pirates wielding antimatter guns. All their current tech is based around surviving antimatter explosions. Not very useful to us right now. And they're using every bit they make, due to the rampant Space Pirate attacks."
Kaine: *Sighs* "Sounds like Angel Island is our best bet."
Mewtwo: "So it comes down to those two. Either we get help from Carrington Institute and protect Alsa, or we pick up magic and forget Alsa. I do not care about Alsa, because it doesn't really care about me. It hasn't treated my doppelganger much better, either."
Digifanatic: *Sighs* "As much as I don't mind Alsa, it's gone so far down the tubes because I'm not sure what we'd be able to salvage off of it."
Kaine: *Nods* "You may not care about Alsa, Mewtwo, but you... we may need Alsa's help to fix this mess, so we may need to help them anyway."
Mewtwo: "Technically Alsa has remained where you first found it. It was recovering from the massive war of Mad Men when you arrived. They don't believe in peace. As I speak to you, tensions of new wars appear to be building."
Mewtwo: "Some Time Cops magically erased the Sloan problem, so now instead the Repliforce appears to be eying GUN's territory. Or so Red Text says."
King Demon: "Yeah, that peace treaty we brokered went down the toilet as soon as we returned to Nintendus."
Kraela: "So pretty much Alsa's doomed whatever we do?"
Jason: "Sounds like it."
Mewtwo: "They do seem to be following it--inasmuch they are all on a large democratic council that is too busy arguing to pass any major initiatives, bar those which banned Brawlers from the planet for a while."
Kaine: "Sounds that way. Either that or Nintendus is."
Mewtwo: "I'm not sure it's so much doomed as it is insistent on being in a state of constant war."
Jason: "Either way, that ain't sitting pretty."
Mewtwo: "History records show that the large number of continents and small number of 'rich' areas meant nothing but trouble."
Jason: "That'll do it."
Kaine: "Sounds right."
Mewtwo: "Many civilizations have risen and fallen, most of them being predecessors to the current continual rise and fall of GUN. They used magic before and had a warlord named 'Dyne' help run the world and bring new places in. He also got the ball started by making there be so many strange mis-matched worlds on one planet. Then he tried to take it all and died similarly to how Eggman did against the Mad Men, then died for real against the Alsa Questers. So it's your choice. Carrington Institute or Borne. You've gotten a hint of each. Neither likes us all that much."
Kraela: "I honestly don't give a damn. Just make my vote the same as Kaine's."
Digifanatic: *Abstains from voting for now.*
Kaine: "Carrington sounds like the safe route, but we'll end up sticking our nose in business we really don't need to get involved in. Borne sounds likely to bit us in the ass if we go that route."
Mewtwo: "Neither is an ideal situation. The word 'ideal' and 'Alsa', however, don't belong in the same sentence."
King Demon: "Nice understatement."
Mewtwo: "Unless it refers to suffering war, death, madness, and destruction, of course."
Kesu: "I kind of like the magic a bit more, if only in that it has less long term implications."
Mewtwo: "It is true. Borne doesn't seem to expect us to do anything beyond the first fifteen seconds of anything. Records show that while he hates us all, he also seems to understand our modus operandi better than most."
Jason: "Kaine's got a point, but personally, we've got a pretty good set of guys and girls here to take down Borne is we had to."
Mewtwo: "Carrington is likely to want us to continue working with him. He will also be here to annoy us about it as he will be joining us on the stadium."
Kraela: "Jason does have a point. Borne died before. We can do it again if we have to."
Kaine: *Nods* "I prefer technology to magic myself, but Borne may be easier to deal with when the time comes."
Digifanatic: "Honestly, I could go either way."
Mewtwo: "It seems the consensus is that Borne is easier to take out than Carrington's continual presence and demand for us to protect Alsa's citizenry from what usually happens to them."
King Demon: "Borne is annoying, but he can be dealt with much easier than Carrington in the end."
Digifanatic: "I don't mind looking over Alsa for a while, but sometimes it seems Alsa is a lost cause."
Mewtwo: "Now comes our new problem. His location is at the bottom of the ocean."
Jet: "Lost case?"
Mewtwo: "Which is... ... wait a minute..."
Metal Man (GM): He brings up the Cetan Megawarp.
Kaine: "It seems Alsa's not happy unless it's destroying itself, do we really want to try to put a band aid on a stab wound?"
Mewtwo: "This takes care of that pretty easily."
Digifanatic: "Yeah, what Kaine said."
Jason: "Heh..." *Looks back to Mewtwo.*
Mewtwo: "Red Text should have been able to warp us, but he didn't seem too keen on it, and I wasn't going to press him. But this device is capable of doing it for us."
Jet: "True... although aren't we kinda expanding that chest wound?"
Kraela: "Don't complicate it, Jet."
Jet: "Fair enough. No skin off my bones anyway."
Mewtwo: "The warp is ready. No walking outside needed. Are you ready?"
Kesu: "Under the ocean now? or just somewhere with air?"
Jason: "I'm good." *Stands up, picks up his keyboard and straps it behind his back.*
Mewtwo: "There is air in there. It's on the ocean floor. I find it odd Red Text just knew where it was, but I'm not asking him where he gets his data."
Kraela: "I'm ready."
Digifanatic: "I'll be hanging around here, reading up on this book and maybe running a few side errands if necessary."
Starr: "I'm ready for anything."
Kaine: "Let's go, then."
King Demon: "Yeah, I'm going to stay back as well, someone's gotta keep the pokemon in line." *Smirks.*
Mewtwo: "Engaging warp in 3... 2..."
Kaine: *Heads for da warp.*
Jason: *Heads for the warp radius.*
Digifanatic: *And Didge just stays in his seat away from the Brawlers. :P.*
Metal Man (GM): The world suddenly wavers, then a weird green explosion occurs with a lens flare, then you appear with the same noise and wobbling under the sea... inside a small underground... no... underwater room. (Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst Soundtrack - Seabed Part 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44e-Vy_Wk08 ) Here is another Mad Man revival area. It is intact. However the computer monitors have strange gray text falling down on them, Matrix-style. Borne's corpse... er... gray sand lays on the ground by a console.
Kaine: *Looks at the monitors, trying to decipher them.*
Metal Man (GM): They're just random gibberish falling down matrix-style. There is however a computer console sitting there. Although it is also locked into the gray text.
Kraela: "So that's Borne?"
Kaine: "I... guess?" *Moves toward the sand pile.*
Starr: "Seems more like... Was... To me."
Metal Man (GM): The sand pile is definitely dead.
Kraela: "I said was."
Metal Man (GM): It's near the console, which is possessed by the weird gray text.
Jason: "Hmm, I wonder if we can get the computer up and running..." *Walks over to the console and looks over the controls.*
Metal Man (GM): Well, it's a keyboard and a trackball. Touching them don't seem to change the never-ending gray text.
Jason: *Moves the cursor around.*
Kesu: *tries to read it?*
Metal Man (GM): It... doesn't move, however the text changes. Reading it... hm. It looks like some computer code, but it doesn't make any real sense. It's just randomly moving all over the screen.
Jason: "Hmm..." *Spells out PAUSE with the keys.*
Metal Man (GM): No difference.
Kaine: "Think we can hack it?"
Jason: "Might be the only option!"
Kraela stares at the dust that was their target, and goes to lean against a wall. Technology failed more often than worked around her.
Metal Man (GM): It's plugged into a box inside a waterproof console.
Kaine: "Hack away, Jason." *Walks over and sits down next to Kraela.*
Starr: "This is out of my expertise."
Jason: *Looks over the items again and then tries to hack their way in.*
Metal Man (GM): You get an error message, the hint of a GUN terminal. Then it vanishes beneath the text.
Jason: "Huh, looks like we're looking at GUN tech here."
Jet: "And that means?"
Jason: "Well, aside from the obvious connection to Borne, not much yet, cause all it was was an error."
Kraela: "Trying again can't hurt, right?"
Jet: "I see" *starts looking around the room in a curious fashion.*
Metal Man (GM): The waterproof console container has a rusted door that would allow entry inside... but it'll take some work to break into.
Jason: "Hopefully not, Kraela..."
Metal Man (GM): Jason gets nothing this time. This must be a tricky job.
Jason: *Sighs* "Still not getting anything."
Metal Man (GM): Someone really f#$%ed it up. Someone REALLY doesn't want Borne to be alive.
Jason: "Wonder if that Anthon guy's responsible for it."
Kesu: *Paints art of life on the dust, experimentally.*
Metal Man (GM): The dust would become liquid for a split second, then remain dead.
Jason: "Yeah, that militant jerk who's running GUN now."
Metal Man (GM): Not enough life energy apparently. Or maybe something wrong with the dust.
Kaine: "Can I try?"
Jason: "Eh, if ya think you got it, go ahead." *Stands to the side and lets Kaine go for it.*
Kaine: *Concentrates and then tries to get the machine to work and fails miserably....*
Metal Man (GM): Kaine would slap the machine. It wouldn't change its display one iota. The rusty hinge on the box of the machine is still there, of course.
Kaine: "..." *Tries to take the hinge off... if that does any good.*
Metal Man (GM): It falls off easily, revealing a small box inside. It has a power and reset button.
Kaine: "Oh, huh... Reset..." *Presses it.*
Metal Man (GM): The monitors would blink, as would the lights. The whole place would shudder for a moment. Soon, it would begin to start up... RESTARTING GUN MAD MAN REV SYSTEM 2.51 VIRUS DETECTED
Metal Man (GM): It would stop for a moment, making many loud disk-accessing noises. VIRUS EXPUNGED SYSTEM ONLINE It would then show the list of people to revive. A lot of no-names. And Borne's name is nowhere to be found!
Kaine: "Wonder what kind of virus it was..." *Looks at the pile of dust, wondering if there's enough material left to be able to revive from it Looks through the system, trying to get it to revive the pile of dust into the semi-living person it once was.*
Starr: "So... Anyone bring a jar? We may need it."
Jason: *Snickers to himself, not even thinking about the box.*
Metal Man (GM): Typing Borne's name doesn't work, he's nowhere to be found, and the system has no readily available setup to check it. At least from just 'normal' interaction. Of course it is a text-based system.
Kesu: *looks on the names list for anyone else interesting.*
Jason: *Also looks at the names.*
Kaine: "..." *Types "Revive" into the system.*
Metal Man (GM): There's a name 'Smith' on there. It appears to have multiple exclamation marks on it. 'Revive' is not a command by itself. It asks 'who?'
Jason: "I wonder if that's still even Borne's remains..."
Metal Man (GM): There is also multiple other names... they're all old Mad Men agents.
King Demon: *Types "Revive Ash Pile"*
Metal Man (GM): 'Ash Pile not found'
Kaine: *Clicks the Smith name, trying to get information on it.*
Jason: *Watches the screen.*
Computer: *'Smith--Unknown registry. Corrupted by unknown means.'*
Kaine: "Anyone recognize ANY names?"
Jason: *Looks for other names with !s.*
Metal Man (GM): None. Although Sergeant Levis is on there.
Kesu: "Could be, if Borne was a problem and all."
Jason: "Kesu may be right, if there was a bit of hostility between Borne and said random resurrection, we're screwed."
Kaine: "Levis... Levis... why is that name familiar?"
Metal Man (GM): Warping in would be Masa's character (I forget the name of, d'oh) as they ponder over Sergeant Levis. Sergeant Levis is listed as one of Borne's main men... Maybe he would be helpful. Or maybe not. Other people on the list: Trevor... hmmm...
Jason: "I wonder if there's anything worth checking in the other room down here..." *Looks at the door* "Gonna need some force to prop it open, but there might be something worthwhile back there."
Kaine: "Trevor? I recognize that name, we probably don't want him."
Metal Man (GM): Door? There's no other door in the room--there was only that small panel.
Kaine: "Should we try Levis?"
Jason: *Looking at the screen* "Maybe." *Oh, right. Scratch that line About the door.*
Metal Man (GM): Levis is listed as a former lackey of Borne. His major accomplishment is destroying the Alsa Stadium.. ..Not the nicest guy you'd want to meet.
Jason: "Annnnd maybe not!"
Starr: "There has to be someone. A computer tech, a revival tech..."
Metal Man (GM): Someone named Schatze appears to be very technologically able. And listed as known for being a Red Text traitor who tried to kill Time Cops and Questers alike.
Kaine: "Is there ANYONE on here who isn't either useless or wants to kill us?"
Kraela has drifted to sleep, still sitting against the wall.
Metal Man (GM): Let's see... Ouromov!
Kaine: "Well..." *Looks at Trevor, even though he REALLY doesn't think that'd be a good idea.*
Metal Man (GM): His name is unspellable. He ruled a group named HYDRA. And he wanted to kill you all.
Jason: "Nope, nope, nope, nope."
Metal Man (GM): Trevor used Deloth's teleportation as a weapon of mass destruction.
Kaine: "Yep. That's him..." *Looks at Ouromov.*
Metal Man (GM): Hey look, Dr. Eggman.
Starr: "See if you can find a 'Quester Friendly' one."
Kaine: "Eggman!?" *Smirks.*
Metal Man (GM): He was the only person to defeat the Questers and succeed in taking over, only to explode because his own machine was too powerful.
Jason: *Slight glare at Kaine.*
Kaine: "What? No on the Eggman? I would revive Chaos but he's not in here."
Metal Man (GM): I'm forgetting someone... hmmm... Borne had more sub-people than I remember... Marley isn't dead.
Kaine: *Continues loooking.*
Metal Man (GM): Well, I guess forgettable is unimportant anyway. Pandora rounds out the list. Listed as both a Time Cop and also a maniac who couldn't stop blowing up the Questers.
Jason: "So we either need to bag up the remains and bring them someplace where--got it. Wasn't Agatha vaporized by something? We had to take her to one of those Pokemon hospitals. Might work with Borne."
Metal Man (GM): The dust is there for you to remove. It seems fairly hopeless otherwise, the machine doesn't seem to recognize the dust as Borne.
Jason: "What do you all think?"
Kaine: "Let's take the dust for now, maybe we can find something to do with it later."
Jason: "Works for me!"
Metal Man (GM): Even though you may not have a container on you, I can assume you find something useful to do that, since it's not important.
Kaine: *Gets a jar or something off the ground.*
Metal Man (GM): You collect the material. Warping back up? I'll assume so, unless there are any objections.
Metal Man (GM): The group collected the remains of Borne, and decided to warp back to HQ. *Cetan Megawarp animation* You're back at HQ, with the metallic ashes.
Mewtwo: "So... haven't managed to revive him yet?"
Starr: "He wasn't in the computer."
Kraela: "Ow!" *Krae rubs the back of her head with an irritated expression.*
Kaine: *Hands Mewtwo the Dust of Borne.*
Jason: "We're thinking to revive him the same way we brought Agatha back a little while ago."
Starr: "Wakey-wakey, Speedy."
Kaine: *Stands next to Krae and rubs the back of her neck a little bit for her.*
Mewtwo: "Hm... why not try the Stadium's revival devices on him?"
Kraela: "I'm alright, Kaine. It just wasn't the most fun way to wake up."
Jason: "If you think those'll work, sure."
Kaine: "All right, if you insist." *Smirks and lets go.*
Jason: *He's just more used to reviving off his own (SP) lifeforce.*
Mewtwo: *He places the remains in the Stadium revival chamber* "Let's activate this..."
Metal Man (GM): The dust would glow. It would turn into Borne. Then it would disintegrate.
Mewtwo: "...Something is very wrong with this... The data shows he revived fine."
Mewtwo: "Then the first thing he did was self-destruct. Until that's fixed, there's no way to get these nanites back together. The minute they start working, they seem to disable themselves."
Jet: "Fix what?"
Starr: "That's comforting... What does that mean? He doesn't want to revive?"
Mewtwo: "The nanites you just saw vanish before you."
Mewtwo: "I can't tell. He doesn't have any time to say anything, they vanish in mere nanoseconds. It could be him wanting to stay dead, or it could be sabotage."
Jet: "Sounds kinda like someone set a failsafe to make sure he stays dead."
Mewtwo: "This also means he isn't your normal variety of 'dead' either. The nanites are viable... just set to remain inactive. We can keep them here while you search for a solution. My suggestion is anyone to do with GUN... not that Anthon Tark would help you."
Mewtwo: "Maybe Marley would know... he's at Jack's bar though, probably."
Jet: "Sounds like a reasonable idea."
Jason: "Ah, we could talk that out."
Kaine: "Marley first? He was a bit friendlier than that Tark guy."
Jason: "Probably anyone with a GUN patch is."
Jet: "By the way it sounds, the Tark guy you speak of would rather keep Borne in the state he's in anyway."
Kaine: "Yeah, he would."
Digifanatic: *Didge walks back in to join the conversation.*
Mewtwo: "Very well. Off you go."
Metal Man (GM): Digi walks into the conversation, seconds after everyone warps to Jack's bar. Whooops!
Kaine: *Looks around for Marley.*
Metal Man (GM): You see Jack's Chicago Downer. Inside is a variety of people. Including Marley. He's drunk.
Marley: "An' these Questers... they befriend a bunch of thugs... and they build themselves a casino, see..."
Starr: "I'm not dressed for a bar crawl..."
Kaine: "Don't worry about it."
Marley: "They then turn on them and befriend GUN instead... then they turn against me and put BORNE in power, see?! A bunch of double-crossing traitor-traitors they is, ahhh..."
Jason: .oO(Oh great, he's wasted and he's speaking badly of Borne.)
Kaine: *Sits back and listens to Marely.*
Marley: "Don't work with them if you want to live your life! They'll prop you up an' knock yeh down!"
Metal Man (GM): He's talking... most enthusiastically... to the wall.
Marley: "An' another thing. Don't trust GUN, they'll mess yeh up and get in battle with time traveling... warriors... Dimensional Warriors yeah! Those suckas will mess yew up..."
Jason: *Tries to hold in his laughter.*
Kraela: "Is he talking about us?"
Kaine: "Yep. Rather, our predecessors."
Marley: "And another time... I saw... I saw Darth Vader fight Agent Smith with a polo stick! You never know what's gonna happen... these drugs is for real!"
Kaine: "Ian, Demon, and those who were here originally."
Metal Man (GM): As he brandishes a container of 'Jack's Mindrot Especiale'
Kraela: "Fantastic. Shouldn't be hard to convince him to agree to help us, then."
Kaine: *Tries to swipe the "Drugs" for a minute.*
Metal Man (GM): Not sure how much of it was yours, but definitely Julian's. Kaine would grab the 'drugs', and he'd stare at Kaine.
Marley: "Who da hell are yew... takin' my drugs... are yew one of those evil Russians??? I'm going to set yew back to the medieval ages you... you..." *He picks up a chair and drops it on his own head.* "Ow! You win this round, yew freak..."
Kaine: "Nah, I'm not Russian. Nice drugs though." *Puts them in his pocket for a minute* "Tell ya what, I'll give em back when we're done talking, OK?"
Marley: "What yew want from me, a punch to da head? I'm all out of pounch..."
Kaine: "Help, actually... though, in your condition..." *Shrugs Leans in a bit close to Marley* "You know who we are?"
Marley: "Help what? You who? Where am I?"
Metal Man (GM): The robot bartender looks at you. It has red eyes.
Bartender: "What do you want with that substandard individual? He has taken 3.5 times the normal allowance of alcohol after hearing the Questers further neglected the obvious infamous Time Cop episodes that happened lately."
Kaine: "... Right..." *To the others* "This guy's a wreck, I can't believe Mewtwo thought he'd be able to help us save the world..."
Bartender: "I do not think much of him will be capable of helping you after he was betrayed over and over again."
Jason: *M to Kaine* "Those substances probably wouldn't help our cause, either."
Kaine: *M* "No, they won't, but if we can get him to work with us..."
Marley: "Yew weird people are like the Questers... come here to betray me next?"
Kaine: "No, not really, we actually have a problem on our world which needs help from sources in this one. And who knows, maybe helping us will end up benefiting you as well."
Marley: "What do yew want then?"
Kaine: "Well... We need a bit of help reviving an old... buddy of yours. He knows some spells that we can use to defeat a tyrant on our world... Unless maybe you know a way yourself."
Marley: "An old buddy? Who? What tyrant?"
Kaine: "The tyrant isn't someone you know, your buddy... well, rival would probably be more accurate."
Marley: "Don't tell me, you're the tenth person who wants Borne dead or alive."
Metal Man (GM): He wipes the alcohol off his face.
Jason: "Well, he's dead, we want him alive..."
Kaine: *M* "Only the tenth? Wow, I thought it'd be higher than that..."
Marley: "He's a popular person. And I'm not helping you. He ruined everything, and then you sided with him yet again. You'd side with him again and leave me in the cold."
Starr: "Was it you who rigged his nanites to keep him from being revived then? So no one would leave you again?"
Kaine: "I doubt that, Starr. But, if Marley isn't going to help, maybe Tark will. He doesn't have quite as much disdain for us."
Jet: "What would we have to do to keep you from thinking of leaving you in the cold?"
Marley: "I did help deactivate him for good. But I wasn't the one who wanted him deactivated."
Starr: "Not it. I don't play -that- game." *She leans against the bar... Still in short shorts and a tank top. Possibly contradicting her own statement.*
Marley: "It was Panzer. And it was fine with me, because that bastard was causing interdimensional war and getting all the glory."
Kaine: "Panzer?!?" *Sighs* "Time Cops... of course..."
Jason: "Oh, her again, huh? Her name does seem to keep popping up."
Kraela: "Giving the rest of us a bad name, it seems like."
Jason: "Guess so."
Marley: "Borne's deactivated with the code he was made to be deactivated by. I doubt you can get him re-activated without getting around it. Of course I helped make the Mad Man program, so I'd know how to manipulate it. But I have plenty of evidence that any group linked to Questers will use me, then throw me away. Anthon is an old cranky man who will probably doom GUN, but no one would ever want to see me back after Borne won that election. That whole continent can go rot and die. Your world's in trouble? Hooray. Maybe you can know what it feels like to be me."
Kraela: "Would straight payment be an option?"
Kaine: "Our boss doesn't care about Alsa, he wants the tyrant out of Nintendus. If you were to get in power once again, it wouldn't be a problem for us."
Starr: "I'm starting to like this guy more and more. I can deal with hate and spite."
Marley: "You couldn't -get- me in power, Borne ran a character assassination program that was more or less successful."
Kaine: "Yeah, but obviously, he's no longer around to keep it up, is he?"
Marley: "Alongside saving the world from Time cops and ensuring the Questers left more or less forever, he is now considered a hero."
Starr: "What about in Nintendus?"
Marley: "Anthon is the person he appointed, so he benefits from the coattails. Well, if Nintendus is in trouble I can't run anything there, I don't have any men or technology on hand, only my alcohol addled brain."
Starr: "No, I meant did he run his smear campaign in Nintendus too?"
Kaine: "No, Nintendus is separate, Starr."
Starr: "That's my point, Kaine."
Marley: "If you're aiming to pay me, I want to know what exactly it is you want. I will work on a mercenary basis. That is a lot less likely to get screwed up by Questerisms."
Kaine: *Sighs and shakes his head* "This isn't getting very far."
Jason: *Shakes his head.*
Marley: "What the hell is it you want? You can't get anywhere if you don't know what you want."
Kraela: "We want to chat with Borne."
Marley: "So you want to talk to him... is there anything else that is a gimme? Because he doesn't need a body... or the ability to exist after you're done with him... ...Or to even remember talking to you..."
Kaine: "We don't care if he exists, we just need knowledge from him."
Marley: "If all you want to hear is what he thinks about something. ...Then you don't even need to talk to him. What knowledge?"
Kaine: "We aren't powerful enough to defeat our enemies, but we are told that he has knowledge of spells that can be beneficial to us."
Marley: "The GUN Spell library isn't even in his control anymore. You were going to revive him to get something he doesn't have? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. You need to deal with Tark, who of course, trusts no one. Or break in, I guess. My keys don't work, so that rules me out."
Kaine: "... Figures..."
Kraela: "Hey, it means we don't wreck a world for no good reason."
Katelyn|: "So much for that idea."
Kaine: "That's true. Well, let's go see Tark, then."
Metal Man (GM): Another man walks into the room. He looks at you.
Editor's Note: TO BE CONTINUED, heh.
